The bat started to glow with a bright, obvious charge but she made no move to use it. "Close enough," Edith answered. "I'm stronger than you, Marcus. I can last longer and hit harder, what's your strategy for this?"

"The goal isn't to win or beat you, not really." He backed away, listening to Dis rattle off how his fear shield felt, how he had failed to anticipate and properly respond. "My goal is to see how far I can go. Push myself to my limits, and stop when I can't push anymore." Part of him was afraid, the old memory of his spar with Clarice and Clerise reminding him how much one rank of difference was- and this woman was a lead. This was someone who could go toe to toe with the other leads if she had to. HP: 41 Dmg: Blocking for 5

At your level, even Suns," she twirled the bat and slammed in into the ground again, and this time the wall erupted directly under him, "...know a battle is more than just mindless hitting and defense, Hasan. If that's all you want out of a spar, you're better off fighting a wall."

Marcus snorted at her. Something he partially regretted doing so openly, but he oddly didn't care a great deal. Frustration was human he was reminded. He was oh so very human and in a perfect world, he would be perfect and he'd not have wanted to test himself in the first place. He didn't have time to think to much about being human as the sudden wall stole a good wind from his chest, launching him a decent few feet into the air before he came crashing back down. Getting up he felt winded, but was still back on his feet, sword at the ready,. "Attack when I see an opportunity, which so far, hasn't really come up. Defend until I have enough of a charge to make a decent strike back. I can't beat you, and I sure as all hell can't outlast you either, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't at least try." HP: 36 Defending for: 10

Edith swing in fast and hard, and Marcus finally met her attack perfectly with a loud crack! She disengaged and finally took up a more formal stance, expression pleased, "Better."HP: 127 Dmg: 9-10 = nada

"But not the best." Was Marcus's quick to criticize reply. He knew that defending head on was a weak point, and more so, his plan was flawed in the fact it would end with an inevitable loss. The bat was glowing bright and fierce with the unused charge, and Edith grinned at Marcus, spinning smoothly under his guard and behind to hit the back of his knees with a solid thwack! "Being the best is temporary state that leads people to complacency, Hasan. Work on maintaining better."

Back of the knees and he was going down. He caught himself with Dis, even though he realized it left him wide open for another attack. In an attempt to give a bit more distance between then he pulled back, trying to spin and change blade hands. Just keep the blade between them. Still her smile helped bring out a small one from himself. "Get better- that mean I should aim higher then where I'm at now?" His words were half truth half jest, he doubted he'd reach a higher rank than hunter, but- hey, you could always dream. HP: 16 Defending for: 2 marcus yur never going anywhere istg

"Worry less about rank, Marcus," Edith lectured, as she was suddenly jumping up, torso spinning, her bat extended and whipping straight into Marcus's face. The weapon stopped about an inch from his nose, but even so the force of the blow did not stop with it. A wall of air slammed into him, straight on.
"Worry more about what you should be doing right now."

He took the blow, and immediately regret it. Edith had a very, very good point. And a very good arm. Her force blow knocked him back and off his feet; in the second he hit the ground, he knew it was time to cute his losses before he went full sun stupid. "Like asking if we can stop?" He got back up, gingerly touching his face and vaguely aware that his nose hurt- a lot. And that something wet was rolling down his upper lip. How lovely. "Dis is yelling at me about my face. And about my shield." He also realized he sounded very congested. "Is it broken?" His nose was broken. HP: 3 Defending his perfect face with words.

"Or knowing when to run," Edith nodded. She tapped the remains of the shield with the bat, and a clear ringing sound filled the air as it was healed. "Things are dangerous right now, even with the spar dampening field. I still had my charge and the dampening field in effect right now can only do so much."
She desummoned her weapon, and brushed off her hands, "It wasn't bad, but not as good as you could be, either."

He touched his nose, noting that it was still tender- and the blood wasn't flowing but had still run a bit into his mouth, a small grimace as he wiped the area clean with his scarf. The taste of blood wasn't ever something he wanted to get used to, even if part of him had. "Thanks." he also knew that no matter what, he'd probably have some tenderness and light bruising in a few hours. "I like to think I'm getting better. Not accidentally sending anyone to the infirmary. Keeping better tabs on my own shield and keying in when others are starting to get low. If I can- what right now would you say is the weakest part of the division? In general I mean, what could we all do to improve on?" What could he work on that might make him better-the unspoken question under the surface.

"Strategy...tactics, the usual." Edith answered as she checked her phone. "Knowing when to retreat is another big one, you let this fight go on too long. Your focus is almost entirely on hit and block, and that can get you only so far Marcus."

He slumped a bit slightly, even if he'd been ready to be given some sort of evaluation, he was still rather prideful. And still rather self absorbed. "Well, that sounds pretty accurate." He wanted to say how well he'd done in other areas, but even he knew that it would be not just rude, but stupid to do so. "Thanks though, for taking time to spar with me like this."
