Jordan made a pained face at the mention of Taym. "I probably could have handled that conversation better," he sighed. "What he thinks of me is his problem, I guess. Can't make everyone happy." He half-smiled. "If I'd known you could hear me I would've read to you. Not French, though."

"The only way you could have handled it better." he said, keeping his usual enthusiasm firmly in check in case he injured himself with it. "Would be if you'd called the manipulative ******** a hypocrite and told him to ******** off. You don't want him to be happy, if he liked you it would mean you were a despicable person - you aren't."
His expression turned grim at the mention of books. "Do you ******** know how terrible that s**t was? ******** poncy noncy gayer than the gayest ******** thing books about I don't even ******** know. It was ******** torture, like ******** waterboarding with words. I could have gone with some good stories."

Jordan's mouth twitched into a smile. "I'm kind of a manipulative ******** myself," he answered. "Probably why he doesn't like me." He shrugged. "I guess I'll learn to live with myself."
He kept his opinion of The Count of Monte Cristo to himself. "Maybe something about adventure and dragons," he said. "Option's still open, and you're now able to tell me to quit if it wasn't something you liked after all."

"Might be why he doesn't like you, animal senses." It reminded him of the way he felt around H or other far more capable game players than himself. "Though I think part of it, if you ask me, is that he can't imagine why you'd ever want to be around me. He treats you like a crazy guy with a pet dragon that's probably going to eat him one day." he exhaled carefully and closed his eyes. "Cept this dragon just eats everyone else, sometimes accidentally itself."
He looked back to Jordan, taking a bit to gather himself before he added. "He underestimates you. He thinks you are just a sucker and an idiot. Even if he smells the manipulation, he can't make out the shape of it. I guess there's like, merit to just keeping him thinking that."
He smirked. "If you have anything worth reading, I'm game to hear it when you get time, from what they said I'm going to be here a while, and I'm ******** tied to the bed."

"You're smarter than he gives you credit for." Jordan laughed a little. "That's an advantage of sorts." He leaned over to brush a gentle kiss across Rep's lips, something tight in his chest finally relaxing. "Still," he added, "I'm going to watch out for him. Just as a precaution."
"I'll bring a book you'd like next time I come to sit with you then," he promised. "It'll keep us both from getting bored."

The contact was a relief, even as gentle and careful as it was, trapped in the pod he'd wanted nothing more than to simply be able to reach out and touch people. He resented the frailty of his body and the fact that even leaning forward was out of his capabilities for the time being. "No hard to be smarter than the credit he gives me, he gives me all the credit of a ******** sponge. I agree though, keep an eye on him, he's got a ******** problem with us."
"And book sounds good. Do they write porn books?"
"Never mind. Tracey says no. Just the regular kind."

"They do, but if Tracey says no, I guess that's vetoed." Jordan laughed. "You know, we did find someone's stash of novels when we were cleaning up after a disaster once. I wonder what ended up happening to them."
He smirked a little. "Too bad it's your injuries that are keeping you tied to the bed."

"He says no excitement. Shame. I'll need to hear one later I guess." He felt better at least, it felt good to have a back and forth conversation after so long as a silent bystander.
He looked carefully blank at Jordan's follow up comment before clearing his throat - a gesture that made him wince. "Um. Tracey says that's riling up his patient and he'll have to ask you to leave if you keep it up."

"Okay, okay. I'm behaving myself." Jordan leaned on the bed, smiling a little. Things were not normal and wouldn't be for some time, but Rep was alive and awake. They could move forward from here.
