He caught himself mid-sentence, realizing he was telling her not to worry for the fourth time. He supposed it was something she couldn't help doing, but it was also his fault for causing her to worry.
Laughing softly to himself, he shook his head.

Sherry smiled when she heard him not finish that sentence. As the Life trainee she was her to worry about his wounds, and as his girlfriend she worried in general. No stopping it.
“Thank you.” Relief settled on her in the form of a sigh.
Then she grinned again. “The healthier you are the more I can kiss you later. Now watch for the spikes to the left.”

He was joking. He had to be joking. Even as she told herself that she bristled, a tiny spark of anger feeding on the emotions she'd buried earlier.
“That's one way to go about it,” she retorted. “Don't need a titan to make that happen.” Inside, she was telling herself to calm down. It was a joke and not everything was about her, and he'd honestly been more than loving. “Or you could just tell me.”
She took a deep breath. “Sparks. Behind.”

An infirmary visit was the least of his worries at this point.
"Sherry, that was a stupid joke, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it."
Pissing off his girlfriend. Great job, idiot. He probably didn't need to remind himself that her weapon already hated his guts. Maybe he should learn to keep his mouth shut.

Another deep breath. She wasn't five and she wasn't Armagnac. She shouldn't want to throw her headset at him and walk away, not over silly joke that shouldn't bother her. How selfish was she? She knew him, knew what he was like, knew he flinched when she touched him. And it wasn't like he had been ignoring her or anything, so much the opposite. Hell, she fell asleep cuddling more often than not.
“I know,” she said flatly. So why was she upset? “Watch yourself. Towards its tail.”

He barely felt the stray spark of electricity hit him as he let his own joke sink in. He had really meant is as a joke, but he hadn't realize how deeply it wounded Sherry. It wasn't like he disliked them, just that sometimes...
Perhaps this was a guy/girl thing, he wasn't sure. Guys never liked it when a girl was overly clingy, and girls were usually clingy because they were insecure. There were times when her implications made him somewhat uncomfortable, but it wasn't like it was unbearable. He wasn't aware of how much she actually liked him deep down, even before he ended up forgetting her. Though he hasn't known her that long, he did like her, but sometimes, he had to wonder. Would he have liked her more if he hasn't forgotten? Or was it because of that that he forgot?
It wasn't something he should be thinking about right now; taking down the Titan came first. Relationship problems second.

Insecure was certainly the right track, and it only partially covered it. He had forgotten her, pushed her away, and heck, even threatened her. She was utterly terrified that he would wake up and not know who she was again, or just plain not want her. She knew clingy was bad, she didn't want to be THAT girlfriend, but she was scared and she didn't know how to handle this fear. She had even began to lump his brush off of her more serious flirtings and come-ons in with it, which only made them worse at the same time it made her more afraid. In the beginning it was easier to remember that it was Jake and he didn't do contact, but now she was taking it as a something that fed her fears. She worried that he had jumped in too quick.
Even if on some level, she knew she was being silly. It wasn't all about her. She shouldn't be afraid.
“You would tell me, right?” Now was the perfect time for relationship talks. “Watch your left.” She could do both.

With such traits, it was only normal for one to NOT want to be with him for long, if at all. Who wanted an emotionally and mentally unstable boyfriend who could snap on you at any moment and threaten to kill you? Even as he began to reflect about it now, forgetting her for a reason he couldn't apparently remember, as well as those times he flat out turned on her, he wondered if it was even a good idea they still stayed together. What if he ended up really hurting her one day? Not just emotionally, but physically too. Without Chester to balance out his thoughts, they tended to run towards the darker and negative side, and he only wondered how much longer before he snapped.
He barely heard her as he was going over contemplations.
"Of course..."
It was hard to tell which statement he was referring to.

She was silent for several moments, letting the sounds of the titan and the ocean drown out her thoughts. “And your right.” She said it almost automatically as the sparks intensified. It was her job, her part of the whole titan hunting deal to watch Jake, but that wasn’t why she was staring at him now. How foolish was she? Letting her selfish feelings and insecure thoughts rule her better judgment. She had felt this way long, so why now? Why did his joke send her over the edge like that? Was she really afraid he’d rather be in the infirmary than make out with her? Yes, apparently she was. She’d been afraid from the start that she was pushing herself on him a bit too hard. “I’m sorry.” Defending Jake for: 7 HP: 45/50

While she was insistent about such things at times, he didn't think she held any fault. If anything, he supposed her nervousness was normal since she had told him of how he acted before they became close again, and right after that, he had just up and forgot her. It made sense she'd worry about him not being faithful, and while his feelings for her as of right now was nothing but true, he couldn't help but wonder why she would still choose to stick by him, especially if he was such a rotten person.

"For overreacting to a joke. I can take one, I promise." He couldn't even know she was worried about such things, since she'd never mentioned it. She shouldn't need to, it shouldn't even be an issue; she was just insecure and selfish. She would tell him later, about that and any other worries. When this was done, when he couldn't easily place himself in the infirmary rather than talk to her, she'd sit him down and tell him all of it. After-- She inhaled, his question almost making her nervous. "You can ask me anything, but watch yourself up there." She didn't want this be a distraction. Defending Jake for: 7 HP: 45/50

It was a rather tasteless joke, and he didn't blame her for getting mad. He wasn't sure why he made it in the first place.
"No, it was a terrible joke. I'm sorry for hurting your feelings."
Though he couldn't see her face, he could hear her take a breath, as if dreading the question, and he bit his lip. Perhaps now wasn't such a good time.
"...Nevermind, I'll ask later."

If she wasn’t watching the battle so intently, she would have looked down in some kind self-conscious motion. It shouldn’t have hurt her feelings. Jake would have argued it was anything but funny, considering how much it meant to her, but that was neither here nor there. What's done was done, and Sherry seemed fine now, so...
"Why me?"
There was bit of frustration in his voice, and he lashed out at the spines in front of him, ignoring the titan's roar.
"If you were so easily hurt by what I said, why do you still put up with it?"
