Upgraded gear or not, it didn't save him from the titan's unpredictable tendencies to shift around nor protect him from the electrical spines, and he winced slightly as it bit into his shield.
"I would hope so."
Really, he didn't want to add worrying about a Sherry pancake to his list of things to watch out for.
"... I meant the former."
He knew she'd worry about him regardless, but really, her job was just as dangerous, if not more. If that cord snapped...

Sherry laughed. A small, short laugh, but a laugh all the same. At they were on the same page about the dangers of standing under the beast. Of being above, well, if that cord snapped, Jake would be the one riding around on a giant beast with the whole perimeter of the island to wander over.
“Good.” Here gaze run up and down the thing’s back. “Careful, I see sparks lighting up behind you.” Sherry was pretty sure Jake’s job was far more dangerous than hers.

For argument's sake, he would have said it was just as dangerous for either of them, but he knew she'd protest.
Instead, he decided to pay attention, turning when Sherry pointed out the sparking spine behind him.

"It's what I'm here for." She didn't figure the 'you're welcome' was necessary. He knew he was always welcome to her assistance, right? He had to, she was here, after all.
"Looking good so far. I imagine if the beast stays as semi-docile as it is, and you keep hitting it like you are, this one will be down in no time." She paused then added, "How is the new gear handling?"

Semi docile, ha. Jake wanted to laugh at the word. Didn't it try to flatten him and Sherry just a moment ago?
"Hey, I'm serious! Really, thanks for looking for looking after me."
Words alone didn't show how grateful he was, but it truly did mean a lot to him.
"It's great! We should be able to take it down a lot quicker."
Or so he hoped. Everything seemed to be going well so far.

Sherry would consider it semi-docile until the titan actually hurt one of them with its flailing. Which it hadn’t, yet. Such thoughts were pushed from her mind as she smiled warmly; she was touched by his insistence. “I know. And it’s my pleasure, Jake.” She could have said more, but she didn’t know if now was the time to go on about how it was really just her being selfish by looking out for him. She cared, dammit. Too much, if one listened to Armagnac tell it.
“Glad to hear it. I was hoping those boxes would be worth something.” So far, it seemed they had been. “Keep an eye on the spike to the left.”

He was glad too, and of anything, more than happy to get rid of those boxes. Of course, it meant he'd need more to get the final Titan gear upgrade, but hopefully this would make things faster and he wouldn't he wouldnt have to put up with the smell or long.
Sherry was probably getting tired of him constantly thanking her, but he made sure to remember it. Hopefully he would find something that would make it up to her.

“Did you just call me ma’am?” She hoped the headset was clear enough for him to hear the teasing in her voice. “I’m not that old, you know.” She was mostly joking. He could call her that if he wanted, usually.
To be fair, though, she liked the thanks he gave her, the show of apperception was loved. Even most of her motivation came from wanting to see Jake well and happy, and she liked helping. “How is your shield?

Ooh, busted.
He had forgotten about the headset.
"Of course not! You are a beautiful maiden whom I should be eternally indebted to."
He would have done a mock bow, but it seemed it wasn't necessary as a bit of electrical current couples with the Titan moving was enough to being him down on one knee.

"Aye, you should be. Are you saying you aren't?" She was grinning, and he'd been close enough Jake might have seen her blush. It seemed she didn't mind flattery when clearly mocking, and she most certainly didn't mind it from Jake.
"Keep me updated." She did a quick check of the tether again. If his shield was still holding up fine, and the tether was doing well, then they had this. "And be careful."

Jake laughed.

...most of the time.
As if to prove it, he sliced off two of the spines in one fell swoop.

"Good," Sherry laughed in turn. "And you can handle most things yourself, I know. But I've got the fancy bandaids." She was his back up here.
"Though I do have say, you look pretty good up there." He did just take a decent chunk off the back of the thing.
"Keep that up and keep an eye out to the right."

Fancy band-aids. He only hoped he wouldn't have to resort to one anytime soon.
"Still good! Don't need no band-aids. And of course I do."
It wasn't so much him as it was the Titan gear, but he still liked to think he had improved, if just a little.
"Okay!"
Another clean hit. He really was getting the hang of this.

Sherry had to laugh again. "Of course," she agreed. He ha been improving at this, too, she would have said, if he asked. Things seemed to be going much smoother this time around. The headsets might have helped with that, though. Sherry felt like she was doing a lot less flailing on her part, to say the least. But the headsets didn't make things perfect, and she couldn't predict everything. Even if she tried to stay on top of things. Not all of the spines were in her current line of sight, and the beast was unpredictable,too. "I think there's more sparking behind you." Defending Jake for: 1 HP: 40/50

Headsets and gear, he would have said, and Sherry was doing a terrific job, with or without better communication.
Given that though, there were always mishaps, even if thoroughly prepared. If anything, if one could predict anything and everything that happened, it would have been a dull life.
He turned when Sherry pointed it out, but failed to realize the one in FRONT of him was also charging up, taking a chunk out of his shield.
"Dammit!"
Spinning around, he swung the daggers, slicing the spine in half.
