Deryk went still when he heard the crack. All of the sudden his senses went hazy as gas erupted from the ground. He tried to hold his breath but it seemed to be too late. Disoriented, he looked around, only to see shadows looming dangerously all over the place. "Ack! We're surrounded!" he called out. Though, he still felt very strange. The floor felt uneven. He was having trouble standing up. He made a swipe with his hidden blade, but he was too off balance to really make it count for anything. HP: 42 Damage: 3 Charge:1/3 Boss: 87

It seemed Jack was the only one with quick enough instincts to cover his mouth. Since Deryk was semi-down and had only taken half the hits, Chel wasn't doing any better. Since Chel had taken the brunt of the gas, she was wheezing on the ground, barely mobile.
She DID have enough locomotion in her body to swipe a few baddies with her bow though. Or maybe it was only one baddy. This was hard.

The gas was noxious enough to irritate his eyes--that had to be what was making him think they had seriously just been ambushed by shambling corpses. Only way, man. But their grubby claws and teeth were far too real for his liking either way, and his teammates were struggling to recover from the gas.
"Up and at 'em!" he called, slashing at some converging on the fallen Chel. "Scarves up and move, people! I'm not going to be a meal for maggot breath today, thanks."

He heard Jack's voice, but it sounded distant. What was he saying? Deryk didn't have time to think about it before something struck him again. Quickly, he turned around and stabbed into... something. He didn't see what it was. Was their enemy invisible? Or were they just really fast and hard to see in this sickish haze? HP: 34 Damage: 7 Charge: 2/3 Boss: 73

Chel heard Jack through the haze. Scarves up? Scarves ... what?
She had enough strength to move the cloth over her nose and mouth. It didn't instantly fix the problem, but after a few moments of slowly regaining her breath, she was able to stand up- albeit somewhat wobbly. It would have to do.

Right. He was a weapon, he didn't breath in the gas. Awesome. Hey Tensy, let me know where they are okay? At least they had some semblance of teamwork.

She shot an arrow into the fog, a beam of light clearing the path and landing straight in the side of a shadow. Perfect shot!

s**t ******** s**t. These things were doing way too much damage to his shield to keep up for much longer, and there didn't seem to be any signs of them stopping. Not to mention the fact that he still felt unbalanced in the noxious haze and it was getting impossible to either see or hear the others.

"A-anyone manage to get a good look at this thing..?"Of course just as Deryk said this, he caught a glimpse of a shadow. Letting out a cry, he thrust the hidden blade forward. Whatever they were fighting, he managed to land a heavier blow, but not without consequence. He found himself taking a hit once more as well. Despite this, he still didn't know what it was they fought, exactly. HP: 26 Damage: 12 Charge: 3/3 Boss: 49

Chel heard Deryk over the fog. Good, so he was still standing. That meant Jack was probably out there somewhere too. "Working on it!" she shouted to the death hunter. "Focused on staying alive right now!"

There was a brief glow of green in the fog, and then a large sword cut through a wave of the nasties incoming, creating a wind that dispelled some of the fog. Gas. Miasma. Whatever the hell this was.
"Oh, yes, hello, I am still alive, thank you for asking," he drawled with more sass than a person with his low Fear shield levels ought to. Must be the adrenaline from the charge. "Not sure exactly what it is, but frankly it smells rank enough that I don't want to know. A few dancing corpses and their pals is my guess. How're we doing? Because I can't take much more."

Deryk could hear the others, but again, they were difficult to understand. Jack was saying more things. It sounded like he was complaining. Or maybe he was just imagining things. "Okay Tooley, let's do this. Don't lemme down now girl, yes," he said before biting his lip. Green light burst from his left hand, surrounding the blade. Turning around, he punched out, stabbing the mysterious creature deftly...somewhere. It seemed to be fairly effective. HP: 18 Damage: 19 CHarge: 0/3 Boss: 8

Chel couldn't let them have all the fun! Especially when Jack was sassing her so rudely.
So she let loose a giant arrow, a beam of light that cut through the fog- and apparently whatever was attacking them, because when the dust was settled, the wasn't a single monster in sight.
"Did weee get 'em?" Chel said, falling over.

Jack lifted his arm in time to shield his eyes from the burst of light; when spots weren't dancing before his eyes, he realized that the fog had lifted and they were no longer being attacked by . . . Well, whatever they ought to call that aggregate beastie. Exhaling with a wince, he desummoned Owain, leaned down, and let Chel slump over his shoulder.
"Well, then. I'd call this a success," he said mildly to Deryk. "But I probably won't be going on one of these for a while, God damn. Good work, assassino. I'll get her to the labs."
And with that, Jack headed with the Chel in tow to find the portal, muttering something about showing off and freaking Sun hunters.
