Gabriel found himself really, really wishing this was an in-uniform event. He was so much more comfortable showing up as a Negaverse captain than as an awkward eighteen-year-old with bad hair and even worse fashion sense.

But as an eighteen-year-old living on his own (and living on cheap, easy food because what is cooking), the lure of free pizza was far stronger than the eternal wall of awkwardness, so there he was, caught in between wanting to talk and feeling horribly out of place.

Alas.

Richard Moreau liked parties. Any place that had good music, food, single ladies and gents ripe for the picking and eager to follow him home was his sort of thing. And being so close to Halloween, one of his favorite holidays and money-making seasons of all, it was the perfect getaway for one as tired and weary as Richard.

It took a lot of convincing to get him to go, however, though it was no fault in the ones running this shindig. This was a Negaverse-run party and he was ensured that it was purely for team bonding purposes and a good time, but he just wasn't really feeling up to it, and for reasons that only Krishna knew why. Yet, he knew he couldn't refuse such an invitation, and Nyasa, Nyasa of all people, insisted he'd go. (Though by insist, she threatened to move back in and become his personal physician if he didn't, and as down as the confectioner may have felt, he wanted none of that!).

So here he was, following Krishna in, dressed in his finest attire, the most douchebaggiest sunglasses ever over his eyes to cover the unsightly bags, and a farce grin to mask the fact that he's already had a few drinks before stepping out of his condo. The first and foremost thing he did, of course, was head towards the table of drinks, and there was nothing the red-head could do when he looked over the 'variety' that was offered to them. "Huh... did good in bringing our own, Krishna... Simple tastes, but I guess if it gets the job done, simple will do!"

Despite his grip, he helped himself to a bottle, and then a second one from Krishna's stack, for later. If anyone needed Richard, they could find him stocking up on beer, the sweet nectar of the gods!

The trip from apartment to the actual scene of the party was a short one considering Porsha lived in the building itself. She'd gotten dressed, her usual tee-shirt and skinny jeans, and headed down stairs after leaving a note for a certain black haired individual currently sharing space with her. When she reached the common room she was pleasantly pleased to see so many people had already arrived, but only four of the many gathered faces were familiar to her. Two of the four were her landlords, as well as commanders, and she wiggled her fingers in their direction, grinning cheerily before helping herself to a beer from the cooler.

Age be damned.

Richard was currently helping himself as well, and she turned an impish grin up to him before giving his chin a little pinch, followed up by a pat on his cheek before she nimbly snagged the shades off his nose and arranged them on her own head. "Nice to see you, Richard." She winked, then turned away from him to make her way over to Vanya.

The other woman was already sitting, and Porsha dropped effortlessly down onto the cushions on the side not currently occupied by someone else. "Evening, Lady face. How's it going?" She grinned, nudging the taller girl with her elbow. "Making any friends?" Silver eyes raked through the room, pausing on each and every assembled agent. Some looked right at home, namely Ever, Zac, and a blue haired girl she wasn't familiar with yet. Others, however, looked uncomfortable, nervous.

It was all very interesting, and Porsha sat comfortably on her cushion, sipping her drink, completely at ease. She was, eternally, at home in her own skin, and that confidence radiated out no matter what setting she found herself in.

Suri glanced up at the General-King and smiled, warmed by seeing him again. She wouldn't take much of his time--she could see that he was busy--but nevertheless gave him a cordial nod as she reached for a cider of her own. "It was fruitful, if not in ways we were quite expecting," she responded, which was a polite way of saying that nobody found anything in her research but at least she got some good training in. Excusing herself, she turned back to her seat, and began to watch as people began to pour in. By the third or fourth person to arrive, she began to realize that no one else was in costume, and it began to make the woman antsy. Was she trying too hard to be social? Was she now going to be the outcast? At this point, the silent edges of panic began to creep in. Was she now that weird person at the party wearing a witch hat when everyone else was as normal as could be? Suri could see it now, the sideways glances, the moments of judgement that crossed their eyes. She would be the mockery of the Negaverse for months to come, she just knew it.

Taking a swig of her cider, the blonde closed her eyes, exhaling slowly. Calm down, began her mantra, and slowly she willed her heart to stop racing. It was not that big of a deal. She could take the hat off, and no one would even remember in a few minutes. After a moments reflection, she did just that, nestling the festive garment behind her where no one would have to see. From there, she sighed, visibly more comfortable, and now that her fears were put to rest, she could nod towards Krishna, her expression stoic but somewhat relieved.

"It's been a while," she said with a tilt of her glass. It was comforting to see someone she knew on the civilian side of things, even if they weren't more than passing acquaintances. Her glance then turned to Vanya, who apparently was speaking to her. That was new. "Yes, we've seen eachother once or twice...though I don't think I've seen you before. My name is Suri, and yours?" As an afterthought, she extended her free hand in what she felt was a friendly gesture.

Krishna continued to chew his pizza as Vanya introduced herself. He might be sitting on the quiet side of the room, but that did not mean that he felt out of place or uncomfortable. Any place that graced with his presence was his domain. He ruled it with lofty glances and purposeful gestures, in command of every action and word. His well-polished pride would allow nothing less. That was why he did not interupt his meal until he was finished with the entire piece of pizza, and he did not turn to face the red-headed girl until he dabbed away the grease with a napkin.

Suri took care of explaining how they knew each other, so he felt no real need to say much more. He nodded to indicate that their interactions had at least been friendly, "Failed recruitment and birthday party." To the girl he did not know, he gave a smaller bow of his head, indicative of the formal greeting he had given Zac. "Krishna. You are new?"

His gaze went over to Richard at the drink table while he waited for a response--not a surprising turn of events, all things considered, and there did not look to be anything overly strong to make him any worse off. The florist's his attention was grabbed immediately by a girl who first fawned over Richard and then snatched away his partner's sunglasses.

And then came within striking range. Cold, golden eyes flashed over to Richard. Did he want Krishna to intervene? He had only to say the word.

Laine found herself biting the corner of her lip as she walked in. It's not that she was nervous, for she was quite good with people, it was that she knew no one here. ...Then again, this was better then listening to her parents talk about the store. Okay, yeah. She'd take a room full of strangers over a business conversation with her parents anytime.

It wasn't until she started making her way over to the food that she noticed a familiar mop of reddish brown hair. Strike her earlier statement. She knew one, one person. And that's really all she needed to be in her element. Grinning, the white haired girl pulled a can from the cooler and grabbed a cup before sneaking up on her prey as he grabbed some pizza.

He was probably going to kill her for this, but hey. What's life with out a little risk.

Laine pressed the cold can to the back of the teens neck and swiped his pizza slice with the other. "Do you ever eat anything other then pizza?" She asked, that same grin on her face as she stepped around to his side. She was still holding the can to his neck.

Richard wasn't too proud to admit that he could get used to a beer like this, even if it tasted like watered-down horse piss. Beer was liquor, and liquor had alcohol, and his body needed alcohol, no matter what the flavor. So, for someone who needed alcohol like a baby needed a bottle of milk, he swallowed his disgust along with the beer and was determined to enjoy his night. After all, it wasn't so bad, and maybe there'd be someone willing to accompany him home, assuming Krishna didn't chase them away.

He was in the middle of a swig when he caught movement in his peripheral vision and his rattled nerves got the better of him, forcing himself completely still and clenching his jaw tight when he felt Porsha's touch. Thankfully, he narrowly avoided spraying the drink out and all over her, though what he did have in his mouth was spit back into the bottle, and before he could say a word or even formally acknowledge her presence, his sunglasses were snatched from his face and found a new home on her face. There was no chance for him to reach for them or retaliate before she drifted away to Vanya, and that should have been enough to throw him into a long-winded rant.

And yet, all he could do after catching his breath and sputtering what little he couldn't get back into the bottle, was give a breathless chuckle, and he retreated back to the safe haven that was the drink table. "Eh... they look better on you anyway, m'dear..."

Of course this meant that anyone else there could see the pisspoor state he was in, and that more than anything else caused him to grab a few more drinks. He felt a pair of eyes on him and turned to see Krishna's gaze, just as piercing as ever, and he immediately knew that look. He shook his head and mouthed the words 'Not worth it' to him, before grabbing his mini horde of bottles and seeking a spot under the table to enjoy them.

No one said he couldn't enjoy himself there, right?

Makayla honestly wasn't sure why she come to the party, other then needing a small break from planning her wedding. When she heard about the party, she decided what the hell, leaving a small note to her fiancee that she would be home late tonight. Having just slipped into the common area, she arches a brow as she glance around. It was honestly strange when the only person she knew was the one who brought her into the war int he first place.

Had she really been that out of touch with things?

Slipping through bodies, she grabs herself a beer. Not caring for one moment that she had a year yet to go.According to her ID she was twenty one event if that wasn't the case already. Popping the beer open, she take a quick swing from it before glancing around once again. Her hair was actually up for once in a full ponytail, and she wore a simple dark blue long sleeve button up top. Only she left the top two unbutton.

With dark blue jeans on, she tugs on her boot for a brief moment, just to pull it back up over the jeans themselves. Dropping down onto a cushion, she spreads her legs out in front of her before crossing them at the ankles. She didn't talk, she just glance towards each person here. She was curious, but she just kept quiet for the moment.

Boaz was just glad to have made it in time before the party began despite the number of things that had come up at work that made it almost seem as if the powers that be were out in full force to thwart his plan for the evening. Making his way across the room to help himself to some water, he sat himself down on an empty spot with a soft sigh, realizing that he hadn't had a sip of anything to drink since lunch as he leaned back against the cushion and sipped on his water.

As expected, a quick scan of the room came up with only one familiar face in Richard among the others who had turned up, a reminder of just how many of his fellow officers he actually knew both in and out of uniform. Looking at the dark haired young female who was being awfully quiet next to him and probably feeling similarly out of place as well, he flashed her a smile and figured that now was as good as any to get to know another since it was a known fact that everyone here were on the same side in the war.

"Been a long day. Almost thought that I wouldn't make it. Name's Boaz. Boaz Crawford. What's yours?"

At youth camp when they'd wanted the kids to gather, to settle, they'd flicked the lights -- surprisingly effective on a bunch of good-natured, well-trained teenagers, but probably less so on a bunch of officers.

Instead, he opted to whistle once, sharply, between his teeth. It would be enough to get them to quiet, he hoped, and then a pointed finger would get them to grab their last drinks and bits of food and then to take a seat. The invitation had said something about a bonding exercise, after all, so this could only be it.

Ever himself shot the vodka one mournful look and then grabbed a coke out of the cooler instead before claiming his own chair, now several heads taller than the rest of him. In his other hand was a deck of cards, hand made, printed on rough card stock. He hadn't even invested the twenty bucks to buy the real deck.

"We're going to play a game, because I think it'll be fun. Plus, I outrank most of you, so." His grin was easy, careless. A joke, and clearly so.

"It's a social game..." And his description of it was brief:

Everyone was given a card, and that card would define their roles.

Villagers were the most common, with no special powers.
Werewolves were the second most, turning to wolves that ravaged the town at night.
The Seer -- of which there was exactly one -- could look into the soul of one person per night to determine if they were a wolf or villager.

Some number of werewolves were mixed into the deck, and each night, those werewolves would choose to kill one townsperson.

During the day, the townspeople would pick one person to lynch as a werewolf, hopefully stopping the nighttime reign of terror before the werewolves killed off all the remaining humans.

Then he hesitated, blinking at the crew -- many of whom were probably confused -- and just grinned.

"Lemme hand you your cards. I guess for the moment, the most important thing to know is that if you cheat, you're going to be in deep s**t with me." A pause. "...and I outrank all but one of you, so being in deep s**t with me will mean in uniform consequences. Capisce?"

He didn't wait for an answer. Just shuffled, and started passing out cards, face-down.

It takes some time to pass out the cards; Ever watches them as they look at their assignments like a hawk, eyes narrowed, forearms rested on his knees and the 'moderator' card held obviously between two fingers. He was in charge, and that was no secret, but for the rest of them...

"Seriously. If you tell anyone what you are, or show your card to anyone else, I'll make you run laps through the Rift." A pause, his eyes flicked to Zac, an eyebrow raised. Maybe he'd have to find a different punishment there...

"We start with night. When night comes, everyone puts their heads down on their knees and tries to remain quiet. Your only clues will be sounds from the people around you, their expressions when day comes, and what they say, offense or defense..."

A pause, a breath. Had he told them everything he needed to?

"Well. Head's down, then. It's night. Danger lurks at night."

Only once their heads are down will he go to the werewolves, to find out who they want to kill....

OOC:

So, this is the start of the first round -- a nighttime round. I'll be sending out PMs to the wolves and the seer in a moment. If you're a villager, you have to do nothing for the next twenty four hours, until I post the next prompt!

If you want to write up a little 'sits down / listens / looks at card and puts head down' post in that time, you're welcome to, but absolutely don't have to. I won't be offended if there's thread silence until my next prompt....

AND AGAIN A REMINDER: Don't tell anyone what your assignment is. Seriously. Don't do it. I'll be so mad.

Krishna caught Richard's glance and therefore did not lash out against the girl who had sat beside him. That such violence might not fit in with the spirit of the night did not cross his mind. She had started it by invading his partner's personal space. The confectioner had slunk beneath the table, however, and appeared to be safe. That was good enough for him. (He also could not deny that he was intrigued in watching his fellow officers interact with one another. People watching at its finest, and permissable to boot.)

He rose immediately whenever their host motioned them over with a shrill whistle. He took his card without comment and arched a rainbow brow at the continued threats, however jokingly, about punishment. Anyone who cheated at a game was a poor player, and in a group-oriented organization like the Negaverse... how could they be permitted? Then again, Bischofite was allowed to continue serving the cause...so not everything went as it should, as far as the haughty captain was concerned.

He took his card and read his role without any comment or change in facial expression. He then retook his seat and placed his head down, as indicated. It was... juvenile, but he would endure. His pride would not allow him to do any less!

“Have you tasted the pizza?” lofting an eyebrow at Lina as he took back his beer. “I should make you keep it.” It was hardly a scold but he mocked a scowl anyhow, though he nodded to the Avery and returned to his seat on the floor. He took the card and glanced at it in one smooth motion before folding it in half and sliding it into his jeans pocket without a pause.

At the look from Ever, the calculated one that suggested there has some thought required as to how he might hope to punish him should he choose to be so shallow as to spoil the game, he smirked and stifled a small laugh.

“Trembling.” He assured Ever. “Absolutely shaking.”

“Alright then, heads down it is.”

He shifted to make himself more comfortable and tipped his head down to rest it on his knees.

Lena couldn't help but pipe up from where she was sitting on her pillow, card tucked firmly beneath her butt so that nobody could steal it while her head was down, finding out her role. "Just let me have ten minutes in his war room. Ten blissfully unsupervised minutes. That's all the punishment threat you need." Dropping her head down like a good soldier, the bluenette couldn't help but take her game a little too far. Leaning over so that her head was against Zac's shoulder for a second, Lena's voice was low and full of glee. "I've been meaning to try a new paper mache project..."

From his safe haven under the table, Richard had managed to down a few bottles and the scattered about when he scuffled his way out from beneath the table at the sound of Ever's voice. The whistle he heard, as well as the somewhat authoritative tone he took, told Richard that he was the host of this little party, and whenever he mentioned wanting to play a game, Richard's tarnished mind immediately shifted to a terrible place. He mumbled, before pulling himself out from under the table and collecting the bottle that still had just a little bit left as he tried to dust himself off. "Oh, a game... let's hope he doesn't chain our feet together and ask us to sever limbs."

He didn't say that to anyone in particular and immediately afterwards he fell into silence, standing at attention despite being just a little more than buzzed. The idea of his punishment might have made others scoff, but it was enough for Richard to cringe, shaking his head and telling himself not to say anything. This was like a game of poker, and nowhere would he prized poker face do him better than here. 'Don't give away your card, don't give away your card, don't give away your card...'

Richard accepted his card, and wore a grimace. It would figure. But he was proud of himself that he hadn't said it allowed, and he tucked the card away into his shirt and put on a rather dorky grin. Maybe he could have some fun with this little game after all, and he finished the last of his beer before obeying the gamemaster's demand, falling to one knee and letting his head droop, right as a burp escaped his lips. He gave a nervous chuckle, then grew silent.

He was going to fail this game so hard... but he didn't care. Right now, he welcomed the opportunity for this little thing called fun, before reality set in again and brought him back to ye ol' liquor cabinet.
