"No! No! We're not going to talk about this!" Vespa growled, thankful that the two were starting to put some well-needed distance between themselves and his double, but not so much for the topic that Pasiphae brought to the table. Now was not the time to bring up such follies and he made a mental note to himself to stress this point once the two survived this encounter. If they survived, anyway. Shade Vespa wasn't making it any easier for them, giving chase and screaming at the top of his lungs. What exactly what he was saying was beyond him and Vespa wasn't about to ask him to repeat himself.

He knew there was no way he could defeat his double, not like this. He could have called upon another Negaverse officer as he knew that General Mica would have been quick to respond to a distress call, but he also knew that if she saw him protecting them enemy... no, that would have ended badly for the both of them, and Vespa didn't want that, either for himself or for Pasiphae. No one deserved death for assisting them enemy, right?

"Got any ideas? I don't have a lot of energy left and I don't think my wasps would do much anyway!" Vespa said to Pasiphae, wishing that there was some use to those damned wings on her back so that the two of them could just fly away and leave this one in the dust. Perhaps they would run into one of her allies, or the police, or someone on his own side that wouldn't immediately attack them, but he doubted he'd have such luck. He could hear cars zooming by on the freeway not too far from them, and a thought came to his mind. He asked the Eternal senshi a very simple question, hoping she'd catch on to his suggestion without giving away the smallest inkling of a plan he was hatching up. "Um... have you ever played Frogger?"

No, they were not going to talk about this--at least, not now. The screaming, monochrome Corrupted Senshi was giving them quite a lot to deal with at the moment without approaching the topic of purification. Pasiphae had never really had much luck with the topic anyway, so maybe it was for the best. No matter how badly she wanted to convince anyone... only they could decide if they wanted to be saved. She would not bore the blond with prattle if it did not look like it was helping and instead hurting their cause. So, she continued running, occasionally casting glances back at their opponent.

When asked for ideas, the Eternal was forced to shake her head. She could not throw a shield around the Shade no more than she could around the original. If she threw a shield around herself, then she would be trapped and unable to help her striped-tempoary-ally. She bit a lipsticked lip and thought frantically. When they neared the freeway she skidded to a halt before the two of them could go running into traffic.

"Um... have you ever played Frogger?"

Garnet eyes looked at the male beside her like he had lost his mind as she whispered, "When I was younger... but are you sure? Weaving in and out of traffic... it seems needlessly dangerous." But then again, what wasn't dangerous for them in this war. She took up one of his hands and squeezed it, gulping back fear as she breathed out. "Okay. I'll go first. That way... at least I can throw a shield around myself if I need to and prevent you from getting hit." Could her shields hold up against a car speeding along at 70 or 80 miles per hour? Only one way to find out.

Pasiphae began her sprint across the road.

"Needlessly dangerous? You're in a war where my orders are crystal clear to kill you and your traitorous kind on sight, and you think running into traffic is needless dangerous?" Vespa spat at Pasiphae's objection, not sure where he found the courage to speak out against her but merely chalking it up to the frantic need to survive. Despite her objections, she took his hand, and it was surprisingly just how easily he was able to overcome his opposite gender anxieties when pushed to such an extreme. With his screaming counterpart nearly upon them, he was ready to rush out into the streets with her, but the Eternal senshi took off first, causing Vespa to panic and chase after her.

"Are you mad!? You call my plan crazy and you're the one running out into traffic alone?! what's wrong with y-AH!" He was cut off when he heard the blaring of a horn and he skid to a halt, just in enough time to avoid the convertible that almost creamed him. There was no chance for him to take a relieved breath before he was forced into running again, trying to look in three different places at once. This was a stupid idea, a really, really stupid idea, but now they were committed, and the only hope that Vespa had was that his shade was just as bloodthirsty as he was stupid to give chase after them.

He shouted to Pasiphae, hoping he could hear her over the sound of the car zooming past them and blaring horns. "I regret this! I immediately regret this!"

Of all the vehicles that blared their horns in warning, the semi-truck barreling straight for Pasiphae was one of them, and Vespa screamed, feeling his shade's fingers gripping his long, blonde hair and forcing him to come to a stop. "PUT UP YOUR SHIELD, NOW!"

Pasiphae could not respond to her companion's words because she was too busy concentrating on traffic. When she heard him yelling at her like she was a crazy person, it was nearly disasterous. She barely managed to jump up in time to avoid the green Honda that came barreling past, laying on the horn the whole way. This... this had been his plan, hadn't it? To run in traffic and hope that a car would kill his Shade? So why was he yelling at her?! She turned to yell at him, "I'm... I'm just doing what you said?"

The deep, long horn snapped Pasiphae to attention and she immediately blurted out for her most powerful magic, "*Pasiphae Social Stigma!" The maroon beads snapped from her mask and immediately surrounded her. She directed the three remaining shields to some of the onlookers on the other side of the street, just in case bouncing off her shield put them in danger. She hoped that the ones inside the cars would be safe but.. she knew her magic well enough to know that if she tried to protect them, she might end up hurting others instead by limiting their controls over the vehicles.

--Social Stigma - Defensive
The most powerful attack, Social Stigma allows the energy shield to exist for a longer period of time, anywhere from 45 seconds to 60 seconds depending on the amount and intensity of attacks absorbed. The energy shield can now activate around up to four people, including Sailor Pasiphae. Whoever Sailor Pasiphae shields will find their mobility restricted and unable to attack as long as the shield lasts.

In addition to shielding up to four people, whenever the weapon/her attacker comes into physical contact with her shield, it induces an overwhelming sensation of shame which can actively affect the enemy for as long as the shield lasts.

NOTE: How each opponent experiences this shame differs based on their personality. For example, a proud warrior might feel shame at attacking a purely defensive opponent, whereas a chivalrous guy might feel shame for attacking a girl.

--Drawbacks -
Only works on 4 people
Only works for a limited amount of time
Reduces mobility, making it impossible to attack as long as the shield lasts
Can be broken by a powerful enough attack/multiple lesser attacks

It seemed that fate had decided to be kind to the two Senshi that day, as the semi-truck veered slightly to the right, merely scraping against Pasiphae's shield and avoiding the civilians on the side of the road, instead choosing to remain on the freeway. Other motorists either slammed on their brakes or managed to avoid the collision, practically clearing a path for the Corrupt senshi and his shade. Vespa had seen the semi that now barreled towards them, but there was nothing to fear, as all it took was a quick pull of his own hair to not only bring himself out of its path, but lure his shade a single step forward, just enough to meet with the grill of the heavy vehicle.

Vespa refused to turn around and he kept running forward, hearing the screeching of tires against the pavement, hearing the loud 'THUMP' and a civilian's horrified scream from the sidewalk. He had seen pedestrians being mowed down in movies before and had little interests in witnessing such an event now, and while he was curious to see if a shade would explode into dust or not after experiencing such a demise, he told himself not to look back. Just keep running forward. Just keep looking forward, and hope the semi truck did the job.

He made it to Pasiphae, knowing her to be stuck on the spot thanks to the shield, but the fear of being run down was gone from his mind as the collision of the truck acted as a perfect barrier, even if only temporarily. He shouted to her, uncertain if it would block out his voice or noise from within. "You alright? You look okay, but..."

No doubt there'd be someone calling the police and ambulance soon, Vespa thought, but he dared not touch the shield now. He already had enough guilt and shame forming within him and he certainly did NOT need it amplified right now.

Ooooo naaaahsty.

Pasiphae slammed her eyes shut and shivered within her shield. She heard the squeal of tires and the sickening smack of car meeting flesh. Her shield held enough, as it only got minorly nicked, and she heard no indications that anyone other than the Shade had been hurt. Whenever she heard the Corrupted Senshi calling at her, she slowly opened her eyes to look at him.

The Eternal Senshi smiled at him from within the shield. A gloved hand rose to hover just over the maroon barrier, not touching it lest she too be overcome with emotion that she did not want to feel. "I'm alright. The shield will fall in a moment, and then I'll be on my way. I'm guessing that you will too... right?" She could not keep some sadness from her voice, but it was just what made sense. He would want to flee the police, at the least, and had already made clear that he considered himself her enemy. She could only hope that some part of her speeches had reached him.

She seemed alright from within the maroon shield, and he felt quite silly when she seemed to be able to hear him perfectly from behind the barrier though there was little time to berate himself for it. She didn't seem to hold it against him and for once, that was enough for the Wasp senshi. His nerves were beyond rattled at this point, and given their shared predicament, he couldn't find much fault in himself for it... he may not have gotten a good look behind him, but the truck driver's words made it very certain that the Shade was dead. He didn't need to look, nor did she, and he made sure to keep his body between Pasiphae and the dead shade, for once hoping his odd appearance would be enough to warrant her full attention.

She made her intentions clear, and Vespa openly scowled. "I'm ordered to destroy you and your kind on sight... I don't think the Negaverse would approve of me just letting you walk away with your starseed intact, no matter what the circumstances."

He tightened his fist, knowing that the shield could drop at any moment and then would be the time for him to strike. She looked tired and winded, and even if she outranked him, he knew he had enough strength left to strike her down the moment the maroon shield faded away, and yet... he gave a tired sigh and his fists relaxed, though there was little time to truly relax. Not with a police cruiser on the way.

"But they also ordered me not to die a pointless death, so..." He glanced towards the approaching car, not at all bothered by the flashing blue and red lights but more worried about the officer and the bullets he'd have prepared for the both of them. Death by police would have been more merciful than death at the hands of the angry General-King or Queen he'd report to, but it wasn't a death he was prepared to face. Not tonight. "If I ever see you again, I'll kill you."

He turned away and was prepared to run, hoping he had enough strength to get himself home at least. He got a few steps away, before coming to a stop and calling back, "Nothing personal, okay?"

LONG TAG IS LONG I'M SORRY

Pasiphae looked directly into the Corrupted Senshi's face as he spoke. Her observant gaze fell to his hands when he curled them to fists, and the motion hurt her emotionally. It shouldn't. There was no reason why it should hurt. He was absolutely right - he and those like him had been ordered to fight her, to kill her. Euclase and Typhon had both tried, had both made their murderous intentions clear... even Carnelian, with whom she had the most encounters had turned on her when last she had seen him. She shouldn't have ever expected that her agreeing to help him would turn him less hostile.

But it hurt, nevertheless. All she wanted... was to save him. To make it to where they would not be forced to tear each other a part, as Chaos seemed to dictate. She would fight him, if she had to do so, but she would consider it a failure. The failure, and the reminder of all the others she had failed to help, was painful and sent her eyes down to the ground. "I understand. I hope... you change your mind." There was always hope, right?

The shield fell just as the authorities showed up, and the Shame Senshi wasted no time. She dashed off in the direction from which she had come, leaping up on top of a roof as soon as she could to make pursuing her more difficult. She was not the most atheletic Senshi, but Pasiphae pushed herself until she was certain no one else was following and then leapt down into a familiar alley. It was time to go home.

It took only a little effort for her fuku to fade away. Penelope slumped tiredly against the brick wall, not caring what grime or dirt transferred to her sweatshirt. If this night had been a couple of years ago, she would have had enough energy to go on patrol again. If this night had been a few months ago, she would have broken down and cried and berated herself for the weakness. Tonight? Tonight she just felt tired and wanted...

When she pulled her hand bag from its hiding place, she hefted it over her shoulder. It seemed heavier than normal, and a glance inside reminded her why. She was carrying four DVDs that she had borrowed from Scott in her purse. she had intended to bring them back, perhaps overly hopeful that her patrol would go well. Surely it was too late now to bring them to him... but the thought of bringing them home again, when he might want to view them, made her pull out her phone and flip it open. He at least deserved the option and to know why she had been taking so long to get them back to him. ... well, as much of a 'why' as she was capable of offering without breaking her discretion, of course.

She scrolled down though the list of contacts until she found Scott's number. Then, she clicked 'Call' and put the ringing phone to her ear. If he was busy, then she would apologize for the interuption.

Vespa managed to get some considerable distance from the freeway before he decided to power down, waiting until he was absolutely certain that no one could see him, despite his attire being a bright yellow and his golden locks. He managed to get to an old bus stop, the type with poorly lit street lights and the ones that parents everywhere told children to avoid like the plague. There was always a possibility of there being muggers lurking in the area, but after what he just dealt with, perhaps being threatened by a desperate thief was the bit of normalcy he designed. There was no one there, and he pressed himself against the Plexiglas, ignoring the advertisements and the seductive gleam in the model's photoshopped eyes as he powered down.

Soon, boring ol' Scott Erlea came out from behind the wall, looking at the world around him without those damned bug-eyed visors and the desire to be mugged or beaten by a roaming gang immediately left his mind as he made his way back towards a less dangerous looking side of town, trying not to be consumed with his thoughts of the previous fight and the senshi that helped him.

She was a fool to help him, and he'd likely get an earful about this later, but for now, all he wanted to do was make his way home and try to sleep off this nightmare. Whatever plans he had for today were shot down, but the sudden jingle of his regular phone was just the reminder he needed. The short clip of Mothra's song was the perfect ringtone for its caller, and he let out a low curse, fumbling with the device and hoping he didn't sound too out of breath when he answered. How awkward would that be to have to explain that it wasn't just the mad run through the freeway that left his heart racing?

"H-hey, Scott here! How are you?"

"Um... hi, Scott, it's me. Penelope."

Well, that was a pretty dumb way to begin, wasn't it? Of course it was her. He had entered her telephone number in his phone at the same time that she had entered his into her. He knew it was her. Why hadn't she thought of something better to open with? The flustered girl ran a hand through her thick, black hair and wondered why her face was suddenly so hot. Had she exerted herself that much? Or was it just that it was so cold outside that her skin felt warm by comparison?

She sucked in a breath and spoke up, deciding to exit the alley and head towards the nearest bus stop. Just in case he said he didn't want to meet because, well, she couldn't very well power up again after what had just happened on the freeway. It was some distance away but... maybe that, too, was all for the best. "I'm fine, and you? Um... I'm sorry to bother you so late, but I have the four movies I borrowed. I was wondering if you were available to meet up so I can return them?"

That was a little too demanding, wasn't it? Ugh, why was this so hard? "It... it's okay if you're busy or if it's too late and you don't want to. I just happen to be out and... well, I didn't know if maybe you wanted to watch them, so I felt bad about keeping them any longer..."

Scott didn't have the heart to tell her that he knew it was her, as not only did he go through the hassle of memorizing her number (not too great of a feat considering he had so very few contacts on it) but her name flashed on the screen, as well as the ringtone being quite distinctive. Why bother piling onto the awkwardness of a girl calling his number? For Scott, this was a pretty big deal, and he didn't want to bring any negative attention to himself or make her feel bad. So, he didn't bring any attention to that except a genuine, "Hi! Nice talking to you again!"

Even when there were no girls physically around him, he always found a way to amp up the weird factor, and he gave what he hoped was a silent groan at his own antics. There was little time to dwell on it, however, as she posed a very important question onto him. Movies? "It's not too late- not for me anyways! I still have some homework left to do…"

Yes, homework that he was putting off until after his patrol, which was rudely interrupted by his now late doppelganger. Homework that was due tomorrow and little hope of actually finishing it in his heart. Thinking about his homework was depressing, but not so much the thought of seeing Penelope, even if only for a little while. "But sure, we can meet up! I'm actually out of the house, running errands… and stuff. Tell me where you meet and I'll meet you there… um… you want some Hot Cocoa or something? My treat?"

Not that he had a lot of money on hand at the moment, but he was certain he had enough to get her something. He wasn't sure what the problem was, but she sounded tired, and while it might not have been as harrowing as rushing into traffic and fighting a shade, he'd do whatever he could to help.

It threw her off a little just how excited Scott sounded to hear her. Her insecurities had a way of manifesting even to making phone calls, so she tended to keep them very short and rare, unless they were with very good friends. His eagerness made it a little easier to relax, "It's nice to talk with you, too. I hope you've been well. It's been... getting pretty cold at night."

Talking about the weather? Even Penelope was not that naive and knew it had to sound stupid. So, she just jumped onto what he was saying about where to meet. She stopped and bit her lip as she looked at her location. Penelope did not want to keep Scott from his work, but she could use something warm to settle her nerves. "I... yes, yes, I would love some cocoa. I'm near the corner of First and Third Street now... I think there's a Starbucks not too far from there that would still be open?" Generally, she preferred to support smaller businesses but she just... did not know where would be open at this point.

Then, she moved to a safer topic: giant monsters in films. The kind it was okay to enjoy and she found herself oddly enthralled with despite her experiences with the real thing. "Well, I'm glad to catch you! I've been wanting to talk about Rodan, because from what I understand there were some pretty signifcant differences between the English and the Japanese versions. Also, for Gamera, there's two MST3K riffs of it, so maybe one day we should watch those too, for laughs? I mean, not tonight because I know you have homework to finish but..."

Scott was worried that he had come off entirely too strong in his approach, but she didn't seem too taken back by his excitement, so that was certainly a plus. It took him a moment to catch his breath, and he bobbed his head up and down before realizing that there was no possible way for her to know this, holding back his desire to laugh at himself before replying with words. "Yeah, real cold... lived here my whole life and I'm still not used to it. Oh well..."

He was surprised that she was taking him up on his offer, but he kept his excitement down, not wanting to make things anymore awkward for the both of them, especially since he could see pedestrians strolling ahead. Scott looked around his surroundings as well and immediately backpeddled, knowing exactly which Starbucks she was talking about and making a beeline for it, acting as though he wasn't at all exhausted from the dangerous endeavor he and that Senshi partook in. "Yeah, Starbucks sounds fine! I know exactly where it is..."

He was already on his way when she brought up the kaiju films, and despite the rough night and near death experience, he couldn't help but smile. Talking about people in giant monster suits? Completely acceptable and definitely a better discussion than 'you'll never guess what I just witnessed- VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER!' He needed something, anything, to get his mind off of that mess, and Rodan and Gamera were definitely the ones to do so. "I can make time this weekend, if that's okay with you? We can talk about Rodan at the shop if you want... but the riffs sound like fun. Um... what's a MST3K?"

Yep! Consider this an ending post on my end.

Okay, so the weather part of the conversation had not been poorly recieved, and they had agreed to go to the Starbucks. Penelope counted these as successes! She continued walking, pressing her phone close to her ear to catch his last statements. His invitation surprised her--but in a good way, "This weekend? Yes, I think I can make it. The normal Council meeting was moved to Sunday this week, so Saturday would probably be better for me. Is that alright?"

She flushed whenever she realized that she had confused him with one of her statements. One should never assume others knew everything that one did! "Oh, I'm sorry! MST3K is short for Mystery Science Theater Three Thousand. It was a really popular show that riffed on a bunch of films... mostly the more unusual and silly B and C list movies, you know? I think you would like it! Oh, I'm at the Starbucks now - I'll be right by the door." She stood in the doorway, rubbing her arms against the night chill. Penelope's garnet gaze swept from left to right, just waiting for the familiar boy's face to appear so that she could go in and enjoy the company and warmth of the Starbucks. After what she had been through tonight... she needed both.

Scott wasn't sure if it was excitement he felt swelling in his gut and chest, or nervousness, or maybe even indigestion, but the feeling was there, and he tried his best to keep it from spilling over, not wanting to make a fool of himself before Penelope or any bystanders that might be nearby. With any luck, they'd be drawn to the incident and he'd be free to give a jubilious shout after he hung up the phone.

"Oh, wait, I think I have heard of it. Might have caught it once when I was really young..." Scott scratched his head, digging deep to see if he could remember such a show and surprised that he wasn't the first of the two to bring it up. It did sound familiar, and fun, assuming he didn't get lost in the movie that they were suppose to be riffing. He was willing to give it a try, if that's what Penelope would have liked. He knew her weekends were rare, so he'd do whatever she thought was fun during their limited time together. "I look forward to that on Saturday then... the kids will be out to their various activities and the house will be mine, so it can just be the two of us..."

That sounded bad. Really bad. Like, on a date kind of bad. And Scott fumbled with the recovery, per usual. "Uh, what I mean is, it'll just be you and me watching the movies, that's all. Nothing too weird or strange, right? Just a guy and a girl watching a few movies... totally normal... Um, okay, I'll see you at Starbucks. If it gets too cold, feel free to go inside! I'll be there soon..."

Then, he hung up the phone and doubled his speed, shaking his head and resisting the urge to slap himself in the head. "Idiot... you can't even blame the craziness of tonight on that. You're so stupid, Scott..."
