Arkie was allowed inside, and hopped up on the bench beside Ethan, as his trainer sent the boy off to wash his hands in the bathroom.
"I think it's the farther door, the one on the right. Go ahead and wash your hands, and then come back! I'll get us some menus and order Arkie some pokemon food." He waved happily at the boy, and gave Arkie his wallet.
"Okay, Arkie, sit on this, so I don't forget it. Remember to let me have it when I pay for things."
Arkie got up briefly, so Ethan could put the wallet on the seat, then very neatly sat upon it, tail flicking back and forth as he had a menu set in front of him. Ethan knew Arkie was smart. He'd "tell" Ethan what he wanted.
"Let's see...." Ethan studied his own menu, waiting for the boy to return.

"Alright mister." Lorne nodded his head and made his way off to the bathrooms and went into the one that was definitely for boys. Inside he washed his hands and even his face and dried himself up. That was better really. He didn't like being filthy even if it was for a short time. Still, not much to be done about the clothes and they'd come in handy later anyhow he was sure.
He made his way back to the table, having to walk right next to Arkie, and he resisted the strong urge to do something to him. Stupid dog.
Finally he sat down and looked at Ethan looking at the menu...and continued to just sit there. He could read....but why let on?

Ethan looked across at the kid, smiled, and pointed to an item on the menu. "This is a good one. There is a lot of good stuff on this menu, so take your time? Usually, the pictures are pretty accurate. This one is a burger-and-fries combo with a milkshake. I figured that would be good for you."
Arkie stared across the table at Lorne, eyes narrowed. He was playing it close, to lie to Ethan right under his watchful gaze. But until Ethan 'released' him to be able to take this punk done, he could do nothing but sit there and stare at him.
"I'm going to get a faux-chicken sandwich myself, and some gourmet pokefood for Arkie... Let me know what you like, mmmmmkay?"

"Pictures? Oh...good."
There was a relieved sigh and smile from him as he did pick it up and opened it. Upside down. He waited a moment and then a soft, sheepish "Whoops..." and he flipped it around in his hands to study the menu.
"I'm not sure what most of this is mister...never had any of it." which was the whole truth, for once. He'd never had any of these items, so he had no idea what to get. "I guess that one you pointed to." he closed the menu down and looked to the Arcanine. "I trust your judgement mister."

Ethan nodded, and waited for the server to show up, before ordered two double-cheeseburger meals with everything, and two milkshakes. He got the multi-chocolate-madness for himself, and let the kid choose his own flavors out of the ones the server listed.
Arkie, however, was treated to a special plate of pokefood, poffins, and pokepuffs, all done up in orange and black, for the season. There was even a little white pokefood ghost on the side of the plate - which Arkie ate first. Even as he had his little treat, he still had his eyes on Lorne. He knew his game, and he knew his style. He wasn't completely unaware of con-artists... even little ones. But still. Maybe if this boy was shown true kindness - the type that he knew Ethan had in abundance... even someone as greasy as HIM might shape up.

Lorne didn't know what chocolate was either so he went with just vanilla. It sounded okay he thought, and at any rate might not make him sick. He really hadn't had much in the way of sweets either being a street waif and such. No he had to worry about food to survive not junk foods.
"Why is his food those colors mister?" Lorne sat forward looking at plate of poke-food curiously. Halloween? What was that?

"Oh? The black and orange?" He smiled a bit. "It's those colors because of a holiday called Halloween, which is typically celebrated around this time of year. It's where people dress up in order to celebrate spirits, ghosts, ghouls, goblins - everything scary and creepy. It's a pretty neat holiday for kids because of all the candy."
The explanation was finished with a quiet chuckle. "If you like, and you're around, me and Arkie can take you trick-or-treating when the holiday actually gets here. You'd just have to have a place I could pick you up."
Ethan folded his fingers, waiting for the food, as Arkie very politely dug into his, eating one item at a time, and doing so daintily, even without fingers. He used his tongue to wrap around each item slightly, and pull it to his mouth - like a dog laps up water, only Arkie had adapted it to food, apparently. He also used his teeth quietly, not with gnashing and drooling and biting. He had table manners.

"Halloween...huh. I guess that explains some of the stuff I've been seeing lately. It didn't make much sense."
He hadn't had reasons to pay attention to the holiday...or any holiday for that matter as a pokemon. He'd needed to survive, not...this
Though there was a blink at the offer and he shook his head. "I don't really have a place yo could pick me up at mister, and I dunno if Bast would want to go trick...or...treating..." the words said slowly, being new like they were. "But thanks anyhow." he gave a smile to Ethan, and blinked at the food being brought to him then sniffing at it. "Its so hot..." he sounded stunned.

"You know, kid...." Ethan started, as his own food was brought. He took a sip of the milkshake before continuing. "The house I live in.. is awfully empty. I don't have a lot of furniture, and the house is a mansion, so there's a lot of... extra rooms. Even if I gave all my pokemon one room each, there's still two left-over. The house was a gift from a long-dead relative I didn't even know, but... "
He shrugged a bit, and Arkie looked over to Ethan, and made a disapproving snort. Ethan shoved the arcanine lightly in the shoulder. "Shush. The house is huge, and there's plenty of room."
Ethan turned back to Lorne and smiled. "So... what do you say? Why don't you come live with me? At least for a while?"

Lorne had been poking at his food slightly, trying to make sense of it really....after all he wasn't used to cooked foods like this. Slightly cooled, maybe old...but never fresh made like this. He looked up at the slight admonition from the guy to the arcanine and looked to the grumbly canine a moment before looking back up to Ethan, and blinking in surprise. "Really mister? ....I dunno. I have a friend...she's like a sister to me. I couldn't just leave her on her own on the street. We look out for one another..." he hesitated a little trying to think it all through. It would be nice, a warm safe place and all, and Bast would love it....but he didn't know. It seemed too good to be true.

"Well, why don't you bring her along too? I'd hate to leave the two of you out there on the streets." Ethan said, taking a sip of his milkshake. "I'm not much of a cook, but the food I make is edible at least, even if it's not fancy. There are a lot of books in the library, so I could teach you how to read... and I'm sure Arkie wouldn't mind someone else in the house to watch after things." He smiled, and nibbled on his burger, while letting Lorne think.
"... Ninnnne.... nine. Arcanine." Arkie said, hesitantly. =It's truth. I wouldn't mind someone around.=
"See? Even Arkie agrees." Ethan said, almost uncannily soon after Arkie 'spoke'. But that could just be the the trainer/pokemon bond at work. "So what do you say? You should go get your friend, and see what she says, too. Do you know where she is?"

"Are you for real?" Lorne couldn't help but stare at the guy a moment, wondering what the catch was. Was it a trap? Had he picked the wrong mark? Still...the idea of a good and proper hide out...it was enticing. He took a bite of his food and chewed thoughtfully, staring at the Arcanine in surprise. That was unexpected! "I'll go find her and discuss it all with her. She had something she needed to do today so its why I'm on my own. How do I find you, after I find her Mister?" no way he was dragging the guy or the dog along to find Bast!

Ethan thought for a moment, then pulled a napkin out of the holder, taking a pen out of his pocket, and uncapping it. "You probably have heard of the place. I think it's got a reputation for being haunted around here, because it's so old, and most of the rooms are emtpy - but I assure you it's not." he said, while writing. "It's on Sutherland Avenue - just down from that old-timey supermarket. You can take a bus there if I give you and your friend fare - but it might be easier to just walk. It's not too far."
He slid over the napkin with the writing on it, Arkie giving a cant of his head in approval The fire-dog didn't say anything... just... WATCHED Lorne quietly. In a rather unnerving fashion.
On the napkin, it said:
4141 Sutherland Avenue -Old wooden house, big wrought-iron fence. Charizard gargoyles on the top of the fence. Just come up to the door and knock.
Ethan smiled a bit. "Just show that to someone around town. They'll be able to point you to the right place."

Lorne watched curiously as he took a few bites of his food not wanting it to get cold since it smelled so amazing. What was this guy doing? Listening intently, an ear perked. He thought the place sounded really familiar! "I think I know where you mean." He could feel eyes boring into him and looked back at Arkie, staring at him almost as intently. This dog was creeping him out man! He refocused on the napkin, and at the unintelligible squiggles on it, though he looked relieved when he was told what to do with it. Oh good. "Thank you mister!" Carefully the napkin was tucked into his pocket and he finished eating faster than was polite but he was hungry and he'd never had such good food! "Thanks for the food that was really good." it seemed Ethan was winning Lorne over slowly. "I'll go find my friend, and come find you!" He jumped to his feet, and ran from the diner, clutching the napkin, excitement washing over him.
