He could have pouted when he watched one of his blessed cancer sticks drift off in the wind, dancing from the fingers of the Elder hunter, but he knew better to show any weaknesses. He'd just find a way to sneak a cigarette in when everyone else was resting. On that statement, he perked up to Finn, lightly ribbing him (slightly in revenge for the original one,) leaning in a bit.

"Possibly we could set it that the smallest is in the middle, or de end. Ehh . . . a wildcat in a thorn patch, oui?" He offered, looking down to Nick, giving her a teasing headpat before shrugging again. "Mais, I can take the middle spot, aussi. N'est-ce pas autre moi de toute façon. . . ehh, either way."

Turning to Cass as she posed a question to the three of them, he thought about it carefully, scratching his chin. The hardest part about being in a community that spoke a different language was trying to explain yourself. He had the words, it was just expressing them that he had issues with.

"Mmm. It can be used for sheering. Pour clothing, and whatnot. Also, what is it, uhh --" He murmured out loud, trying to grasp the word, "Self-defense?" Close enough. Pushing his coat aside, he lightly tapped the blade on his leg, nodding, to show that he had his own.

Pettiness? Infighting? Finn had some mental eyebrow raising to do at that, though he wouldn't say anything out loud lest he increase their "punishment". A little bit of light jostling and some foul language from his new camping buddies apparently deserved some repercussion, however, and the moon trainee had to wonder at just how much of a power trip their leader might be on. Instead of dwelling on it, however, he simply took it all in and accepted that this was what he had signed his life away for, and pretty much expected some hard discipline at times. As the full hunters were the authority, there wasn't much he could or would in fact say to argue with their decisions.

"Of course, their are some few emergency benefits to be had from cigarettes." He spoke up, watching as Dory's got crushed, his cool and calm gaze shifting towards Marcus. "Solar flare methods, if you happen to have a flashlight handy to take apart. A water filter, though a dangerous one as the nicotine will be extracted into the solvent. Still, a better alternative to some of the impurities that can be removed by it's utilization. Tobacco, I have heard, can also make an excellent poultice against some insect stings, used to draw out the venom." He shrugged his shoulders.

"But as you say, unprotected, they are a fragile thing. I'll be sure to keep mine in a metal case in future."

He didn't say any of it in a dry tone, or in any way that might be considered know it all-y. He was only reciting things he had read, odd items of information he had collected, and that might be of some use. Showing off? Maybe just a little, but wouldn't such knowledge be helpful in the situation that they were soon to be thrown into? Maybe he was just digging himself a grave, but at this point, he wasn't sure it could get any worse anyways.

Of course, he didn't have a knife in his pockets. He wasn't sure where he was even supposed to get one, or have one issued to him. He was too new to have been allowed to go through the portals to buy his own personal tools, and it seemed unwise to steal from the kitchens.

Apparently he should have been asking more questions instead of just coasting along like none of this was important, because for this at least, he did feel some shame. Still, there was a question to be answered, and he turned his rather dead eyed gaze on to Cass next.

"Wood cutting. Or emergency extraction should you find yourself trapped in an enclosed space."

Also, no, he wasn't ignoring you, Dory. He just wasn't sure now was the best time to discuss spooning positions. He tossed the man a look, with a rather amused smirk to accompany it.

The jungle itself was thick and lush with tropical foliage, a quick summon of his own scimitar used to cut a path into the deeper off road portion. Cass had Marcus's mood swinging to marginally less sour, as she helped keep him from being his usual pessimistic self.

It was hard to scowl so hard with your pretty wife along.

"I do like what those runs did for your legs." Was his mumbled reply to her as he kept going deeper into the dark, noting how a few shadowlings scattered away from the blue glow of his weapon. "At times your weapon will need to be out and summoned, but once you don't need it and it's low on FEAR-" The forest cleared a bit, a small area that was far enough from the HQ and the observation desk and yet close enough that if someone was an idiot they might be saveable.

Might be.

"-You desummon. Conserving FEAR can help you inbetween battles, but keep in mind. A weapon's charge and a weapon's FEAR are two different things. One will help you attack, the other makes your weapon stay a weapon and keeps you protected from a FEAR based attack. A good defense is a good offense. For Survival, you are on the defensive."

"Oh yes that reminds me-"

Marcus dropped the bag and walking over to Cass he smiled lovingly at her.

Before grabbing her scarf and pulling.

Marcus was attempting to commit murder.

She laughed, but tried to not seem too pleased by Marcus' not so subtle comment about her nice physique. After all, they didn't want the trainees to be like 'WHELP THAT WAS FUN' and run back to base.

"Those are actually some rather good answers, albeit if I were to stab Marcus, for example, in the neck with my knife, Desidero would absorb that for him." she explained, "and Halloween has very similar shields, which is why we need-" she flicked a finger on the chain around her waist - unlike her husband, she didn't have her weapon out. After all, he was talking about frugality.

She stepped carefully around the brush that said husband had cleared out for them to walk on and into the clearing, "But if you were stranded somewhere with not-FEAR wildlife, a knife for self defense would be really helpful. Could kill it, make a fire, and cook as long as you have one."

As Marcus made his approach, Cass smiled sweetly back at him - oh, she knew that look (wait, what?) - which may have been the only reason why when she didn't look completely surprised when Marcus grabbed onto her scarf and began the strangling. In fact, she took the knife off of her own leg and dug it into the fabric wrapped around her neck to slice it in two to separate the makeshift weapon from herself.

"Thank you for that lovely demonstration, dear." she smiled as she took the pieces of her scarf back, tying the sliced apart edges together and draping them over her shoulders again. "Most Hunters wear something around their necks that could be used by someone who wants to kill or disable them quite easily. It could also catch on various things if stuck out on your own. It's a strange uniform choice, but....." she shrugged, "make sure you don't have to search for a knife when it's you or the scarf."

"A what in a what what? ********, I can't understand you even when you are speaking ******** English!" Nick muttered to Dorian in a dry tone. And included an accompaniment of her own, reaching up to flick his ear. This was about as familiar and friendly as the girl got, although it was a tossup whether it was any better than the dismissive silence received by casual acquaintances.

Despite her objections to the gross-smelling ******** cancer sticks the boys seemed so fond of, Nick found she couldn't argue against Finn's reasoning. If only to see Marcus get a logical retort.

She trudged along behind the Hunters, toying with the black choker around her neck. Sometimes it became a repetitive motion, running one finger along it's edge with the same casual nonchalance as petting a dog while watching TV. Cujo seemed to appreciate it, and even though she was mostly unaware she was doing it, she was able to appreciate the mental silence. It was just a- Wait, did this mean attempted stranglings were acceptable practice amongst hunters?

Her own scarf was tied around one arm, Cujo being the only adornment to her neck. And a morbid one at that. ******** headless dog, had to be a ******** choker in his non-weapon form.

The reaction that he dredged up from the smaller moon hunter made him giggle just a little teasingly, going to scrinch his shoulder up toward his ear, reacting to the flicking that she awarded him. Giving her a sly little grin, he wouldn't allow her snippity statements get to him.

"Looks like I cannot jus' win, french ou anglais." He said dryly at her, giving both Finn and her a look, before turning to regard Marcus and his wife again. It appeared that the Hunters wanted to show a demonstration of why you should care about wearing your scarf too tightly around your throat.

No lie, his hand went to his pocket to pick up Justice in an attempt of backing Cass up, being another Misty, but her little smirk made it all too obvious that she was enjoying this as a play, more than a worry some situation, and his arm slacked again. A lesson, not a threat.

Lightly pulling at the grey fabric around his throat, he instinctively took it away from him a little, so that he couldn't be suddenly attacked by some crazy scarf fanatic.

"T'ink in advanced, for tomorrow, than right now, oui?" He murmured a little out loud as they continued to trudge towards the yay, fun get away camping location, shrugging a little.

Moving on from the discussion about knives and bare essentials only being needed in the pockets of hunter jackets, Finn took the opportunity presented by having the two hunters taking the lead to fall behind the group and bring up the rear, fishing into his jacket pocket to check his phone for both the time, and to see if he might have missed any messages, completely discreet in his actions lest he end up having his phone taken away on top of everything else. Once he was assured that he hadn't missed a thing, he let it drop back into his pocket, he followed more closely behind his companions, cold eyes always scanning their surroundings. He'd heard too many horror stories about this ******** jungle to trust it for a second.

.....And apparently the next lesson was one to teach him never to trust other hunters either? And also only further confirmed his suspicions that their uniforms were a freaking work safety hazard.

Seriously, who in their right minds thought that wearing scarves was a great idea anyways? Finn's hand went instinctively to his own, but he didn't make any moves as though to actually help, assuming this was just a teaching excerisize, which it quickly became apparent that it was.

Yep. Off with the scarf. Finn removed his to wrap around his wrist a few times instead, shrugging at the other two trainees should they look at him. He didn't have a knife, just Trynt, and he was...a little bit big for slicing off a scarf should somebody choose to make an example of him.

He had no words, simply nodded in understanding, his face as blank as the dead look in his eyes.

The end result of the 'attempted murder' was kiss to the nose followed with a 'Also good for other things'.

Ah, the bliss that was to be married.

But Marcus was quick to go back to his more serious line of thought- setting up a camp. That and- "Basically, you need to think that no matter where you go, things will try to kill you. Not just halloweeners or horsemen. Hunters also want power and rank climbing isn't... unheard or unsupported. Truthfully I'm waiting for someone to die and someone else to take their place, if only because the one in charge right now is a ******** nutcase and my friend is actually sane, er yeah." A light cough Marcus realized that it might be better to keep his mouth shut on that end.
"Anywayyyy... Back to making camp. The first thing is assess your location and if it's dependable. Right now, on the ground, no walls, no barriers. This is a poor place and with no high ground and low visibility there is little we can do. But, we can take watch. It might seem cliche, but it's often the best thing you can do. Even with walls, you're never fully defended, and your senses will be your salvation. Still a good spot or bad, you'll need shelter."

Dropping his sack, two disposable plastic ponchos fell out, a set of flint, small hunting knives (one for each of the trainees), one wrap of ace bandages, a small almost used roll of duct tape, and MREs- five of them exactly.

"One MRE each, I took the liberty of getting you three knives but the rest is what we have. To share. To make a shelter and a camp with. This is on average, a bit better I'd say then what you'd normally have on hand in an emergency. So.... Tell me your ideas. How do you think we should set up camp?"

Cass elbowed Marcus in the side and lifted her brows at him, though she couldn't say it didn't amuse her a little bit to watch the trainees all fidget with their scarves a little bit. "Let's just say there are a lot of people who will use any means they can to climb ranks here. The higher your rank, the better your living perks." she explained, "as well as your survival chances. Certainly you'll handle bigger things....but you can also delegate your responsibility off on other people and let them get eaten for you."

Cass rubbed a scar on her neck as she spoke, though what part of what she'd just said prompted it was up to speculation. At the mention of the 'how', the mist hunter gave a small glance around at all the trees before lifting her brows slightly.

Was she perhaps giving a hint?

Nick eagerly accepted the knife. "******** right, this little b*****d is never leaving my person," she muttered with a grin, shoving it into her belt where she could reach it on a moment's notice. And what was that? Did she detect a bit of jealousy from her headless dog weapon companion? She grinned.

"Uh, those trees look like pretty ******** high ground. Is there a reason you don't use them?" She wouldn't want to camp out all ******** Hunger Games style up there, but could it afford a better view?

You better believe your sweet a** he was going to take the knife from the leader of their pack - sure he had his boot-knife still attached to his leg, since it wasn't taken from him, but now he was in the possession of another knife on his person.

Fiddling with the weapon in it's sheathe, he took a look-see around him, taking inventory of the area around them. It was open, but there was a lot of woods around them. Looking down at the small amounts they had, he lightly leaned back on his heels, eyebrow raising a little as he tried to form some kind of options. When in rome, and the like.

"Camouflage." He quirked up after a moment, letting Nick have her moment of epiphany, turning to look at Marcus. "It's one thing to 'ave some kind of shelter, mais, we could use the refuse on the ground, like mud and leaves, to cover us, non? Meld with our surroundings so we do not show up as easily." He offered, before placing the weapon on his belt like Nick had.

"If we need more support, we can use our coats, non?" He thought out loud more.

Finn accepted his knife and immediately began using it to clean underneath his finger nails, giving the area a rather bored look as his head swiveled around to take in the surroundings. Trees. Bush. Dirt. Yep, just like a usual camping trip, except he might have at least preferred a bit more supplies then what was granted.

"You would probably want to set up camp in an cleared area if you could find one, near a water supply if any were available. Dehydration could kill you faster then any predator if you're not careful." Glancing around at the trees, he shrugged his shoulders.

"Climb up and see if there is a better place to settle down? You just said yourself that this area isn't ideal."

Probably not the right answer, but he was beyond giving a s**t.
