Furrrrball Yep! Pretty much, pretty much. I'm still in the pondering stages at the moment. S'cool. MMORPG... THAT is definately not for -me-, sounds like in the same way RPing isn't for you. stare I think MMORPG's are bad for you. Like smoking. Or drinking too often. Or... crack. It's like one of those things you just shouldn't start. Because if you don't START you don't have to QUIT. I'm really burned by them, because a long-time friend of mine got sucked into one. I find it highly suspicious that he could be my buddy all that time, and could talk to me at least three or four times a week, and then just suddenly, when he gets his hands on an MMORPG, stop talking to me, isn't even online, and when he does get in touch, just says things like, "I can't handle talking to people right now. [Drama drama, bullshit bullshit.]". ... Crack. Pure, unadulterated crack. For some people, anyway. I think you should have to be tested for addictive tendancies before you can play an MMORPG. stare World of Warcraft is my first MMORPG. At first i played it with the same dedication is play any game, and after awhile i moved on to other games. The difrence with WoW is that after a 2 weeks of not playing i can get back into it like i did when it was new. And even when i first got it i didnt shut out the rest of my life. I did abandom gaia for a bit, only due to the fact that the time that was "gaia time" had a beter use. playing WoW. When i;'m soloing i go into windowed mode and chat with my freinds while i playing. Unfortunitly when i team with others i cant afford to stop whenever i want and chat, i have to keep up with the group. I cant imagine what the MMORPG would have to do with his inability to handle people, since teh draw of a MMO is the fact that the charecters you deal with in the game ARE people. In fact, the reason i got WoW in the first place was to be able to spend time with a freind that had moved out of state. We couldnt hangout IRL anymore, but my Elf and his Gnome could get together whenever we wanted. My response to a game is infulenced by why i enjoy it. People who play for pure escapesim on RP servers or powergamer completionists who's only goal in life is the get teh absolute best stuff ever would probably be more adicted than i. and it's one of the funest games i've ever played, thats a factor xp

Im pretty much a console-only RPGer. Things like FF and Chrono Trigger are my games. One I feel never got the credit it deserved though, was Legend of Dragoon. I could go on for pages on why it was awesome, but just buy it, its easier to beat all 4 discs than to listen to me. I've only played one or 2 MMORPGs, but I wouldnt mind playing more, but im afraid I'd lose all contact with the outside world. Havent played anything like D&D before, but I would like to.

But you can't deny that some people, particularly people with Everquest, end up addicts. A friend of mine has an aunt who got stuck in Everquest, and she and her husband got a divorce over it. He said they only had sex like twice since she got stuck in it. So you can't really just judge how others act the way you do. I commend you for being able to balance real life and a game. ...But some people can't, and I resent the industry that makes them for not putting warnings at least on them, or something. Or... you know, that they don't have addiction resources posted on them. At least at places like casinos, they have those "Got a gambling problem?" ads. ...No such thing with MMORPGs. I reiterate... crack. You can do crack once or twice, too, without getting hooked...

Too late now, tho', huh? I keep wanting to send people my game, but then I realize I wouldn't have it. It's like, the only game I own. All the rest I've played belong to my brother, and I didn't finish any of 'em.

Eccentric Enigma I played mine for about 2 hours then just never did again. Heh. Mmmmmm.... the first two hours aren't RIVETING, I'll admit. And it's a tough game, especially at first. Worth finishing, though, because the story gets really cool, and the movies like on the third and fourth disk? Dude. Those movies pwned, especially for the time period they came out. (That was some really good lookin' graphics, though FFX and stuff tops it.)

I'm playing Lord Of the Rings: The Third age. Its an RPG, a lot like FFX, (I'm guessing here that FFX is like FFX-2). Its really good, with lots of corny dialogue. I like it. A lot.

I agree that many people develop emotional addictions to MMO's, and a way to help those who do become addicted would be very beneficial, but what's been bothering me is the comparison between MMO's and Crack. No one can balance crack and Life; that's why it's illegal. saying MMO's are as addictive as crack suggests not only that everyone who plays it for an extended period will become addicted, but that creating and distributing them should be illegal. I know you don't believe that every one who plays it is an addict, you said as much. This creates a bit of a contradiction, and unfortunately terms like "Evercrack" are allot catchier and memorable than "a majority of people who play lead balanced, normal lives. however there are many people who need help to overcome their addiction to gaming." It just doesn't have the same ring to it. When Mr. and Mrs. Raving Zealot hear "MMO's are digital CRACK for your child's precious soul!", Mr. and Mrs. Zealot tend to have conversations with Senator Willdoanthingforpublisity. I assure you, this is bad. What i don't suggest is that we ignore the problem. A better understanding among mental health professionals about the nature of these addictions would go along way in preparing them to help those who are in need. Often time people wont seek help. since it isn't a traditional addiction, they don't think they should consult an expert. Perhaps they feel they will be mocked for becoming addicted to a game and the therapist wont treat their problem seriously. Trust me, if you give the shrink money, s/he will help you all they can. I'm not saying it will absolutely solve their problems, but it will be a sight more aid than someone who doesn't seek help at all will receive. Even as things are today, counseling and therapy should, if given a proper chance, aid individuals in stopping their addiction. oh, and that shirt *cracks* me up. nyuk nyuk.

omnispork Even as things are today, counseling and therapy should, if given a proper chance, aid individuals in stopping their addiction. But the phenomena of gaming addictions isn't well enough accepted that people seek, or even acknowledge that help is needed for it. But there is, and you can't even make gaming addicts realize they're hooked, because there's no legitimate case studies. There's no G.A. (Gamer's Anonymous), though sometimes I think there should be. Even if the meetings dragged those people out of their caves for long enough that they contacted REAL PEOPLE. The whole thing sickens me to the middle. The worst part being that they keep marketing these games, but don't actually publisize what they KNOW it's doing to people. ...And if we wanna discuss this further, we could make a whole seperate thread. 3nodding Which I wouldn't be against. But this one is for what RPGs you play in your balanced lifestyles, yush! FFX and FFX-2 are very similar, sweet. Graphics wise. I couldn't get through FFX, coz personally, when I want to play a game, I want to play a game. Not play five minutes of game, watch an HOUR of movie, then play two mnutes of game, and then watch twenty minutes of movie... rolleyes If I wanted to see THAT MUCH MOVIE, I would have BOUGHT A MOVIE. Not to mention the presposterous prospect of a game it is for any completionist. My brother used the gameshark to fill in the sphere... thing. And it took him 12 hours just to insert the orbs. If he'd actually done that on his own, he'd still be working on the game, and he bought FFX when it came out. I dunno. I just think it's the most ludicrous, excessive game... *shrug*
