Luckily the warning was enough. The seaweed had him on his guard, and he danced back with barely a scratch in his shield to show for it.
The problem was that he didn't know what the journey back up would be like. He hesitated, debating whether to continue.

He weighed his options and decided, yes. He would in fact continue. He was largely inspired to this decision by a promising gleam in the back of the cavern, which he approached with caution.

While he did not want to seem ungrateful for even small successes, he was a little bit irritated that he hadn't kicked over a rock and found as much as he could carry like he had last time. He wondered whether the place was slowly getting picked dry, or if he'd just been exceptionally lucky before.

SQUID ARMS EVERYWHERE, this was getting truly ridiculous. Every time he turned around something betentacled was assaulting him.
Taym would have corrected someone, explaining the difference between an arm and a tentacle. Good thing no one was here to get it wrong.

This one hurt a lot more. He gave it a few ineffectual stabs before he managed to free himself.

Luckily he paddled away almost directly into another find. He waited, watching the tentacles retreat into the gloom, and held very still to make sure they were gone before examining the loot.

He thought he saw something move. Whether it was tentacles or mermaids, he wanted to be closer to the exit, so he fumbled back before remembering, s**t, that area wasn't particularly safe either.

He was running out of patience and backbone, but he wasn't entirely out. He'd be pissed if he came back with less than last time, but it was looking increasingly likely that this would be the case.
