Fighting underwater was HARD. She kept trying to kick, or punch, and her arms and legs moved so slowly that by the time they got to the mermaids, they barely touched. Meanwhile, those fins - those TAILS kept SMACKING her like a truck - ... was that an opening? Maebe started kicking back, swimming between the mermaids, sliding through their grasping arms until - YES, she was free, FREE, FREE! She swam for the surface so fast, even the mermaids must have been impressed.

Shiloh had meant to back and help her, he truly had. But suddenly sentient seaweed twisted around his ankle yanking him backward and forcing him to deal with it before it would allow him to attempt any rescue mission.

The seaweed didn't hurt much, but it had a tenuous grasp, and by the time he managed to maneuver Haruko to cut himself loose, he just managed to catch Maebe blasting past him, heading straight towards the surface.
Shiloh eyes widened a moment, a bit crushed that she would leave him behind, but he could only imagine what dealing with those mermaids must have been like, and he didn't blame her, peeking out the space he had swam through only to meet faces of angry mermaids.
He'd have to find another way out.

It got darker the deeper he moved into the cave, and he resorted to feeling around with his hands, jolting in surprise when he dislodged something from the walls.

The stones clacked together as they drifted downward into a pile, and Shiloh scooped them up in slight disbelief, there were so many of them. He'd unwittingly hit a small jackpot.

He tapped the place where his hand, and the stones, had been before, just in case anything was left behind that he had missed.

Shiloh smiled gleefully as several more stones dislodged themselves. He quickly scooped them up, checking his oxygen tank briefly before continuing on his way. It would probably be a good idea to get a move on and find a way out.

He managed to make his way into yet another cave, and gasped bubbles as something slimy slid across his legs.

Haruko's runes flashed, lighting up the tentacles clinging to his leg. Shiloh knew better than to chalk them up to harmless octopi, and he kicked violently at them until he was free, not wanting to make tentacle watch any more of a reality.

He knocked himself back into the wall with his kicking, and to his surprise, more stones floated down over his head. He sure hoped thing ringing in his ears was worth it.

It turned out, it wasn't. What had fallen was mostly debris, and Shiloh only managed to pick out a single stone from the mess.

He'd finally managed to lose the tentacles, and the caves, only to encounter more seaweed.

It stung more this time, rubbing painfully against his skin as he struggled to rip it free. In the end, he resorted to cutting it with Haruko, her metallic jaws making whatever it was shrink back in horror.

Shiloh had finally made it out, and he'd dealt with the seaweed, and the tentacles, and the seaweed again. So when he saw the mermaids approaching, looking murderous, with bits of Maebe's shirt stuck to their claws, he really didn't want to have to deal with them again.

They seemed angrier at having lost one snack for good, and Shiloh swung Haruko through the water best he could, but she was sluggish, and the mermaids were closing in.
