"Ohoho! Don't be so sure, sister!" Yaholo teased, poking Tahigwa's nose. "I'll be the one leaving you in the dust! Prepare yourself!"
Then, his expression fell, and his attention snapped towards Pahana. What did she just say? She was afraid she would slip and get injured? When did she get a sense of danger? The last time he checked, Pahana wasn't afraid to twirl into a lake or smack herself into a tree! How much had she changed since he left Yera?
"Well, if you really want to follow us on foot, you can... But..." He paused, moving to pat her shoulder. "When did you become so scared of slipping up or getting hurt? You've never cared about that before."

Tahigwa pouted as her nose was poked, but quickly laughed it off. Oh, no, she would show him just how fast she could be! She was a force to be reckoned with!
"Didn't something happen in the forest, Pahana?" She muttered, tapping her chin. "You said something about a girl you liked? An Alkidike?"

Pahana turned her face away as Yaholo patted her shoulder. Well, she had been injured, and maybe it taught her a lesson or two about not looking where she was going. So what if she was afraid to get hurt? Wasn't that a good thing?
Her eyes snapped wide open as Tahigwa spoke and she quickly leaped forward to flail at her. "TAHIIIII!" She whined. "Don't say anything about her, yet! I'm not sure about how I FEEL!"

Yaholo leaned backwards as Pahana leaped towards Tahigwa, shouting something about a girl she had met. He paused, studying both girls as they flailed their arms around at each other, and sighed. Wow, Pahana had a crush on someone? An Alkidike, no less? He shook his head and couldn't help but crack a smile. Now he didn't feel so isolated, in the love aspect of life, that is.
"You know, Pahana, it's okay if you have a crush." He said, gently pushing his sisters apart. "I have one, too."

Tahigwa huffed towards Pahana as they were pushed apart. She was only trying to make conversation, she didn't need to get so upset! Her eyes turned away from her siblings for a moment while she thought, before they darted back towards Yaholo.
"It's that blue haired guy, isn't it?! The one with the swords!" She squealed, leaping forward to grab her brother's arm. "What was his name, again? You told me but I forgot because I never asked him! Something with an O, right? How's he doing? Does he remember me?"

Pahana's eyes widened sharply as Tahigwa began making a fuss about Yaholo's crush. Her brother liked a boy? How come he never told her about this? Did daddy know? Did her mother know? Did anyone else know? She leaned backwards, seemingly shocked, before grinning wildly. Oh, this was too COOL!
"YOU LIKE A BOY?!" She screamed, jumping up and down. "Can I meet him? Does daddy know? What does he look like? Does he live close by? Why haven't you said anything about him before? YOU HAVE GOT TO BRING HIM HOME FOR DINNER, DADDY WOULD BE THRILLED!"

Yaholo knew that as soon as Tahigwa's eyes darted back towards him that he had made the biggest mistake. He paused, his expression stoic, while the questions bounced around him. How was he? Would he be coming for dinner? Does he remember me? Why haven't I heard about him before?
Does he live close by? Could I meet him?
"Ah, ha, um..." He chuckled, taking a breath. "Uh... To sum it up... Yes, his name is Oulixes, and no, I don't think you'll be able to meet him. At least not for a while..."
His eyes shifted to the side, before he leaned up against a wall. "I haven't seen him since the tournament..." He explained. "...I'm pretty sure I've scared him off by telling him I liked him, you know? I hope to see him soon..."

As her brother's demeanor changed, Tahigwa's posture shifted to a more concerned pose. Aw, poor Yaholo! Had he really been rejected? Who could reject her sweet, lovable, big brother? This was an outrage! Oulixes would be in for it if she ever saw him again, no one messes with her big brother!
"Don't you worry, bro!" She exclaimed. "Let me handle that heart breaker! He won't get away with this, mark my words! I HAVE EYES EVERYWHERE..."

Pahana followed Yaholo straight over to where he had leaned and grasped him in a tight hug. She would make it all better, her hugs could cure all sorts of problems! If they made her daddy smile and her mother smile, then why couldn't make her brother feel better?
"Yeah! Tahigwa and I will make him pay for this!" She agreed. "You just tell us what to do and it will be done, just like daddy always says! He won't be bothering you anymore once we're through with him!"

WELL, ********. Somehow by not commanding his sisters to search and destroy, they suddenly thought they had to. Sometimes he wished they had been little brothers who knew exactly what he meant when he said it, not interpret it into the exact opposite each time he spoke. He heaved another, long, slow, drawn out sigh, before shaking his head.
"No, he hasn't done anything to me, so you'll be doing NOTHING as well." He groaned. "I'm not even sure if he rejected me or not. He has a very troubled past, from what he's told me, and I'm sure he doesn't want me to get involved by me following him around. HOWEVER, it does hurt to not know if he has feelings for me or not, but that doesn't mean either of you can stomp off into the middle of nowhere to get your asses kicked by a swordsman whom you know nothing about!"
Again, he paused, taking a few deep breaths, and moved quickly towards the back of the hut. "Now, let's go swimming before it gets too dark." He grumbled. "I want to relax, not worry, alright? I do that enough already when I think about what you two might be getting into."

"Alright, alright!" Tahigwa yelped, chasing after Yaholo. "You don't need to get so angry with us, we only want to help."
Then she found herself staring at him. He worried about them? What were they doing that was such a cause for alarm? She puffed out her cheeks and stuck out her tongue.
"Oh, come on, Yaho!" She teased. "We're not babies anymore, you know. I'm perfectly capable of handling myself. I don't know why you think you need to worry so much about what we're doing, it's not like we're going to get hurt every time we go outside."
She swung one of the towels over her shoulder and gave him an eye roll. "Anyway, if it's so much of a bother to worry about us, then just stop." She said. "It's easy to stop worrying, just ask Nesrine! I'm sure she'd be happy to show you how not to care about everything!"

Pahana followed Tahigwa closely behind and made a beeline for Yaholo's waist again, giving him a tight squeeze. Oh, her brother was just frustrated, that's all! He needed to go take a nap, or maybe... Maybe he wanted to come home to Tale for the day so daddy could tell him some jokes! That always cheered him up! She latched onto his hand and pulled him towards where they had snuck in.
"I know what you need, a quick trip home!" She chirped. "When I was little and you were grumpy, daddy would always tell you jokes until you could barely breathe! I'm sure that's all you need to forget this guy and then you can come back here and be a big bad guard again!"

Yaholo's shoulders tensed with Tahigwa's words and refused to budge as Pahana pulled him back towards the front door. Neither of them understood, neither of them could read his cues, and he was beginning to lose hope that either would ever focus enough to attempt either. What was he going to do with them? At first, when they had first become Prentices, he didn't want to see them grow up. But now... They needed to hear it, they needed to swallow the pill that he had to swallow long before they had to.
No more sugar coating and cuddles. He had to suck it up and tell them like it is.
"No, Pahana!" He barked, pulling his arm away. "I won't be going back to Yera for another few months, there's much to do here before I can go back. I can't leave my position here, unless there happens to be an emergency. You, on the other hand, aren't supposed to be here in the first place. You could get me in serious trouble if you get caught here. I want you to leave as soon as possible for your own safety, is that clear?"
Then, he turned his attention to Tahigwa, and gave her a stern look.
"Listen here, Tahigwa." He growled. "I've had it with this 'I don't care' attitude. You cannot live like that anymore, do you understand? You're going to be training soon and that s**t won't cut it! Nesrine is not a proper role model for what you should aspire to be! Take a look at mom or Arjeta and try to be a little more like them for a change!" He paused, folding his arms. "And how can I not worry about you when you don't give a damn about anything? You're careless, just like how I used to be when I was your age. You don't look where you're going, you can't be bothered to help any of your sisters, and, well..." He sighed. "I can't trust you to be responsible until you have a weapon in your hand and a sense of pride in who you are."

Tahigwa jumped backwards as Yaholo growled, before her eyes narrowed. What the hell was his problem? She cared! She really did! Of course she wasn't going to be like Nesrine, she wasn't stupid! Her mother was the best fighter in the whole village, even with her missing leg, and she was going to be just like her! He knew that! Why was he being so nasty to her?!
"Oh, really?!" She screamed. "WELL, YOU JUST WAIT! I'll have a weapon and a title and a sense of pride before you can say 'Tahigwa doesn't care' one million times! YOU'LL SEE! I can be responsible JUST LIKE YOU!"
She flung the towels towards Yaholo and dashed out the front door, vanishing into the trees, hopefully to vent. What a jerk, she'd show him!

Pahana's mouth twisted as Yaholo barked, but his words to her given the utmost attention. Okay, it was dangerous for her to be here, he could get in serious trouble if she stayed, so he wanted her to go home where he felt she was safe. Well, that sounded reasonable and all, but... How would she get home? She didn't know how to get back...
"Um..." She muttered as Tahigwa raced away. "I understand and I will go home, but... Is there someone who could take me home? I don't know how to get back on my own..."
Then, she snuggled up to him again. "Is she going to be okay?" She asked. "Should I go after her, or tell your mom where she went?"
