She smiled, petting his hair until he finally started to calm down. Well that was a good sign at least, she was worried he wan't going to calm down for much longer. "Don't be sorry love." she said to him with a smile. When he asked her if they were going to keep the baby she frowned. "Do you want to? I had assumed we would, I mean we do have the room…" she trailed off. She hadn't even considered that he might not want the baby

He looked up at her, as if afraid she would hit him.
"I didn't mean... yes, Yes... I mean... uh..." He trailed off into nothingness, "I m-meant, that, uh, you're the one who's pregnant and I just wanted to know..." he closed his eyes and counted to three.
"I just don't know if..." his thought fell away, unfinished, "Can you do it, z-zuri?"

She didn't understand the question. Could she have a baby? Could she be a mother? This was a side of her husband that she had never seen before. Why was he doubting her now? She had always felt that he trusted her, believed in her, but now she wasn't so sure. Maybe having a baby wasn't the best thing to happen to them after all. "Your mother did it, as did mine. Why wouldn't I be able to do it?" she asked, a bit of anger in her voice that she couldn't hide.

Biroki flinched. "Thats not..." It wasn't what he had meant, not at all! "I was just asking..."
So often now she looked at him like that, with that look that he couldn't describe. Maybe not so often, but enough that it scared and confused him.
"But I g-guess you gave me the answer. You do want it." He closed his eyes. "Then I... I guess I have a room to fix up..." He was lying down, so it wasn't obvious, but he could feel himself shivering and shaking in ways unrelated to his injuries.

Zuri sighed. She knew that he didn't mean it. "I'm sorry my love, my moods have been thrown for a loop and they won't get any better." she said as she kissed him. "Do you want it my love? If you think we aren't ready than I'm sure there is something we could do…" she trailed off. She wanted the baby, yes, but not if he didn't want it. If he didn't want to start a family with her because he wasn't ready, well than they wouldn't have the baby.

"NO! YES! I Mean..."
He leaned back at the bed, looking up at the ceiling. "I'm... I'm just scared, Zuri..." He curled around her, "I'm scared." He wanted the baby, now that he could think clearly, he knew he did. He wasn't ready, but ready... would that ever happen? He wanted a child, but he hadn't really thought about it...
Until now.
"A-aren't you?"

She contuined to stroke his hair. He was scared, and that was reasonable. Now that she knew that he wanted it as well she was calmer and happier. She didn't want to think about what would have happened if he said he didn't want it. "Of course. I'm scared that something will happen to me while I'm pregnant to harm me or the baby. I'm scared to be a bad mother, after all I never had mine when I was young… But I think that is normal. I think everyone is a little scared, no one can ever be ready. At least not with their first child." she offered.

Oh gods. He didn't want to think about HARM. To the baby. To her.
Oh gods they could be harmed.
Oh gods so many things could go wrong. He was even MORE afraid now.
"... I didn't have either." said Biroki quietly. He rested his head on her abdomen- realizing suddenly that he wasn't alone. There was another life stirring just under his head. The thought was scary, but not like the others. It was scary in a good way.
"Zuri?" he said, looking up at her beautiful face. "Could you... tell me about your father?" since that was really the only parent they had between them. Reshel was an uncle, a guardian, and a teacher. But neither he nor Biroki had ever had the illusion that he was a father.

She smiled at him, though it was a sad kind of smile. However the two of them didn't have parents growing up, or rather two parents, and they turned out pretty well. Than again they both had great males in their lives, Zuri had her father and Biroki had his uncle. When Biroki asked about her father her face brightened. "He was amazing. He was a magic user, like you, and very compassionate. He was very wise and on the council for the ice tribe. Many people went to him for advice. He took in my twin siblings when their parents passed out. He believed that family is very important." she finished.

Biroki smiled. Her father sounded like a good man. He was strong and smart and he had raised three kids, two of which were not his own. And he raised them well, if Zuri was any indication. He'd never met Alek or Kayin, but from what Zuri had told him, they were just as wonderful.
Well, maybe not as wonderful. Zuri was his wife. Imperfect but beautiful.
He seemed calm and quiet for a moment.
"Z-zuri?"
he said, breaking the silence, "D... do you think I could... Maybe... be like him?"

She kissed his head again. "My love, my father was an amazing man and a wonderful father. But I'm sure that you will be amazing. Maybe a different kind of amazing, but amazing none the less. You can teach our kids to appreciate the world and it's beautiful, and maybe if they are magically inclined you can teach them you're amazing skills. I know you will be an amazing father Biroki." she said lovingly.

"I'm not amazing." he was so far from amazing, it was crazy. He was a pitiful wimp who couldn't win any battle he was in.
But she had said something interesting: that he could teach them how to appreciate the world around them. He had never thought he could actually teach that to anybody- most didn't really want to hear it. Some rolled their eyes when he talked about the beauty of tendaji. Some even laughed at him. Zuri didn't, but he could see some laughter in her eyes, and though it was pleasant, it still counted. Even Reshel laughed at him sometimes.
But maybe, just maybe, if he explained it right, he could make sure his children understood him, at least. Child. He sort of hoped that they could just have one to start. Just the idea of one small child that was his, somehow his, was completely overwhelming. "I... guess I can..." he said, "Maybe... m-maybe the kid will actually listen to me." who even knew.
But he was liking the idea more and more. Someone to teach to understand him... it was... nice.
"I guess... I should get started working on that room so it's less like a, uh, closet. I... don't want our baby to be in a closet..."

Zuri huffed. He was amazing, he was her perfect kind of amazing and she didn't like him thinking that he wasn't. When he said that he could, and that maybe the kid will listen to him she shook her head. "Of course they will! You'll be their father, and I know if it's a girl daughters normally look up to their fathers. I know I did." she mused. She wasn't sure what she wanted more, a boy or a girl. After thinking for a second she decided that she didn't really care either way. She would love her daughter, or her son.

When he said he would start working on the room she nodded. "I will help when I'm feeling better. For now though I think we should rest. After all we just traveled a long way to come home, plus you've had some big news. What do you think my love?" she asked pleasantly. She could do with a nice long nap.

"They do?" he said, surprised. If daughters looked up to their fathers, did sons usually look up to their mothers? What if one had two mothers? He wished that he had known either of them. He hoped he could get to know Sen'oda, at least.
Then again, Zuri had grown up with her father, and met her mother later. So perhaps she was biased...
"Resting sounds like a good idea..." he agreed, a yawn catching him right at the end. Between the tournament and the travel, he had been feeling fatigued. And then... this on top of it? Suddenly he felt very, very tired.
He looked up at Zuri, his expression thoughtful. He studied her face, then smiled, mentally inventorying what they had, the familiar pre-sleep routine calming and fun.
"I'll go out gathering when I wake up... you just rest, all right?" the when of waking up didn't matter. He was usually a daytime shifter, but he slept whenever he wished, just about. And there were all sorts of things that you could find at either time, all of which he needed.
He also needed time to think. Lots of time to think.
