If he knew how to answer all her questions, he would have done so in a heartbeat, except he had a feeling what she wanted to know, and it wasn't something he could give a genuine answer to. He had agreed to give this a chance, to start over, but he knew that wouldn't take away the pain he had already caused. Had he known why exactly he had forgotten her, he would have told her, but as of now, it was only a hunch, an until he had all the details, he couldn't answer that. Not truthfully, though he sincerely hoped he wasn't as shallow as he thought, and that the reason, though none good enough to ease her pain, would at least answer both their questions.
But for now, he only settled for the ones she asked him, and to be honest, he found a little hard to answer. He supposed saying that he wanted to sleep some more probably wasn't what she wanted to hear, and he didn't want her leaving in the state she was, knowing that she probably would just end up crying again, so he opted for the latter.
"I... um, don't know. I can't remember." He supposed that answered both questions, and even though they weren't very good or what she wanted to here, at least they were honest.

She would have loved to hear what he really wanted, and not what he thought she wanted to hear. With her current mindset she wanted nothing but brutal honesty. Plus, sleep was a healthy thing. As it was, she blinked at him. She wasn't entirely sure if he was answering both questions or not. "You don't remember?" Clearly he was referring to her second question. "Can I ask you what you do remember?"

Sometimes, the truth hurt. He was doing you a favour, Sherry. Maybe.
"Um..." He scratched the back of his head, wondering why she brought it up all of a sudden. "It's near... the end of September, I think, though I don't think that's when I was actually born. I can't... remember." Try as he might, all that came up was a blank when he tried to remember his actual birth date.

She put a hand on his shoulder. There was a lot that Jake couldn't remember, and it made Sherry feel sad. She only forgot a few things it seemed, and when she tried to think of those things she only felt a little lost and confused. Jake... had it so much worse.
"I'm sorry." She felt bad about bringing it up. "But...if it's near the end of September then it's right on top of us." She tried to sound a happy. "We can always double check it on your paperwork somewhere."

"September 27th, 2009." He had no idea where that date had come from. "It was when I, when I..." A hand clutched his face as he tried to remember. A voice. A hand. A smiling face. But why couldn't he remember that face? "... Sorry. I know that date's important, but I can't remember why."

Sherry was growing concerned again. The hand on his shoulder squeezed lightly, then began to move back and forth in something meant to be a comforting motion. "It's ok. We'll work with that for now," she smiled.

Her touch made him flinch, but when she started rubbing his back, he relaxed, finding the motion oddly soothing. He turned his head to give her a curious look. "Um, work with that? What are you planning on doing?"

She took his relaxing as a sign that what she was doing was ok, so she didn't stop.
"I honestly don't know yet," she replied. It was soon and they were kind of running with bare essentials at the moment. "Probably not too much." She had a feeling he'd be ok with that. Maybe.

It didn't help that the backrub was making him sleepy, but he also didn't want her to stop, so he arched his back, trying to sit up straight and stay alert.
"Not too much?" He was going to keep questioning you until you gave him a proper answer, Sherry.

"Well, normally," she began, not sure how to take his movement, "I'd get you something." She lifted her palm, but let her fingers continue running over his back. "Or make you something. But with portals down and limited resources..." She held up her free hand in an 'it can't be helped' gesture.

Feeling her fingers on his back, it sent a shiver down his spine, and he resisted the urge to tremble. "You don't... have to get me anything..." He only stared at her free hand, still feeling her other at his back, and found himself enjoying it far too much. "Um, Sherry, what are you doing..."

"I know." The reply was as much reflex as anything. But then she froze. "Um, sorry, nothing." She pulled her hand away from his back. It had started as a gesture of comfort, but she realized she'd gotten a little carried away. "I uh, didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

As she pulled her hand away, Jake couldn't hide the frown that formed. "Wait, no, I-" His face flushed, and he turned his head away. "It, uh, felt nice."

She couldn't hide the hint of a smile that touched her mouth. His reaction was classic Jake, and it was comforting, even if she'd read it wrong a moment ago. "Well, uh, I could continue, if you wanted."

His head was turned away, embarassed he had spoken. "I... I'd like that."
