"When I make contracts, both parties benefit. But there's tempting, and there's tricking. It's what your kind does. You look very appealing, and then you drag your victim into the water and eat them. Contracts can be that way. You might agree to something that seems very nice, and end up dead, or worse. It's dangerous. With a single ill-advised Contract, I could lose you forever. Christof knows. His Creator owns him, via a Contract. He lost his tongue. Every invention, every secret, every scrap of trust you and I invest in Christof doesn't belong to us any longer. It belongs to Dr. Fell. All it would take is a few words and a handshake, you could be in the same boat. Dr. Fell fortunately intends to sell Christof and forfeit the Contract, but if I want him, I will have to pay very dearly for him. Demon games are always deadly serious. I don't practice temptation."
Barth considered Calder's perspective on herds.
"In a way. We have households. Flings, personal relationships, they're all one thing. A dalliance here or there doesn't make someone a member of a household. And you are, of course, free to bring monsters in or show them out as you like. My mother and father don't keep each other up to date on how they spend their free time. But business partners are another thing. In that sense, you and Christof are a part of my herd."

"So, Zar is a business partner. One you are keeping close like me? I had hoped I was more than just business." He knelt down, setting his hands on Barth's lap and looking up. "Kelpies mingle, but only in their herd. They aren't shared outside to the entire clan. If you bring someone into your herd, it's a herd I'm in. It's one I would like a say in, or at least know about, because they will mean something to me...because they mean something to you." He rose up, pressing his lips to Barth's own, pushing his weight against him as he climbed into his lap.
Breaking the kiss, he looked down at him, setting his hands on the demon's shoulders. "If I bring someone, you will know, as they will be in out herd. Consider that and what that means to me and everyone involved." He wrapped his arms around the demon, ears going back as he set his chin on his shoulder. "...you're not the only one who worries about loosing someone forever."

Barth rested a claw under Calder's chin. "There isn't more than business. Business is the very top of the priority list."
He kissed Calder, winding the perspective around his mind.
"Consider, for us, that is rarely the sole binding element of cooperation. Assets, skills, those are the things which tie a business together. Friends are valuable indeed. I'm sorry if it's all a bit...chilly. For me, it is always a matter of sssurvival."
Barth's claws took Calder's sides gently.
"You are...very valuable to me. and I care for you. There is a long road ahead, and I am willing to put as many years of investment as it takes. At great personal risk, if necessary."

A grin curled on Calder's lips as he took Barth's chin and kissed him again, forcefully, and nipped his lower lip before letting his weight settle on the demon's lap fully. "Then I guess we'll just have to work on understanding each other a little more in regards to these new business partners..."
He pressed a hand on Barth's chest and pressed down, using his weight to lay the demon down. "..and herd members."
Green eyes dilated again. "Like for one, the punishment in welcoming said partners into a group without notifying your first partners. Also, the fact you went around and expended energy on someone else without notifying me. That is to also say that Zar will also be held accountable. He knew I was with you and still played with you last night. He should know you and I are under a certain contract as it were. Then there is the delicacies of herd hierarchy which I now have to start educating you about. This is as much business for me as it is for you and him. Now..." He leaned his body over the demon.
"...since you had so much energy last night to make a investment with your new business partner, I'd like to strengthen my contract with you with a deposit. I have to reward you after all since you are giving me a demon as a present, and also showed me that you actually have more energy than you let on. That means I'm going to hold you to a even higher endurance than I thought of before."
Nipping a demonic ear, he whispered. "I look forward to working with you, Rosebud."

Even tired, Barth's pulse quickened as Calder pushed him back into the bed. "W-well, if...if I deserve to be punished-"
Barth looked as if he very badly needed to be. He hesitated.
"But Zar is still- you know, a potential business partner, so I'd ah, I'd appreciate, if you were kinder-"
Although lost focus at the nipping and recentered weight. His thoughts got a bit dizzier.
"What was that part about endurance?"

"Oh, I'll be very kind to Zar." He said, his voice deep and emitting a low grunt from the very back of his throat. He flared his nostrils at the idea. "...since he was kind to you."
Zar needed to know his place in this situation and the herd hierarchy, and deserved his own talk.
As for endurance, the kelpie started to pop off buttons, taking one in between his fingers and ripping it off by the fragile threads. "Well, if you have enough energy to take on another business partner, you either have enough energy for it that you've been keeping from me, or you will need enough energy to handle taking on someone else. I'm raising your stamina bar, my dear little blue-bud." He reached over and gripped his vest by the front, hooking a finger where the V dipped. "..and don't you dare think about sleeping through it." To which he ripped at the front, sending buttons popping onto the bedspread to roll off and clatter on the carpet below.
