For a moment, Boaz sat there speechless, unsure as to what he should say or if anything should be spoken at all. "I'm sorry about your brother. You must have been very close with him." He finally managed although his mind was still reeling from Mel's loss. Her brother couldn't be very much older or younger than her and even then, there weren't many diseases short of an accident that could take the life of one so young.
His expression turned somewhat sombre then at his question triggering such a painful memory for her, his hands clasped together as he quickly tried to change the conversation topic to something more or less current. "So you've been here on your own for like... 5 to 6 years now?"

Mel slips her teeth over her bottom lip as she chews on it for a brief moment. Looking down, she shakes her head before she looks back up at him. She gives him a smile as she lifts her hand to the cross around her neck "Its alright, in the end, it was better that he passed on...rather then live in pain for much longer." it wasn't a lie, but just thinking about him made her think about their final moment together. She couldn't help but tilt her lip up into a small smile before she chuckles "Beside, he was always so full of life. He wouldn't want me to be sad ever. He once told me...Mel..your gonna find someone who will love you just like me..don't ever let them go." she laughs alittle before lifting a finger to tug on a curl.
It didn't sting as much as it did in the past, talking about her brother.
But then, she knew he was watching over her.
With a small nod, she glance down only for a moment "Pretty much, I lived at Crystal Academy while I was attending. Only went home during the summer, then once I graduated I decided to stay her." she paused for only a moment "I do have my cousins though, they live in the city. Not to mention I have a cousin moving here from England who will be staying with me." she turns her green eyes back towards him "So I'm not really alone..." well she was, at least as far as the love department.

Mel was strong and independent. That much Boaz could safely conclude from her account as to what drove her to move to Destiny City despite the many associated difficulties she would have to face all by herself without the support of her parents who chose to remain back in England. "Even if you say so, it must have been hard on you and your family at the very beginning with his passing. You seem to have come a long way since then and I'm sure that he is proud of you wherever he is at the moment."
He could respect this aspect of her. After all, he too had his personal reasons for choosing to pursue a medical degree in Destiny City and then taking up a residency post here. "I see. That's good to hear then." He smiled, figuring that he might as well share a little about himself and his family given what he now knew about hers. "I've been here on my own for about six years now. My family and twin brother stay in the next city and I try to pay them a visit whenever I get to take a couple of days off work."

Mel nods as she looks down at her drink, running her fingers along the rim of the glass "I was hard, honestly the first week was a blur for me after his passing. It really didn't feel real, instead it was almost like a nightmare I couldn't wake up from. Everything made me cry, even just hearing his name." she chews on her bottom lip for a moment, just tugging on it with her teeth "It took awhile, but it got better. Now I can just think about him, and smile." she laughs before looking up at Boaz "So yes, in a way..I've come along way. And I know he proud of me."
She arched a brow before she smiles "Wait there another one of you running around. Is he as hot and charming like you?" she teases, hoping to see if she can figure out how he felt about her. Honestly, she was just looking for him to tease back, or even show maybe he was interested "So what made you decide to come to Destiny City, instead of staying with your own family?"

Boaz began to look a little sombre when Mel spoke of her experience shortly after the death of her younger brother. It was somewhat similar to what he went through after the accident up in the hills that took away Alonzo's ability to walk. He kept a kindly smile on his face however, willing away the memories lest his emotions started to get the better of him. "You look prettier when you smile. I'm sure that he will prefer that what you and your parents remember of him put a smile on your faces instead of a frown."
Picking up his glass, he took a small sip from it, smiling a little wider at her teasing while he contemplated how best to describe his older twin to her. "Yeah. Alonzo's my older brother actually. He... has been wheelchair bound since a childhood accident and he's studying to be an Art teacher. I could introduce him to you if you like." He personally wouldn't mind if she chose to date Alonzo instead of him really. It wasn't as if Alonzo had a lot of options with regards to finding a girl who would be willing to accept his current circumstances.
That was partly why he and his family thought it best for him to do his residency in another city. The way that he was planning his life around Alonzo was growing to be a little too much for all of them. "I guess I needed to be on my own for a bit but not too far in case I'm needed back home. The hospital I'm currently working in had a couple of places available and I lucked out with my application." He related with a small shrug, still smiling the entire time. He wasn't lying to her but neither was he telling her the entire story at this point.

Mel was actually caught off guard by his comment about her smile, which ended up causing her to blush. Looking down at her lap, she lifts a finger to her mouth to bite at the tip of it. Turning her eyes back towards him, she shakes her head for a brief moment "How about I get to know you first? Then maybe I can meet your brother." she hope that didn't come out as bad as it sounded.
She would love to meet Alonzo, but she wanted to know everything she could about Boaz first. Leaning slightly forward, she chuckles for a brief moment over his story "And you lucked out on being my doctor." she teased again before she sat back, her legs crossing at the ankles.
She was hoping she could get him to react to her, so she did the only thing she knew might work. Uncrossing her legs, she brush her foot against his own foot.
An accident of course....

"That's fine." Boaz smiled and nodded a few times when Mel politely declined his offer to introduce her to Alonzo. He wasn't sure himself what came over him back there. Mel had after all expressed her interest in him and even though Alonzo and him were identical in appearance, they were two individuals with dissimilar personalities and hobbies at the end of the day. It wasn't right of him to simply point Mel in Alonzo's direction like that even if he thought that he would be acting in his older brother's interest.
Fortunately for him, Mel didn't seem upset at all from what he did if her teasing was anything to go by. He took another sip from his glass then leaned back to relax in his chair. "Yeah. And you're the very first patient I've ever come across in my career to confess your attraction to me." He admitted with a blush colouring his cheeks. If he was reading things right, it seemed that things were hitting off nicely between the both of them so he supposed that he ought to be a gentleman and take things to the next step even if he hadn't any idea as to what came next.
Perhaps a formal proposal for a first date would be appropriate for a start?
He felt the brush of her foot against his, fleeting and perhaps more than an accidental occurrence as he too decided to respond in kind as he spoke. "... just as I'll now admit that I'll really like to get to know you more and see if we can get along well in the days to come. If it's not too presumptuous of me to assume that you're keen on that notion that is..." He wasn't exactly teaming with ideas as to where they ought to hang out together for their first date but he supposed that an upcoming con that he was supposed to volunteer for in servitude to the Negaverse would do so long as he got her out of there before things got bat s**t crazy.

Mel couldn't help but smile when Boaz seem to admit that he wanted to get to know her better. This was a good thing in her eyes, it meant that he was interested. Giving him a small nod, she chuckles "I actually would like this very much. Maybe we could go out, meet up somewhere, and just enjoy hanging out. See how we do when I'm not just being blunt and off the wall?" she wasn't really sure where they could go on the first date.
She knew of the convention coming up, and was mildly curious about it. It would would be something different, that was for sure.
Looking back down at her glass, she push a couple curls from her face.
This was turning out alot better then she expected.

"How about..." Boaz smiled sheepishly as he broke off for a bit to figure how best he should put across his intended proposal for their first date. "There is a convention next week at which I'm volunteering to cover First Aid duty. I should be able to go around the booths during my break so... you think you'll be interested in giving something like that a go?" It was either that or the movies, only that he wasn't really sure as to whether anything good was on at the moment as well as what Mel would prefer.
Glancing over at her, he rolled his sleeves up a little then reached for his glass. If the convention didn't pique her interest, he was certainly open to alternatives. Anything to get them both going was good in his book at this point really.

She was starting to wonder if Boaz could read her mind.
Looking towards him, she nods as she taps her glass "Actually, I was planning on checking the convention out. It looks pretty interesting, plus I am hoping to add to my collection from a few series of books I love." she didn't name them off, only because she had too many she honestly enjoyed.
"How about I meet you there? We could make it a date?" she was trying not to get over excited on the notion that he wanted to take her on a first date. They were just two adult, having a good time.

"Oh? What kind of books are you into?" Between his vocation and what was expected of him as part of the Negaverse, Boaz found that he hardly had time to read for leisure these days. But still he was curious as to what Melinda liked hence the question, figuring that her answer would at the same time afford him another insight as to what kind of individual she was.
"That works for me. We can even meet for dinner after that if you wish." He offered. An afternoon at the convention followed by dinner - all entirely safe options that he hoped would do to get the both of them off to a good start.

Melinda looks actually surprised when he agreed to meeting with her, then asking her out for dinner afterwards. Giving him a small nod, she felt her cheeks darken "I...um...well.." she felt so strange, but at the same time she felt like she could tell Boaz anything "Huge fan of the Hunger Game series, and Harry Potter." she gives a weak chuckle before pushing her hair out of her face.
"Is it bad I am actually excited about this?" she plays with the hem of her shirt, feeling really embarrassed that she just admitted that out loud.

Boaz had admittedly been worried for a moment as to what Melinda would think if he didn't know anything about her interests so he was immensely relieved when Harry Potter came up as one of the two series she was hugely interested in. While he wouldn't declare himself a know-it-all when it came to the Harry Potter fandom, he at least knew enough from the movies he caught previously to hold some semblance of a conversation hopefully.
"Ah... so which house do you see yourself in if you were to study at Hogwarts?" He posed before sheepishly admitting his ignorance of the other series that was brought up. "You'll probably have to fill me in on what the Hunger Games is about though since I know absolutely nothing about that." Taking another drink from his glass, he smiled at her question. "Well... I think it's a good indication that you're interested in what I've suggested for our very first date so far."
If things went well, there might be a chance for a second date.
Maybe even a third.

Melinda smiles as she leans back a little in her chair, placing her hands in her lap "See that the strange thing, I have taken a ton of those online quizzes." she lifts one hand to run it over the side of the table "And I have literally come up with either Ravenclaw or Slytherin. I guess I would fit both of those houses." she shrugs as she glance around for a brief moment "Its strange, because I wouldn't see myself as a Slytherin.." she pauses as she looks up at him "But, in a way I am. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done, or get what I want if I want if bad enough." she gives Boaz a small smile.
Like being upfront with him, and flat out telling him she was attracted to him.
"So yea, that is me as far as Harry Potter fandom. I actually have a Slytherin shirt in the back of my closet. I am hoping I will find a Ravenclaw one soon." she couldn't believe how hard it was to find them. Shaking her head, she found herself blushing when she realized she been talking non stop "So, what house do you think you would be in?"

Setting the glass down with a smile, Boaz nodded at Mel's words. "I see. Like what happened earlier today back at the hospital which brought us both to where we are now." He was probably a prude for thinking that the guy should be the one confessing his feelings of adoration for a girl in this day and age, but that didn't mean that he was adverse to what Mel had pulled off which was exactly what he tried to convey to her next lest she got that impression based on what he had just said.
"Not that what you did was wrong or bad. It simply reflected your courage and determination. Perhaps you'll find a Ravenclaw shirt at the Con to complete your collection."
He twiddled his thumbs at the question that was posed right back to him. "I have tried a few of those online quizzes myself. They have consistently sorted me into Hufflepuff which probably suits me best given my personality." While he could list some of the traits that were common in himself and those sorted to Hufflepuff in the fandom, he didn't want to risk embarrassing himself in front of her just on the off chance that he might have remembered some of the facts wrong.
