"Oh I've met some flutters, not Pancake or Paperweight, but I did just meet the most adorable little guy named Paper Lantern. He was very sweet and helped me on some new recipes." She said cheerily, almost missing his little sneer.

"No, the first woman and I had very different views on what love was... and the second woman.... I'm afraid we didn't even give each other much of a chance. We both have businesses that keep us very busy. Though I would like the company... and I maybe like to try and meet a nice guy-- Oh dear! Why am I even rambling on about my love life? I'm sorry." She said knocking a hoof to her head. Ask the question and it will be answered maybe to thoroughly sometimes!

Her cheerful smile would return when she was asked about her children again. "Oh my other son's name is Rosewrite. He is a writer... of all kinds articles, journals, poetry. He even does art along with it sometimes, but it all seems to be plant based. He's always had a fondness for plants."

Oh my when he grows up, maybe he will come back to impress miss Sweet Bread. xDD

"...That's him," Truths verified, pointedly waving a buttered croissant. "The one I meant. Paperweight. The other one's his brother; intelligent and far less social." So Sweet Bread thought Paper was sweet, did she? Was that a twinge of jealousy he felt? Nah. Couldn't be.

Sitting up a little straighter as she apologized, Truths shook his head vigorously and swallowed his mouthful of bread so he could speak. "Mm - no, no, please don't be sorry," he pleaded. "I was the one who asked in the first place. And I don't ask if I don't want to know, trust me. There aren't a whole lot of things I care enough about to waste time on." Wait, that came out wrong. "I mean...there are...few things I find precious or important enough to use my time and energy on or learn about. You just...strike me as someone worth getting to know is all."

He was talking too much. Saying things before he thought about them. Maybe it was better if he just kept his mouth full. He took a big bite of a cheese-covered bagel. "Mmm...good..." he told her in a muffled voice. Oh, great, now he he was being rude by talking with his mouth full. She probably saw him as a complete and utter slob.

"Rosewrite..." Truths repeated, committing the name to memory. "Sounds intriguing. Quite the talent. And...your daughter? Is she your only other child?"

((Lol, that's what I'm both wondering and worrying about. XD I hope he doesn't end up pestering her too much or too often.))

"So you call him Paperweight? How strange." The nickname sounded kind of mean to her, but maybe that's just how kids were now. She tried to think of any mean names that children could of called her first set of children.... but thankfully non came to mind. The second set however.... their looks were enough to get made fun of. Thankfully they weren't out of their packages juuuust yet.

She tilted her head at first not understanding what the foal meant. Was she wasting his time... She thought that maybe she should go, but he quickly reworded himself. "Oh... well I'm glad. I'm also glad you seem to be enjoying your food." Sweet Bread smiled warmly.

"Let's see. Then there is Red Velvet, my daughter. She is .... spunky? I think she will be a deliver of some sort. She's always running errands, but she's not quiet grown up yet." She had a hoof up her her mouth, thinking about her daughter and wanting to catch back up with her soon. "Oh, I do have more kids but they aren't out of their blisterpacks just yet.... but they are a little strange. Oh..I mean... They aren't strange, they are precious and lovely.... they just look a little odd. I think it's some Halloween tricks going on." In air of worry in her voice. She did love the children and couldn't wait to meet them, but it still worried her. "...But those are my only children right now. I do love kids so much though."

The mare's comment made Truths slightly uncomfortable in a less positive way than before and he wondered if she disapproved. "Yes...I mean...it's one of those...uh...terms of affection," he said quickly. "A nickname only I call him. He...doesn't seem to mind all that much." Not as much as his prissy brother, in any case.

"Yes, yes, it's very good!" he agreed heartily. "But I suppose that's only to be expected from the best baker in Phonyland." He finished off his bagel slice as she spoke of her daughter, happy to listen and not have to talk with a full mouth for a bit.

"I see," he said, nodding. Then paused. More? What a busy baker indeed. "Oh. Hmm...well I'm sure they'll grow to be kind-hearted, generous, and sweet just the same so long as they're raised by you," he offered. "It's like with baked goods, right? An appetizing exterior is nice, but it's what's on the inside that counts. No one wants to go for beautifully-prepared pastries that taste horrible, but those daring enough to try the misshapen ones will be well-rewarded. It's what's on the inside that counts."

He took a deep drink of the orange juice she set out for him, glad to have something to wet his parched throat. After a few swallows, he said, "Miss Sweet Bread...I don't want to take up too much more of your time with all you have to do, but something you said before made me curious. Earlier you mentioned that you and your...the other mothers of your children had different views on what love was than you did." He cocked his head with a perplexed look. "Would it be too bold of me to ask what your view of it is?"

Her face flushed when he called her the best baker in phonyland. There were plenty of other bakers that did just as good of job as she did.... maybe they even did better, but she was glad to know she had a fan. "Thank you so much Hard Truths... and even more so for putting my head back in the right place. You are right. Those kids will be something else but they have two mommies that love them and hopefully everyone one else can see through their exteriors."

She tilted her head, sorry to hear him leaving so soon. But looking at the time it seemed they had been sitting here a while now. What she popped in the oven a little while ago should be juuuust about done. "I suppose I did say different views.... well I don't particularity know what my views are yet. I think I'm looking for love just like everyone else and when I find it I'll know. Their views were different, but not wrong...." She paused for a little bit trailing off from her sentence trying to think of the right words. "Work seems to cause a lot of friction. I need someone who is understanding and have career goals of their own? I don't know.... I say that, but who knows. I suppose I really won't know until I find it."

She gave a small uplifting smile. "You just came in for breakfast and look where you ended up..." Sweet gave a laugh and shook her head, already bouncing back from the serious subject that still dwells inside of her. "Before you leave.... do you have any views on love yet?"

Kitomyx
Hehehe, I don't think she will mind either. I reaallly really hope they meet back up when he grows up. *cough* And I hope she might be single. *cough*

Truths tried to seem indifferent and his ruddy complexion hid it well, but he flushed to know something he'd said had made Sweet Bread flush. Clearing his throat, he gave a stately nod in response to her thanks. "Anyone who can't obviously won't be worth their time. In a way, I'd say, it's something of an advantage over being ridiculously beautiful like yourself."

He stopped, eyes widening as he realized what he'd said. Not only was it an incredibly fool-hardy, reckless remark expressing a little more of his opinion than intended, but he'd also somehow managed to turn another compliment into a partial insult. "That is...I mean...you must get all sorts of phonies fawning over you with no way to tell the ones who like you for your appearances over those who like you for who you are. At least your, uh...childrens' strangeness will provide something of a filter to keep the former at bay."

This seemed to be what happened whenever he couldn't decide what image he wanted to give to someone he admired. Did he want them to know he liked them or not? Did he want to be thought of as a gentleman or a jerk? Politely flattering or honestly blunt and rude? Such conflict had pestered him in the past among his peers like Acid Beat, yes, but never to the extent he made multiple slip-ups like this.

His usual policy was to be his usual, grumpy, rude, honest self and to treat everyone the same while trusting those who could would see him for who he really was. With a few phonies, though - particularly females, he'd noticed - he found he wanted them to think well of him so much that he ended up forgoing his usual jerk attitude.

The struggle between keeping up his hard-earned reputation and wanting certain phonies to like him evidently resulted in odd, mixed confessions of honest feelings in weird insult-compliments like the one he'd just spoken. He'd just never noticed until now because this was the worst it had ever been! Yup, definitely a sign he needed to get going before he entirely lost his ability to reason.

...He still wanted to know the answer to his question, though. "Oh. Don't you?" That was interesting. She knew what it wasn't, but not what it was. "I suppose one starts defining something by what it isn't rather than what it is first, don't they? That's understandable. Especially about as something as elusive, intangible, and complex as a feeling like love."

As for Truths, though, he already knew he had formed an opinion or two about love - like how he loved Sweet Bread's open mind. He loved that she didn't put down the other mares' ideas as wrong even if she might not have agreed with them. That was far more open and considerate than he felt he himself had the capacity to be; not when he enjoyed arguments so much and proving to others one way or another that they were, in fact, wrong. Those other mares must have been crazy to have parted ways with such a remarkable unicorn.

He nodded again as she mentioned a few criteria, subconsciously committing them to memory. Understanding, career goals...he could be understanding, right? As far as career goals...damn it, why was his brain automatically trying to apply these concepts to himself?! There was no reason for that! It was hardly even his business in the first place what kind of love she was looking for.

"That makes sense. More sense than having too much of a pre-conceived notion like some phonies do and then trying to measure every potential phony up to it." Raising his brows as she smiled at him, he glanced around as she mentioned where he ended up and immediately felt foolish yet again. "Ah...yes. I apologize; thank you for reminding me I should be taking my leave. I fear I might have lingered all day if you hadn't. Not that I'm usually so forgetful," he added quickly, once more suddenly worrying about what impression he was giving her. Her final question cut through his mental self-beration, however, and caught him by surprise. His mouth hung open for a moment or two before he realized how he must have looked and promptly closed it, glancing away self-conciously.

"My...? Er, well...I probably shouldn't, just being a foal and all," he said, carefully stacking all the dishes on the tray and placing them in a neat pile while deliberately avoiding her gaze. "But...I do have an idea of what I think an ideal love would be like." Ack! He almost dropped his glass with a shaky hoof, but managed to save it with a quick use of telekinetic magic. "I-it's...rather embarrassing to explain, though. And it would take more time than either of us have, I think."

Hoping off his seat on the counter, Truths gave Sweet Bread a small, shy smile. "But after you told me what you knew of your views, it's only fair I tell you mine. So...perhaps I can return here another time to do so. To keep things even." He studied his hooves. "If you even want to know, of course. I wouldn't wish to waste the time of such a busy, hard-working baker."

((Oh, trust me - you're not the only one hoping that. On both accounts. <3 Sorry I took so long and thanks for being patient with me! I wanted to make sure I could sit down and type this out just right.))

Ridiculously beautiful. Oh gooodness. What he trying to make her blush at this point? Her hooves found her cheeks and tried to hide the warmed fur that was already starting to make her feel dizzy. Though even through the blush she felt easy around Truths. He was clearly already far too mature for his own good and someone she really found herself enjoying talking to.

Her golden eyes would stare back to him as he idly stacked dishes and fiddled with his glass. She was pretty sure it was going to fall if he wasn't careful. But both of them being unicorns she was sure there wouldn't be anything they couldn't handle. Smiling the baker phony would finally let her hooves fall back to the table, even crossing them as she explained her views and listened to him start to stumble over his words.

"I suppose that does make sense, defining something by what it isn't first. Makes me feel a little bit better for not having a good grasp on what love is." The light purple gave a sigh of relief knowing she didn't actually have to have it all figured out right now. It would come eventually, right? ... or at least she hoped.

Her senses were brought back to the table as his cup almost toppled over but the quick reacting colt had it levitating back before she could. She would scoot it onto the rest of the dishes and would levitate them all together as they both slid out of their seats and on to the floor. She sent the tray floating over to the counter so she could take it back and put them all in the dishwater a little later.

"You didn't waste my time at all today. Thank you for coming in, trying a little bit of my food and sitting with me. It really was nice and I hope you come back soon, okay?" Her tail gave a little flick. Sweet really did hope he would come back and visit her from time to time. All too often now-a-days she was wrapped up in work and didn't make time for socializing. "Good bye, Hard Truths!~" She spoke softly and gave him a big wave already excited for their next meeting.

"Wh-what are you thanking me for?" the flustered foal managed to ask. "The pleasure was all mine. I only hope I can repay the favor in the near future." Bowing his head deeply, he said, "Thank you, Sweet Bread, for such a wonderful time. Until we meet again." And, allowing himself a small smile, he waved back before trotting out the door, in a far better mood than he had been coming in.

He just wasn't sure when he would summon up the courage to see her next now that he knew what she was like. Perhaps...perhaps when he had at least managed to attain the criteria she had mentioned would he be able to show his face to her again. Someday, though. Someday soon.
