"To be fair," he said, eyes still on his phone. "…I was here before I got your text."
He wanted to be angry. To be livid, like her. Wanted to yell, and break things. Everything just felt like it was slow motion. Raven's words were slow. His thoughts were slow. It felt like it took him forever to look up from the phone screen and back at her.
"You can't mean this," he said, though it wasn't an argument. It was a protest. A tired one. He pushed the phone back into his pocket and looked at Raven, at the book in her hand. They had been working things out, hadn't they? Everything had been lining up.
He had fought a lot tonight, but this wasn't something he could just let go. Not her.
"After everything. After everything. You'd call it quits? Just like that. We've fixed things before. What makes now so different?"

She looked at him, shaking her head. “Get out of my house, Jett. Or so help me I will call the cops. I will tell them you broke in, and I will tell them you were trying to take advantage of me. Now get back in that ******** mirror you crawled out from and get out.” She shoved him back towards the bathroom, shaking her head. “Don’t you dare come back. I don’t want to see you. I don’t want to hear from you. I’m done. I’m completely done.”
Why was he here? Why did he have to be here? She was so close to just losing it, and she didn’t want him here.

His eyes narrowed as he looked at Raven. His face was blank, sans for that small movement. He might have just been frozen with the idea, or he might have been sizing her up. He knew better than to doubt Raven. And he knew what this would look like to anyone else. He wasn't stupid.
Even though this whole plan suddenly seemed very stupid. He'd have gone back in time if he could have. He would have changed things.
But time didn't work that way.
And she wasn't changing her mind.
"Fine," he said, though didn't trust himself to say more. Nothing made sense.
While the front door would have sufficed, he powered up in front of her. If she wanted it like that, he'd leave. He'd go out, do more. Maybe he wasn't as tired as he thought.
And he was absolutely s**t at goodbyes. Especially hard ones.
He was quick to turn his back and march to the bathroom. The room felt suffocating. Her expression, her words, stabbed at him like needles.
It was all he could manage not to look back as he stepped through the mirror.

Raven’s lip twitched when he left. She followed him into the bathroom, watching his coattails slip through the mirror. Fine. Fine.
It was all fine. It was all going to be fine.
She climbed up onto the sink and threw the heavy book at the glass, sobbing as it all shattered around her.
As everything shattered around ********. It was all over now. Everything was…all over.
