She looked up at Mimsy, and the light in them had gone out, a star that had died in one, sudden, abrupt burst of flame.
(Too apt.)
"I d-don't understand," she repeated, her face contorted with grief. Her body shook. "C-can you tell me? W-why it's so funny?"

Jerry grabbed her shoulder and Candace swatted him away from her, glaring up at him. "Contagious? I can't believe y--"
Clerise.
Candace quickly stepped aside to let Clerise pass, a hand coming up to clamp over her mouth. "Clerise. I..I'm so.." Sorry? Well, yes..but...what was the point in saying sorry? It wouldn't bring Clarice back.
Please don't let this be real. This had to be one of those stupid dreams worlds where everything was backwards, or any second now the place would reset like in the Sahara, or Clarice would show up at the top of the stairs because that had been her golem.
H was always killing Clarice golems for demonstrations.
This was it. A Clarice golem..it..
Why it's so funny?
What?
Candace looked up and over her shoulder at Mimsy. "Are..are you laughing?"

"What's WRONG with you?" Jerry turned sharply to Mimsy, his face a mixture of looking like he was about to be ill and about to explode. "Whatever did this could still be around here-" And if someone as strong as Clarice had fallen... panic welled up in him, his hands now both clutching his weapon tightly. "We need backup- a higher up- Sh-should I text Allan? Oh god-"

He heard a voice, and it was not coming from the figure that was lying face down on the ground. Gale tilted his head back, eyes flickering towards the young woman running towards him, dark haired and dark eyed, a familiar blonde haired boy right in her wake. Gale pushed himself to his feet, brushing sand from his pants.
"No idea," he said, with a glance back at the figure on the ground. His gaze traced the sword in his hand, "I was going to turn him over, look at his face, but I wasn't quite sure that was a good idea, since he doesn't seem all that familiar to me from this point."
He glanced at Otto, then back at the girl.
"You called my name," he said curiously, tilting his head a little, brows furrowing in confusion. "Have we met somewhere before?
"Do I know you?"

The voice startled her a bit. "Mr. Bix? I'm-" Confused, a little antsy, blanking out here. "-okay." Stormy glanced up at the taller hunter, relieved not all of the advanced hunters were at the cave. "I-I was just . . ." Staring at the poor screaming hunter helplessly.
"Not something you've seen before I take it?" she asked, gaze turning back on the black marks with apprehension.

[Security Detail – Southern]
“Five more minutes yes….” He cried trying to slap the top of the alarm that was on the night table next to him. The alarm just kept screaming above as the somewhat familiar voice rang out.
{Oh just get up Matt, it’s not the alarm something wrong so get your lazy a** out of the bed…”} Kasi cried in his head.
“awfasdf… what… ok I’m up… what…” Matt replied pushing himself up and rubbing the sleep from his eyes. The PA system kept running the same message over and over, the crystal cove had been breach. It took another few minutes for his brain to process before he quickly threw off the covers.
{Finally… lets go.} He hopped around on one foot as he tried to pull one of the pant legs while grabbing the jacket form the closet.
After a couple minutes of cursing and noises that sounded like things crashing and tumbling over Matt was running down to the southern beach with Kasi in hand. So far everything looked normal.
Well normal except for the naked man holding a glowing sword while walking along the beach.
{OOoooooooooooOoooooooooooooooOOo he is cuter than you!} Kasi replied with a rather high pitch voice that resembled a girl screaming at a Justin Timberlake concert. {And look at those muscles ripple… bet you wish you spent more time in the gym doesn’t it.}
“Shutup…” He replied under his breath as he slowed down getting to the beach. A few other hunters were already there, some he assumed were likely higher up the food chain then he was.

Clerise's voice was easy to recognize above the sounds of chaotic motion that threatened to drown it out. She was questioning her, but that voice was devoid of hatred and malice and the venom that she was used to.
Had she forgotten?
Had she ******** forgotten about them?
That wasn't even cute. That was infuriating. All of the excitement she had been feeling a moment before was washed away, because Clerise had to take that too, because of course she did.
Mimsy moved her hands from her face and looked at her carefully. After a brief period of thought, she sighed and stepped towards her.
"Oh, sweetheart. Nothing about this is funny." She glanced at Candace before she spoke again. "My crying just sounds a little strange. That's all."
With a smile (which she tried very hard to force through), she reached to pet her hair.
"Do you need a hug?"

[Western Security]"No.." He inched forward, but not too far. "Insanity is usually grey and.." You didn't scream bloody murder. "It's not on you? You just found him like this?" Bix suddenly began looking behind him. Who else was coming? It's not like he had a headset to relay information. "We need a Lifer out here.. asap. I'm not good unless there's something to shoot. Don't touch anything.. and stay sharp. If it can spread we don't want it."

It didn't take long for Sasha to make her way to the caves, and just as that brilliant flash of light - of life - exploded into nothingness, she couldn't fight the smile that twitched at the corners of her lips.
Something was finally going her way.
It took a few moments for Sasha to realize that someone was crying brokenly, and when she turned to see who it was, she immediately stifled that awful smile before moving to crouch next to Clerise. Mimsy was spared a split-second narrow-eyed glance before Clerise was given all of her attention once more.
"It isn't funny," Sasha whispered softly to the redhead. "It isn't funny at all."
No, it was more like a ******** streak of luck, but Sasha didn't dare say such a thing aloud.

The sound of footsteps indicated the arrival of more hunters. Ian slid his hands into the pockets of his coat and slide a sideways glance at the pale-haired hunter who now stood beside him.
"Relatively certain the answer to that is no," said Ian lightly. "I"m, ah...not quite certain what's going on there."
He tilted his head. "You new here too?"

Otto. Upon seeing the other blond, a small grin found its way onto the young woman's face. Thank god--they were both safe, and there wasn't much else that Eva could ask for. So long as they had all made it back in one piece...
"I don't know why he's naked," She shook her head at Otto, turning back to the stranger and eying him with concern, "But assuming he's breathing and still alive, we should probably get him to the infirmary."
She reached out towards the stranger, only to pause and cast Gale a curious look at his question. There was a moment of silence, and then she slowly turned around to glance over her shoulder. Who was he talking to?
...
There was no one behind her. Brows furrowed, she turned back to look at him, her stomach suddenly twisting when she realized that his eyes were focused on her. Letting out a nervous laugh, Eva let her outstretched hand flop down onto her lap. "W...what are you talking about, Gale? I don't think now's the time for a joke! I mean, there's this poor guy here, and..."
She was still smiling, even if she knew in her heart that something was very, very wrong.

The stranger put a hand upon her head, and it was kind. Sasha came close, too, and she leaned her head against her friend, exhaling with a shudder.
Mutely, she picked up the blackened hand, and cradled it in both of hers, as if it would turn to dust if she disturbed it too suddenly.
{[ So this is how the world ends. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. ]}
"J-just making sure," she said, and it would have been an attempt at being funny had she been herself, but the words came out flat. "T-that I wasn't missing something."
(But she had just been there, a wall is just a wall, and a wall is-)
Clerise bit her lip to contain a sob, and did not realize she had done it so viciously it had drawn blood.

Deryk felt a little numb. He didn't get much time to settle as the alarms snapped him out of his daze. Blinking a little blearily, he rushed off towards the caves. However, he soon came to a dead halt as he realized the two great weapons of old were gone.
Not only that but..
Clarice.
His eyes widened before he turned, shielding himself from the blinding light. When he looked back, he paled visibly.
"Wh-what..?"

Apparently they were shunting all the newbies to the Eastern section of the Island? Or at least it felt that way. Taym wasn't even actually sure who'd yelled at him in the hallway, he'd just said a silent prayer of thanks that he slept in his clothes, yanked on his coat, and fumbled in the general direction of where he was pointed amidst the general red light and clamor of the alarms. He arrived in just about enough time to see the tentacle break the surface, and to hear the pink-haired Hunter ask about it, and he felt vaguely sick with anticipation.
He didn't volunteer any conversation, yet--just realized Fionnghal was in his hands without his even being aware he'd summoned her, an off-white gleam on the dark of the beach.

[Cave]"I... I'm t-texting Allan," Jerry announced, sweat brimming on his forehead as he shuffled his weapon to dig out his phone and start the text. Zoobey Text to Allan: SOS Clarice is His hands hovered over the keys. He couldn't type it. At least the unnerving sounds of sobbing had quieted and the women were attending poor Clerise. He drew a deep breath and finished Zoobey SOS Clarice is KIA. Requesting orders. No sign of enemy. Keep his head. He had to keep his head. Someone had to. "Everyone!! There's... there's no time to mourn right now! We need to... to figure out what happened!" His voice was shaky, but he steeled himself as best he could. The last thing they needed was for this invisible thief to catch them off guard.
