Evie seemed to have her arms crossed in displeasure, but at some point, she ended up hugging them close and the gesture seemed more like she was trying to comfort herself than be hostile.

"I know," She murmured, rolling back on her heels. And she did. Neutrality sucked. She had only recently experienced first hand how absolutely awful it was to be helpless and have someone else do her fighting for you. Asclepius took some real damage on her behalf and all she could do was cheerlead while someone fought for her life.

"I don't like..." Evie was more soft spoken than normal as she tried to rearrange her thoughts. "I know it's not right. Or okay. I don't like being... I don't like being... so...
weak."

She took a deep breath, as if the oxygen energized her ability to be stubborn and angry. "I can't protect her. I can't do anything except encourage her to stay out of the business of more capable soldiers. There's the universe and the world and it's selfish to think that my pitiful little family should come before some grand war of good and evil where so many lives hang in the balance. But it does," She ground her teeth together in the frustration that came with knowing this was the truth she decided on, and how much she didn't want it to be. "It has to. So I guess now you know I wouldn't be a great successor anyway."

She rolled her shoulders in half a shrug and looked at the sand. "Why me? We don't agree on anything. I'd think you'd pick Waylon or hell, even Lilith."

One thing easily set off the senshi, and before the girl's shrug was even finished, a pair of gloved hands had found their way to Evie's shirt, holding her by the approximate location of a collar. Her eyes fixated themselves to the blue ones across from her, a certain fire seeming to burn within them.

"I don't like that kind'a talk, and you aren't weak! Never call yerself that again, because it's a load of sh*t!"

She jostled the collar before she released it and turned away again.

It took quite a bit of time for her to actually regain her composure, and during that time she used her gloved hands to scoop up the dark sands beneath them and drizzle it down to the ground again. After four repetitions of such a simple task, she resumed speaking.

"You... you have such a f*ckin' amazin' kick... you don't even know... and I don't have siblings... but I have family and those I consider family. If I lost them... yes... I'd be pissed, I'd be sad.. I'd be all sorts of things... but I wouldn't give up on protectin' them! Or on protectin' yerself!"

She shook her head, as if she had planned to say something else, but decided against it. Once more, Iris seemed to lash out towards Evie, but this time it wasn't anything nearly as threatening. A single hand upon the girl's shoulder, a sign of respect.

"Ya remember when I nearly died? What would have happened if I had actually kicked it? It is something that has been botherin' me fer quite a while... I've probably been thinkin' this over fer over a year in all honesty. It ain't somethin' t'take lightly, ya know?"

There was a pause.

"I know we don't always get along... but ya got some strengths that I don't have. Yer smart, yer kickass, yer not afraid to point things out that are important, yer bold... these are things I think that make ya a better candidate than anybody else on th'team!"

Her hand abandoned the shoulder, but her eyes didn't abandon Evie's.

"...ya probably don't agree... and that's okay... but I figgered ya deserved t'know... this is my decision... and I don't want ********* t'know... in case yer really serious about leavin'... ya might think that yer family only ends with blood... but there are others out there that consider you family... don't.... jus' don't write'em off..."

"Don't tell me what I am, Iris, you don't know me," Evie tried to snap, but ended up choking a little. There wasn't even any fight put up when her shirt was grabbed.

"Things.. just-- ugh," She grabbed the sides of her head, wanting the pounding in her temples to stop. "I want to. I just want-- I want everyone to be okay! But I can't, something always slips by and I'm just not capable of protecting anyone! My sister and Irene were at the carnival massacre and I didn't even know until the other night. My cousin was in the organ smuggling ring. Every night a million things could happen. One ******** up and suddenly they just don't come home," Tears welled up, and there was something left unsaid there. Horrible things happened to Tara, and she came home. Horrible things happened to Dana and she came home. But one night someone didn't and Evie was feeling the same powerlessness she felt then all over again.

"I've never had a lot of friends, or people I could rely on. So this time with you guys was... weird, and different, and totally unasked for."

Her heart lurched a bit as Iris talked about kicking the bucket for good, and it was not helping, but just adding to how torn she felt between being there for the team, and the perceived conflict that she couldn't also be there for her family at the same time.

"But I want you guys to be okay too. I just don't know... I mean how could I--? I don't know how I could possibly..."

How did she fight for all these loved ones when she was failing so spectacularly at just taking care of the two she started out with? Just trying to wrap her brain about where her ethics dealt with this abandonment she committed made her pale and visibly nauseous paired with anxious and ragged breathing.

"Take me home, Iris," She muttered, hugging herself again and running the soles of one of her shoes against the sand grains.

Iris was learning new things, but she wasn't going to speak up about the things she didn't know happened.

Which left for an awful lot of silence on the eternal senshi's part. Eventually she just stood up, not even bothering to dust away the sand that snuck up her skirt. Instead she extended one hand towards the darker haired girl, and the other hand seemed to magically be holding onto the cell phone she had used to teleport the two of them to that world.

"...It's a pity ya keep doubtin' yerself..." With all the concern Evie had for the well being of others, she could have made an amazing vice-captain.

While hitting the proper buttons on her phone, she mentioned "...get yer a** up..."
