All he had were his few memories, clutched to so desperately in his heart. The great king had saved him, and his memories, but still, Loffie remembered nothing else.
Until the King, benevolent even though he was only a shattered fracture of himself, exhaled over him, with his blessing.
Then he remembered it, that thing he had been longing and searching for.
His name.
Efflo.
He, himself, was at last complete and he was warm. But he wasn’t whole yet, because the warmth of his heart, now locked away in a necklace, was incomplete without the cold touch of ghostly wisps wrapping around it.

Not the end.
Simmy felt overwhelming happiness for the flickering instant before everything she remembered broke apart into little pieces, and the happiness was gone and put together into something not quite like it - close, and she's grateful for it, but the happiness no longer felt as if it should be there.
And then...that name. That awful name was hers, and she supposed it made sense, because she was awful and deserved only awful things.
She was Mimsy, an extension of the girl who didn't understand love, who liked a science that seemed so irrelevant (why bother with the particles of the universe when the world around her had so much to offer?), who liked sitting quietly in rooms instead of speaking, who stopped running from the thing in the forest that had her heart.
The hallway was large and ornate, and she (was awful and she) stared at each pillar, carefully taking in the appearance of each one before her eyes settled on the throne.
"No," she said, voice bitter, before his question even registered. He'd known, somehow, and showed her a box. Her memories. His memories. Memories of allies and enemies, and seven important ones aside.
She tried very hard to not seem offended. It made sense that she would not be important in the end.
Facing the truth presented itself as a very daunting task.
"I want to destroy the truth," she mumbled, feeling as tired as he looked. But he had only one task for her, and it was not meant to be her own; it was meant for something greater, something more important than the confusion and intellect and science that clung to her heart.
She scrunched up her nose as the warmth washed over her, but the gift...she'd wanted this, long before kitchen knives and monsters, past visits to the forest, in spite of achievements and numbers on paper that were cold but simple to understand, and it felt like maybe...maybe she almost had it...?
Her fingers twitched and she felt lukewarm at best, a brackish mingling of Simmy and Mimsy and love and logic. Her hair was pretty. Her skin was still pale, still so close to white. It looked especially colorless against the necklace.
A lock over her heart.
Yeah, she thought. Seemed right.

The end had felt so sure but now Tsumi suddenly found herself opening her eyes. No, not Tsumi. Mitsu. That was her actual name, how had she forgotten it? A few more things had fallen into place but she still felt empty like there were large pieces of her life missing. Gaps in the small chunks of memories she could remember.
Sitting up Mitsu looked herself over and found a lock over her heart that hung from a necklace. She tried to touch it but her hand only went right through it. What was it there for?

A voice called to him.
He was nothing but memories until the hand saved him and put him back together. The emotions that cam rushing back to him as he breathed in was great but the voice spoke again and soothed them. He looked around at the hall way in interest then back to the person over the throne. The Great King? Makes sense. When asked if he remembered why he shook his head and was glad the King understood.
The box the King held drew in his curiosity and he was thankful the King explained what was in it and how to open it. He would be happy to help.
The King kept talking but he was only paying half attention since he finally remembered something important. He wasn't Andie, he was Aiden. He felt so much more complete then he had before and then was color on his body where before he had just been gray. He noticed the lock now around his neck before everything faded away. He looked between the two monuments left and walked over to the pillars.

As the strange memory rippled through him he felt a change washing over his body, cleansing him of all he knew and replacing it with something different, something…familiar.
He was cold again, ice cold. Just like his memory. The grey matter that once consumed him whisked away to reveal a tall solid form of icy blue flesh half torn in the face, chest and limbs and into the vibrant sinewy pink tissues beneath. He was a zombie, a mangled living corpse partially deconstructed at every angle - a mishmash of fiber, flesh hair and bone. But this was his true identity, or at least the shell of what he once was. Now all that remained was his missing memories and a complete heart. The pendent around his neck held no answers.
…but who am I? By the grace of the King he finally had an answer...
Chains
Armed with this knowledge and a brightly colored form, his reborn identity represented more than just a new body and name but a new mindset. A new sense of hope. And new choices to make.
Staring at the two monuments before him it was the pillars or the throne. Knowing not why he stepped toward the pillars, and his fate was sealed.

"This is not the end."
Naiad feels her memories scatter and fall apart and are consumed until she is nothing. Then a great hand gathers them up, holding them tightly as it pulls her forward and she feels herself saved again.
"You still have a promise to fulfill."
Naiad takes a deep heavy breath and she finds herself once again existing in the world, contained in a body once more. She then winces as everything rushes back into her mind at the same time. All the feelings, all the memories..
"Steady. One step at a time. There is much more to still complete"
The voice calms her and she feels warm once more. She could tell this one demanded more respect and authority than just a king, this one was much greater. Opening her eyes she sees that she is in a large hallway now, a long red and gold carpet gliding along the floor. Around her she sees seven pillars and at one end a large golden throne. She also notices the person seated, no hovering over the throne seemingly half complete.
"I am the Great King."
She can find no doubt inside herself at these words, she knows they are true though she doesn't know why.
"I vowed to help you, and I will continue to do so. Do you remember why? "
She did not though she wished she did. Shaking her head at the figure, it seems to understand.
"I did not expect so,"
She listens as he continues talking. It was then she noticed something in his hand. It was a box and tied around it were thick, heavy, ornate chains. Each one with a lock holding them around the box, each one a different color.
"This contains everything you have been working for. The rest of your memories, as well as mine, as well as the ones from loyal allies of mine, as well as the ones from enemies of mine. Seven important memories lie within this box, a layer in this box, like a Pandora's Box."
She nods at his explination before noticing that one seems already open, the red one, smoking a thick black.
"One has been unlocked, and now two more have become undone."
She watches as he points to the one she had noticed, the one of ruin that she knew, then to the gold and green near it.
"Once all seven, no eight, have become unsealed, then you will regain all your memories and face the truth. You, and only you. Fight until them, and serve your promise. Even if you do not remember it, your Heart does."
The figure looks oddly more tired and faded as it sinks back into it's seat and the castle around her she notices starts looking rusted and worn.
"Return when you have unsealed Pride and Creation and we shall discuss further. For now, I part with you one last gift."
She watches as the figure exhales slowly and she feels only warms from it's breath. Then she remembers something, something she knew she had been yearning for a while now for. Something that up till now she had tried time and time again to remember only to be not able to. She knew because of her remembering now that she was something greater than before and as colors overwhelm her she feels herself slowly gain figure and lose the greyness of before. Then, if the rebirth of her body was not enough, she remembered herself, her true name..
"Diana.. Diana Lee Maximillian.."
She whispered to herself as a small piece of her promise came with it. The promise to fight, the promise to save everything she believed in.. She smiled and stood looking down at herself. She feels warm, oddly tall, and slightly off balance at first due to the wings. Reaching up she felt the horns curving over her pointed ears and she smiled as her demonic tail swished back and forth in happiness. She knows though that something is still missing yet still she feels less grey than before and she figures that it is a start. Then she notices the strange necklace around her neck. Instead of the heart showing for all to see she now only sees this pendant, this lock, and yet she could not remove it. It did not make any sound but she found she could not touch it either and for a moment it disconfitted her.
Then at last everything fades, leaving only two monuments behind, the throne and the pillars. She know that once again she must make a choice and walks up to the throne. She was not backing out of her choice from before after all.

She never wanted these memories. She never wanted any of the events that made her who she was. She liked things when she was an empty, hollow shell. Because that shell was being filled.. filled with good things...
But that shell had already been occupied. And as her memories returned to her, she turned cold, and distant.
Freya returned.
She looked at all of the locks in front of her. All she wanted to do was open the box, but there was so much left before she could. So much work to do. So far yet to go.
And all at once she's seen the pillar, and it's hers to take. So she took it. She made her choice faster than the others. She knew where she belonged.

Her name. She had it again. She also had more memories and... a promise. Still half forgotten, but it was something. More than she had before. She was gaining knowledge. She had made a good choice.
Her color was back. She hadn't known it was missing until now, but it was back. Her heart she could no longer see, but she could feel it and it brought her comfort. The lock on her neck, well, she didn't know a thing about that but she let it be.
When it came time to make another choice, this time... she walked toward gold. She wanted to know even more, find out more, and experience more. Changing her choices would help with that, yes? No to mention her color, it matched. So she chose the throne. And she ended up in a place that was very different from anywhere she had memory of being.

Onana was hovering above herself. She could see what was left of her body crumble into pieces. She felt strangely detached from the whole thing. To be honest, she felt nothing at all. It was like things were coming full circle. She was going to return to the nothingness from once she came.
Then, she felt someone grab her and pull her out.
"You still have a promise to fulfill."
She felt like she had been saved from drowning. She took a deep breath and she kept breathing 'til she choked. She didn't feel nothing anymore. She felt everything now. Despair, pain, confusion, anger -- all of them and many more.
"Steady. One step at a time. There is much more to still complete."
She couldn't put her finger on why, but she felt like she could trust this person, whoever he was.
"I am the Great King."
She did not know what that title entailed, but she thought it suited him.
"I vowed to help you, and I will continue to do so. Do you remember why?
"No."
"Once all seven, no eight, have become unsealed, then you will regain all your memories and face the truth. You, and only you."
"Eight?" She looked back at the box. She then wondered if she was seeing things or perhaps she was missing out on something that would terribly obvious to her once someone pointed it out. "I only count seven. Where's the eighth?"
"Fight until them, and serve your promise. Even if you do not remember it, your Heart does."
"I'd be able to do that better if I remembered what it was. Could you please just tell me what it is?"
Before he could -- though she doubted he would've told her, anyway -- the once lavish castle they were in began to dwindle. The throne he was on because to rust and decay and the columns began to fade away.
"Return when you have unsealed Pride and Creation and we shall discuss further. For now, I part with you one last gift."
He exhaled and she began to feel to warm and wonderful. Just then, she remembered something she had been wanting to know for what felt like forever. "Nanao. My name is Nanao." She was glad. Thrilled, even. But also terribly confused. She wondered what had happened to make her think she was Onana, not Nanao.
She had changed too. She wasn't a shadow anymore. She had form, color, and was wearing a lock necklace.
Another memory arrived soon afterwards.
A strange memory
"It is done," says the voice. "You will fight then. You will fight to save everything you believe in. You must do this to -. Only you can -. All of -"
You -. It feels -. You look at - and -. This -

She thought this was the least helpful memory ever. She then made a mental note that if she was ever in a position of power and if someone were to make a promise to her, then she was going going to write it down and put it someplace normal. Like a table. Or a desk. Or under a rock. Nice normal places like those. So, if anyone ever forgot said promise, then she could whip out the piece of paper and they could all look at it and remember. And not do this. Because this sucked.
Eventually, everything, but the throne and columns faded away. She already knew which she'd choose. She stomped away in the direction of the throne.

Ixb was nothing. Gone. And thenhe was gathered up, pressed together, and he was Bix again. He had only a few ofhis memories but he knew himself enough, just enough, to feel properly identified.
Bix, no longer nameless and shapeless, had a purpose and a task. The Great King had made his mission clear and he would go off to complete it.
Xaejil came back to herself with quiet, cold determination. As her memories, few as they were, seeped back inside she had the obvious choice made already. She was born to lead. She would guide them all. Pride. Right.
All hers.
The snarling battle beast with no memory had broken through to a calculating machine. What was the proper platform for a leader?
A Throne.

He felt himself unravel, fading, becoming nothing.
"This is not the end."
He felt himself being pulled, back from oblivion.
"You still have a promise to complete."
He would have been thankful, grateful even, but the torrent of emotions was unrelenting. He gasped as everything rushed in at once, conflicting feelings, clashing thoughts. It tug and tore at him, made him want to scream
"Steady. One step at a time. There is much more to still complete"
And then there was calm, and he breathed, chest still heaving. But he feels more at ease, comfortable. The voice calms him, soothes him, and he feels as if he can trust it.
"I am the Great King."
He believed this, though he knew not why.
"I vowed to help you, and I will continue to do so. Do you remember why?
He didn't.
When they explained, he eyed the box in their hand curiously, noting the different coloured chains, the locks. So this contained the rest of his memories? Was that why he could only remember bits and pieces? He remembered the red, nodding gravely at it.
"Once all seven, no eight, have become unsealed, then you will regain all your memories and face the truth. You, and only you. Fight until them, and serve your promise. Even if you do not remember it, your Heart does."
Kaje nodded, understanding. He would serve his purpose, his promise. He hadn't forgotten that. He gave a look of concern as the figure sank into their seat, looking more weary than usual, but nodded at their request. His eyes widened slightly when they exhaled, memories, strange ones, familiar ones. Colour returned, and he remembered, remembered his true name.
I am...
...my name is
I am Jake.
he looked down at his hands, a warm brown tone, and his coat... white with gold trim. This felt... right. This was what he was, what he once was. Though something was different. He lifted a hand, feeling something around his neck. He looked down to see that a lock was around his neck, resting on his chest, but when he reached for it, he found his fingers repelled. He could neither touch it nor remove it.
And then, all that remained was a choice. He closed his eyes, not needing to think, as he headed for the throne.
