"I think... That I'm going to get my backside handed to me if I don't figure out how to use this thing right." She growled softly and mostly to herself as she shifted her grip again. She was starting to get pretty kicked around by a stupid... Hello. Hello. Hello. "Gold." She stated simply, as an afterthought to the rest of the group, or anyone who might be listening, really. "Not bad yourself!" Trebor saluted with his sword when the one with the funny name complimented him. He swung out at the kitty again, striking it right in the mouth in mid 'hello'. "I think I picked gold. Good ol' money maker, am I right?" He laughed, his entire body shaking with the effort. He had to laugh, because the absurdity of it all felt so stifling otherwise. His full body laughter was the only thing breaking him out of the slowly edging despair that creeped up on him whenever he made the mistake of asking why. Why were they doing this. Why were they here. Why, why, why.He didn't think he was used to being so goddamn inquisitive. Simmy was being adorable again. It was a welcome distraction. He laughed and reached over, putting his arm around her shoulder. "Honey, if anyone's got a chance to be a goddess, it's you." Maybe she was a goddess in disguise, living and working among the lower dredges.. that would explain why he felt that constant urge to be around her. To hug her. To -- He pulled on one of her pigtails and whispered quietly to her. "If you're a goddess already, you gotta tell me. Them's the rules." Or was that being an undercover cop? The Kitty had found its way to her again, but Simmy had more important things to deal with (which gave her a fleeting pause, realizing that there was something more that she needed to survive) -- she struck it just hard enough to make it change direction again. "You'll get the hang of it, I know it! Soon they will cower at the sight of you," she offered to Raedala, her smile sincere and hopeful. She didn't want to think about what would happen if one of her 'friends' didn't survive, so she cleverly decided to just opt out of questioning whether they would or not. It was safest that way. The reality that they would be competing with others that they actually had the chance to know finally set in when Trebor echoed Raedala's choice. Her eyes found one befriended gold candidate, then the other, and slowly wandered back and forth between them. It hurt to think about this. She frowned and looked at her feet. Why was she still thinking too much? But every ounce of uncertainty and sadness momentarily slipped away when she felt an arm around her shoulders, and she knew with an automatic recognition who it was before he said a single word, because he felt different from all the rest: something comfortable without question. Her hands trembled as she closed her eyes, the weapon nearly slipping from her grasp as she listened to his words of reassurance. "I..I... well..." Would he like her more if she said yes? Was she supposed to say yes? Could she lie to him so easily? Her form drooped beneath his arm. She wanted friends and companionship more than anything, so deeply rooted that it felt necessary for survival, but she couldn't determine if anyone actually befriended a goddess. "No. I'm not. But I can be! I can..." She shifted to try and hide her face against him. "Do you still like me?" It was a question intended for all of them, which might have been less than apparent when she failed to do more than mumble into his colorless coat. A rival, huh? Trebor was looking right at the girl who claimed gold for herself as well, and he gave her a wide, toothy grin. There was a little friendly competition sparking in his eyes, but his teeth looked ready to devour. He snapped them playfully. Eat or be eaten. Simmy was mumbling something, but it was hard to hear. He lifted up his sword and swiped the kitty as it came for them both, sensing a moment of weakness. He wasn't going to let it touch her, not now, not ever. His back turned to protect her from any retaliation, and took the force of the hit himself. But then it all came together. He realized what she'd asked, and looked down at her with a high arched brow. Someone was a little insecure. He bent his head down and kissed the top of her forehead. "Sugar, I'll still like you no matter what, or who, you are. I ain't goin' nowhere." It seemed as though his invitation for a competition was taken quite literally as the two of them move in on the kitty within a split second of one another. Safe to say, there was little left of it when they had finished.... And maybe an ounce or two of respect for him in her own steady gaze. She had been frightened by enough lately; too much to let someone scare her any more than the fogs in the Sacred Flights or the harpies in the Aether Cliffs. Had he protected her? Simmy's fingers tightened around her weapon again, its form faintly creaking beneath the pressure. What did it mean to protect someone? Was it the same as helping? Was it different? Was it indicative of something more? She looked up at Trebor, meaning to ask for clarification, hoping that he had some insight that she didn't. But he kissed her forehead and said the words she had been seeking since she knew of her existence, words that gave her a purpose that could make a goddess proud. "Really? You won't leave me?" It was one of the most impressive things he could have done, and she stared with awe and adoration, holding her excitement at bay until she could be sure. "Because... um, well. I don't want to let you go this time." One hand released her spear and she reached to clench his coat, just in case he changed his mind. "I remembered your name, just like you asked." "Same to you." Trebor loved that the girl had taken him up on the competition so literally. He gave her a friendly smile, and waved when she took her loot and headed out. Simmy's voice was shaking, and her hands were claiming. She had remembered his name; the only thing that mattered to him in this world. The only thing that was truly his. "Oh yeah?" He chuckled out, bending down to pick up her spear, while his other arm snuck around to get a good hold on her and pick her up off the ground. He grinned up at her, now that she was a good few inches taller. "What's my name, then? Mmm?" He saluted the last member of their ragtag party with a sword against his head, and then carried Simmy off as if she, too, was a piece of loot to be claimed. It wouldn't be hard to not let go. Simmy laughed and wiggled her toes towards the ground, a hiccup of a pause in the middle when she was startled by the unfamiliar sound. She liked asking questions, was cautious about thinking, and feared answering, but he asked something simple. Something she couldn't forget. " Trebor," she answered, in the melodic, teasing sort of tone that implied someone was being silly, wrapping her arms around him. "Take me somewhere nice! Impress me!" She was sure that the last request shouldn't be difficult in the slightest. Nio Love told you i lost control of my life

Impress her. Good Lord, that was a dangerous request to ask a man so cocky. He carried her off, falling quiet as he tried to think of ways he could impress her that did not involve his weapon.
