Cora Lainey

Cora devoted herself to learning about this world. She may as well, she intends for it to be her new home. She peered closely to the book, absorbing all of the details of the image. As Lucas taught her about the guilds, she murmured their names quietly, willing herself to memorize the names. "Arcaz Sovereignty, Castayu Del'yir, Conclave of Declasia, Asmodius Corps and... Injustira Syndicate."

For a strange reason, it did not take much for Cora to engrain it in her memory. It seemed almost familiar to her. She dismissed the feeling quickly, attributing it to her ability to learn quickly.

After he had explained, she didn't really seem to say much else, all except repeating what he had said in order to remember it. He understood it was a lot, but she seemed to be catching on quite well. Replacing the book her got back to Cora and said "So," using his index finger to press some invisible buttons on the giant green orb. He wasn't look at her but listened to her, and said "do you still require travel arrangements? I'll be more than happy, besides. My zeppelin is private, hasn't got daily citizens flying on it". He then added "ah" as he finally found the location of the book he required, it was several floors down unfortunately.

Cora looked over Lucas' shoulder at the green orb. She had no clue how to make sense out of it, but he seemed content with whatever results he had achieved. 'All in due time,' Cora thought patiently to herself, 'this will be natural one day.'

She smiled sincerely at his offer of travel, even though he couldn't see her do so. "Although I have no clue where to go or what to do with myself now that I'm here, I believe the best thing to do is just go and find a new life. I'd be extremely grateful of your assistance to get... well, anywhere." After pausing for a moment, she added, "Maybe when I become more familiar, I can be as helpful to you as you are to me."

((Curious, are the words of the books written in any Non-Magic language? Or is it something native to Magic Earth?))

((that's a very good point... I'm going to say that many books will be in English, or very close to it, a common tongue for most of Occulas. Specfically since most of the Eternal would have been british in prehistory. So yeah, they'll be readable for Cora, some might be harder than others due to old-english or simply other alnguages from around the world smile ))

Content with where he had to go, the green golden orb went into a dormant state, showing no signs of being used once more, simply floating in the air above its pedestal. "Well then" he said, turning around and looking round a corner. "we can leave as soon as i find this book..." he was staring down the hall of shelves and ladders until his eyes adjusted to the darness and saw the stairway. "You may follow me if you like" he said with a smile.

Walking down the massive room he passed many shelves of books and scrolls, some from around the world, others from the ancient scribes of Occulas, some immediately after it was created by the Eternal. This was the most important library in Magic Earth, and yet no one worked here, it was almost like a building lost in time. Many people would often wonder what stopped thieves from stealing, but some rumours tell tales of ancient curses.

Nearing the archway it was pitch black until he pulled out that small glowing orb that floated effortlessly above his shoulder. He then persisted down a stone spiral staircase, passing several doorways leading to toehr corridors and other floors. It was old and dusty, unused for years. But soon enough he found the room he was looking for. It was a small room, almost fashioned like a chapal, the odd angel statue here or there. "well" he said, looking around in the darkness, his magic hardly lit the room very much. Looking at Cora who he hoped had followed, he said "Seems no one has been in this room for quite some time". It was true, cobwebs hung from the corners, no carpets lie on the floor, a few stone shelves gave home to soem books, but mainly alcoves in the walls gave home to individual, expensive looking books that were heavily decorated.

Cora Lainey

Cora swiftly stepped out of Lucas' way as he hunted his required book. Her attention began to skew off and stick to the books again. Cora followed Lucas distractedly, inspecting a few books along the way. One exceptional book was a ledger of the flora and fauna to be found in Magic Earth. Cora sifted through the almanac, unknowingly lulling behind. Cora looked up from her book to find Lucas quite a distance away, but still visible. She quickly returned the book to its proper place on the shelf, and sprinted up to Lucas, just as he lit a blackened hall.

Cora considered how he may have been able to manipulate the light so much. She recalled he demonstrated the history of Magic Earth with it as well. Could he simply be a magician, or is he not exactly human, as he suggests that she is? For now, Cora kept her thoughts to herself. She was more comfortable that way.

As Lucas stopped in the smaller room, Cora squeezed past him. She stepped close to a statue of an angel and softly dusted it with her fingertips. Cora continued on to a bookshelf and squinted closely to see the individual books in the dim light. "What book are you looking for, if you don't mind me asking?"

Cora seemed to enjoy the books, he recalls her taking a gander at several on the way down. In here though there were a few less books to choose from. His voice echoed in the room as he replied "I'm looking for an old scholar's book, he wrote a lot about Angels" he said, moving over to the same alcove she was at. Surprisingly, she was at the right one too, it held the symbol of the Order of Injustira, what the Syndicate was before it became an official guild. "Ah, here it is" he then said. "which brings me to a fair point" he plucked the dusty book from its resting place and put under his arm as he said "Many people here are unsure whether to believe angels exist, but i can tell you they are. Which takes me to another point. Alongside the races of the Eternal, there are others that did not originate from them. " he placed the book down on a small table beside him as continued to speak. "There are the Elves, not related to the High Elves. They predate everyone else in Magic Earth, as they originated from your world and were even around before the Eternal. They lived in forests and were forever youthful. And there's also the Scarred" he voice darkened almost at that name. "They are native to the continent of Bloodholme, but we never have any trouble from them, they're part demon, part human or any other race, they're impure. And lastly, there are the Divine - like me. Many years ago it's said angels descended from the Heavens and drank from the fountain of immortality, but the effects were the opposite of what they expected, they lost their wings and their already owned immortality, becoming just like any other race of Magic Earth"

One of Cora's eyebrows lifted in surprise. "I was right about you, Mr. Purevelion," Cora smirked lightheartedly. "You're much more than meets the eye. An angel suits you, though." Cora picked up the book that Lucas had set down. She outstretched her arms, offering the book back to him. "You're too kind and helpful to be an ordinary man."

Cora contemplated the infliction of Lucas' tone when he spoke of the Scarred. "Impure," he called them. What if Cora was a hybrid? Did Lucas say that her family could be all Fae because he believed it true, or did he just hope she wasn't sullied? Perhaps she was reading entirely too much out of ideas that were not meant to correlate. Cora willed the assumptions from her mind and reminded herself that she was not completely convinced she was even Fae to begin with.

She spoke about being right, what were her thoughts? He smiled at the comment of being an Angel, he would sacrifice too much to be able to see the Heavens, a beautiful metropolis int he sky he had thought. Then she commented about him being too kind for an ordinary man. "It's my job" he said with another smile, carefully taking the book from her palms. "Well, that, and keeping the Scarred out of the Isle of Elixer, where the fountain of immortality is. Several months ago they almost got away with it. It's what being half demon does to you i guess. They're all half demon - half demon and another race, usually human. " he then paused as he looked around and remembered what he was doing. "Anyway, shall we make our way to the Lightcleaver?" he asked, calling the Zeppelin by it's name.

"The Lightcleaver?" Cora furrowed her eyebrows and stared at Lucas, puzzled. Cora suddenly recalled their arrangements and deduced that he was either addressing a destination city or the zeppelin. Cora's face lit up as she exclaimed, "Oh, yes! Of course! To... the Lightcleaver." Cora felt a little at ease knowing how wrong she was about the Scarred. It would be one less thing weighing her thoughts or hindering her faith in Lucas.

Cora's stomach flitted with nervousness as their time in the zeppelin approached. She never had an issue flying as a child, but over the years she grew more uncomfortable. She was most content when she could feel the earth under her feet. One of the foster mothers who had adopted her for a brief time always yelled at Cora for running around outside without her shoes on. Cora smiled a little to herself at the memory of the barefooted sensation, but her nerves persisted.

Cora recognized her hands reverting to an old nervous habit. She combed her fingers through her hair and braided it quickly. Cora unraveled the braid, and patterned her hair once more. Her hair was long enough that it draped easily over her shoulder, so the habit wasn't obvious or distractive. She resigned to the nervous quirk and knew that her hair would be braided one thousand times over in the zeppelin.

Cora prayed Lucas wouldn't notice her braiding habit as it was something she was a bit embarrassed of. As a mature twenty-year-old woman, she shouldn't have been so nervous about a small flight. However, underneath all that discomfort, Cora knew she was excited. She'd get a grander view of this new world and all it had to offer. The zeppelin being privately owned was an extra treat.

((Curious about a few things: how detailed does everyone go? Do you mark days, have day/night cycles, need to buy rooms at an inn, partake in meals, etc.? Also, should Cora be concerned about not fitting in with her clothes? Or, again, is it not that detailed?))

((it's entirely up to the person on how far you go with the detail, i'll usually comment on the time of the day if im first to post in an area/no one else is active there. Day'night cycles sometimes, sometimes i just time-skip to more interesting parts to save the nitty gritty stuff. E.g, for buying rooms could be that you walk in and say you'e already been through the business of buying a room, or you could do a little RP amongst yourself and the owner, i dont mind you writing what he/she says most of the time in those circumstances. And, glad you said about clothes, Lucas wears different clothes because he's distinctively a part of Injustira Syndicate, most people in Magic earth wear clothes just like Non-Magic Earth, since many people live ordinary lives with only a little bit of magic. But there are some peolpe that wear much different clothing, really depends on background really smile ))

She seemed excited to see the Lightcleaver, Lucas felt a warm emotion cradling his smile as he began to turn around, heading back up the staircase. Behind him she followed once again and passing each stone step he saw each shadow move, repeating tiself over and over as his glowing orb passed columns or steps. Back in the main hall he looked over his shoulder, noting how she played with her hair and was amongst her own thoughts. Drawing closer to the final staircase out he could see the bright sunlight outside htr grand glass windows that towered on each side of the giant double doors. Peering over his shoulder once more, Lucas Purevelion said " have you travelled in the skies before?", he wondered after taking the hair-braiding as perhaps a nervous habit. However, he didn't want to embarass or single her out, therefor not pointing it out, just asking a vague question in stead.

When he stopped on the main foyre his glowing orb vanished back beneath his layers of cloth as he awaited Cora's reply. the light shining through was bright and pure, having only the fainted yellow tinge to it.

Cora followed closely behind Lucas as he led the way back up the corridors. Every step of theirs echoed off of the stone floors, creating a percussive rhythm. The incessant sound acted as a metronome for her habit, twisting and pulling the threads of hair with the beat. Cora looked at her feet as she walked, her thoughts lost in the music of their movement.

When Lucas spoke to her, she jumped slightly from surprise and snapped out of her reverie. "Oh, uh..." Cora fumbled over her words quietly. "I did fly a few times, when I was younger. My orphanage had a website that posted pictures of some of the kids available to adopt. Some families would fly in from other states after seeing us." Cora hesitated to continue. She knew this wasn't a pleasant topic and she didn't want to burden Lucas any more than she already was. Cora tried to hide the sound of guilt from her voice, "I was flown out and back by three families." She cleared her throat quietly and spoke with more confidence now that the awkward bit was over. "So, yes. I've flown exactly six times before. Yet after all of those years and all of those trips, the airline food never got any better," Cora stood next to Lucas in the foyer and smiled at her joke. She untangled her braid once more, letting her hair drape out across her shoulders and forced her hands into her pants pockets.

As Cora caught up, she explained he previous experience, shedding light on her orphan background and catching Lucas' curiosity. He began to figure it was why she was a confident and well mannered young woman, she had beenw ith several families and so learned to accept what she was given and be happy for what she had, she was confident and knew how to take care of herself.

He chuckled almost at her when she mentioned the food. "Yes" he said, "When i lived in Alaska, i remember the bad food flying between there and California" he exhaled softly almost as if to laugh. He then began to walk away thinking about how his life has changed, spending the majority of it now in Magic Earth and rising the ranks of the syndicate.

The great double doors closed behind them and Lucas welcomed the cool embrace of the breeze under the warm caress of the sunlight. Gazing over between the two gatherings of trees he could see a small glistening lake, within it was a great silver blade slicing through the water. It was the Lightcleaver, the zeppelin of Lucas Purevelion resting silently like a boat in the water. It was made of steel and silver, a metallic and majestic ship with a giant white and silver woven balloon hovering above it. At the front of the Lightcleaver was a giant blade-like front pointing forwards and sinking down the front edge of the ship and beneath the water.

He looked back at Cora, she might have missed it on the way in, she may have come from the other side of the building, especially if she was coming from the Crossing, as most people did since the beginning of Magic Earth. But this was his ship, the mighty Lightcleaver which has taken him on many a journey, even once with Team Elixer... A time that even he did not remember with the happiest of memories of late. Nonetheless, he was happy he could enjoy such moments in the past.

Cora Lainey

Cora was pleased that her joke touched Lucas' humor. She was curious about him as he appeared to hide behind a mask of duty and chivalry. Even when she complimented his kindness earlier, he dismissed it as his job. Cora knew all too well that any job can be completed without such benevolence and patience.

She was shocked to learn that he had been to Non-Magic Earth, and in the United States no less. Cora fought to keep her face stoic and hide the surprise from her face. Her interest in him grew as he appeared to be so much more than just a kind man in a grand library. He was more than worldly; he was wise and knowledgeable beyond what she could have even imagined possible. Cora considered that she may be able to coax some stories out of him during their time on the zeppelin. She put strong hope in that, wishing to know more about Lucas.

As Lucas opened the great doors, the wind whipped by and hugged them gently. Cora involuntarily closed her eyes and smiled at the sensation of the cool breeze. There were few things she loved more than the feeling of the wind. Cora looked up at Lucas to find his gaze somewhere ahead. Cora traced the direction he looked and raised herself to stand on her toes to try to match his eye level. Though she was still a bit shorter than him on toe-point, her mouth went slightly agape at the view.

Framed by tall and idyllic trees, a beautiful lake cradled the zeppelin. It was like a gentle giant, sleeping on the slow ripples of the lake. Cora had never seen a zeppelin before, and it was much more awe-inspiring than she thought it would be. She suddenly felt Lucas' eyes on her and closed her gaped jaw quickly. "So this is the Lightcleaver," Cora grinned, her excitement gradually conquering her reservations about flying.

((So now post to the Lightcleaver right? Which is a part of the Skyfall thread))

I've seen the world, Done it all,
Had my cake now, Diamonds, brilliant
And Bel Air now
Hot summer nights, mid July
When you and I were forever wild
The crazy days, city lights
The way you'd play with me like a child

After short Zeppelin ride with the cash that Horad had given them, they flew over some of the Shard, passed some woods and lakes until they came to the Kuj'anast stop, they were the only two, of only a few people on board, to get off here. The ride was comfortable and no one paid them any ill-word. But Karuso was almost happy to be feeling the ground beneath his feet again... it almost reminded him of the time he and Zien walked in the air to Satoko and NAminé's house.

"Well, it's certainly grand" Karuso said, looking up high, past the two towers on each side of the giagantic double doors. They were open, and look in he saw a foyer but whilst most foyer's had stairs going up, this was the opposite. Instead the staircase went down, and to the right where the library was located. The entire building was an illusion, almost. Whilst on the outside it looked like it towered up several stories, no being able to see some of the interior whilst standing int he sun Karuso could see that inf act much of it must have run underground.

"Plenty of books to divulge" Karuso admitted, crossing his arms and admiring the view. "Ready?" Karuso asked, giving Zien a have serious expression.

Will you still love me
When I'm no longer young and beautiful?
Will you still love me
When I got nothing but my aching soul?
I know you will, I know you will
I know that you will
Will you still love me when I'm no longer beautiful?

Remembering when he was motion sick on the high seas, the motion sickness he had on the Zeppelin wasn't nearly as bad. However, by no means pleasant either. It was only if there was a particular jarring sweep of wind or change in altitude did the young elemental throw the contense of his stomach over the side.

Otherwise Zien spent it groaning and holding his lurching stomach while laying on a bench somewhere. So when their stop finally came he was so very happy to be getting off.

"Ugh...that was horrid, you are never going to convince me to get one one of those again...na ahh..." complained and whined Zien as they trudged along.

Finally reaching the library it was far more impressive then he was expecting. "That's the library? Looks like a small castle or something...bloody hell," but Zien got the same impression as Karu that the majority of the library was underground. Some natural sunlight would have made a nice nap but apparently he wasn't going to get that.

"As ready as I'm gonna be anyway," he sighed out and followed after Karu.
