"Papa makes great Tamales, bit I like mine hot with peppers." Daniel nodded as it everyone did. "English is my second language. Spanish is my first." Daniel nodded again. Yes, he knew what he was talking about. Clearly.

Bailey paled a little. "You and Reed would get along. He likes spicy food a lot. I..." She ducked her head. "I'm a wuss." Spicy things were tasty but HURT if she wasn't careful. "Need lots of milk or rice or naan for spicy stuff." More digging her shoe into the grass. "English is my first language. I don't know another one yet, but...I kinda wanna learn French or Spanish."

"What is Naan?" He tilted his head. At her interest in learning Spanish, his eyes lit up like lights, the boy beaming. "Ah? Soy habl--I mean, I speak Spanish! My whole family does!"

"Naan is a type of bread from India. It's really tasty! Daddy makes it whenever he makes curry, because it goes so well with it. And sometimes he makes it for a snack, too." Maybe she could convince him to make some once everything was all moved in. Bailey perked up a bit. "That's cool! It must be nifty to be able to speak more than one language!"

"Ooooh, okay." Daniel nodded. "Two languages is useful, but it isn't easy. It's very hard sometimes. Especially when some Spanish words are also English words, or when a word that means something in Spanish means something else in English, like pan."

Bailey blinked, looking a little surprised, but nodded. "Oh. That...makes sense." Blargh. That really could not be fun. "So...what's 'pan' mean in Spanish? I know what it is in English, especially since Daddy uses them a lot." She giggled, a bit amused with herself. After all, her Daddy was a chef. When he had work.

"Pan is bread. Papa has to think about his words a lot in the kitchen at work, because he speaks Spanish in the kitchen. Papa owns a Bistro, my oldest brother works there. I'm allowed to help sometimes." But not work. He was six years too young. Soon to be five years too young though!

Bailey stared a moment. "Oh. I...can see how that'd get confusing." Wait. A bistro? Oh! She could be helpful to her Daddy! "I hope this doesn't sound rude, but...is your Papa hiring? We just moved here, and though Mommy had a job, Daddy had to quit his old one. He was a sous chef at a restaurant back in Tacoma!" She hoped asking didn't lose her a possible friend though...

"Papa says he can't find enough good chefs who can make basic Mexican food, who are also willing to learn more." Daniel nodded. "So if your Daddy can make Mexican food maybe, but he needs to talk to Papa. And hopefully he can speak Spanish."

The excitement showed on Bailey's face. YAY! She'd done good! Though...
And then the excitement melted into confusion. "You know...I don't know if Daddy knows Spanish. I'll have to ask him tonight." Huh..."Oh, oh! Which house is yours? So we can play later?" And her Mommy would want to know, too. Her Mommy liked meeting the parents of the kids she made friends with.

"That's okay. Daddy will probably talk anyway. He speaks english." Daniel nodded sagely. He felt proud now. He was helping Papa! "My house is around the corner. It's teal, just like some buildings at home, like some places in Mexico!" While not every building was colourful, many were. Daniel prided his home on being bright too.

"I'll let Daddy know, than! What's the bistro called?" That way she could tell her Daddy, and he wouldn't look unprofessional by showing up at Daniel's house asking about things. "Teal. Okay! That's awesome! Our house is just...brown and red." Eeeeeeeeee~. His house was one of her favorite colors!

"...I forgotted." Daniel frowned. "It's downtown though!" And he proceeded to pluck up some construction paper, writing it down. "But your house is nice!" Daniel objected.

Okay. An address was a good thing! Yes! Bailey took it and tucked it into a pocket. "Thanks! And...I guess it is. The colors go together well!" And her Mommy and Daddy liked it a lot.
"Bailey! Lunch!" The girl looked to the front door, where her Mommy was looking out.
"Oh! Coming Mommy!" She looked back to Daniel, smiling sheepishly. "I gotta go for now. I can ask Mommy if I can play after lunch, though!"

"Okay." Daniel nodded. "I'll bring some toys we can play with out if your Mommy lets you play there!" He grinned. "I should see if Mama or Papa made lunch." He turned, happily skittering for home. Today was a very, very good day!
