I'saak
3 5 (READING CONFUSES ME) marks

Gathers were happy occasions, but mourning required somber colors. I'saak hadn't entirely known what to wear.

He had ultimately chosen a vest and trousers in charcoal grey, over a linen shirt dyed a cheerful teal that all but matched the stripe down Ellibreth's muzzle - the same color he wore in his knots. Ellibreth was too big to follow him, but he could feel her in his mind as he wove through the crowd, desperately seeking out faces he recognized.

He spotted familiar faces in the crowd and hurried to them - one tall, one short, both massive in width and stature. I'saak was building muscle well as he worked with Ellibreth, but though he had filled out impressively since his Impression, he had yet to achieve the sheer muscle mass that either K'yne or C'ross had. He doubted he'd ever be that broad.

Though he stayed quiet for Kleos's and Idris's speeches, I'saak was only half paying attention. He had seen the knots of a Master Smith on the way over, and he was incredibly interested in the wares the man had to offer. As he drew alongside C'ross and K'yne, touching the former gently on the shoulder, he couldn't help but cast another glance at the work. He'd have to go over and talk shop later, even if the marks he had in his pocket weren't anywhere near what he'd have had were he still plying his trade.

-----

Xanha
5 marks

It felt strange, to be surrounded by dragonriders. Xanha wasn't used to this sort of bustle since the mission and her rescue; she had been seeking extreme solitude with her dolphin, allowing equal parts Ajax's closeness and saltwater to help cleanse her wounds. She was healing as well as could be expected, youth and the ability to take it easy giving her a chance to rest. Still, she had been heavily lacerated and kept in poor conditions, and under orange cloth she wore draped and tied like a dress, there were still bandages over stitched wounds. They were healing - not infected anymore, and closing nicely - but it was easier to keep them bandaged whenever she was clothed. Less chance of irritation that way.

There were likewise bandages on her right arm, and she kept it clasped close to her chest as she stood in the crowd and listened. The surge of noise and interest thrummed around her like an ocean, and she found herself reading the currents of the people around her, rather than paying any real attention to the words. Weyr politics didn't matter to her - someone had been lost in Threadfall, she gathered, and he was being replaced. She spared a brief nod for the fact that a woman had taken the place of the man, but that was all the interest she had. Her gaze remained fixed resolutely on Kleos. It was the first time she had seen the woman since her rescue. She looked worse-for-wear, about as fragile as Xanha still felt.

And then the tide began to ebb. The dolphineer approached the stage slowly, circling around and moving quietly through a small group to draw up alongside it, lifting her uninjured arm in greeting to Kleos. "Wingleader," she said softly. "You look...well enough."

-----

V'lay
5 marks

It felt...sour, going to a Gather like this. A Gather held in honor of the death of a rider - and a Wingsecond at that - seemed...inappropriate. The bluerider hung solemnly back in the crowd, bland brown clothes swapped out for bland dark-grey clothes that might at some point have been black - a cursory respect to a man he hadn't known at all, though it was far from his Gather best. V'lay had fled Benden only with what he could carry, and proper Gather garb hadn't been on his list. And in the turn and a half he had been at Trine, it hadn't even occurred to him to acquire it. Why would he? He had no interest in celebrations.

Still, an occasion to pay respects was something different. And the announcement of a new Wingsecond would be important. He stood calmly, eyes fixed on Kleos as she began to speak. Of course, there she was, getting all choked up and emotional over an inevitable part of Threadfall. Did the harpy think people would like her better if she cried over something that she should, as a Wingleader, be able to accept with the gravity of her position? Well, it wasn't going to work. And as for her choice of wingsecond...

...A woman on a freak dragon.

Well, it suits the wing, Vinath remarked quietly in the back of his head. V'lay didn't answer, lips pursed as he listened to Idris speak.

My guess is that wing's going to be seeing a lot more casualties from now on, he answered his blue. Vinath said nothing, but V'lay could feel his tacit agreement. Ah well. Such was life, he supposed. It wasn't his business what a bunch of girls got up to, so long as he wasn't stuck flying under them. And that certainly wasn't going to happen any time soon.

Oh well. At least have fun, if you can, Vinath murmured. V'lay shrugged.

I'll see what I can do.

attempting to haggle

Kindra resisted the temptation to kiss her teeth in a slightly disapproving manner .. but at the price, not the quality of the blade, she only had 10 marks on her, if she got this, she'd not be able to buy anything else if she saw something nice .... but.. it was for N'mol.

She smiled at the Master Smith "oh the quality shows Mastersmith, but i think i will test it's balance if you don't mind a few finger marks on such a lovely thing" she flattered a little, reaching for the blade and testing it's sharpness, a little naively thinking it wouldn't be THAT sharp surely but she gave herself the smallest of cuts on her thumb ... tch, she hissed slightly but she should have known not to do that, and used something else however she didn't want to damage the blade before she'd even possibly bought it. She did test the weight and the balance and knew it was slightly heavy for her but she could practice with it had it been for herself.

"Such obvious love going into the blade, please, what's the VERY best price you could go on it, it's for my Weyrmate, Wingleader N'mol? I'm sure you know of him, since you are so obviously well informed" she said it sweetly and pleasantly enough, replacing the dagger with an almost affectionate stroke along the wings of the dragon.

attempting to haggle.... sorta XD

Becka was slightly embarassed when the teen went bright red, she didn't have boys turning bright red when talking to her happen a lot .... well NEVER... Becka was slightly flustered and unsure of what exactly to say but thankfully the teen started to speak about the dress "i'm really sorry for startling you" she said after a couple of heartbeats, then looked at her small purse... "oh..." she said a little sadly when he mentioned it was two marks, "that's quite a lot... i only have three marks" she was talking to herself but this time didn't realise she'd spoken out loud. Her face showing obvious doubt and probably an intent to move on. She really didn't want to spend almost ALL her marks on one pretty dress when she had more useful things she could buy later perhaps on other stalls.

grumped Phasianth, wishing Becka would spoil herself just once, as she had often spoiled him in the past but knowing better by now than to try and talk her into buying the dress, her mind almost assuredly set on walking away unless the stall holder said something to encourage her to stay and buy it.

The smith smiled a little even as he sighed and shook his head. "Ten marks was my best, m'lady," he replied. "I've marked down to near cost t'day, to honour the wingsecond you see... but... been as who you are, and who your good weyrmate is I'll offer an extra quarter mark off for you. As well as that I give this blade a life time guarantee. Any problem, bring it back to me and so long as I drawn breath I'll fix it up as good as new - better even! I'm still learning an improving as time goes by m'lady Kindra."

Kindra wrinkled her nose just a little, perhaps imperceivable to the smith, "Ah, thank you it's quite clearly worth more than the price you have on it but i just don't think i can spare that amount of marks, i AM however also interested in that lovely brooch" she said, hopefully distracting him from any disappointment in her not taking the knife, and while she'd told most of the truth, fact was as much as she loved N'mol, she wasn't willing to part with all her marks on one thing, she could find other things to give him and if she was truly honest with herself it really wouldn't have suited him and that brooch was simply too gorgeous for her to pass up, she might even give to to Narisa as a gift, a thank you for all her fellow goldrider... NO... her FRIEND had done for her since she came to Trine, with nothing save the leathers on her back and the harness on her Gold dragon.

Bereck

Marrow liked people Bereck liked, and he had been following one of them.

"Mmmh?" Bereck closed his eyes, watched, and listened as the silver found a hidden perch in the weaver's stall. Two marks was indeed a fair amount of money but it was a lovely dress.

Bereck opened his eyes again and looked up at Alina. "Would you look askance at me if I bought a dress for a young lady?... My apprentice, Becka. She was looking at a dress on a weaver's stall but it looks like she can't afford it." It would be highly unprofessional for a Master to buy an expensive gift like that for his young apprentice, but despite his knots he wasn't here today as a Master.

Ingar did look disappointed but he nodded understanding, it was a pricey piece even knocked down as much as it was. You didn't sell one of those every day. "Oh, the brooch?" the man's smile returned quickly and he gave a quick nod. "For that m'lady the ask is five marks, finest metal and jewels went into that! I finished it just last week."

[Note: Ingar will no longer become insulted by Kindra on a roll of 1]

V'ail

Lan was a gorgeous brilliant lady. V'ail would admit the crimson was tiny, she should be near the size of her brown clutchmates but Lan was between the size of her green and blue siblings instead. Which sort of helped, considering the amount of cleaning and oiling that was needed to keep her hide crack free. 'Nash helped and he was thankful for that. And smacked him over the head for being a sharding dead glow and getting hurt.

He sighed, looking over at Kleos as she spoke and idly brushed his earring in thought, nearly tangling his pinky in the black ribbon braided in his hair. He had ended up helping his sibling tend the wounded. 'Nash didn't want him running about like a reckless idiot and he allowed it. This once.. for Lan. He did enough stupid things.

A soft dainty voice curled in his mind, reassuring and teasing. Lanterneth mused.

'We'll see.'
V'ail mused, wishing he kept his twin in sight and lazily waved to his class mates after the speech was over. He could see C'ross and K'yne and it looked like Becka has just left.

Idris – 7 3/4 Marks

Faranth, she needed a glass of wine, and she needed it as soon as humanly possible.

Idris was acutely aware of the eyes on her as she moved with her usual stately care through the crowd. Her face was fixed into a neutral mask, as always: a grim reminder that even amidst the celebration, she’d earned her place with another dragon’s ichor.

You wear that somber look like armor, Singhath chided. I’m not saying you have to smile – your face might crack – but how about wearing an expression that indicates you won’t eat the first person to talk to you?

Hush, love.

The silver yawned enormously and sent a mental impression of fondness through the bond between them. I expect you to bring me back something handsome to go with those handsome new knots. Now go have a good time, if you remember what one looks like.

Still, by the time that Idris reached the vintner’s stall, the look on her face had softened to something approaching a shy smile. The tall silverrider placed a quarter-mark coin on the counter and slid it towards the pair. “A glass of white, please.” She didn’t intend to drink more than that, but one glass would be enough to take the sharp edges off her nerves, and it would give her something to sip at if she needed a moment before speaking to someone.

trying to haggle again XD

Kindra could flatter, "And you still have the brooch on your stall at THAT price? ... shocking Mastersmith, absolutely shocking" She commented, trying to resist the urge to pick it up and run a finger over it's design but failing and lifting it delicately with ne hand, using the finger of another to trace the fine curves and tilting it so the 'eye' caught the sun "Just lovely" she smiled, "5 marks? Hmmm" she put the brooch back in it's place as if declining buying it "would you so kindly please let me have it for less, it too would be a gift, for Jr Weyrwoman Narisa" she said with her most charming smile.

Vinters

The siblings turned in sync to Idris and smiled brightly enough to make up for any lack on her part.

"Welcome Wingsecond and

"Our congratulations!" Kay opened up a fresh bottle of wine, which sat chilling in ice, and poured it into a fine crystal glass. When the liquid neared the top of the glass - a standard measure - she smiled and continued right to the brim. It was a little gesture but it meant something, or she hoped it did.

"Here you are m'am, or sir? What do you prefer?" Kallnar set down dishes of plump green and black fruits next to the rider, a dish of mixed nuts too. Now you let us know if you want anymore,

"We're always pleased to serve a rider, and especially a new wingsecond!"

Ingar

Ingar smiled and gave another little bow to Kindra. "Thank you m'lady for your kind words but I can offer no better. My heart beats in that little gold... and much as I'd love her to go as a loving gift I really can't offer you a lower price. I am sorry m'lady but it is what it is."

odd numbers - misses - 2
Even numbers - sucess - points: 6 (spending)

Becka moved away from the Weaver's stall and was moving towards one that sold healer supplies but she was waylaid by Phasianth again, spotting something that he thought would be fun for her. She had to admit, the game he pushed her at DID look kind of fun actually, especially the tall man calling people in. A ring toss game? ... She listed as she heard him say that a firelizard egg was a prize? .. oooh it looked like a big one, maybe she could give it to Bereck, Phasianth nudged her lovingly, he really did enjoy having the little flits around, they loved to listen to him screechbugle and show off so OF COURSE he loved them.

"Please.. may i try a few times?" she asked the man that seemed to own the stall, well hopefully he did since he'd been shouting the information to encourage people in. He gave her the rings with a smile as she handed over the quarter mark and Becka concentrated as she tossed the rings at the targets. Oh.. well that didn't seem very good, she missed two of the targets but she did get one, it earned her a fair amount of points too and she spotted something she thought might be perfect for Bereck "Please can i spend my points now? I'd really like that journal, Oh ..." she spotted something else, a small wooden box, maybe he'd like that instead, Oh this was hard "Yes the journal please, if i can" She thought he might get better use out of a journal than a small wooden box. "the one with the black cover" she added, noticing there were two different colors.

Becka - Sr Weyrling = 3 marks (- 1/4 mark)
2 + 3/4 marks left.

F'nell- Near the Ring Toss

F'nell hadn't known the wingsecond who had died, but it was always upsetting when one of the more important people in the wings were lost. He wasn't sure about having a gather, they had always seemed as if they should follow happy occassions rather than sad ones, but he could see the need for a distraction.

And they really could use some positiveness after everything that had happened.

He was wearing dark brown, a concession to the occassion but also one of his nicer outfits, and he waited around the stage for Kleos to speak. It was her wing that would be most effected by the man's loss, as they had known him well, but there would also be some eagerness to see just who she would appoint as wingsecond.

Her speech was nice, and the woman who was the new wingsecond spoke well also, and he wished her the best in her new position. He would raise a glass for the lost wingsecond later, with wine, but for now, there were things to see. It would not make the loss any less, but it was time to move forward.

He made his way through the stalls, and over towards the games, pondering which one to try first. He watched a girl, Becka, play the ring toss game, thinking that perhaps he should do that one. It didn't look too hard.

"Good job," the rider said, once she had finished. It didn't seem proper to have watched and not offered some sort of comment.
