"Public relations sounds... better," he said tentatively, finishing his smoke and flicking the butt to the sidewalk far below, watching its descent with satisfaction. He hauled the window down with his skinny baby-fat arms straining. Not a fighter, indeed.

"I think," he said, in a moment of honesty, "that maybe he wanted you to do that but also to... make me feel... not weird. I feel weird. You know? Like I got drafted into an army I didn't know was there? I went to a military school and it sucked a**. So I guess he wants me to meet people who I like. I like you," he added sincerely, maybe because she was feeding him; maybe because he liked everyone. "So then he shows me that everyone on his side is cool and funny and has great taste in shoes and is devastatingly attractive, and I fall into step. Devious." He flopped onto the futon, making himself completely at home. "Didn't you feel weird? At first."

"Ya, I can see you PR. You can pull off that innocent bystander look." She titled her head as she powered at him.

The sight smile she'd been wearing slipped as it was revealed what Ever had had in mind when he'd mentioned her to Fix. The first part wasn't unexpected, at least. The rest had her sitting up again, leaning forward on her seat so she could rest her elbows on her knees. "It's a lot to take in," She offered reasonably. Cracking a smile as he admitted he liked her. "Everyone I've met all far has been pretty cool." Granted, that number was still relatively small..

At his question she couldn't help but frown. "I think it's different for everybody. I'm from the s**t hole side of town, and I think I've been looking for an escape from that my whole life. When Painite offered me power, a chance to change things, I leaped at it." A helpless sort of shrug followed. "It took a little getting used to, but it feels like I was meant for this."

He didn't suppose in the bigger scheme of things many people would have envied him his life: a shitty job, a shitty apartment, friends who manipulated him as much as they cared for him, a thing which he knew, secretly, to be true, although he denied it. But it had been comfortable, and on the heels of his high school career, it had seemed positively blissful. Ever's arrival hadn't been a rescue. It had been a trainwreck.

"I guess," he said skeptically, chewing a thumbnail absently. "It was my birthday," he added in a small voice, but he didn't let himself linger on it: "Anyway. I can be useful. And I'm making friends. And getting free food, soon," he added cheerily, "and a free apartment, and... yeah. I guess I shouldn't b***h too hard. You can teach me how to punch things in a marginally less-pathetic way and I'm sure I'll... fit right in." Even if he didn't feel meant for it, like she had. "I don't have to salute anyone, anyway. Or haven't yet."
PostPosted: Sat Jul 13, 2013 9:39 pm

"Happy belated birthday," She added, grin flaring back to life as he began listing all the positive things that were coming from him having been recruited.

"I can definitely teach you how to fight." Briefly she wondered if she should just break down and hang a flyer in the rift advertising self defense and offensive classes. Fix would be the fourth person she'd be training in some way.

There was a sudden obnoxious buzzing and Porsha jumped, not yet used to the idea of having to buzz people into the building. It resulted in a short laugh before she rolled up to her feet and moved to hit the interview. It was the pizza guy, so she hit the little button that unlocked the doors in the lobby. While she waited for him to get up to their floor she rummaged in her wallet for a twenty, and traded that for the pizza and bread sticks when they arrived.

Closing the door, Poo turned with both boxes balanced in her palm. "No eating on the new futon." There were paper plates in the cabinets. "There's some cans of Dr.Pepper in the fridge, why don't you grab a couple out?"

"I look forward to it. I'm sure it'll be just like Karate Kid," he chirped, obediently procuring drinks and flopping down on the floor, although he gave the beanbag chair a sideways and somewhat possessive look as he did so. "You can teach me how to catch flies in chopsticks. I got fast ******** fingers. Comes of all the texting. You should give me your number," he added. "So I can demonstrate, I mean. For science." Like he wasn't already inside her apartment, eating her food. Why bother with a number when you could knock on a door?

After grabbing a couple paper plates Po set the boxes on the coffee table and pulled it over to where Fix was sitting before sinking down herself. She then handed him a plate, took a can of soda, and began helping herself to pizza and bread sticks. "You look forward to it know, " she pointed out, chuckling. "Just wait til after the first time I get you in the ring with me."

"If you want my number though, you can have it." She prattled off a series of digits. "Just text me and let me know it's you, and I can add you."

The pizza was hand tossed, cheesy, and delicious. Requiring both hands to hold a slice, least it flop over and spill it's toppings into the holder's lap.

That had him scrambling for his phone, because Sawyer wasn't Rain Man, and needed the thing in front of him instantly if he was ever going to preserve it. And sure enough, he did move his thumbs over the screen like he'd been doing it since birth.

"Sent you a text," he informed her, re-pocketing it and reaching for his food again. He ate like a mouse, too: little bites, rapidfire, instead of huge mouthfuls. He talked around his food, though. The text, if checked now, said nothing but "you have cheese on your chin." Probably she did not actually have cheese on her chin. "And I do look forward to it. Maybe I'm a masochist. You don't know. I might be excited." He didn't look excited. He looked unhappy.

Po ignored the buzz of her phone from where it was currently sitting in the kitchen. Unlike most of the youth of the world she wasn't firmly attached to the thing. It was no doubt handy, convenient for getting in touch with others, perfect for those unforeseen occasions where you found yourself stranded on the other side of town after the transit system had finished it's last run of the night. It also held all her music, which was a very large plus. But it was a useful device, nothing more.

She'd check the text later, and it would probably make her laugh.

His attempts to convince her of his excitement earned him a snort of a laugh. "I suppose you could be. I mean I would be, but that's me. I like fighting." A shoulder rose, half a shrug. "So do you like your new apartment?"

"It's really... big." By his standards, anyway. And new. And clean. And full of appliances, with buttons, and a shower that didn't feel like he was being drooled on by a large, lukewarm dog. Terrifying, in other words. It scared him. The fear manifested in the way he slowed down his eating, his worried, distracted eyes absently searching over the wall over her shoulder, looking at nothing.

"It's nice. I'm just not used to it yet. You know how it is after you move. Always a little bit homesick, I guess. But it's... nice. I have to go whip around and introduce myself to all my neighbors. You're the first one. I'll feel better when I know everyone and feel like I can go and knock on a random door and ask for a... cup of flour," he finished skeptically. The idea of Sawyer baking was laughable. The idea of him hesitating to ask a stranger for anything was equally laughable. "I don't know how they afford it? But I also am not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth, neither. You are really ******** cute," he added as his eyes actually snapped to her face for a second, his words arriving around an uncouth mouthful of crust. He licked his thumb distractedly. But he dropped that sentence in like a mine in a field, and kept right on going on the previous topic.

"I figure they're holding it over us so we'll feel morally compelled to make ourselves useful. That's fine with me. Sometimes I need a little goading. I am incurably lazy. You have never met a lazier person in your life." He didn't seem lazy: the word seemed difficult to apply to someone full of so many fidgety little movements, so chattery. Even as he spoke he was jiggling his foot on his knee.

While Fix answered her, Porsha took her time finishing her slide of pizza. Paying close attention to the young man sitting across from her. The way he agree, the growing unease that followed that very simple, very short answer. It left her wondering if Fix the sort of person that didn't handle change well. Po couldn't exactly relate, she'd always rolled with the punches, so to speak. With her childhood change was something she'd come to long for. unobtainable hours and dreams that anyways seemed so out of reach.

Until Painite had find her, and powered her everything her little heart could desire.

She couldn't relate to Fix's apprehension, but she could understand it. In some ways he reminded her of Jude. Some how it seemed like pointing out that she didn't feel the same way would do more harm then good, so instead the teen nodded, listening intently.

The sudden inclusion of a compliment was startling, and it left her blinking at the young man as he simply carried on with the original topic as if he'd never veered from it to begin with. It had her sitting up a little straighter, a note of smugness seeping into the pleasant smile she'd been wearing. Mention of his laziness made her smirk. "I could believe that. How long have you been here new, and your still not unpacked?"

His fidgety behavior did not go unnoticed.

He didn't answer, not really. Instead he offered a defensive: "Well, you're not either, really," and polished off the last of the crumbs clinging to his fingers. This led, very naturally, into chewing his fingernails.

"Thanks for dinner," he said. Finally. Sawyer never said thank you until he was sure he'd gotten what he was supposed to be thankful for. "I should probably get out of your hair, since I don't think I'm up for having my a** kicked quite yet."
PostPosted: Sun Jul 14, 2013 11:50 pm

When no answers came the smirk only grew. She did however let it go, setting as she'd only been teasing him. As has already been clarified, unpacking sucked.

"Don't worry about it, I appreciate the company." She grabbed his empty page, set it on her own, then pulled those on top of the pizza boxes before carrying ask of it back to the kitchen. plates went ing the reach, boxes went in the fridge.

She was frowning when she turned back to face him, hips leaning back to rest in the counter top. "You don't have to go, really I don't mind the company." She liked her new apartment, but she missed having her best friend only a few houses down. "I was going to watch a movie, you're welcome to chill out for a while." The toe of her left shoe was pulled back then poked at the tile under foot.

He didn't need to be asked twice. He was in the process of getting up, shaking out his blazer and straightening his shoelaces, but he instead flopped down on the futon, obligingly patting the spot next to him, like it was his house and his couch.

"Obviously this is an argument I cannot win," he said valiantly, as though she'd been blocking the door for the past half hour instead of making a single open-ended suggestion. "What movie?"
PostPosted: Mon Jul 15, 2013 12:36 am

Well that didn't take much convincing. Relief obvious in her smile, Po pushed away from the counter and sank down into the futon beside him, toeing off her shoes so she could draw her legs up to cross Indian style before her. A remote was plucked from the golf up arm rest, and with a hit of a button her tv came to life.

A DVD menu came up. There were animated dragons flying around in the background. "I hope you don't mind animated stuff." She glanced at him quickly before hitting play, then sank down a little more comfortably on the couch beside him. As the movie began she reached over and snagged a pillow, hugging it against her stomach. A preemptive bid to keep her clingy urges in check least she forget Fix wasn't Jude, and might not appreciate her laying on him.

Her fears ended up being misplaced. The combination of food and a new friend and a good movie--because she shouldn't have been worried, because Fix existed almost entirely to absorb children's television and movies--and the half-dispelled fears of a new situation served to make him sleepy and affectionate, and not ten minutes into the movie he'd already managed to insinuate his head onto her lap, feet crossed on the arm of the futon and fingers laced over his belly when he wasn't distractedly chewing them.

He wouldn't remember the ending, later--by that time he was as comfortable as if they'd been friends since the cradle, and he drifted off peacefully with his head on her knee, his last passing thought that he hadn't actually ever told her his name.
