The Dragon

►❏❐❑❒◀

The Dragon gave it some thought but came up with nothing. "I do not know... Perhaps she thinks that you're strong. You said you defeated that giant monster made of crystal all by yourself, right?" It asked him rhetorically, in attempts to prove a point. "She must see power in you." It left the subject at that, not wanting to say anymore. The Dragon didn't know of what Scorpio had truly intended for him or why she had chosen him of all people, but he could guess. It noticed the boy's accent, but said nothing of it. A couple of seconds went by and silence filled the air. "Who are you the son of?" It asked, now noticing that Lance had stopped himself before saying his parent's name twice. Perhaps it was someone of importance...

Argh! God dammit, it was legit IN THE PROCESS of saying the post was successful, and I got the god damn blue screen of death. Took me almost 2 ******** hours to get back here. we are NOT amused.

User ImageLance had to admit that he was Meister-less and therefor not even halfway to being close to being able to demonstrate his full potential. And for some reason, as hellish as it had been, killin it had felt almost easy. It had only taken three well placed Hawkshots (his currently strongest attack) to take it down. But somehow the thought of being strong enough to warrant such attention was weird. Scary in that he'd gotten the attention of an apparently powerful enemy, but somehow it was slightly flattering. He didn't feel like admitting to this thing that he'd had some help--from the Madness that had started to seep into him--in his accomplishment.

But as he mulled it over, that question came that he'd tried so hard to not let out of the bag. His response was automatic, as if he'd been hard-wired to say exactly the same thing every time.

"I am Lance Archer, son of Jack "Dead-Eye" Archer, former Death Scythe." Lance felt a small explanation was in order just in case this dragon had never had the misfortune of being caught in his dad's sights, so to speak. The second bit came instantaneously, with no chance to respond to the first. "He is a man about six inches taller than myself but otherwise I've been told we're almost identical right down to the eyes. In weapon form, he is a large crossbow." Large was a bit of an understatement. Lance had seen jack in weapon form...Lord Death needed two hands just to hold it, let alone aim and fire. Put simply, if one could imagine an over-sized rifle and warp he shape to that of a crossbow, one would have a close approximation of Jack Archer's weapon form.

"Death Scythe?" The Dragon asked rhetorically. It was mainly thinking out loud at this point. "That would explain why you are here." It didn't exactly know who Jack Archer was, but since he was--according to his title--a Death Scythe, it assumed that he was a noteworthy person. The description did not help at all, since the Dragon never really left this Dimension... This Desert was its home. Not only that, but it was sort of trapped here... Long story short, Scorpio was the only one of the two of them who could make portals to go in and out of this place, she didn't want it to leave. The Dragon layed its head down, growing both tired of waiting and bored. "I am sorry my master is taking such a long time... She must be busy."

User ImageLance was being given more and more to think about as his conversation with this dragon went on. Half the things he was hearing made him wonder what was really so bad about the kishin and witches. The other half almost confirmed it. But for all he'd told his new company, he knew nothing himself about his captor or captors. And even then, the word didn't seem quite fitting.

"Well, you now know who I am, what I am, who my father is, and we both know essentially why I'm here. All I have is a name and a theory. Tell me about yourself a bit, about this place, and this Scorpio woman who you say brought me here. If I'm to be a prisoner, I would know my captors." But all these questions were nothing compared to the one he was dying to have answered. he'd asked it twice in two different ways and both times the answer had been skirted around but never answered outright. He knew this dragon knew something, that much was obvious fro the way it purposely stayed vague. And Lance just had to know what this Scorpio chick was planning on doing with him. But he kept his mouth shut on it for now.

The Dragon lifted its head up once more, hearing that Lance wanted to know about it and its master. "Well, if you must know..." It said, thinking of who and what to start with first. "I am the guardian of this dimension. My only purpose here is to make sure that no one trespasses the area and somehow gets into my master's home. I haven't left this place since Scorpio found me, which is fine with me. I don't mind it. She takes good care of me." It paused, not really good at talking about itself. It never liked to boast or brag, so it was trying its best to be humble. "This place, as I told you, is the Desert of Bones. Not many people come by here. It is mainly only my master and I, with the exception of the occasional wanderer or captive, much like yourself." It sighed, a small plume of smoke left from its nostrils. "My master... I know very little about her. All I know is that she is a former DWMA student. She killed her meister and left.... She is not a very empathetic person." It explained, sighing again out of boredom. The Dragon didn't want to say too much about Scorpio. Besides, it didn't know much anyways, not about her history.

User ImageOnce more, he was torn. She'd saved his life, only to (from the sound of it) use him for something not very nice. But what niceness had anyone ever shown him? His own father, the only family he had, would have left him back there to his fate. But...she's evil and clearly has no problem disposing of those no longer useful to her. She was once in the DWMA. Then it hit him and he spoke before he could stop himself.

"s**t, I'm supposed to start there tomorrow!" he said with too much anxiety. He ended up moving and agitating his injuries that had finally ceased to hurt as much. he winced but it was obvious he was thinking about attempting to stand. <******** it, I ain't going anywhere like this," he said more to himself than anything. "Occasional captive...and what's she been known to do to them?" Lance ventured. Maybe he could try and con the dragon into revealing something, although Lance had one or two guesses as to what he might be in for. He'd seen too many movies and read too many books not to have a pretty good idea of what he may or may not be in for. His stomach let out a low and almost angry-sounding gurgling growl and Lance pretended he hadn't heard or felt the churning of hunger that was becoming harder and harder to ignore.

The Dragon smirked at the boy's frustration with school versus being here. "I have a feeling that the start of school is going to be delayed due to the damage done to Death City..." It laughed. However, its laughter stopped after hearing the question. "What does she do to them?" It repeated, giving Lance a skeptical look. "Sorry, but I am not supposed to tell you that." It told him, looking up to the blood-red sky. Where was she?! She was taking a long time...

User ImageWell, he had his answer. That he'd pretty much have to wait and find out. As the dragon looked up, Lance found that he could just barely read its expression s being thoughtful, a bit of impatience...and he could almost have detected a hint of real concern. He had no idea how he could be so sure.

The Eagle Eye wasn't known for giving such incredible intuition. Only two members of the Archer family line had ever been able to use their Eye to predict the future, but it had been a very imperfect prediction process. According to one urban legend, it was only the oldest and/or most powerful of Archers that could use their Eagle Eye for reading minds or telling the future, and even then, it came with decades of training. It was an unnerving legend that had been told through many generations. The visions given had driven one of the two literally mad just hours before he committed suicide. The version Lance knew said that he'd been found with a frightening grin on his face and in his own blood he'd written on the ceiling "I can see." The other could only ever see what MIGHT happen. His visions, while always accurate, were subjective to the decisions made by those the visions involved. And they only came in his sleep. Lance had never heard of anything beyond the stuff of parlor tricks occurring in his lifetime. Intuition, mind-reading and telepathy, and one who'd claimed he could see through any attack or defense with it. All stories that were always told by someone who who knew a guy that was related to some girl who was cousins with so-and-so's fiance, who'd once dated the person the story was about.

Maybe Lance had just spent so much time getting to know the dragon that he'd begun picking up on its body language. Yeah, that had to be it. Lance Archer was too hungry to give it more credibility than that. he ignored his stomach but it was determined to be heard as he asked the dragon one last question.

"What's your name?"

The Dragon looked down at Lance. "My name?" Why it kept repeating things, the Dragon itself did not know. It was just how it talked... It had been far too long since someone had asked him that... And the answer was always: "I have none, not that I know of... My master just calls me Dragon." It said, smoke puffing from its nose again. It heard the boy's stomach grumbling, but said nothing of it. It wasn't like it had anything for him to eat...

User ImageHow terribly unimaginative. Lanc would have to remedy that by given g this thing a name. It felt rather rude to only call it by its species. "How terribly unimaginative, I'll have to remedy that," Lance said with almost no hesitation. "But...for now, I am weary. Mind if I..." but it was too late. LAnce was asleep so fast that he was out lirerally before he finished the sentence. Apparently the trauma and stress of the past couple hours had finally caught up with him. Always a sound sleeper before, Lance was essentially dead to the world now. As he entered REM, a name passed his lips and he smiled as he said, "Eleanor..."

The Dragon nodded in agreement. It was unimaginative... Seconds later, it noticed that Lance had fallen asleep. He must've been awfully tired, since he had said that he defeated a crystal beast... It was better if he slept anyways. He, knowing Scorpio, would get very little sleep later on... Poor boy... "I don't mind at all..." It said quietly. Seconds went by before he just barely heard a name... Eleanor? Who was that? That wasn't supposed to be the Dragon's name, was it? If not, then what? Maybe it was someone he knew... Or maybe it was just the name of a thing. Sometimes people name things, right? Well, whatever it was, it didn't bother the Dragon. Now if only Scorpio would show up soon...

As the Dragon sat and watched over Lance, Scorpio appeared through a portal. It was clear that she had used that technique to take out her enemy. The one where she goes into full madness, doubling her strength and such... She took a couple of steps before passing out--the side affect of using that. Scorpio laid there for what seemed like could have been fifteen... maybe less... minutes before waking up, good as new again. The Dragon could sense that she had finally entered her own domain and stood guard. "Ah! Dragon, I can see you've been watching over him..." She said as she walked up to the Dragon. "Good job." She added, approaching the boy. He was asleep... Without any warning, she picked him up and slung him over her shoulder, as though he were just some object like a blanket or a towel. "You're comin' with me." She walked into her "lair" or whatever it should be called. Headquarters? Main residing area? Eh, whatever. It wasn't like it mattered much to her.

Walking in, she semi-gently (gently isn't so gentle for those who have giant metal machines for hands...) put Lance down in a room. It was a plain room: white-tiled floors and ceiling, every wall was a giant mirror. It was surprisingly cold for a room inside a volcano.... "Oi, kid, you awake?" She asked him, kicking his side.

About bloody time. Btw, would you like me to pm you the post-timeskip profile I made?

User ImageLance had been dreaming. Although his body did not move so much as a centimeter as he slumbered, his dreams were anything but peaceful.

Lance stood before his father, only jack was...taller. Younger. And then Lance could see that he was a child standing before his father...who then turned away from young Lance and held out a hand.

He was leading Lance somewhere now. Not far, but it was clear from the silence that it was important. One step, two steps, three steps up and then Lance was lifted into the air to look into an ornate coffin, where his mother Marian, lay as if she were only in a deep peaceful sleep. Little Lance's eyes were not quite the pale gold they were yet, only a whitish pale yellow. His father's eyes were a vivid lemon color, and tears were coming from them.

Now Lance was standing in Death City, and in front was his father laying face down in the street. Upon closer inspection, Lance saw it was not his father. it was himself, only a decade older. Jack Archer was held in the hands of Lord Death. The sight was aimed directly at Lance...but not the dead Lance. jack was being aimed at the Lance who stood next to the older, dead one. Lance felt a weight in his hands, and he looked down and saw a melee weapon. It was red, just like his own clothes. He felt a sickening smirk on his own face as he turned and started down the barrel of his father.

Scene change. Lance was in a desert, and all around were the charred remains of demons, humans, and all manner of creatures besides. They were just skeletons. Bones. His vision went black and was soon seated upon a massive black dragon, screaming in joy and pain at the same time. he could see they were flying towards a mountain...it was belching smoke and fire into the air. The mountain looked familiar...almost like a burned out Death City, but that was impossible. Death City had withstood for centuries and no army had yet taken it. As they neared the smoldering ruin, he saw it was indeed not Death City but a volcano. He heard a female's voice. He felt himself hit the side of he volcano, sans dragon. he felt a boulder slam into his side, and he coughed up a human soul. That was when his eyes opened, and Lance was finally awake.

Scorpio stood over him and the kick she'd given had not been pleasant. It took, however, all of three-quarters of a second for him to put it together. He was on his feet in a instant, hand pulled back as if to fire a Hawkshot...a bluff, to be sure, but there was no way she could know that he was 100% out of ammo, would be for at least half a day yet. His body was weak and shaking with hunger and thirst and the various injuries that had yet to fully heal, or really heal much at all. And yet there he stood, trying to look all threatening as he forced out a single sentence. As far as intimidating threats go, this one was by far not the most convincing.

Come any closer, and you'll be seeing your....pet, real soon in a hurry. Truly a pathetic display of false bravado. His voice and body were shaking horribly, and his face was more pained grimace than the threatening sneer he was going for. Even his soul wavelength was a bit iffy around the edges.

Scorpio laughed at Lance's threat. He's trying to defend himself in his condition? How pathetic... She thought, seeing that he had taken some kind of stance of defense. She raised her arm, aiming her giant metal hand at him, ready to fire at any moment. "If you fire, I fire." She responded with a smirk. Scorpio could tell that he was weak, and probably out of energy. She could understand why. I mean, the kid did take out that giant crystal b*****d an hour or so ago. His lack of energy didn't surprise her.

She took one step forward, her fist just a foot away from his face. "Weren't you going to do something if I got any closer?" She laughed again, now for a bit longer than before. "Pathetic." Scorpio put her hand back down by her side. "I like your stubbornness, though. Reminds me of someone I used to know." Kicking him once more, she sighed. "You don't know why you're here, do you?"

User ImageShe took the step forward, her own hand raised. He hadn't seen what those fingers could do but he had a feeling, from the way that she seemed not at her limit, that her attack would be a bit more devastating than his own. As she stepped closer, and made her dare, his arms dropped in defeat. But not before she kicked him again.

He felt the blow strike just above his hip, and he crumpled, dropping to his hands and knees with a loud grunt. He turned his face up to Scorpio, unable to get back to his feet...but that didn't mean the look on his face or in his eyes was anything but defiant and steadfast in its refusal to give her an inch. "You brought me here because you think I'll be useful to you," he spat at her, his voice full of venom despite the fact that he had no power to back himself up, "but I'll never help you with anything and you'll never make me."
