The invitation wasn't really tacky as it was bizarre. What did the Sonatas want with her? They probably invited rocks to get someone to show up. With them being so... selective and all. Selective was a nice for them, it wasn't mean. Still, Brooke was pretty curious as to what kind of party this would be. And she couldn't deny the mansion was a pretty sight. Also, having to share her room with her sister for so long, she didn't really get a chance to know what a proper slumber party was. Then again, proper was a poor word for the Sonata's eccentricities. Once she got to the mansion she looked around to whoever was already here. Classmates she might recognize and-Oh. That's right, she graduated this year. Where was her head anyways? What had she done with her life? No matter, this would still be enjoyable. "Right?" she said softly to herself as she adjusted her bag. Maybe.

Birthday parties were not exactly Keegan's cup of tea. However, free food had always been, so he decided it might not be soooo bad if he went. What was the worst that could happen? It might even be a little entertaining! Maybe he'd end up enjoying himself, though he doubted it. It was at least something for him to do, and it was another chance to get away from the kid. That was always a good thing to be able to do. Not that he didn't love his tiny ball and chain, but it felt good to just drop him off at the daycare and go out for a night of debauchery. Okay. So there would probably not be any debauchery, but it was a nice thought. Living on the edge was not something that Keegan typically associated himself with, but he was willing to try anything once. He wasn't sure if this was supposed to be a birthday party or not, the invitation had been pretty vague. So, a gift (that he was honestly probably not going to buy in the first place) was probably not necessary. He gathered up what few things he needed, this was a slumber party right? Oh s**t. What if it wasn't supposed to be a slumber party?

He debated awhile on whether or not he should bring anything before deciding it was best to be overly prepared than under. He grabbed up his bag, dropped the kid off at daycare, and walked to the grand mansion. He saw that a few guests had already arrived ahead of him, most of which were girls. They all seemed to be around the same age, maybe a little older. He knew he had seen them at school a time or two. Maybe that's what this was? A way to see off all of the graduating kids? As if he would care about something like that. He stopped a few feet shy of everyone and began to rethink coming.

There were probably a million good reasons why Jeremy should have just stayed home today. First off, he had never really been properly invited to this thing that Mimi was throwing. Secondly, he was probably one of the youngest there, if not the youngest, and his red-haired friend had mentioned something about being eighteen? Honestly, he tuned her out a lot of the time. You sort of had to. Then there was the fact that it was being held in the Sonata Mansion, which was sort of like wandering into Dracula's castle voluntarily. Then again, there was one very good reason for going, aside from supporting his childhood friend yadayadayada: It was being held in the Sonata Mansion, which was sort of like wandering into Dracula's castle voluntarily. Maybe Jeremy wasn't the most rash person around, but he still had a taste for adventure that could not ignore an opportunity like this.

By the time he arrived, a number of other kids had beaten him to it. ...A lot of girls, actually. He looked at Kasie, Elizabeth, and Brooke with a friendly glance, ignoring Keegan because that guy had always sort of intimidated him, and marched right up to Mimi. "Hey, Mimi," he greeted, nodding to Brian. "Nice turn-out."

Arriving not long after Jeremy, the twins found themselves at yet another party that they themselves would not have necessarily chosen to attend if they had complete control of their free time. At least they both had a little more interest in coming to this party than the last one. In fact, Mei had been a little nervous about them going to the Sonata Mansion, and for a split second it looked like she would outright prohibit them from going. But in the end, her guilt and desire to have children with normal social lives won out, and the twins found themselves making their way to the oversized mansion.

Jian didn't care about kids his own age, but he had always wanted to see what the mansion looked like up close and inside. As a child he had been convinced that the Sonata's kept dragons in their basements, probably getting the idea from some poorly researched TV show he would watch when there was nothing else to do. Although he had matured and knew that keeping full grown dragons under a building was completely unlikely and impractical, he had never quite given up on the idea of seeing it for himself. Chun Fei also had her reasons for not dreading this party. This was a so-called boy-girl party (the term being one that always irritated Yue to no end, claiming that it was sexist to assume that single-gender parties were the norm and that gender equality between children was something unusual, so Chun Fei always made sure to use the phrase as often as possible) and Fei hadn't been to one in a long time. She had so much to learn.

The twins stood away from the others, as they usually did. Chun Fei assessed the party-goers, a little disappointed that it was just the usual kids from school, though who else would it be? Ah, there was Brian... She gave him the smallest smile before redirecting her attention to her feet.

Inside the mansion, January had no idea what was waiting for her on her front doorstep. Of course Mimi had never talked to her about having the party in the mansion -- January didn't talk to her classmates, and she surely would have said no if she had been asked. As such, she was blissfully unaware of the storm that was brewing. Well, maybe not blissfully. You see, January was sick. Pretty damn sick. It wasn't anything ladylike, like the sniffles or a cocaine overdose, it had to be the thing that had her doing the most disgusting, horrifying things in the most disgusting, horrifying ways possible. Much of this week had been spent in bed, with servants waiting at the foot of her bed with buckets, but today was different. Lilia had gone out of town, to go shopping or skiing or to get some more fat removed from that huge a** of hers. (Okay, it probably wasn't that last one, but it did make her feel better to imagine it.) Normally this would be a good thing, but that b***h had taken the entire staff with her. January had primarily been raised by the servants, and much like a sick child needs his mother, she needed her underpaid, underappreciated, and overworked servants, dammit!

She was shuffling back from the bathroom, clad in pajamas and slippers that cost more than a car, when the doorbell rang. She paused, waiting to hear the butler announce who it was who dared to use the front entrance, when she remembered that there was no butler! Standing there sort of uselessly, she glanced around just to make sure there wasn't a maid hiding behind one of the vases like there sometimes was. This... was new to her. Normally she would have just gone back to bed, but... what if it was a doctor? What if was her brother? What if it was a servant coming to take care of her? She shuffled over to the door, adjusting the very expensive shawl that was draped over her shoulders, and opened the front door with some difficulty -- she'd never had to open this door before! "Rath is that y--?" she began in a weak voice as the heavy door swung open, but her sentence ended midway as soon as she saw not a capable adult come to take care of her, but a bunch of kids from her schooldays. The blonde was completely dumbstruck, and all she could do was gawk at the gaggle of teenagers standing on her doorstep. She couldn't even summon the brainpower to demand they explain themselves, her ability to produce speech had been completely startled out of her.

Brian had been getting pretty good at tuning out Mimi as the girl spoke, finding himself admiring the courtyard as he subtly checked for anyone else to come and save him from this horrible situation. He was sure there was more than just Mimi and Brian in desperate need of socializing with people closer to their age group.. And maybe at least three or four others who were just as loss and confused about embarking on adulthood. ..Maybe at least two people who were mourning the loss of some hot piece of – oh, hey. His smile grew wide and excited as he saw someone else heading up to the Sonata mansion – a girl! By herself, yeah, but there was a girl who would probably be semi-normal and totally oh no it was the brunette. Brian's face fell swiftly as he recognized one Kasie Harper, someone he hadn't spoken to before but he knew she was a contender for most annoying classmates at school. That was probably a mean thought, but he wasn't hurting anyone by thinking it, was he?

Besides, Mimi was happy to play the good hostess as she waved excitedly to the first girl to appear, having followed Brian's eyes the moment he turned completely from her. The Sonata door hadn't opened yet, which had her just a little worried, but, then, Mimi knew she could break into the mansion with the help of all her friends! Then they could find out what happened to the Sonata family and oooh maybe this was destiny? Maybe this was going to be the big news story that would break her into the investigative field and become a big hit like her father?! She was practically glowing as she saw two more girls come after the first – oh! And there was the student DAD! And then there was Jeremy and her attention span swapped to the boy as soon as he called for it. “Jeremy!! I'm so happy you came, Jeremy, I think we're going to need to break into the place and investigate a murder – Hiii, Keegan! – and how can I be an investigator when I don't – Hello, Brooke! – have a Watson with me?! You're so important to this team – Welcooome, Kasie! – except I guess it's more like Scooby Doo now that – Hi, there, Elizabeth! – there's so many of us? – Jian, Chun Fei, hey! – But we can't both be Daphne, Jeremy!” She had her arms around him midway through her ramble, pausing every few words to smile or wave as she greeted everyone.

Brian couldn't really top what Mimi was pulling off over there, so he kept his hands in his pockets and gave what he thought was a sexy nod to Chun Fei when she smiled at him. Except he actually hoped it wasn't a sexy nod, now that he thought about it, because Chun Fei was still a teenager, wasn't she? Well, a high school teenager and he was being that creepy college guy swooping in on underage girls whoa. Whoa, he didn't like the thought of that at all. He swallowed and instead decided to greet the girl who opened the door. “....” Or he would have if she didn't look so dumbstruck and obviously sick. He tried not to make a face because that wouldn't be polite but he wasn't really disgusted by her so much as aghast that Mimi hadn't told the Sonatas at all. Oh, hey, richest and probably most powerful girl in town, let's just drop all these teenagers on your doorstep one night. Smaaart. “...Uh, hey. January, right?

Before Brian could give the girl at the door a chance to answer with what he knew was definitely true (But it was still polite, damn it, Mimi, did the sheriff not teach manners or what?), Mimi had unlatched from Jeremy and turned towards the girl at the doorway. “JANUARY!! Hi, hello, I can't believe you opened the door to us like that! I thought you would have someone else do it but then you did it yourself – oh wow – you are such a good host!” She beamed at the girl – or, she guessed woman? Were they both women now? Weird! She paused a moment to take that in, except within that same moment she realized that, however a good host January was being, she hadn't invited anyone in! Could she not know that that was what you did? She seemed so lost that Mimi couldn't help but to help! So, she marched forward and 'gently' pushed January aside with a shout of, “Come on in, everyone!! It's time to get this slumber party started! Yeah!

This really felt like school. Except there were no desks and no substitute teacher about to cry because Mimi wouldn't stop talking. And Mimi did get to talking, and very very quickly. Brooke had barely gotten a word in herself when Mimi was off speaking with-well everyone. So, the girl continued to look around the group recognizing a very good deal of them. However her attention shifted more to Keegan. She didn't really know him, but he was a recent addition to the class and all. If he would notice her though, he would find a small smile though. A friendly one. Of course that attention was back to Mimi when she... attacked January. Brooke couldn't help but stifle a good laugh at that. That was bold. "Might as well." she said with a small shrug and followed Mimi and the rest into the grand Sonata Mansion.

This whole thing was quickly becoming less and less fun. Not that it had ever really been fun, but it was a lot less fun now. In the final seconds before the door had open, he considered turning around and walking back home. No one of particular interest was here, though it seemed a few of them found him to be interesting. He raised his head ever so slightly at the sound of Mimi welcoming him. That girl seemed to still be as annoying and high strung as ever, much to his disliking. He turned his head casually to look at Brooke and vaguely returned her smile. His attention was turned to the interactions with the lady of the house, thinking it might actually be interesting. It really seemed that ...January, was it? didn't know anything about this party. That actually was pretty interesting. Despite all that he had previously felt, he really needed to see how this all turned out. He was even a little elated to hear that this actually was a slumber party. He turned his head back to Brooke when she spoke and quickly followed suit. There wouldn't be much fun to be had standing out here waiting, after all.

He took a few glances around the interior, largely disappointed with what he saw. Perhaps it was his high expectations, but there wasn't even a servant in sight. What kind of a "mansion" was this? Maybe they could uncover some wonderful secrets about the town's royalty. He thought about striking up conversation with someone, but quickly remembered the company he was keeping. So he quickly resorted to walking down the hall and looking at the decor.

January was startled beyond belief, and she gawked at Mimi and the horde of other teenagers on her front step, not seeming to really hear anything anyone was saying. The redhead was going so fast, her sick brain just couldn't keep up, and did anyone ever really expect to see a bunch of former classmates, none of whom they had had any relationship with whatsoever, standing at their door? She opened and closed her mouth wordlessly as she watched everyone file in, into her house. It wasn't until they were all standing in the entry that she was able to vocalize something. "Uh wuh buh--" she began clumsily, her voice weak from her illness. "No... what are you doing... don't... stop it this instant... get out..." she protested, but her voice was so soft and small that she doubted anyone could hear it. Her arms hung limply at her sides and the only thing she could do was let the heavy door swing shut.

Jeremy smoothed down his hair as Mimi had let go of him, feeling a little bit like he had gotten caught in a tornado like he always did. It didn't take him long to figure out that Mimi hadn't called ahead of time -- though he could have guessed that without seeing the Sonata girl in person. Although he did feel a little bad for springing this party on a sick girl in her pajamas, he was too curious about the inside of the mansion and the promise of a good party to let that guilt get the better of him. "Where are we headed, Mimi?" he asked his friend as he looked around with a wide smile. "Are we going to hang around the front door? Or go find a parlor or something?" he laughed and elbowed Keegan in the arm playfully. He didn't really know Keegan at all, but he was the only one within elbow-reach. "What sort of party games do you have planned, anyway?" It wasn't a party without games and the quality of the games was very important.

Jian gave Chun Fei's arm a sharp tug as he pulled her into the house, making sure she steered clear of the sick girl as much as possible. Once they were away from miserable blonde at the door, Jian let go of his sister, giving her a small push to stop standing so close. He glanced over at Brooke, but without greeting her, simply stared. It was neither friendly nor menacing, but appraising. He already knew Mimi and Keegan were trash, but maybe the brunette had potential. But he doubted it.

With a squeak, Chun Fei stumbled as Jian let go of her. She caught herself, but not without lightly brushing Brian's arm. "I-I'm sorry," she murmured, smoothing her long, sleek hair over one shoulder and revealing her neck and slightly pink ear.

Now, this was just sad. Brian hadn't hesitated to catch Chun Fei when her brother pushed her, which he supposed must be some sort of brother and sister thing. Brian didn't have any siblings, so he couldn't really judge the equally attractive twin for being what was probably just a socially acceptable brother. Still, he would have loved to step in and be the good guy after she was pushed off onto him, because what better opportunity was there than at a unisex slumber party in a house full of empty bedrooms? …...He let out a sigh and put his hands in his pockets, looking up and away from Chun Fei. “S'okay.” He assured her monotonously as he glanced at the 'of age' group in the room. ...None of them looked good enough to be a distraction, honestly. He guessed he would just bond with the rich girl, make some good connections while he was here. That was what his uncles always talked about, after all – networking. So, he wandered to stand next to January without a word, looking at Mimi expectantly.

The girl was preoccupied with darting her eyes and head about like a hummingbird, taking in the environment with curiosity and glee. It was so big! So pretty! So like all the paintings she would sometimes see in their history books when they talked about real princes and princesses! Mimi wasn't really the type to be that into royalty and things like that, but it was hard not to find it so cool to feel like they were back in the medieval times, storming the king's castle, leading a revolution...! She bet they even had a toy guillotine around here! She had heard her mother mention a 'torture chamber' before, but Mimi knew that her mother would never allow anyone to keep something like that around, so it must be a play pretend sort of torture chamber the Sonata family used sometimes.

Those thoughts all came to a stop when Jeremy's voice reminded her they weren't here to play revolution, but were in fact here to play a very fun game! Yes! Mimi clapped her hands together multiple times, “Okay! I'm going to be your leader on this wonderful, super, fantastic, and, above all, FUN sleepover! Any objections?!” She paused to grin widely at the group, but went on regardless of whether they had any or not. No one else was fit to lead them, after all! “Follow me, everyone!” She shouted as she pointed off in a random direction, walking down a hall and setting her hands on the first door she found. She swung it open to reveal....! “We're sleeping in the kitchen tonight!!” She yelled behind her at the group, unsure if they had caught up yet or not. In the meantime, she dropped down on the first open space she found and waited, flapping her folded knees as she did so. It was just so hard to sit still when she knew the fun that was going to happen!

Keegan was beginning to realize how little he had in common with people his own age. He felt at this moment that he had more in common with Sani than any of these buffoons. He thought he had secured a safe distance away from any concerns of actually dealing with them when he felt an unfamiliar twinge in his arm. He turned his head sharply to look at the culprit, Jeremy. Ugh. This guy. Of the people in attendance, he was sure that Jeremy was not the person that he wanted to strike any sort of conversation with. "Don't do that." He said with a snarl before continuing to take a few more steps down the hall. The next sound to offend his ears was a clap of Mimi's hands together. Though he wasn't too fond of the girl, he was glad that they were starting to get something done. He had yet to see any food at all, and that was the only reason that he was even putting up with all of these imbeciles. "Sleeping in the kitchen?" He mumbled, a bit shocked at that development. This place was huge, there just had to be somewhere else more comfortable for them to sleep. Kitchens didn't even have carpet. "I do have an objection." He cleared his throat while following after her, "I think we can find something with like actual carpet or anything..." He let his voice trail off as he looked around the kitchen. Sure, it was a lot bigger than he had first thought, but it wasn't anything he'd want to sleep in.
