Judah's calm faded that quickly. She looked terrified again. "Don't panic..." That was much easier said than done. Concentrating as hard as she could, she lifted her her back feet and tried not to put all of her weight on the log.
She started to curse when the log started to rock, but it didn't roll. Keep calm, she kept saying in her head.

"Tell me when you're ready," he said as he watched. "I don't know how hard I'm going to have to pull to move you."

"Ready as I'll ever be," she mumbled. "Do it."

He nodded then turned to face the nearest shore. After a deep breath he turned to the nearest shore, a small island, and started hauling the log. Each pull resulted in a jerk of the log.

Judah let out a little cry every time the log jerked, but she did her best to stay as calm as she could, and not roll the log. She wanted to ask how long it would be, but she was too scared.
