T H R O W I N G W E A P O N S F L Y I N G K N I V E S Daesat watched Xenosa throw another tantrum, it amused her to great lengths to push her apprentice to the point of breaking her, but it was necessary if they someday wanted to do something good with Xen. Dae was hoping to build some patience into the girl, work her like a blacksmith worked hot iron with a hammer to shape the metal into a beautiful sharp weapon. It was not an easy task, but the older Orderite had more patience than most for this sort of thing. “Xenosa, breath. We will find you a weapon once we are able to, there are still many to try.” That had been the first step to training the girl, finding her a suitable weapon so Xenosa could begin training with it right away. They’d so far tried different variations of sword, a shield, a bow, crossbow, hammer, spikes and many more. The only one Xenosa seemed to be proficient with was a dagger.
“I don’t understand why we are still looking for something for me to try when I’m obviously very good with a dagger.” Xenosa lamented, looking up the tree at her mentor with angry eyes. Her look was met with a cool one.
“Because, you’re very weak in hand to hand combat and a single dagger won’t do you any good. If you wish to be trained like me, you need to be able to hit your target from afar Xenosa. You need to move—“
“Unseen. Yes I know.” Her teacher’s moto was move as silent as the night so even the stars cannot find you. While Xenosa completely agreed, she was getting tired of trying to find herself a suitable weapon and wished she could simply settle on something easy. Sitting down onto the ground with a heavy thump, Xenosa looked around at the mess of discarded weapons. They’d gone through a lot of them, and she didn’t feel any closer to finding something that would be useful for her. Xen wanted to use the daggers, in fact she was willing to give in extra time for some hand to hand combat with Dae would only let her, but she had not voiced her opinion on the matter yet. Standing up once more, Xen walked over to the small pile and rummaged through it to try something else.
A leather pack of sorts that was tied down with a string caught the smaller Odrerites attention, removing the string; Xenosa unraveled the leather and peered at its content. Small silver daggers were inside; they weren’t carved or very pretty at all. Turning towards Daesat, Xenosa held up the knives to her. “What about these?”
Dae looked down, head tilting to the side. “Throwing knives, we weren’t very good with the bow I’m unsure how you would do with those.”
“But I could have more than one weapon on me. Learn to hide them, learn to hit things better.” Xenosa took one of the knives out, weighing it in her hand. She wasn’t too sure on how to throw them; she looked up to Daesat for instruction.
“You should be able to throw it anyway, you never know if what end you’re grabbing.”
Sighing loudly so her discontent could be heard, Xenosa grabbed onto the part of the knife that wasn’t sharp and took a deep breath before throwing the knife. It was an awkward throw, but the knife struck the bark of the tree and stayed there. Daesat looked down and nodded her head. “Well well well. You can throw at least, if you want to stick with those you can go ahead, otherwise go back to the pile.” Daesat never gave compliments, Xenosa knew so and what she’d just said was as close to one as she was gonna get.
“I’m going to keep these.”
“Good,” Daesat jumped down from her perch. “Now I’ll show you how to hide them on your body.”

F I R S T T R Y My first dragon and I am a complete and utter failure. Of course Daesat was unhappy, told me that I had simply been unlucky and sent me right back out as soon as she could. I think it is inexperience on my part, I am still young, still learn, but Dae expects me to be good as her. I will someday, but until then I need more training.

K I L L O N E Again I must face another failure, Daesat let her irritation show through much more this time. I feel unworthy of her time, but I wish she would stop sending me out on dragon hunts and actually help me with my technique. She does none of those things, and I doubt I would be able to voice my concerns to her without feeling wrath from her. So I go out once more.

T H I R D O N E ' S A C H A R M I have received my final warning from Daesat, if I do not bring back an orb she does not want to see me. I am afraid that she will leave me behind like my own mother, everyone leaves me behind and I am stuck in this pit of hell. I will leave my grandmother’s house tho, as soon as I can get an orb back to Dae she will see I am worthy of her time.

W I L L Y O U D I E ? I am unable to return to Daesat as I have yet to win a single dragon battle, my grandmother seems to have noticed my morose mood and the extra time I spend around her. She has said nothing, but I do not see kindness in her gesture towards me either. I will return out and hunt as soon as I can. There will be no lacking on my part.

W I N N E R W I N N E R ! All the practicing I have done, it has finally paid off! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! I am very much excited for this change in direction because I have finally something worth showing for. I have hidden the orb from my grandmother, but my happiness has been infectious and she’d been quite nasty to me. Tomorrow, I return to the field and kill myself another dragon.

S E E W H A T I C A N D O With two vibrant glowing Ysali dragon orbs in hand, Xenosa sought out Daesat the next day. Her instructor was in her regular place of rest, a quiet tavern that didn’t ask too many questions and was great for making unsavoury transactions. Dae was sitting with her back to the wall facing the door, as did the other patrons too Xen noticed, and Dae smiled as she saw her apprentice. Knowing it was okay to advance closer towards her, the Orderite girl moved between chairs and tables until she took a seat beside Dae with her own back against the wall.
“So little spy, what do you have for me? It’s been quite a few days since I’ve heard from you… And…” Dae’s eyes gleamed as Xen began taking out the orbs. “I spy with my little eye something precious.”
“You told me not to come back until I had proven myself. Well here's your proof.”
Dae put her hands on Xenosa’s just before she began taking out the orbs, Xen gave her a curious glance but only received a small smile.
“Not here, it’s not safe. You shouldn’t trust anyone in a tavern ever, taverns are places of business and not of pleasure as some might seem.”
Xenosa glanced around at the other patrons, some looked away from the duo, others caught her look and held it until they nodded to acknowledge her and moved on.
“Well Xenosa, I am quite proud of you. I thought you’d give up at some point, or would die. Which would be unfortunate of course, you are quite the good little apprentice, but I do want to see you through to becoming an Adept and growing into a wonderful woman.”
“It’s not like I had much of a choice now did I?”
Xenosa glared Daesat down; the instructor shrugged and took a swing of her cup. Dae had certainly not given her the choice, and Xen felt like she’d almost been set up to fail from the beginning by her instructor. Why else would the crazy lady send her out on her own with literally no training to go and fight some dragons? Whatever the reason, Xen had learned her lesson or so she thought. She was never really sure what Daesat was trying to teach her, frustrated her to no end, but she did know Dae did it on purpose simply to push Xenosa’s buttons.
“Keep those orbs safe until you meet with Aevah Avi, you need to prove your worth.”
“Did you just say…” Xenosa could not believe it, her eyes went wide. “Aevah Avi? The leader?”
Daesat chuckled then proceeded to training her cup.
“Yes, that leader. Maybe your family isn’t too keen on your independence, but I am and you need to meet her and chose your own path. From there, you no longer belong to your family. Why don’t we go and see if she can’t squeeze you in? I’m sure she’ll be thrilled to hear about your return.”
Xenosa was all confused, but she followed Daesat with a feeling of numbness. Why would Aevah Avi want to meet with her of all people?

I M P O R T A N T M E E T I N G Daesat had arranged a meeting between Xenosa and the leader of the Orderites Aevah Avi. The apprentice did not know how to feel about the whole ordeal, plus she was bewildered that her instructor could do such a thing on a whim. Unless, Dae was a far more important person than Xenosa knew her to be, which was slightly scary to learn but also thrilling. It meant that Xen was getting one of the best educations out there instead of rotting out at home helping her grandmother with chore and wasting away her life for the old hag. No more, Xenosa was about to meet the woman in charge!
Apart from that one time when medals had been handed out, Xenosa had never laid eyes on her leader. Now as she walked towards the woman’s office, she began to feel conscious. The Orderites were known for their soft and airy colors, darker tones weren’t a desired trait amongst the people and Xenosa was very much aware of the colors of her eyes. Deep plum that were usually surrounded with dirt had been cleaned away and Dae had helped Xenosa put on a little make up to pretty her up. Even her usually crazy hair has been thoroughly washed, the braids taken out so that knew ones would be in place, and her hair was in a tight bun with two braids on the side now. Dae had even gone as far as getting a dress for Xenosa which made her look more childish and girl than the Orderite liked.
“Behave yourself and think about whom you are meeting Xenosa.”
The words had been engraved in her mind by Daesat as she had walked her to the entrance of the office of their leader.
“You’re going in by yourself, be brave.” Aesat looked from the closed door to Xenosa. “And be careful.”
With those words, Daesat had turned Xenosa around and shoved her into the office. The doors closed behind her and Xenosa stood there at the entrance, looking at the back of Aevah Avi’s lithe frame.
“Come in, take a seat Xenosa.” Doing as she was told, Xen picked up her dress and advanced towards the desk. She plopped herself down onto one of the chairs and looked around. Several scrolls lay on her desk, feather and ink as well. Aevah had been busy. When the woman turned to finally face Xenosa, she had a soft smile on her lips.
“I am happy to finally meet you; Daesat has praised you a many times.” Aevah moved and also took a seat in front of Xenosa. “I will be truthful with you Xenosa, I do not understand your families terrible misconduct towards you. They have not trained you properly, but I am quite happy that Daesat has decided to have you as her apprentice. I hear she will make you her adept soon.”
“That is correct.”
“In any case, I wanted to meet with you. I had only heard from your family, as they had decided for you the path of a civilian. It seems though that you have been quite useful as a battler…” Aevah shook her head gently. “You aren’t a Hybrid, why wold they waste such talent…” The leader sighed softly.
“In any case, you are here today for a few reasons, and I will begin with the simplest.” She took out a scroll and the feather which she used to write with. “You have chosen the bath of a battler am I correct?” She began writing on the scroll.
“Yes.”
“Your weapon of choice?”
“Throwing knives.”
“How will you contribute to society?”
“I… I believe I am being trained as a spy.”
Aevah chuckled softly.
“Would you like to leave your current home situation?”
“Yes.”
“Good, then I am putting Daesat as your guardian. She has an interesting set of skills that are most useful and is she has taken a liking in you I do hope she instills these skills on you.” The next minutes were spent in silence, Aevah did not look up to Xenosa and Xen simply waited. When Aevah finally stopped writing, she sealed her scroll and handed it to Xenosa.
“You will hand that scroll to the man waiting outside. You are dismissed.”

F A M I L Y M E E T I N G Oaia had gone out of her way to be pleasant to Xenosa the rest of the week, Xen suspected it had started when a courier had arrived and delivered something that the Elder had not wanted her to see. In all the years she had stayed with the woman, not once had she been nice to her, and Xen did not believe that it was out of the goodness of the old farts heart. So she’d followed her grandmother around, observing her and trying to figure out what it was exactly she was hiding and making her so happy. When Xenosa finally found the letter, she was shocked. The letter was about her, it was asking her grandmother to visit the family for a reunion, leaving Xen home so they could discuss her future.
Xenosa did not believe herself to be some little child to be left at home anymore, so she followed her grandmother into the city and straight to her family’s home. Xen had never been to her family home, Oaia had never gone and when her mother had stopped coming it was too late for her to follow. Xen was quite nervous; the home was large and lavish, telling her that her family were of some sort of high rank. Xen knew why they had hidden her in the depths of hell, but her anger boiled up even more now. She’d never had love for her siblings, but that she had been denied this… Her hatred reared its ugly head in the direction of the home.
Stomping up the steps to the home, Xenosa banged on the door as hard as she could three times and waited. She heard some shuffling, a few voices and then a servant opened the door to look down upon her.
“May I help you?”
Shoving him aside as hard as she could, she heard the thump and the protest the man made before she entered the home and her eyes scanned around. A grand stair case was before her, halls to either side of it and parlors too. She went down one of the halls, hearing the man yelling a name as he scrambled after her. She found the dining room easily enough and stared at everyone inside. Her five siblings all stared back at her, mouths open and looking shocked. Her mother stared at her, hands gripping the table so hard her knuckles were going white; Xenosa found her pretty and only slightly older looking than what was left of her memory in her mind. There was also a man there, her mother’s husband who was standing up and starring down at her. They were all pale colors of pink, gold, white, blue… Nothing like Xenosa’s flamboyant magenta hair and dark eyes, so rare in an Orderite that people often looked at her twice just to make sure.
“I’m so sorry sir, she shoved me aside and ran in like a maniac.” The butler excused himself several times before grabbing onto her arm to pull her away, but in a swift movement she’d gone for one of her hidden weapons and shoved him into the wall, knife at his throat.
“That’s quite enough Xenosa… Leave the man alone, he’s done nothing wrong.” Her mother’s voice was small.
Turning towards her mother, Xen pushed away from the servant and turned towards her family once more.
“Imauna, how dare you bring that filth into our home!” The man’s voice rang with anger.
“If you’re going to discuss me then I may as well be invited, especially considering that I’ve never even been to the family home.” Xenosa hide the weapon within the folds of her clothing once more and advanced on the family.
“I think you’ve kept me in the closet long enough don’t you think? If you’re going to talk about me then you may as well have me here, am I such disgust to the family that you people chose my destiny? Well let me tell you something, I’ve already picked my destiny. I’ve already been shaping my future no thanks to any of you! If you think I was going to keep living with that monster while I am shoved and thrown around, you’ve got something coming. I’m leaving Oaia’s home soon, I’ve already gone to our leader and declared my choice! Unlike you people who hide behind books, I’ll fight. You won’t have to be burdened by me anymore, but I’ll never let you forget who I am. Even when I am gone, I will rise to glory and shame all of you!”
Turning sharply, Xenosa left her family with bewildered looks.

A AF T E R M A T H Well this was a change in events… I don't know how I feel about the whole thing. Oh wait I do, I am seething rage that now we are all supposedly considered equals and that the war is officially over. Over and done with. I am beyond irritated and angry at that fact; I had been looking forward to fighting alongside others against the Obliviontes.

C A P T U R I N G T H E V L I D E A N Why in the world Daesat would want me to capture such a foul beast I have no idea. But I am more that irritated with the fact that I will have to continue to try and capture one. I would like an egg since they would be quite easier to train once they hatched, I will try once more at another time.

C A V E O F D R A G O NS And here I was thinking that I’d be able to slay a few dragons in a cave and come back with my pockets and hands full of rewards. Boy was I wrong, couldn’t even get past the first dragon because the nerves got to me. Daesat thought my stories of my adventures were funny, at least she takes my defeat with a chuckle…
