The girl remained smiling, occasionally bobbing her head up and down as he spoke. His name was long, and she was pretty sure there were 4 distinct names amidst the pile. Something had to be a middle name or something along those lines. She tied the ribbon she had cut before, this time having to reach up above her to a higher branch.
The question of names was always answered carefully. She had offered the answer to his question earlier, but he might have misunderstood. It wasn't everyday that folks went by odd words as if that was their namesake.
"I go by Mystery. Mystery Wylde. Do you always go by all your names, or do you go by any nicknames? Danny, Dan, maybe your middle name?" She tugged at the edges of her newly made bow, confirming that she was now at ribbon 27!
With the new number of ribbons in the tree, she stretched out another piece of yellow, preparing to snip it off once it was long enough. She was apparently able to multitask the whole notion of decorating and having a conversation. "So what sorts of food do you and your Papa make? What sorts of spicy foods? What is the Scoville rating for the spicy foods you guys make?"

"Dan is okay." He was... Hoinestly processing a lot, but it happened. He thought carefully.
"Papa lets me help make tortillas, and tamales, and some other stuff, like enchiladas." He was quiet a moment as he contemplated. "I like a lot of chiles, but my favorite is a Habanero." He smiled. Mmm. Spicy food was good, even when he burned his mouth. "What's Scoville?"

With a snip-snip here, she soon enough was thrusting another ribbon at her companion.
"Scoville... if I am remembering this right... is the official score that foods get when it comes to how spicy they are..." She had only heard about the term thanks to one of the girls mentioning it during an appointment with Mom. The term was so niftricular* that she had to ask about it and learn whatever she could about its meaning.
"I don't eat spicy food usually... except spicy tuna on occasion... but spicy tuna isn't my favorite. If I remember right, Jalapenos are under 10,000 when it comes to the Scoville score... but the girl I heard about this from had a boyfriend who liked to eat the really spicy stuff. I think she mentioned he was looking for all the hot sauces he could find that were above 1,000,000 in Scoville score."
She tapped the edge of her scissors to her chin, avoiding any sort of potential cuts from blade-to-face contact, but after that she shrugged and set the scissors back down in her lap. "I don't remember the score for Habanero though... sorry...."

"Daniel cheerfully began to tie the ribbon, blinking.
"Spicy food is really good." He grinned. "I never heard of the Scoville stuff, but I know habeneros are very hot."
THAT he did know, since few children would touch his food at school finding the spicy peppers in his bag.
"That's cool, though. I wonder when they'll teach us that in school." He mused, adjusting his bow. It was like preparing for the Day of the Dead or another holiday. Lots of fun things to do!

The girl laughed a bit.
"I'm pretty sure the public school system doesn't teach that sort of stuff. Pretty sure it wouldn't be on any of the standardized tests or anything, so why bother learning about it?" She shrugged slightly before adding "...that is... unless a teacher was a big fan of Scoville and peppers... then maybe the teacher would implement it into the curriculum... but Mom said they don't really teach that sort of stuff at public school."
She began to kick her feet, forward and back, as she once more resumed cutting ribbons. "So what grade are you in, Dan?..."
And it just so happened at that very moment one of her shoes came off and soon enough had fallen down to the ground below approximately short of 10 feet away from the tree (thanks to a decent kick of the leg).
"Oh Flaberwakies*!" She stopped kicking her feet the moment the shoe was no longer on her foot.

"Awwww, that's no fair." Danial pouted. Food facts were best facts, after all, and he loved learning them. "Papa said he learned about food in school."
Maybe it was a Mexican school thing? Probably not. He huffed.
"Grownups are mean sometimes."
Why hold out on such important lessons? When she asked her second question, he thought.
"Hmmm, weeeeell, I'll be in Fifth grade in fall and I'm Fou--"
And one well aimed kick sent the shoe flying. Daniel watched it land, visibly impressed by her kick-- so good! But now, now her shoe was gone. Not so good. The boy scurried out of his perch quickly.
"I can get it!" He ran and knelt, scooping it up gently in his hands and returned, carefully climbing back up and offered it to Mystery with a smile.
"One shoe!"

As her companion rushed to get her shoe, the girl leaned forward, just watching rather than working as he seemed to be doing her a favor. While they were distanced, she saw no issue in still talking.
"I'm technically 6th grade right now... might be able to start doing 7th grade curriculum soon though. Mom tells me to not rush through all my schooling stuff... but I don't think I am. She tells me I am, but I don't think I am... so I'm not... I think?"
She leaned outwards as he looped about to snatch up her shoe, then as he swung back in, she leaned back in closer to the base of the tree.
"Did you eat a bunch of sugar before coming to the park today? I mean, you did that pretty fast, Dan!" She continued to watch him until he soon enough was offering her back the shoe. "Then again... Mom said that whole sugar-thing is just a myth. Caffeine... now that one isn't a myth so much!"
Plucking the shoe out of his hand, she then fidgeted into a position where she could put on the shoe, but more importantly, do such without falling out of the tree. "It's amazing how so many adults become such zombie-slaves to the thing that is caffeine. Mom can't get started any day without at least one cup of black coffee."

"I run a lot." Daniel grinned. "I need to be fast in soccer."
Upon returning her shoe, the young boy climbed onto the tree again, sitting.
"Papa drinks a lot of coffee. It helps him work better at the Bistro." He nodded.
((*Sobs and apologizes for taking so long*))

The girl didn't skip a beat in the conversation. "Your Papa works in a Bistro? Where in the Bistro? Do they give him free coffee when he's working? Do you get free stuff when he's working? Does he have to dress up fancy for work?"
She scratched her chin before resuming with the ribbon cutting and tying as she waited for some answers.

"Papa owns it so he works as the head chef." Daniel smiled. "My brother works too, and I get to eat there sometimes if I'm doing homework. Papa makes lots of good food and has some other employees in the kitchen. I think they wear white with big puffy hats, so that might be fancy."
Daniel thought.
"Papa makes a lot of Mexican food, but a lot of it is from all over instead of one area, because he grew up in Mexico City. They have a lot of yummy street carts with food!"
Daniel beamed. He loved talking about food, and watched Mystery, somewhat more attentively so she wouldn't fall or lose her shoe again.

" So...... no free coffee?" she ventured to guess. If Dan's dad owned the establishment, that meant nothing was really free, since he had to pay for the supplies and what-not. With the bottom of her scissors, she scratched at her chin delicately before seeming to shrug off the matter as not really that important. Certainly, there were more topics to talk about, but soon enough an odd ring tone that had as many nonsensical words as Mystery. "Who put the bomp In the bomp bah bomp bah bomp Who put the ram In the rama lama ding dong" " Oh, that's me!" Reaching into a pocket from her capris, she pulled out an iPhone. " Hullofericerous* Mom!.......oh..... really?...... oh, okay! See you in 15 minutes!" When the call ended, the silvery haired girl started to gather her things. " My mom said she needed me to head home... so I guess I will have to finish this another day!"

Daniel nodded, offering Mystery help down.
"Okay. Maybe I should work on getting home as well, before I get in trouble." He thought, and smiled awkwardly.
"I had fun today. We should talk again!"

Once she had her supplies gathered and safely tucked away, the girl shook her head from side to side, seeming to decline her new friend's assistance. She had apparently been quite adept at climbing up, and now she was going to be able to get down. Wrapping her fingers about the branch she had been on, she swung down so her body was dangling off, then let go so she could land on her feet.
Once she was beside him, she replied to his comment. "Of course! Maybe even play a bit too!" With that, she waved both hands at him before seeming to skip off.
She only had about 12 minutes to get home now, so she needed to scoot-a-loo!
