Natron actually winced at the pitch of the Senshi's scream when Painite drove her spear into the girl's leg. He turned to his General and gave her a nod of thanks.
"I appreciate your consideration," he said, "I'd hate for her to try and run away when it was just getting interesting." Chasing her down again would've just bene a pain in the a**. He turned his attention back to the girl on the ground.
"Now, what the hell was the point of that?" He growled. With her pinned and helpless and still shrieking he was about ready to end things.
"Please, please don't kill me," she pleaded, and he sighed.
"It's either begging or crying in the end. None of you idiots ever die well," he said, and then he bent down and grabbed the ridiculous bow on the front of her outfit. What was the point of those, other than to provide a good hold to the enemy?
His hand sank into her chest and she resumed screaming and sobbing and pleading. "No no no no no," she repeated, until his and wrapped around her starseed and he yanked it out and she finally fell silent. He dropped her listless body back on the ground and turned, holding up the seed for Painite to see. Certainly the general had guaranteed his victory, but it was still his kill, in the end. Another for the small wooden box he kept in his bedroom at home.

Painite smiled at him and watched him with a proud look on her face that did not really fit with the terrible situation at hand. But from her perspective, he was doing everything right, and she was delighted to see how willing he was. She had set it up to be as uncomfortable for him as she could manage, to push any sense of pity he might be feeling for the other side.
She watched the senshi scream and beg, smiling and closing her eyes to listen to it for a moment before it stopped. She opened her eyes slowly, looking at the starseed now and smiling at how pretty it was. Such a small thing, but it was a very important and beautiful display of power.
When it was nestled in the palm of a Nega soldier's hand.
She called her spear back to her, though she let it vanish after a moment since she did not need it.
"That's a beautiful little prize. It makes me wish I knew where more senshi and knights patrol. I like to leave them where they can find them, to know how they're failing so badly at their jobs." She laughed. "But you did a very good job. No hesitation, no pity. Excellent."

With the Senshi dead, Natron desummoned his weapon. He frowned down at the Senshi's body and closed his hand around her starseed. It hadn't been a fair fight, but that was what was necessary. One on one, she might have had magic that would give her an upper hand. He teleported over to Painite, and tilted his head to the side.
"You know, that would be nice, to send them a message that way. Perhaps next time I go out, I'll bring a starseed or two with me, just to show to whoever I encounter..." And of course for emergency energy and healing, but more for the purposes of taunting and demoralizing his enemy. Winning with psychological warfare was just as important as killing or converting each and every Senshi and Knight.
"What was there to pity? She was disgusting, pathetic." Natron shook his head. "Alright, maybe I pitied her a little - but she clearly needed to be put out of her misery."

Painite chuckled, nodding her head and looking gleeful. She was very happy with him, and with the way the night had gone. A good hunt always improved her mood, and she was certainly in need of that tonight.
He was always good at making her feel better, whether he realized it or not. It was his potential and his ability to live up to the tasks she set for him. He was not a disappointment, as so many had been before him.
"As long as you get the job done in the end, I don't care if you pity them a little. I don't agree with it, of course, as they're all pathetic, but hey. You're a good soldier, Natron, you know that? It's always an honor to train with you, and I'm very glad to see the way you've progressed. I only look forward to more from you, and I know you won't disappoint."
She smiled, as she meant it.

Natron lit up like a child at Christmas. Praise was always wonderful, but praise from Painite, who he admired so highly? It was all he could ask for. Especially such high praise.
"I hope I don't ever disappoint you in the future," he said, and of course he never intended to. Being praised inspired him to work harder, in order to continue to be worthy of it. There was nothing, for him, quite like hearing that he'd done well.
And perhaps he was extra-desperate for praise as his situation at home became worse, and his parents' approval vanished. After all, the people that mattered, that understood - they knew he was doing well. What did the opinions of ignorant civilians mean next to that?

"You never will," Painite said with a grin.
And she felt like that was more than a little true. She smiled at him and she pat his shoulder affectionately. He was one in a million to her, and she found that she cared about him, loved him in her way. She had not been able to say that of anyone, not been willing to say that, for some time. There was a difference between caring about her compatriots and really caring about an individual.
It was a little more personal, a little more dangerous. It left her vulnerable in a way she no longer tolerated, after being betrayed before. But she could understand that this was different, and this was good.
"Alright, I think we can wrap things up for tonight. Go home and relax, do something fun, eh? Back to the grind tomorrow, of course."
