She breathed a sigh or relief. "Okay, good, awesome. I wasn't in the mood for roast wiener."
Pause.
"'Cause you guys were having a measuring contest and all, so they were metaphorically out of your pants and therefore targetable."
Pause.
"I mean, my fire thing wasn't metaphorical, it was literal, and I wasn't aiming down there or anything I promise, but you can mix those up sometimes to make a good joke, which I just did . . . right? Guys like those sort of jokes?"
More pause.
". . . I think I did it wrong," she mused with a small frown, picking up the greatsword before it sagged further. Shrugging it off, she turned to Tuck and charged, wondering if she could bat his ax away with a diagonal chop. But the clang reverberated down her arms and her weapon bounced back. Thane pointed out if she hadn't stopped to make the joke, she would have broken through that defense as well, but his criticism was for the moment left at the back of her mind.
"Solid, bro!" Stormy cheered, trying out the slang with a smile. "I only caught you off guard 'cause I had the charge behind my swing last time."

Evan looked up from examining the smoldering holes in his shirt as Stormy started talking. His eyebrows slowly rose with each misspoken word, his jaw clenching tight as he fought back the urge to laugh. She was trying so hard and it was cuter than a basketful of puppies and kittens--if puppies and kittens were trying to bond with their newly adopted brothers using poor genitalia-related metaphors--but she was really probably better off sticking to her Disney.
He had to clear his throat a few times before he could even attempt a response. "That was, uh." Awful(ly amusing). Terribl(y funny). Horrendously out of place coming from such a nice kid. "Good try," he offered. "Don't get too complacent, though; keep up your attack." Then he proceeded to demonstrate attack on Tuck.

"O-oh my God," Tuck sounded like something was strangling him, and he just decided not to respond at all to what Stormy was saying. Was she really saying what he thought she was saying?
Yes, yes she was.
What the ******** did he say?
"I don't think dudes like 'hey your d**k is on fire' jokes if that's what you were aiming for, Stormy."
Stay classy, bro.
Herryk's runes glowed brighter and brighter until a shield formed around the large man, and he gave Evan a triumphant grin that said and you thought I had performance anxiety.
