Well, that didn't go as planned. At least now he didn't have to hide his lingering grumpiness by flirting with Gnat, not that that had been a bad thing by any means. "I can't go back to sleep, now that your dumb a** woke me up." He grumbled as he pushed his way into the kitchen. "I'll make your goddamn french toast, but I don't want to hear any bitching about having to do the dishes later."

Gnat squinted at Tuck before following Evan.
"French toast!" She exclaimed gleefully, clapping her hands together.
The sweet taste of powdered victory.

"Gnat's doin' dishes, we made a deal."
Actually he'd kind of told her she was doing them, and since he was the oldest, that meant something.
"Is there bacon? Can we have bacon? n' hashbrowns, again? I'll even cut 'em up. Peel 'em. Whatever."

/I want french toast too yayyyy--/
You don't eat food.
/Aw./
"Oho no," Evan said. "You woke me up, you can wash the dishes. And if you want potatoes, you better start peeling." Eggs, butter, fortunately there was some actual half-and-half. Evan debated leaving it for people to use for coffee, but it's not like it would make the coffee any better. "Looks like there's turkey bacon, whatever the hell that is."

Gnat grabbed a couple eggs.
Tried to juggle.
"Oops." She stared glumly at the mess on the counter before digging around for paper towels.

He wanted to whine. He wanted to whine so bad. But french toast and bacon and hashbrowns and whatever other magic that Evan managed to whip up far outweighed having to do dishes.
Mostly.
"Gnat, peel some potatoes since you ain't have to do dishes. All you're doin' is makin' a mess. You don't even know how to juggle."

Evan wanted to insist that Tuck peel the potatoes, too, just to make him suffer a little bit more, but he also wanted to have some eggs left to make the french toast with. Besides, "You can grate them when she's done peeling them," was much worse. Evan checked the cabinets and quietly thanked God for those blessed souls who actually baked around here as he pulled out vanilla, cinnamon, and honey. "Powdered sugar or brown sugar syrup?"

"Powdered!"
Gnat abandoned her mess of egg and paper towels to start searching for a potato peeler.

"I don't care, just make sure I get more bacon'n she does," Tuck grunted, pointing at the drawer where the peelers were kept.
He then finished cleaning up the mess his sister had made before leaning against the counter, sending Evan a very sorry look.
"I didn't think you'd be sleepin', man - I'm real sorry. I know... well. Sleep don't always come easy."
Or at all.

"Good answer," Evan replied. That would be one less thing to cook. He grabbed the powdered sugar from the cabinet before getting out bowls and pans and the other various utensils he would need.
He was in the process of beating some eggs maybe a little harder than necessary when Tuck approached him. Evan gave him a long, considering look, his eyes still narrowed in irritation. More than anyone else, Tuck would know that a good night's sleep wasn't a luxury that people like them were often afforded even before their lives had turned into Dungeons & Dragons. He would know the value of it, and the cost of going without it. It would have been easy to stay mad at him, but for that.
Evan nodded curtly at Tuck's apology before turning his attention back to the eggs. "You're still doing the dishes," he grumbled.

Gnat let them have their guy moment, and started sloppily peeling potatoes.

"I know, I know. I'm still doin' the dishes."
Tuck pulled out a bowl and dug around for a grater.
"Hate grating s**t. Always ******** up my knuckles."

Gnat's stomach rumbled, and she peeled faster.
"This is hard. I only ever made the instant s**t."

Tuck started grating potatoes as fast as Gnat was peeling them.
"Better you than me. I hate peelin' potatoes."
He fell silent for a moment.
"You gonna hit the training field with me n' my pain in the a** sister when we done eatin', Evan?"
