By the time Mao came back Mitsukai had been completely absorbed in the world of her cell phone. It wasn't like she really needed to watch the new doctor clean up Javor's mess. Absorbed as she was, she couldn't ignore the sound of the bucket being kicked aside and the loud crack that followed. She quickly sat up, setting her phone down. Mao hadn't caught her slacking off had he? She looked to the ground where the sound came from, seeing Desiree's body lying on the floor. "What? You're not blaming this on me," after all, she had done literally nothing this whole time, and what did she care if there were other female workers? It didn’t bother her. Mei had probably just taken off or something, and while she hadn’t witnessed it, Mitsukai was sure that Mao was the one who kicked the bucket in Desiree’s way. She almost pointed the latter out, but she held back, it wasn't good to blame one's boss and she wanted to keep her job. Really though, if the blame had to be placed on anyone, it probably was the woman's own fault. Those heels really weren't safe to be wearing around the clinic. That aside, they probably should check to see if the doctor was alright, "Do you think she's okay?" she asked. She really didn't need Mao blaming Desiree's death on her. She didn’t want to end up in jail after he called the police! Maybe the doctor was injured really badly and they could send her off to an actual hospital somewhere far far away. It could be one of those hospitals in the city where everyone wore heels. Yes, Desiree was sure to feel at home at a place like that! Maybe they'd even offer her a job there after her recovery! Then Mitsukai wouldn't have to worry about jail either. It'd be great for the both of them!

Javor watched with great interest as Desiree fell. Mao had told him to watch her and Javor really hadn't been planning on it but that was quite a graceful arc she traced in the air as she fell in a rather magnificent fashion. Even while falling, she was attractive (if one discounted the look on her face). At any rate, that should have been foreseen with those pointy sticks she was trying to walk around on--honestly, such shoes were intriguing but why women attempted to walk on glorified chopsticks was far beyond his ability comprehend. Still, even after she fell, he made no move to try to help her up or see if she was alive still. He did, however, take his mop in hand so he could give her a good poke with the handle, which was almost the same thing. Unfortunately, she didn't move or make a sound.

Hmm. Perhaps she was dead. It would explain the crack as her face hit the floor.

As Mao began to speak, Javor gave Mitsukai a very disappointed look. "Did you really kill her from jealousy?" He shook his head. "How discouraging--there was not much to be jealous of." He gave Mitsukai an encouraging smile, which might have looked more encouraging and less horrifying if he'd taken time to wash the red streaks off off his face and clothes. "I much prefer you, my dear," he assured her. And it was true. She was, after all, fun to tease.

Looking at Desiree, he sighed, wondering if he was going to have to finish cleaning, now. "Well. I suppose what is done is done. We should dispose of her properly...." He wondered if there was a heavy duty saw somewhere in the clinic.

"Though the dumpster seems appropriate for someone like her, I suppose my roses do need more fertilizer..." Ah. But it was a little cruel to simply chop her up and use her to fertilize the roses. Mao had hired her after all--he probably had some sort of attachment. Javor set the broom down and knelt carefully beside Desiree. He gently pulled off the disturbingly tall heels and handed them almost reverently to Mao. "I'm sure you wish to keep these to remember her by, yes?"

And if not, well, they'd probably make great weapons...

Mao rolled his eyes at his nurse, "Remind me, why did I hire you again, Nurse Yoshiko?" He drawled as he watched Dr. Karel prod the body in the most professional manner he could have hoped. ...Well, at least it was better than how the redhead was behaving. "Of course she is -- ah." The man looked up at the ceiling for a moment - no, wait. Mitsukai hadn't been properly broken in yet, he couldn't trust she wouldn't say something once she left the clinic.. He was serious when he said he didn't want the bad publicity, so he couldn't risk some dirty halfie girl to not rat out on him. "..She is alive. What are you standing around for, nurse? Shouldn't you be preparing a room for her before she really is dead? I didn't think I hired a murderer." He snapped and waved his arms to direct her back to one of the empty rooms before looking down at the doctor. Now, him..

He was about to get the doctor to leave as well so he could dispose the body in private when something magical happened. Kneeling before him, Dr. Karel presented him a gift. He took the shoes carefully and examined them - yes, he rather liked them. In fact, he liked getting a present period. He nodded to the man in approval as he set the shoes on the front desk. Yes, he could trust him. "Now, disposing of a living person is uncouth, Dr. Karel. We should bring her to the back before we send her on her way." Plus, Mao had a few theories that required some pancreas and it would be nice to stock up on whatever blood type Dr. Loxx was. He would have to check his files.

"I didn't kill her, oh my goodness," Mitsukai responded to Javor, obviously frustrated with her co-workers giving her the blame. Why would they think she was jealous anyway? She didn't even know the woman, and like Javor had just told her, there didn't really seem much to be jealous of. She supposed in different circumstances it could've been flattering to hear that she was preferred over the doctor woman, but right now they didn't even know if she was okay, also, Javor kind of creeped her out.

"We don't even know if she's dead yet, what do you mean we should dispose of her?" Mitsukai protested. She looked to Mao, hoping to hear the woman was okay, only to see him rolling his eyes. Remind me, why I applied was all she could think in response to his statement, and again she held her tongue, knowing better than to talk back to the man. If only there were other nursing positions open in Nirvani. Her thoughts were disrupted by Mao announcing that the woman was alive and okay, which was definitely a relief. "See, she's alright," Mitsukai said to Javor, in a rather "I told you so" tone. She then sighed in response to her boss, quietly turning around to go set up one of the empty rooms. At least she wouldn't have them accusing her of murder while she went off to go do that, at least not to her face anyway.

It wasn't in Eva's habit to be late for work, unlike her boyfriend Quentin, who was also late. She had a good reason, however. She had spent all morning looking for a couple of butlers to take care of her home, but to no avail. To make matters worse, her watch watch was broken and by the time she had noticed it, she was already late! Because of that, she didn't have much time to get ready. She had barely the time to put her hair in a stylish up-do bun and put on a red pencil skirt that seem to bring out the curves of her hips perfectly, yet still retaining a professional appear. Her white blouse reached her elbows and ruffled where her breasts were, fitting around her flat stomach where no extravagant belly button piercing was, because only whores and young woman with daddy issues wore those.

The first thing she noticed when she entered the clinic was not the dead body on the floor. After working on the island for more than ten years, she was so used to dead bodies that they were all part of the furniture at that point. No, what she saw was Mao holding a pair of stilettos, not much unlike those she was wearing at that very moment. She walked toward the tiny man, her long silky legs bringing her on top of Desire's dead body for a second as she stepped over it, before reaching the rest of the staff. Only then did she realized that it was an actual body and not just a bump in the carpeting. She took a mental note to force everyone present in group therapy later on, but for now, she had a Chinese man to deal with. "Mao, did your foot fetish evolved into collecting female shoes, or did you take on a new hobby as a drag queen? I think this is great progress for your personal development if this is what is happening." Considering how misogynistic the man was, trying on drag could only be a sign of progress.

She then turned her attention on the rest of the staff who were all gathered there for a change. Well, minus her boyfriend, but that was nothing special. "Good morning, Javor. Mitsukai." She walked toward a random floor cabinet, kicked it open. "And you too, Mei." She didn't bothered checking if the secretary was actually there, but where else could she be, really? Kidnapped? Who would care that much about Mei. "Now, can someone please explain to me why we have two mops? I'm starting to think that someone has a phallic complex. " She gave a quick glare toward Mao so that Javor knew she wasn't referring to him. No, that man had other complexes that she would address later on.

"No, I'm fairly certain she is dead," Javor said. "But it is alright. She has confessed to me, previously, that upon her inevitable demise, she wished to donate her body to the clinic. To be honest, I believe it was suicide." He nodded solemnly because honestly, why else would someone who would be on her feet nearly all day, wear those kinds of shoes? It was either a bizarre form of self harm, or a suicide attempt. And since she appeared to have broken her neck, he was simply choosing the latter.

The bit about donating her body was a complete lie though. But he was sure it was what she would have wanted. Probably.

Then Eva entered. She was quite tall. She even put the Amazon to shame. She was like a double strength Amazon, or just an outright giant. He was temporarily distracted, trying to figure out if there were any men on the island who would be impressed by such a large woman, but it occurred to him Eva might, in fact, be a man. It would explain the height. Desiree was probably one as well. That explained the shoes. They were trying to compensate for their over all lack of femininity with those ridiculous high heels.

Ah. He'd figured it out, no doubt.

Javor was broken from his thoughts when Eva asked about the mops and he blinked at her, slowly remembering where he was and what they'd been talking about. "Ah, yes. I do not know why there are two. I believe Desiree may have ridden one here. Not every witch can find a good broom, I think."

Mao watched Nurse Yoshiko leave to the back room with a withheld sigh of relief, especially since Javor had apparently been moments away from refuting what he had said. He was beginning to believe his relationship with the only male doctor they had wouldn't be pleasant at all. Well, only male doctor who had been present enough to be considered one of his staff members. In fact, Quentin, Eva, and even Mei were missing! Perhaps he should alert the authorities if someone was offing the staff at his clinic – he may be next! Plus, he could probably toss Desiree's death onto whoever was killing his employees and come off clean! It was the only sure way to not get arrested in this town, what with who the sheriff was.

He was just about to make that phone call to the police when Eva had entered the clinic. Damn, everything sounded better in threes. He couldn't possibly think the police would believe a serial killer with only two deaths! Plus, he was certain Eva knew where Quentin was and wouldn't play along with the scheme at all. It looked like he would just have to dispose of Desiree some other way. “No, it is for my nephew.” He replied as he looked up at the woman – attractive, yes, but much too tall and she didn't insult anyone's intelligence enough for him. Simply ran around throwing disorders at people, but at least she sold the psychiatric drugs in a legal fashion.

He was prepared to leave right there before she began trying to force everyone into some annoying group session out of boredom, but then Javor had to open his wonderful maw. Mao couldn't help a small chuckle at what the man said – no, he was still enjoying this doctor. He had finally found someone on his staff with a sense of humor, how could he hate that? Personal conclusions aside, Mao had decided to shoo Eva back to work and moved on to finish what needed to be done with Desiree Loxx, ex-doctor-impersonating-hooker of Nirvani Island.

Tshila was not having a good week. She was sick! She, of all people! It was horrible. It wasn't that she felt just completely awful but she was just kind of gross feeling and she was stuck at home because she was potentially contagious and there was a party going on and she couldn't go and it was the perfect chance to meet people (and possibly see a potentially prospective romantic interest...person) and she was stuck at home watching scary movies to comfort herself.

Except she kind of freaked herself out a bit and was scared to stay in her apartment alone because she was pretty sure a scary lady was going to come out of the drain in the bathroom and tear her head off and turn it into a soup bowl, which would really just be completely horrific. Especially since she was also convinced there were zombies in the closet...

So she soon found herself at the health clinic because it was really the only place she could reasonably go to be around people, without having to feel guilty for contaminating the place with her germs. Since it was kind of, you know, dark and scary outside, she'd sort of run to the place as fast as she could just in case the zombies from the closet were chasing her...

So when she burst in through the door, she was out of breath and about ready to keel over because jogging while sick was definitely not smart. But at least she was in a well lit, safe place....unless the zombies had gotten there first.

"Um...hello??"

As much as Alfred would have liked to have spent New Years with his family, he was going to have to skip out on that and head straight to the clinic. Who was he kidding? He was kind of glad to have been sick, so that he could finally have a break from housework and seeing his siblings’ faces. He loved them and all, but seriously, he needed some time off. The only downside is that he wasn’t exactly healthy enough to enjoy his vacation. That was exactly why he was heading to the clinic because there was no way he was staring home by himself, especially since he was tired of being stuck at at his house for so long. Plus… he kind of needed some ointment for the skin rash on his hands. Yeah, baking wasn’t exactly possible for him to do, and that was pretty much his hobby here.

He entered the clinic, his eyes landing on the blonde woman who looked ready to flop in front of him, and immediately was about to steer her over to a chair or something to rest on. Of course, he had to pause because…. rash and sickness. Instead, Alfred gently suggested. “Hey, you should probably sit down. You look ready to collapse, and the floor isn’t the best place to knock out on. I’ll go get someone for you.”

Tshila was waiting for someone to come out from the back room or whatever. She wasn't really paying attention to what was going on behind her because she was standing in the wait room sort of wringing her hands frantically. So she didn't hear Alfred come in at all. Not until he spoke to her from right behind her and nearly scared the life out of her. (Seriously, she nearly wet herself).

"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH---zombie!!"
Whirling around with a loud yelp, Tshila brought both hands up, ready to karate chop her assailant in the face, then jump on his back and squeeze his torso with her legs until she broke his ribs. She was about three seconds from hitting Alfred when she realized that he was not a zombie.

He looked just kind of like a sick person. Like her. Except taller and more manly. "Oh...Lord..." she wheezed, sinking to the floor, clutching her heart. "You totally scared the crap out of me! But like, not literally, cause, you know, ew. But yeah, totally scared me, like, a lot!"

In the room reserved solely for himself, Mao Xiqui was conducting an experiment – cue the lightning strike and mad cackling! ..Okay, no, Mao was just sitting by himself on New Year's Eve, staring at the ceiling and wondering what it would take to have another joyful comatose patient in his clinic so he could have at least a mildly social party rather than the pathetic one he was holding with himself and what appeared to be a jar of spleens? Rat spleens? He thought he ran out of those. Huh. In any case, the jar was properly decked out with a brightly colored party hat, similar in color and theme to the crown on Mao's head as he considered actually using the fireworks he had splurged on at the general store. Really, the place was a bit too convenient.. Mao was a little suspicious, but, then again, he didn't care enough to really find anything out. He only cared about his dead social life, which really shouldn't matter considering he did have a successful clinic and a secretary probably sleeping in the vents somewhere. He considered turning off the heating just to be nice, but then he did want her out so he could force her into a game of table tennis, so..

Ah?” His head turned as he heard the shriek from the front of the clinic, glee filling his expression as he fetched the party hats and fireworks so he could casually stroll out into the waiting room to greet whoever had decided to drop by. Perhaps Mei had been flushed out? Or maybe Zhi had come by with her family so he could show them the same disdain he did every year? Or Freja! Freja and Xochiquetzal, hoping for a tongue lashing to end the year on! He stopped at the end of the hall and found two individuals he didn't recognize at all. Or he had patients who needed to justify why he was holed up alone in the clinic. Right. “Hello, welcome to my clinic. Can I interest you in an injection? I'm very good at finding a vein.” He added hopefully as he started to approach the two, looking them over lazily. Maybe he could get them doped up enough to be decent party guests.

He didn’t flinch. He didn’t bat an eye. Instead, he froze, certain that his heart had permanently stopped and that his soul flew straight for the afterlife. Fortunately, his soul crashed and landed back into his body, where his heart was back to racing miles and his ears were still ringing. ******** hell. It took a few blank blinks for him to gather his bearings, and even then, Alfred could only manage to croak out with a forced smile. “Sorry about that. Didn’t mean to give you such a fright. If it helps, you got me pretty good too.” No harm was done except to his poor heart. Other than that, he was fine. He could handle it. For some odd reason, his heart couldn’t, but that was okay since an older man just came by.

Alfred shook his head at the man’s offer, releasing a small breath of tension, before saying. “No thank you. I’m actually just here for something for my hands. It’s a bit hard to cook with a rash on my hands. I have a case of um… HFMD? I think that’s what it’s called anyway.”

The other guy seemed kind of scared and Tshila's fever was increasing or something because suddenly nothing made sense and she was kind of dizzy and half delirious with fear of zombies or something, so when the doctor came in the room and offered to take blood, Tshila nearly tackled him to the ground. She wasn't really thinking about what she was saying as she clung to him in a near panic.

"Ohmygosh, like I'm kind of sick and I was at my apartment and I was watching scary movies but they were so scary and then I thought a woman was going to come out of the drain and turn my head into a bowl so I decided that I should come to the doctor because I'm sick and things and I really need to be around people who aren't dead and coming out of drains and who aren't going to scoop out my brains and use my skull as a container for something, you know, not my brain so I ran to the clinic but there were totally zombies following me, or I mean, I kind of thought that even though I know there weren't any but I ran the whole time and I got here and I completely felt like passing out and then the guy over there came and scared me, which is totally not his fault because he didn't realize I'd been watching way too many horror movies, but my heart pretty much tried to jump out my throat and now I feel like, really horrible and I think I'm going to pass out or start hyperventilating but please don't give me a shot because I'm totally not cool with needles!"

Tshila took a few quick panting breaths. "I think I need to sit down because I'm pretty sure my fever's gone up. My eyes kind of feel like they're boiling," she informed Mao because her legs were kind of wobbly and the only thing really holding her up was the fact that she'd attached herself to him like some sort of limpet.

Wait. "You are the doctor, right?"

HFMD? ….Did the girl have it too? He crinkled his nose as he glanced at the blonde clinging to him, blabbering on about zombies and whatnot. She better not be getting any of her fluids on his clothes; he liked his clothes. But, she was rather attractive and it had been so long since he had anyone throwing themselves at him. 'So long' as in 'never' because Mao always gave off the same vibes of a poisonous dart frog and porcupine hybrid, even in his youth. In any case, he decided to allow the moron to continue whatever she was doing, keeping his bare hands up so he didn't accidentally touch a blister.

I see.” He drawled in response to her, not bothering to hide the judging tone he always got around those so wimpy they got squeamish around a little needle. He had half a mind to forgo asking anyone in the first place and just use his blowgun on patients instead, but then a different sort of pestilence came to mind.

He looked shocked as he raised his eyes to the man, “Are you certain it is HFMD? There are quite a few diseases that mimic it. In fact, one new variant that has been going around on this island can be mistaken for it.. Starts with a fever, a rash appears a few days after, and then a sudden affinity for.. anthropophagy.” He paused dramatically and lowered his voice for the girl to hear it, “Cannibalism.” He waited a beat before brandishing the party hats to them both, “Would anyone like a hat? It's ideal to celebrate the new year with a hat.

Alfred swore he must have blanked out for a moment. There seemed to have been a gap in his memory. One moment, he was following along with the woman’s story, and then the next, it had ended with him having no recollection of it whatsoever. Then again, he probably just wasn’t paying attention and was trying to be nice about it. Either way, he had to raise a brow in amusement when the man decided to poke fun at the poor delusional woman. What could he say? He had to join in, especially since he was practically scared out of skin not too long ago. “I’m pretty sure about myself. Haven’t had any cravings for meat, and I doubt I ever will. I can’t say the same for others though.” He glanced over at the woman to emphasize his point.

“Well, sure.” He shrugged, accepting the hat with good humor. Hey, there were spending New Years at a clinic, so they might as well enjoy themselves. Delusional. Sick. Eh. It didn’t matter. “Now would be a great time to bust out the fireworks and beer don’t you think?”
