“NO!” Izzy barked out at the woman with a little more force than what was necessary. The first step was denial. "I am not crying." Definitely not! Those were just water leaks that managed to rupture out her eyeballs due to things. Yes! Magical things. Of course, she might have had overheard the dude whisper something that wasn’t cool at all. Anger was the next step for her. “Hey, hey! Excuse me? I can hear you! I’m right in front of you, and I’ll have you know that I tried. I tried so hard, and I can take care of myself. All by myself!” She huffed, balling her hands into tight fists.

While she was still pissed, Izzy ended up transitioning into her own special stage, where she didn’t feel as awesome as she usually felt. “Do you know how hard it is when you don’t have any tits or clothes? Mainly tits!? And a good a**!? Not everyone can go through an amazing puberty and look like Lady Sex-on-Legs over there okay? Yeesh.”

Yuri couldn't blame Izzy for denying that she was crying. She would have done the same thing when she was that age. ...Whatever age this girl was. Maybe Yuri would be more sympathetic, now that she felt a connection -- whoop, nope, this guy had addressed her, all of her focus was back on herself. "I'm fine, I'm fine, just got stood up, but I'm fine." Ah, here came the pang of guilt. Yuri glanced back over at Izzy as Sethrian talked about buying this girl clothes or food or some other nice s**t or something. Jeez, that was such a nice guy thing to do, and what was she doing to help? Absolutely nothing, that's what. She was even still sitting for chrissake. Deciding that that was a place to start, she pulled herself to her feet, and was about to say something nice back, when the girl went off. Yuri mostly hung out with Junior, it had been a while since she had heard someone rant like that.

For a moment, she was speechless. What did you say to something like that? Especially since Izzy was definitely referring to her when she said Lady Sex-on-Legs (obvs, who else would it be?) so she couldn't really talk, could she? But Yuri was still feeling bad that Sethrian was obviously a better person than she was, so she couldn't just stand there silently, either. "It's not a problem of lack of trying," she said in a gentle voice, though it was obvious she was out of her comfort zone. It must have taken a lot of effort to make that trash dress. "But more like, trying in the wrong way." Oh, she wasn't good at being delicate. "No, the worst way," she corrected herself. Ehh, that'd have to do. She shrugged slightly and smoothed her hair back. She could really use a drink right about now.

As Cyrus set foot into the public garden, he couldn't help the slight twitch in his eye as the memory of crushed kitten corpses filled his brain. Seriously. Why did this Hamilton person have to pick this place? Surely, they could have decided on someplace else? Anywhere would have been better. Unfortunately for him, it was already done. He just had to suck it up. Most of all, he had to make sure to not trip. For all he know, puppies could be the next thing his a** would end up killing. He sat down on a nearby bench, carefully glancing behind him to check if any tiny creature might have been there, and waited for Hamilton to show up.

Tara had never been to the public garden before, but boy was this place nice. She'd have to make sure to stop by more often, because flowers and nature were just some of the best things around. Even in the middle of winter, this garden looked great, just imagine how it would look in spring! Whoever it was who took care of this place was doing a great job, maybe someday shed' find out who they were and give them a much needed compliment. In the meantime, she had other things to think about, like her date! Hopefully he'd be the type of person to sit around and admire nature too. As she made her way through the garden, she spotted a man sitting on a bench. He was older than she was, but he was pretty attractive. Well, it couldn't hurt to approach him, "Excuse me, are you Cyrus?"

He sent a nod to the woman’s way. “That means you’re Tara Hamilton then?” Hopefully, he had pronounced that right. He had to rely on his niece to read everything on the note for him since he wasn’t exactly the best reader around. Then again, Scarlet might have just read him the wrong name, and he wouldn’t have any idea otherwise. Damnit. Now he had to worry about whether or not he screwed up her name and his trauma about kittens. Please, Cyrus really hoped that that they wouldn’t have to go through the rose maze. If he had to see the blood stains….. He let out a small sigh before pulling out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He definitely needed a smoke to relax. “So, what do you want to do? And… do you want one?” He hesitantly offered to her as he already began lighting one for himself.

"Yes, that's me," Tara smiled, and extended a hand. "Oh, we can do whatever. We could stay here and walk around or go somewhere else if you'd like," she suggested, "I'm pretty new here so I don't really know much about what there is to do." She shook her head as he offered her the cigarette, "Oh, no thank you." While there were plenty of new things she was willing to try, she was not going to compromise her health! A healthy body was a healthy mind, or something like that. Even so, she'd respect his decisions. After all, there were much worse things a person could do. "So um, any ideas?" she swtiched back to the subject of what to do. Surely he could think of something to do, even if it was just sit and chat in the garden! She'd have no problem with that, seeing as how this was the place she picked, still, she didn't want to bore the man.

Cyrus withheld a small grimace as he reached out to shake Tara’s hand. Ugh. He was definitely not a fan of physical contact, but he was going to suck it up. After all, it was for the money. Technically, the money wasn’t even going to him but to some homeless clown instead, but still, money was involved. He’d do practically anything for it. "Suit ya self.” He shrugged off her refusal as he pocketed his pack of cigarettes. Wait. She seemed to have been expecting something from him. Why didn’t she get that he didn’t leave his house? “I’m new here too. Sorta. I ain't got the time to get out much, so I don’t know much either.”

Then again, if he didn’t suggest anything, then he’d be stuck in the garden, and there was no way that he was staying here. “How about…” Cyrus paused, wracking his brain for someplace…. outside his house. Hm. What didn’t involve kittens? Damn, it seemed like everything involved cats these days. Finally, he managed to dredge up one idea that wasn't violated with kitten corpses, and that was caffeine. Good. Old. Caffeine. "...the coffeehouse? We can head over there and get something to drink. I’ll… pay." Those words were hard to leave his mouth, but he forced it out anyway. Good for him.

It was only a matter of time before coming to the public gardens became necessary. Today felt kind of like a 'get out and do something you isolated creature' day to Muse. Since coming to Nirvani, Muse had been nothing but a nervous wreck.-- not that anyone would have noticed, she hid herself in her apartment the entire time. But, she told herself she was okay now, so she was okay. The woman finally decided to go out and enjoy the nice summer weather. She tried the beach, too crowded, the library, too much pressure to read and be quiet. Here at the gardens would probably be better for Muse's soul. She'd even brought a book to relax with. She knew a lot about plants and flowers though, from a role about two years ago, and wanted to see some summer ones. It was nice to see them again, alive this time, after all those couple of years. She ducked down near some vibrant red yarrows and intensely watched the small bugs crawl over it's small petals. Few flowers were as carefree and generous as the yarrow, even in the blaring summer sun.

The flowers left a fresh scent in the air, and all she could hear was the occasional bird chirping, and the sometimes the distant laugh of a couple on a date. She smiled whenever that happened. She just couldn't help it, happy people made her happy. Though Muse was not particularly interested in romantic endeavors,(or loneliness, which she was feeling intensely in the past week) she liked hearing of them. They mostly stayed to the path, while she was sitting on the grass, her back against a small fountain. She stretched all her limbs, and then curled them back up, at the same time opening her book. She hadn't been to many places in the island yet, but the library assistants knew her face she'd been there so many times. When you didn't have a steady job, you tended to have a lot of free time. And Muse occupied that time by reading books. Knowledge was just about her favorite thing, and she happily indulged herself in every book she could find, no matter what it was about. She did have to admit, reading out in the sun surrounded by flowers was much better than reading cooped up in her empty apartment.

Being a teacher wasn't easy. For three-fourths of the year, Peter woke up early and stayed up late preparing for lessons, grading homework assignments, and scraping dried glue from the undersides of desks. It didn't really feel like hard work because he liked his job, but that didn't mean that he couldn't enjoy time off when he got it. Weekends were supposedly his, but he often found himself doing work-related things anyway. Summer break was the only time he really had time to do things that he liked, when he liked, how he liked. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't entirely sure what those things were. So mostly he just ended up wandering.

It was a pleasant summer day in the grand scheme of things, but Peter found himself sweating a bit under the direct sunlight. Why didn't the garden have more shade? ...Oh right, flowers needed sunlight to grow. Well, trees could be pretty too, and they were a lot more comfortable to walk under. Wiping his hand under the mop of hair covering his forehead, he continued to pace around the garden at a leisurely pace. It was certainly pleasant here, but it wasn't nearly as stimulating as he had hoped it would be. It had felt like he had circled past the same rose bush for the eighteenth time when he noticed someone sitting on the grass, a book in hand. A book! That's what he should have done. But you couldn't just get any old book, you had to get one that was suitable for garden-reading! Peter stopped dead in his tracks and looked at the young woman -- or rather, the book in her hands. He couldn't read the title from here; if he could just read the title, then maybe he could figure out what sort of book he should look for... Without realizing it, he began to wander closer to Muse, leaning forward with his hands on his knees and tilted his head to the side to see if he could make something out. He was his parents' child, afterall, which meant that no matter how hard he tried, he really was one big idiot at heart.

As much as Muse wanted to get comfortable, she couldn't. She couldn't pay enough attention to the book, because she was paying too much attention to what was going on around her. She read the same line about twenty times before she could understand it. Or maybe books about prehistoric life were just not for her. B-but, dinosaurs, Muse. With every line she both wanted to quit and also learn more. In this environment, however, it just wasn't working out at the moment. Maybe she should've grabbed one of the many books with two people kissing on the front as the worker there had recommended for 'a young woman with a thirst for love,' direct quote. Though she would've have enjoyed it as much most likely, it would've probably been more appropriate for this situation, and require less concentration. How deep could those books get? Not as deep as the entire history of dinosaurs, that was for sure.

The grass was kind of itchy on her legs, and changing positions didn't do much for her. There were too many bees flying around her head. Maybe she shouldn't have sat too close to all these huge patches of flowers. Time to relocate! That bench over there seemed good, though it was nearer to the path than she would have liked... Oh well. She replaced her bookmark on the last page she read, and snapped her book shut. When she looked up, a man was there, bent over, staring at her. "Hi!" She squeaked, jumping slightly. Was she not supposed to be here? Why was someone looking at her that intensely? "C-can... can I help you?" She asked hesitantly. He looked nice enough, but he was just a little bit too close to be socially acceptable. She looked herself over quickly. No lost animals around, no wardrobe malfunction, no frisbee laying near her that he expected to be passed back...

Peter was probably well on his way to bending over into a full-on headstand when the book snapped shut, revealing the title. Wait, he had that book! He hadn't read it yet, because of school and everything and the fact that reading was more of a chore than a hobby for him (he was slow, okay), but he had it! He made a mental note to bring it with him during tomorrow's walk, just as the holder of the book spoke up. He jumped as well, returning to his full upright position (he could hear his mother right now, "you're a teacher, Peter, stop acting like a queer") and pulling up his shoulders bashfully. "Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't realize...!" He had been so distracted by his thoughts, the fact that he was acting peculiarly had completely missed his attention. Oh, this was embarrassing, and he adjusted his glasses a couple times and hoped her wasn't turning pink. "I was just wondering what you were reading... Dinosaurs, right? I have the same one. ...That's a bad excuse, I'm sorry." Letting go of his glasses, Peter moved his hands to fiddle with the top button on his shirt nervously. This nice-looking young woman probably thought he was some sort of freak. "I'll just... leave you to your book, then. I'm sorry."

Muse was apprehensive of this stranger until he mentioned he had the same book. She immediately relaxed, and looked back at the title just to make sure she knew what she was reading. A pretty professional-looking grown man owned a book like this one? About dinosaurs? This was definitely adult reading, but the adults that actually had interest in the subject were few and far between. "R...really? You have this book too?" The man could have easily been lying, but Muse was sometimes too trusting. She didn't have a very good intuition about people either, but this one looked nice to her. "Sorry.. it's kind of embarrassing. Liking dinosaurs and fossils is not very ladylike..." She laughed weakly and scratched the back of her neck. That's what people did when they were bashful, right? Muse saw it in a movie once.

Just as quickly as the man had entered her afternoon reading session, he was already off, mumbling apologies. That seemed like a very Muse thing to do... "W-wait...!! ...Um..." She stumbled forward from her sitting position, and reached out with one hand. It looked like she was trying to stop someone from going to their death. The woman soon retracted her hand and sat down, fingering the hem of her shorts. She felt pretty bad for scaring him away, though in truth it was more like he scared himself away. But she wanted to make sure she was viewed as approachable! But she didn't know what to stay after she rather rudely halted his departure. "D-do you read any other books? I'm looking for some more suggestions..." Of course he read other books. But how else would she word it? Usually she just went to the library and pulled interesting looking books of the shelf, but she was really curious as to what other books this person liked. Maybe they shared more interests that they could talk about! Muse was rather socially-deprived, and any attempt to make conversation usually ended up with her running away. coughGoddessFestivalcough Plus, her mother wasn't answering her calls. Relocating your life was lonely.

Peter was pretty sure that this girl would have started to chastise him for being weird and creepy, or run away, or really done anything that would have made him feel guilty for being himself. But she kept talking to him, even as he tried to turn away. For a moment, he was confused -- he had interrupted her, ruined what could have been a lovely day, but she still wanted to talk to him? Peter Tamaki was twenty-five years old, but he still found himself thrown off by people wanting to interact with him. He had been attached to Wilhelm by the hip for far too long. "Other books? Um... Let me think..." he turned back to face her and ran his hand through his hair, his blond fringe flopping back down over his eyebrows. He could really use a trim. "I don't read a whole lot, actually. I have a lot of, uh, science-y books. Like dinosaurs and stuff. But I haven't read a lot of them yet. Work," he explained with a sheepish shrug. "Oh, but, you shouldn't be embarrassed for liking dinosaurs! If you find it interesting, it doesn't matter if it's ladylike or not, right? My mom always said that dinosaurs weren't very masculine either, but I like them anyway." She had asked for book recommendations, Peter, not your life story. Jeez you can be such a bummer sometimes.

"What kind of books... do you like?" he tried to shift gears hesitantly. This girl wanted to talk to him for whatever reason, and frankly he was happy for it. Things had been lonely with Wilhelm away again, and as much as he loved his sister, she was not the best conversation partner. And now that it was summer, he didn't even have Junior or Michael to make smalltalk with. So he wanted to keep the conversation going, no matter how weird or awkward he was being. "Aside from dinosaurs, I mean."

He stayed? Muse was honestly surprised that he didn't just continue to walk away after giving an excuse to leave. She was nothing special after all, no real reason to stay. "I see... That's a shame. I read a lot, probably since I have a lot of free time now..." She said, though she didn't imagine the man would care at all. She grasped the end of her shirt nervously as she tried to think of what to say next. "Where do you work, if you don't mind me asking?"

"A-and, thanks. Dinosaurs are cool, I'm glad you like them too." She let out a weak laugh and it soon faded out. "I... I like reading everything, honestly. Science stuff is cool too! It's all very interesting. Except maybe horror... What about you? No, w-wait, you just told me, sorry!" She berated herself in her mind. He's going to run away Muse! She just had to channel some of that false 'actor's confidence' again if she wanted to keep the conversation going. And she really did want to. She took a deep breath. She had to take a year-long breathing class a couple of years back. It really did help clear her mind though. "Oh, right! I-I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Muse, what's your name?" She was still sitting and kind of looking up towards him, and that was no way to make an introduction. She stood up quickly, in one swift motion, and did a tiny wave with her hand. Should she have given a handshake instead? Probably. "E-er, sorry for calling you back like that, it was kind of rude. I just moved back here, and I know absolutely no one. I guess I jumped on the opportunity to talk to someone... Sorry...." Here was Muse with her sorries again. She stretched out her arm to initiate a handshake, with an apologetic smile.

So many people interested in where he worked lately! Peter wasn't that used to introducing himself by his occupation, so it still felt ticklish to say it out loud. "Um, I'm a teacher?" he replied, reaching up to scratch the back of his head with one anxious finger. "At the school here. I do the younger grades. I mean, I teach the elementary-aged kids. At the school." Oh boy, he was probably sounding dumb, and she was going to wonder how such a dumb person managed to get teaching credentials. He was so bad at talking to people without Wilhelm to fall back on. This girl obviously was having a hard time herself too, but that only made it harder for Peter to assume a normal confident adult-like pose.

"It's okay! You don't need to apologize!" he hastily added. "For everything. It was rude of me to stare like that, so I'm sorry. Spaciness runs in my family, I think." Cue awkward laugh. "And I'm not in a hurry. It's summer break, so... I have... time..." He trailed off as he realized what she had said her name was. Muse? Why was that so familiar? Peter furrowed his brow as he tried to remember who else he knew who was named Muse. ...Oh, right, yes! All those childhood stories! He had been too young to really remember his preschool friend Muse Sonata, but his mother and aunt had told him plenty of stories growing up. Huh. What a coincidence, that they both had the same name? "Anyway, Muse... That's an unusual name! Where did you get it from? ...Sorry, that's a weird question. Most people probably don't know exactly where their names are from. Not everyone's moms picked something from Peter Pan!" he laughed nervously again, realizing he was rambling by this point. Man, making new friends was so hard. "...Oh, right. That's my name. Not Peter Pan, just Peter. It's nice to meet you Muse." Oh well, might as well just give in to the inevitable failure to come across as a grown up and just fumble through niceties. "You just moved here? What brought you? Work or something?" Wow that sounded dumb, "a job". It was a miracle their conversation had lasted this long with Peter doing half of the work so poorly.
