When Blossom entered the Hostess Club, Ganon was packing up his stuff. With much of its staff at war, the place was looking for temporary employees and on reduced hours until it found some.

Ganon had been miserable since Aruna had left to offer her services as a healer to the troops, moping around the club after hours and struggling to work on his... whatever the hell that thing he was working on, always down at the castle library or talking to Lord Zeon. So when Blossom came in while the place was closed, he looked up in a bit of confusion. He hadn't actually told anyone but Loch that he was going; Loch needed to know, and the reptilian bard hadn't wanted to worry anyone. But he couldn't stay home with a war on. It was something he had to chronicle. And... well, his girlfriend was out there.

And that fool with his head screwed on backwards was out there, too. He needed to be brought home. Ganon still felt bad about that one.

The snake had his guitar slung across his back, his mandolin and violin in their cases. The necks of a few elixirs stuck out of a bag resting on his hip, which he hastily covered before looking up at Blossom again, critically examining her clothing, her own pack of supplies.

"... You're heading to Pentheus too, are you?" he asked, wandering toward her with a wry smile. "I was hoping not to wind up making you feel like you had to come along, but... well. If you're going anyway," he murmured, tail waving slowly as he offered the little hero his elbow.

"Hitching a ride on my cart should be a damn sight better than walking."

Blossom felt bad, to be honest, to be leaving like this and possibly leaving Loch in the lurch. She had already received time away under the impression that she'd be leaving with Rin, and she had felt too miserable about the situation's resolution to clarify the mistake. The little Hero could only be relieved that it was coming full circle, really.

It would make sense for him to bring whatever he felt was necessary, especially since he had the space to spare for it all. She caught a glimpse of the bottles as well, but it was so brief that she couldn't quite identify what they were, other than that it was something made of glass. She chose not to dwell on it. "Y-- Yeah, actually. I just... didn't-- I didn't want to sit around and let other people do the-- do the fighting for me, I guess." She brushed her hair away from her eyes and smiled sheepishly. Ganon was usually pretty good about that whole sensitivity thing, and she relaxed as he offered his elbow to her.

"Thank you," she murmured, smiling more broadly. "And if it helps, you aren't making me feel like I have to come. Someone else convinced me, actually."

She looped both arms up and around his elbow, relaxing at the familiar feel of his scaly skin. Ganon always was a rather stabilizing presence, for reasons she didn't entirely understand. "Let's get going, then. We've got a long way to go if we're going to catch up."

Abel, Dietrich, everyone, please be careful. Blossom squeezed his arm a little and smiled wide up at him. May Elimine watch over us all.

Abel turned slightly and glanced at Blossom as she walked off. "...No. Not yet."

-------------------------------------------------

A few hours later, Abel and Dietrich came upon a clearing just outside the village of Vayrin. It was atop a slight hill and had a great view of the village and lake down below. There were a few trees scattered intermittently around the area, very few of them evergreens. The area seemed like it would be beautiful in any season. The clearing was flat and was home to a run-down, abandoned fort. Nearly half of the building had collapsed by the looks of it and what walls were left were coated in vines. As the two walked closer, other figures came into view.

"Hey.. everyone. Sorry for the wait." Abel nodded at the other members of his mercenary group. "If you're wondering why I asked we all gather here before heading out... well, this is it. This is the place I'm looking to transform into our base." He smiled sheepishly. "I've been trying to work out a deal and buy the land, but it... it's just a lot of money. I'm hoping the pay from the Sentrians will be enough." He looked around and sighed slightly as if somehow feeling nostalgic. "But I think it'll be great! It's the perfect location... and once I buy the land, we can work together to rebuild this fort. It'll be nice to have a home... for those of us who want to call it that."

Clara took one good look at the land that she had been called to. So this was to be where Abel was planning to make the base. The myrmidon couldn't help but smile at the idea.

"I think this will be a great place to call home," She said. "I never really found a place to call home here, so I'm excited to rebuild this place. Now we just need to get through this."

As a mercenary, Akihi's learned some cold hard truths about the real world -- mainly, that things aren't as clean and beautiful as his imagination likes to suggest. Life is hard and painful, like a constant battle he always has to come out on top of. It's unfair and likes to kick you in the face, and then in the ribs once it gets you down on the ground.

Still, sometimes Akihi can't help but wonder if everything's simply a dream. Maybe, just maybe he'll wake up one day and he'll find himself back in Elibe, with burnt out candles and piles of old, dusty books as his sole company. He'd emerge from his little run-down house and go into the heart of his village, where he'd hear murmurings of his sister's latest victories, and he'd wonder when he'd be free from her shadow.

It could all be a dream. He's had more hyper-realistic delusions in the past. But as he stares at the broken fort overlooking Vayrin, the village his sister and niece now call home, he can't help but hope he'd never lose this.

"Yeah, it's great..." The mage replies with his too soft voice (some things never change), eyes flickering between Abel, his fellow mercenaries, and their (as far as he's concerned) new fort. Their new home. The smallest of smiles comes to his face. "We'll all have a place to return to."

i'll uh. edit this sometime later with a link to akihi's updated appearance,,, hell yeah))

It was official; their first collective job. Blythe was now part of a real mercenary faction. There could be no turning back for the Troubadour now, not that there ever had been ‘turning back-opportunities’ for him, not since arriving in Learania, unable to turn back to Magvel. He’d fully committed himself to this, going even so far as soliciting lessons from members of the Watch on equestrian combat, forcing himself to practice defensive sparring, and regularly training his mount Cesario and himself to be better prepared for doing their job to the best of their abilities in combat scenarios. All aspects of his life have been molded for this moment…

Or rather, a moment Blythe had expected to take place a bit earlier than it now finally was. When Blythe first arrived to the designated location, it didn’t surprise him that no one else was there – the Troubadour had made certain to arrive early, his punctuality a signifier to him of his professionalism and how serious he was about his work. Eventually more of his fellow mercenaries arrived at this old, forsaken fort. But the wait for the actual boss, Abel, was longer than he’d have expected. But it was of no matter. Blythe forced himself to dismiss it and reasoned that Abel and Dietrich must have had good reasons for their tardiness, and they weren’t obligated to share them, anyway. Everyone was now present and that was what mattered.

And Blythe was really quite keen on the location as their ideal base of operations. The surrounding area was beautiful, there was a village nearby if they needed various resources, and it the location was more of a center between a number of Learania’s larger cities and closer to both Estarcia and Sentria than the capitol of Eyris, which was probably better for getting more potential jobs from more places. And better to live near a small village than in a big capitol of a monarchy anyway, Blythe thought to himself. “Definitely! It’s a great location, Abel. I look forward to it.”

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Well, it was about damn time, wasn't it? Annis arrived shortly before Abel, landing neatly in the clearing with a familiar grey-winged man alongside her. She settled on the grass near Blythe, offering the Troubadour a friendly wave before resting her hands on her hips, surveying the area. The view of the lake, especially, was rather nice. "Gotta hand it to the kid," she commented, smiling to herself, "He's pretty good at picking out land."

She rested her weight on one leg, hip jutting to the side, when Abel arrived, and listened in silence. She couldn't help but grin, nodding shortly. "Sounds like a done deal, Boss!" The raven strolled easily over to him, clapping a hand on his shoulder before wrapping an arm around them and tugging him against her in a one-armed hug. "Sounds like you've got a good handle of this situation, and I'm sure you know you can come right to use if y'need any help with the logistics, right? Not to brag, but Loch's pretty damn good with all'a that administrative work, I've seen him do it." She shook his shoulders slightly as she gave him a friendly squeeze, then mussed his hair. "You've got a good head on your shoulders, Boss. I got a feelin' that this is gonna work out juuust fine."

Annis finally released him then, offering Dietrich a grin before looking back at the Hero, fists on her hips. "So! What's the first order of business for work, Boss? We're all here an' ready to go."

Abel was taken aback a little, but smiled when he saw that everybody was really excited about the fort. It would take them a while, but he was determined to make a place for them. He glanced at Loch, when Annis mentioned him. "That'll be helpful, thanks..."

Next, it was finally time to give his team the mission rundown. "Alright, listen up, everyone. Our client is... an interesting case." He rubbed the back of his head. "I can't tell you much about him, but... it's that Sentrian mercenary leader." He saw the on his team's faces that it didn't make sense. "I know, I know... just... trust me. It's legit. And our pay is going to be veeery nice." He smiled and then put his hand back down at his side. "Now, the reason we haven't left yet, is because technically... I'm not allowed to leave the country. Or.. Eyris, for that matter... though, I think Diedrich's connection with the Guard will ensure that the ones who saw me leave will look the other way." He nudged Diedrich's side and chuckled. "Now, I didn't do anything illegal or anything like that! It's Rath. I tried getting him to hire us, but he wouldn't. And then he told me I couldn't leave the city! Whatever... he might think he can control me, but he's wrong. Because we've got a different client. And once they're out of Learania, Rath doesn't have the authority to to make us go back." He smirked. "That's why we haven't left yet. We needed to give them a few days to get on the road before we followed after them. And now the time has come. We're moving out! You should all be packed and ready for travel like I told you, but if you need to pick up anything, you can buy it at the village below. I'm going down there to take care of something personal, myself... Any questions?"

Though he felt his stomach twist slightly from worry (something about the whole "getting hired by a Setrian mercenary leader" thing refused to settle well with him for reasons he didn't quite understand himself), Akihi knew he had to trust Abel's judgement. Even if it meant technically going behind Rath's back in order to throw their weapons in the fray, it'd turn out okay in the end... right?

Akihi sighed under his breath and tugged firmly on the straps of his backpack. The corner of one of his tomes (Elwind? Arcthunder?) dug into his spine, but after a few tries to shift things around through slight jostling movements he decided to leave things be for the moment.

"Abel?" Instead, he walked over to where Abel stood. He didn't have a question, per se, but a request. "Could you... say hi to them for me? I would appreciate it."

To him, it was blatantly obvious where Abel was going next -- he may have no relationship experience to speak of, but he was astute enough to notice something like this. While normally, habitually (and because she would throw a fit otherwise), he would go out of his way to at least give his sister a head's up before leaving, this time she would have to be content with seeing Abel instead. Not that that's a bad thing for her...

He lingered long enough to get a simple response from Abel before leaving him be. No reason to delay him any more, right? Though he had to figure how to pass the time now that he wouldn't be seeing his overly-excited niece.

After a moment of consideration, he approached Blythe with a small wave in greeting. "Did you need to get anything in the village? I've been here a few times, so I... know my way around."

Blythe was less enthralled about the vagueness of their current client Abel described than he was the plans for the base of operations for their group. The followup-announcement that Abel wasn’t supposed to leave the country either was also disconcerting. Blythe took their leader at his word though – if this Rath fellow had told Abel not to leave when he had done nothing wrong, it served, in the Troubadour’s mind, as nothing more than another example of the inherent superiority of republics and democracy compared to systems with royalty.

Not that he actually knew this Rath character, other than that he was someone in a position of power.

At Akihi’s greeting and invitation to go into the village, Blythe made sure to amicably smile back and motion a return greeting with an arm. “Ah, Akihi! I have everything I need, and I’ve actually been though the village a few times, myself – I traveled around a good deal looking for work after The Siege of Eyris before joining this company.” The rushed exposition of the Troubadour’s response was awkwardly forced out of a desire to make good conversation with the Mage and Blythe realized it.

Although the two hadn’t known each other for very long, and despite having not had much opportunity for interacting substantially with any of his new mercenary companions, something about Akihi resonated with the Troubadour although he couldn’t specify precisely what. Yet whether it was just as kindred spirits in the same company, or that they both wore shades of blue and purple, or being each other’s missing half in the realm of magic, one wielding tomes without healing staves, the other wielding staves but defenseless alone, Blythe was hoping to cultivate a good relation with him.

“But I see no reason to remain here and wait. If you’re going into the village I’ll gladly accompany you.” And the seeds are planted.

As Abel was talking about the details of the client, it made her uneasy. When he got to the details of the fact that he wasn't supposed to leave the country, it made her upset. There was a rare look of seriousness when Abel got to wondering if anyone had any questions.

"I have one," She said, "Are you crazy Abel!?" Clara started to walk towards him. "Do you think that things will be all ok with your idea? If Rath finds out you left the country you're going to be in some serious trouble. If that happens, who knows what will happen to the rest of us." At the point she was right next to Abel, looking him straight into his eyes.
