The boy's hold wasn't as strong as he had hoped it would be, but he knew that he was doing the best he could given the situation. Using one hand he put it under the boy to help keep him on his back and then shifted carefully to reach the fruit he had put down. Slipping the fruit into his pack, at least the pieces he hadn't cut up yet and then went to stand.

He was still full of questions, why the boy was alone was his foremost worry and second why he was so ill. He had to ponder if it had anything to do with the curse he had broken earlier, but the leaf tribe man had recovered from his illness quite quickly, so perhaps this was just a regular illness...

Moving he strode forward it was going to take a while to get to the edge of the forest but at least they were on the move.

"How long have you been sick?" Takoda inquired as he needed to know more about the sickness before he had any hope to healing him.

Nuawahn didn't feel hot anymore, and his head didn't feel like it was full of fur so much anymore, but he did feel tired, and Takoda's back was very comfortable right now. He didn't have pokey spikes like the adults of his tribe, and he didn't bump around as much as Amma.
His question confused Nuawahn, though! How long had he been sick? "I don't know..." he said, trying to think through the tired,When had he gotten sick? Had he always been sick? No. That wasn't right.

If only La'amu could understand and answer. She knew how long her notcalf had been sick, she'd been with him the whole time. She might have had a few other comments about, well, everything. As it was, she didn't understand, and couldn't answer, though she did comment, shorting occasionally as she walked behind them. She was still not happy about the situation.

The fact the young boy had no idea how long he had been sick probably meant at least a couple of fevered days. Fevers could make one really confused and time passing could feel like weeks rather than minutes or hours.

"It's okay, it doesn't matter really you will be getting stronger and stronger as the hours pass. My healing will see to that. But need to ease you back into full health slowly so..please if you want to sleep that is alright. You need your rest after all." Takoda stated softly, he didn't want to the boy to push himself in answering questions, and he was perfectly content to walk in silence if he needed to.

Glancing behind to make sure the camperal was still following behind them he adjusted his speed so that it wasn't too brisk a pace. Looks like the two of them had been through a lot together.

"Okay" Nuawahn said, believing him. Nuawahn trusted healers, as mama had taught him. He wanted to stay awake, though, so that he could keep looking around, but every time he closed his eyes even just to blink, they wanted to stay there. He didn't want to, but the healer man had said it was okay to rest, so he stopped fighting to keep them open and let them fall and stay there. He was awake for a bit after he closed his eyes, listening to the crunch of leaves and twigs under the mans feet and La'amu's hooves. He could hear her grumble and smiled, remembering other times she had muttered at him. She was always so grumbly! But he couldn't stay awake, and soon fell into quiet, restful sleep.
La'amu would have appreciated the slower pace if she had realized Takoda was doing it intentionally. She wondered how much further she would have to travel in this icky, sticky mud and whether she would find dry bedding to lie on, something without moisture to seep into her old bones and lungs. Or sand. Sand got in her fur and felt nasty and gritty. She liked how warm sand smelled, but her fur was a line that had gotten crossed in the long trek across the Tale. She muttered again, eying the brush on either side suspiciously as she followed Takoda. She really hated this jungle.

The trekked for what seemed quite awhile, the shifter having to occasionally shift the young boy on his back to stop him from slipping down. He did this with utmost care as he had a sense the boy had fallen asleep and he didn't want to disturb him. By no means was the shifter a strong man, he was a healer after all a monk...and his feet were getting weary just carrying the extra weight on his back. Takoda wondered briefly how the campreal managed to do it, for it was most likely her duty to carry the boy around.

Looking back to the creature he offered it an encouraging smile. The ground was getting less muddy, firmer and the tree's were starting to thin out. They were nearing the edge of the forest, and Takoda was relieved as his feet were beginning to get very sore. It had perhaps been a couple of hours since Takoda had first found Nuawahn and he wanted to check on his fever so once he found a good spot just on the edge of the forest he went to carefully slip the boy off his back.

"Time to wake up Nu, I need to check how your fever is doing." Takoda spoke gently as he went to sit the boy on the ground making sure he was awake before reaching into his pack to bring out a water skin. The boy was probably thirsty...and the camprael as well.

"Here you go girl," Takoda said softly as he used his magic to summon water into a large leaf that he had spotted nearby.

La'amu would have happily expounded on how much of a pain Nuawahn could be when he wanted to ride her off into adventure or something equally absurd. It wasn't that the notcalf was heavy, but that he wanted to go faster and faster and faster and she really did not like going fast. There was nothing in life that one couldn't do by plodding steadily along.
Well.
Her notcalf's sickness was an exception. It was urgent and had scared her, so it needed speed.
But now, between the walking and the running and the nasty mud, La'amu's hooves were as weary as the monk's feet. Capramel were bred for harsh walking, but she was happy to rest them, even for a bit.
She lay down near them and took the offered water, deciding she was grateful and maybe liked this twoleg. She still watched him as he worked with her Nuawahn, though. Better safe than sorry.

Nuawahn awoke gently from a blissfully dreamless sleep as he was slipped off the man's back. For a moment, he thought he was at home.
Are we camping for the night? he wondered, groggily, taking a deep breath as he stirred, I'm so tired, though... maybe if I pretend to still be asleep, I wont have to do work...
But that was a bad thing to do. Yet, he felt so comfortable and weak...
When he heard an unfamiliar voice, however, and became aware of the tickle of jungle moisture on his face, he knew he wasn't home. He opened his eyes. It took him a second to recognize the shifter, but then he knew. That was Mister Takoda. Mister Takoda was nice. But this wasn't home. And he felt tired, like he'd been the one walking. And thirsty. Really thirsty.
"Okay" murmured Nuawahn, trying to sit up a little bit. He was certainly better than he had been before, but, figuratively and literally, not out of the woods yet.

The monk let the boy drink as much water as he wanted or felt the need to drink. If the leaf cup emptied he made sure there was more water for him as well his pet camperal, though food was gong to be the next thing and some herbs he had spotted on the way out of the forest. But dare he leave the boy here alone? Technically he wasn't alone as long as his pet was with him, but he still didn't feel right leaving him there.

Standing he moved over taking out his book from his satchel and flipping through a few pages, a healers guide...a wonderful resource and wealth of information. Casually he summoned some water into the palm of his hand, causing it to glow white he observed it before moving down and back to Nuawhan.

The water was still glowing slightly as he let some of it settle on the boy's forhead.

"How are you feeling? still hungry? Maybe your cold? Too warm?" He questioned him if only because he needed to know his symptoms now.

The water was... glowing. Nuawahn liked it. He wanted to make pretty water like that. He watched the healer work with as much interest as he could muster.

How was he feeling... what a funny question. He was feeling... things?
"I'm warm..." he mumbled, "An' sleepy..." He was mostly just really comfortable.
"I don't want to move, mister Takoda. Do I have to walk somewhere?" it happened sometimes. Adults could carry you for a time but eventually you had to walk on your own. But Nuawahn just wanted to sleep. "I liked that fruit. Do you have more...?" he asked hopefully.

As the fluid settled on his forehead, Nuawahn tried to follow it with his eyes, but it was beyond his vision. He focused lazily back on Takoda's face.
"How did you do that? Make the water pretty?" he asked. It was magic, wasn't it? His interest was keeping him awake.

Takoda offered a soft smile as he let the water settle onto his forehead, it was cute listening to him, how he didn't want to walk anymore or at least he could tell he didn't want to move anymore. Allowing it to sit on the boy's skin a bit he went to answer his questions.

"You don't have to walk...you can just rest here." The monk murmured as he chuckled, so the boy was hungry? This was a good sign. "Yes I have more if you wait a moment I'll cut it up for you."

Moving his hand the water followed it and then he allowed it to drain into the parched earth below them. It seemed like a bit of a waste to put the magical water there, but he could always make more. Repositioning himself Takoda searched through his satchel for the fruit he had brought with them. Cutting it up with his small dirk he smiled as he worked.

"I am a healer...I use my water and my magic to heal people...the water glows to show that I infused it with healing properties." He explained as he wiped the blade and the put it away. Leaning forward he handed Nu some of the fruit before offering a different slice to his pet.

Nuawahn smiled up at him. He didn't have to walk anywhere? That was good. Mister Takoda was really nice to let him stay here on this comfortable whatever it was! Mister Takoda was a nice guy. A good guy. He could feel himself falling asleep again, but he also knew he was hungry, and fruit was forthcoming.
"Okay!" he said, resolving to be patient and stay awake until he had eaten the fruit. He could smell it's fresh, sweet scent as Takoda cut it up for him, and his mouth started watering- surprising, since it hadn't done so when he had woken up before. He felt suddenly hungrier as he watched the fruit get cut up. Really hungry. Hungrier than he had ever felt. Well, now he couldn't sleep until he got that fruit, so he didn't have to worry! Plus- things always tasted really good when you were hungry!
He reached out his hand to take a slice, though he had to sit up and that was so much work. "Thank you!" he chirped at Nice Mister Takoda, just as he had been taught, before eating the fruit happily. His face still had a rosy tinge to it. He was not out of the woods yet, but he wasn't comatose with a dangerous fever. It was dropping to a more normal, not-too-life-threatening fever, quickened by the Healer's magicks.

Speaking of, Nua may have been hungry, but his attention was divided between the fruit and the MAGIC. He loved magic! He listened to Takoda, his mouth full of fruit, with a wide-eyed expression of awe on his face.
"Thats really neat!" said Nuawahn, following the water with his eyes as it soaked into the dry ground, "I wish I could do magic!"
The fruit felt good in his stomach. It made him feel better. But a strange tiredness, more than before, lingered at the edge of his conciousness. For now, he ignored it for the spectacle of MAGIC.

Takoda gave the young boy another small smile, he wasn't a very loud or boastful man in fact he was normally quite quiet, but it was nice to be helping Nu and get him better. Seeing how hungry he seemed to become he went about cutting up more fruit, it was a good sign to see him perk up. As he went about using the small nice once again he gave a small laugh.

"Well anyone has the ability to use magic, it just takes a lot of practice and the will to learn. Wither you want to use it for helping others or to heal is up to you of course. Some people use magic to fight, whilst others like myself only want to use it for good." He explained as he gently put the knife back onto the earth beside him before using his hand to summon a mound of earth to make a small child sized table. He then leaned over and gathered some large leaves and placed them onto it making a strange place mat of sorts to put the fruit onto.

"Magic can be very useful but you have to show it respect."

He got to have more fruit?! Really?! When mama gave him dried fruit she wouldn't let him have a lot. Mister Takoda must be really special nice then!

Anybody?! "Can I do magic too?!" he asked, eyes very wide. That would be so wonderously wonderful! "I wanna do good things too!"
Right then, he kind of wanted to be like Takoda! Especially as he watched with awe as the earth moved and made a shape right in front of him. "You made a table!" he said delightedly, not quite squealing with delight. He would have bounced too, but his first attempt made him feel really strange, so he decided against it.

"Why?" he asked, taking more of the fruit slices almost guiltily and eating them. Respect was an odd word. Mama used it sometimes- 'Respect your elders'. Nuawahn wasn't quite sure what that meant, but he was always nice to everybody so he figured it was sort of that? Did you have to be nice to magic for it to work? If he had magic, was he being mean to it without realizing it? He was sorry, magic! He didn't mean to be mean!

Takoda smiled at how delighted the young boy was at him doing magic. It seemed kinda like a waste to use magic just to entertain but it was so adorable seeing his eyes light up.

"Yes anyone has the ability to use magic, its something deep within you. " Takoda replied before he moved to settle around the new earth table he had made. "You need to show it respect because it is something that manipulates nature. Like how I made the table, and how I can summon water. There are some elements that are dangerous to use..like fire." He murmured as he was still not very comfortable using it.

"But if you really want to use magic you'll need to just make sure you are careful with it, it will be awhile before you can use it, but if you ever want me to show you more things I can." Takoda stated with a nod of his head. "Now eat your fruit, your feeling better right? Do you know where home is?"
PostPosted: Thu Oct 03, 2013 6:36 am

Wait, he could do magic too, then! He wasn't sure how, but he wanted to try anyway. He concentrated really hard and waved his hands, but nothing happened. He frowned at it briefly. Oh well!
He didn't entirely understand what Takoda said. 'You need to respect it because it manipulates nature'... what did that mean? Nuawahn was more confused than before. Magic was magic was magic? He didn't really get it.
Careful, though, Nuawahn could understand. He didn't know how to use it, but he could be careful! Tip-toe careful! Tip-toe magic? That sounded fun.
"Really?" he would have to remember to talk to Takoda a lot and get the nice man to show him more magic. Maybe he would explain the respect thing better some other time, too.
"A little better, I think" said Nuawahn, "I'm sleepy, but my head isn't so foggy or hot anymore." he ate the fruit- he was going to anyway.
"Ummm..." he tried to think, but he kept feeling sleepy. "Sauti." he said, smiling. Yep! that was the right answer. "Sauti is in the mountains." Nice Mister Takoda had said where he was, right? Nuawahn sort of remembered. Jahuar. And it was a place near the coast, but it wasn't Zena because Jahuar... Oh right! Jahuar was across the Tale! Jahuar was the other way. "Is that far away, Mister Takoda?"

La'amu was more comfortable than she thought she would be, and was fairly reassured that nothing horrible was about to happen. She had been awake for far too long, running around this nasty mucky tree place with a child on her back and who knows how many predators following her. She didn't know how long this comfort would last. With a huff, she rested her head and closed her eyes most of the way, still vaguely watching Takoda and her companion. She had been intending to watch them, but age and stress and fatigue took its toll. Soon her eyes were closed and a distinctively snore-like sound began to rumble forth from her.

Nuawahn giggled at the sound, coughing slightly. Silly Amma!
"May I have more water?" he asked, feeling as if he would never have enough water.
Magic was keeping him awake, and the sugars in the fruit were helping too, but on some level, he knew that he too would crash like his capramel.
