Before Al could answer Jordan, he was off to arm himself. No Jordan, no. Al had no interest in replacing those murdered dummies. Noooo Jordan. Nooooooo. HELL NO! Al moved back quickly as Jordan tried to approach him, determinedly keeping his distance.

Jordan blinked at Al, then grinned. "Don't worry, I won't break you. I prefer to leave actual humans intact after sparring. Saves time and resources."

Al wildly shook his head "No" still. Accidents happen, people get maimed and swept under rugs. He wanted no part.

Jordan sighed, his bright, enthusiastic expression sliding into a downcast one. "Well, I guess if you'd really rather not," he said, disappointed.

Al frowned at the loss in enthusiasm, "But you're like SO much stronger." Pout.

"Training's the best way to get stronger and keep your skills honed," Jordan pointed out. "I'm still working out my technique with these, and I can provide you with a good challenge. As long as you let me know when your shield's getting low - or the other way around - neither of us will even be hurt." He gave Al a hopeful smile.

Al still looked worried before lowering his gaze to the ground and giving his head a small bob of agreement.

"Thanks," Jordan said, his smile softening into something more genuinely pleased. He drew the barrier daggers and settled into a defensive stance. "First shot's all yours."

Al still looked entirely uncertain about this as he charged down after Jordan. Nuru still summoned as he took a swing at him with the mouth of the staff, razor sharp teeth scraped across his fear shield hungrily.

The attack was surprisingly accurate. Ferros rumbled low and displeased, the red stone on the ring flickering erratically with his irritation. Jordan sent him a wordless touch, reassuring, and Ferros calmed somewhat, but he said, I am never going to like this.
I know. We have to train this way anyway. Jordan let himself sway back with the force of the blow, then sidestepped and brought one dagger slicing swiftly in at Al's arm. It made only glancing contact. "That was great," he said approvingly. "Keep that up. How are you and Nuru getting along?"

Al felt the blow slide against the fear shield surrounding his arm. It... it didn't hurt?
Nuru gently reminded Al that he was there protecting him.
Al nodded agreeably to the unseen force before charging in with another swipe of the staff against Jordan's shield.

The slight unfocused look in Al's eyes suggested that he and Nuru were talking. Jordan brought his arm up to deflect the force of the blow away from his head, but it was still bone-rattling. Al was going to be a fighter to be watched out for, if this was any indication, Jordan thought with a touch of satisfaction.
He let the momentum of his block push Al's arms to the side, and brought his other hand whipping around to bury the blade in Al's side before pulling it out and jumping back.

"F... fine," Al finally spluttered after the dagger dug in across the fear all down his side. Okay, I actually felt that one.
Al deftly slid Nuru down to wedge against the ground directly in Jordan's path in effort to trip him up. Not major damage, but something of a favor for the attack before. Al grabbed his side and moved Nuru back to lean on him so he could turn to face his opponent.

Had Jordan been wielding Ferros, the maneuver probably would have been considerably more painful, the hammer's weight made manageable by the bond but still subject to gravity and momentum. As it was, Jordan only stumbled to one knee. That was something to watch out for in real combat, he thought, and sensed Ferros agreeing.
"Good one," he said, and braced one hand on the ground, bringing his leg around in a low kick aimed at Nuru's base where it was braced against the ground.

The kick caused Al to fumble a bit but he quickly reclaimed his composure to swing Nuru around again to face Jordan - just in time for flames to burst forth and engulf the hunter shield and all before extinguishing just as quickly as it appeared, leaving nothing but scorch marks on the dirt and tips of grass as a reminder that it ever existed. Al looked about as elated as the sounds Nuru was making in his head were.
