You know I don't play well with others.

Don't mind her, she was just gonna . . . try and keep it together . . . Guided as easily as a dog with a treat, she kept her hands entwined and her gaze strictly on the floor before her. "Nice to meet you too," she mumbled, then kicked herself for making such a weird awkward totally not cool first impression. There were a handful of handsome men on the island, don't get her wrong, but this was the first time she would get to be alone with one, and her tv shows and books couldn't help her, and Ami was probably super mad, and who talks to guys in Eeyore slippers anyway, and - ugh, breathe.

"Th-Thank you, sir, I hope I can help . . . Um, I'm pure Spaniard actually," Stormy explained, addressing his feet this time. Progress. "I was going to be born in the mother country, but Dad got offered a job in the States so . . . It's not my first language since they were learning English the same time I was growing up, but I can mimic the accent and everything." She paused, making the slippers kiss. "Um, Cap'n said you're helping her with the Euopean books . . . ?"

Like a very naughty cat.

"Oooh, pure Spaniard? How excitingly exotic." He mused, running a finger along the spines of some of the newer books, trying to see if he could remember any of the language other than "El" "Le" and "Puto". Nope, not really. It was a good thing he'd bonded to a European beast - lest he have to learn languages from different roots as a trainee. Differentiating between Germanic languages and Latin languages was easy, sure, but once you've ingrained the Germanic sounds in your head? It was hard to accept Latin, too.

"Ah, yeah. Regal - my weapon, Gryphon - comes from European folklore, though traces of them have been found in Egyptian hieroglyphs. Don't tell Ami, but I'm doing a bit of independent research. She'd give me flack for not totally focusing on my assigned translations. He rambled a bit, pulling out a book that he thought would need immediate translation; something on chupacabras, handing it to Stormy with a little grin. "I'm mostly versed in Norse, Western European Runes, Glyphs, and Greek. When I'm not at the shooting range, I'm either translating or learning." He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Research is incredibly valued in our division; medical or technological. If you don't make yourself valuable, the doctor sees no point in keeping you in Life."

Admittedly, the man was good and had Lex's respect and admiration. Getting on his bad side, however, wasn't something Lex really wanted. "Ah, sorry, I'm really rambling. Tell me more about a Spanish lifestyle."

A well behaved cat, thank you.

Ami had put her head on the table. Just for the moment.

Oh dear God help her, she was "exotic" now. Breathe, Stormy, breathe. "Oh, really? C-Cool," the trainee answered most lamely, fumbling for words as Lex told her about his weapon and his work; she did at least look very intrigued at how he was able to balance both this and what Ami threw at him. Life sure knew how to overwork themselves if she was any example . . .

There was a delayed reaction between noticing he was handing her a book and actually taking it, and she scanned the title with an owlish blink. "Those things, huh? Is it weird that I still sometimes find it hard to believe these things are really for real?" Gryphons and dragons and chupacabras and God knew what else in this world . . . Stormy stacked the book under her journal and clutched them both to her chest, finding the pressure acted as a little buffer against being too awkward around this . . . evidently handsome and smart man . . .

If Thane had been able to block the hormones, he would have; the dracolich settled for unamused rumbles that threatened to distract and further embarrass the trainee.

"Wow . . ." Stormy tried to give a low appreciative whistle like they did in the movies and ended up with nothing but air. "No wonder Cap'n wants you on the team. You guys are so smart . . ." Unlike her right now because what were words? How do you English? Stormy was surprised, however, to be probed about her culture and straightened up. "Oh! Um. Well, it's very colorful, and families are really big, and it's very communal, and Papi was head of the household but the power really was with Mami, my mom, and they were Catholic, and there was a lot of seafood and beans, and sometimes I pronounce English words weird because my parents pronounce it weird, and I'm . . . rambling . . . yeah . . ."

Text to Ami
A well behaved cat that's grumpy when she doesn't sleep.

Chuckling a bit and patting Stormy on the head, Lex smiled at the young Mist the way an uncle would look to a young niece he had affection for. "Sounds great, and I've always found little blips in speech patterns endearing." Sometimes, Lex really just didn't know how to turn off the charisma. He was like the energizer bunny of of charm, with less pink fur and no skills on a drum; or God forbid those horrible blue flip flops. "And you're a perfect fit Stormy - Ami doesn't put dumb people on this job. Madeline may seem stupid, but it's just a part of her act. Why she's not in our division, I can never tell..." He mused, shrugging it off. Probably because of her sheer aggression - that unbridled passion that made up who she was. Hopefully Stormy would find that something to look up to, while admiring Ami's calm and level demeanor.

Pulling out another book and grinning, Lex handed it to the girl. "More Mexican mythos - give that one to Madeline. Tell her she's ripped more hearts out than an Aztec priest." He smiled, knowing she'd get a kick out of that one. "So, what have you been doing since you woke up? I think I remember you tending the wounded at one point."

Sleep.

As in what Ami had currently resigned herself to doing on the table.

< < It has hair on its face. > >

Yeah . . .

< < Mine own is titillated by extra hair. > > As a dracolich who had formerly been more bone than anything else, this disgusted him.

Mmmmm . . . he called me perfect . . .

"That's good t'know 'cause I sometimes do this thing where I don't remember how to punctuate or anything, I just keep talking until I forget what I'm talking about. Sometimes I do it when I'm anxious, but normally that's when I start talking about trivia, like how the Eiffel Tower is 324 meters tall or something." Aaaand maybe she ought to just. Stop.

Swallowing, she took the book and stacked it atop the pile in her arms, cracking a smile at the mention of Madeline. "She's nice," Stormy said as a matter of factly. "I accidentally flame-farted her into the infirmary the first time we talked; Cap'n can tell you. We had to fix her up in the town." She giggled softly as if recalling an inside joke. "But, um . . . I did some courses, a couple've missions . . . Some weird stuff like the color kingdoms," the trainee added in an undertone, realizing not every hunter had been a part of that particular mission. "Oh! Uh, I did an artifact search with a friend of mine, Lucky--he's in Life too, d'you know him?--and I got a cool book thing."

Pause. A small look of horror passed her face.

"I forgot to tell Cap'n when I came back! The last trip down there was . . . painful." Burns beating her shields and marking her painful. Stormy's countenance took a concerned, anxious turn. "She'll be even more mad at me, won't she . . . I'm supposed to be on top of this stuff."

<< Would you quit that, whelp? >>

< Quit what? >

<< That...thing you do where you make the hens adore you. >>

< HENS? You call a female Gryphon a hen? Oh my God. > Lex was mentally rolling with laughter, but only chuckled in front of Stormy. He and Regal may have had a rocky relationship, but there were always times that Lex could laugh.

Speaking of artifacts, Lex tapped the small knife strapped to his arm, grinning a bit. "I got an arrowhead, turned it into a knife. Artemis' arrowhead, specifically. It's a funny little thing - it negates a quarter of damage that would be done through Fear, but if I cut a virgin or a girl it negates half of the damage taken." Unfortunately, it didn't block all the damage of virgin girls, or as Regal would call them: maidens.

"I...think I know who Lucky is? If he works more on the tech side of the labs, I probably haven't run into him that much. I'm more of a medic." He smiled, pulling out a few more books that Madeline had put in the wrong order - more than likely on purpose. "And don't worry about it - she's not as unforgiving as she tries to make you think. Just wait until she drops the icy facade - you'll see."

She cooed at the thought of these things having once even belonging to gods and goddesses--and then was doing her best not to get caught up in imagining Lex into a god himself . . .and virgins . .. girls . . . virgin girls . . . "That'd work really well on me," Stormy found herself commenting before, making a soft chagrined noise, she wiggled in place and strove to continue onwards before she died on the spot.

"Y-Yeah, he works more with tech stuff, like the Argus project. Him and Mimsy. But being a medic's cool too!" she was quick to say as if that might slight Lex somehow, God forbid. "I'm okay as one, but you could teach me sometime! I-If you want!"

Nope nope nope switching gears again this was not a good path to follow being alone with him more was not good for her right now.

Stormy winced and pressed the books closer to her, looking sheepish. "So she's not as mean as that? I hope so . . . Maybe we should show her the book before doing any other work, like a peace gift?" Or she'd go packmule it up right now with the stuff she'd been given at the order. She was very much sheeple on a regular basis, let alone the putty state she was in now.

Lex kind of just chuckled at Stormy, shaking his head at her little slip. "Yeah...it's worked well on more people than I expected it to." He grinned, drumming his fingers across the spine of a few more books. Stormy had enough to translate for the day, he thought with a grin. Yeah, Ami would be a bit annoyed at him not giving the Mist her full work load - but honestly, no one could be expected to work the way Ami worked. That woman was a machine that ran on grumpiness and tea.

"Hmm...sounds like a good idea, actually." He mused, thoughtful grin splaying across his face. "Though, she'd probably want to read it before you." He chuckled, knowing she would revel over new information. It was kind of cute, really.

Leading Stormy out of the aisle, Lex gave her a little nudge. "Don't tell cap'n I gave you a light load, m'kay? She'd give me another whole tablet to translate." He mocked, sarcasm definitely apparent. Because apparently he could only handle small texts.
