Vanya tried to stop him before he was in the hole with her but it all happened too fast. "No..I don't like this..you should have ran and got help to move the log!" She screamed at him from anger, frustration and sadness. She didn't want them both to be stuck down in this hole. She didn't want either one of them to be down here, she certainly wasn't going to trade places with him. "How would you even get me out of here when you couldn't before?!" She barked the question at him and limped her way over to the other side of the hole. She probably should have praised him but instead what she thought of his actions was idiocy. What he just did was stupid, she didn't see a way for them both to get out unless she figured out how to use her wings. Even if that was the case, could she even get him out on her back? Would it even be possible? She screamed out in frustration and anger as she looked at the sky. She hated this situation more than anything.

"Excuse me for trying be the better one, here." Caym's friendly front faded in to a deadly glare.

How dare she refuse his help?

HIS HELP.

When it was so unlike him.

"Someone will come for me." He stated confidently, shaking his head in disgust. "My home is on the other side of these tree's."

He lowered himself down to lay on the floor, rolling his eyes at the ridiculous situation.

"You can get out now. If you don't then you choose to stay and I can't be held responsible for what happens to you if you do."

He was only giving her fair warning. When the voices started, that was it.

In this confined space?

No, there would be no avoiding the situation. Only death.

"You were safer in here without me than you're with. If you don't trust me, then trust that advice and take the escape card."

"Cam you don't understand...I didn't want both of us to be in the hole...I wanted one of us to at least be able to get help." She spoke kinder and softer but then it all clicked together when he spoke of his home on the other side of the trees. "Wait..if your home is so close..why didn't you just run there and seek help?" She looked at him with lost eyes, confused eyes really. How could he have missed the obvious? He shouldn't have jumped into the hole with her. He should have ran to his home and gotten someone to get the log for her. But his chilling warning truly scared her, was he indeed the one that made the hole as a trap? "Cam...why should I be scared of you?" She hated to ask the question but felt like she really needed to know the answer. Deep down she didn't trust him, there was something off about him and she was concerned for her safety the entire time he had been around. But there was something else about him to, he had jumped into the hole and tried to save her and when she declined it, he got offended. She began to wonder just what made this little foal tick and what his story was.

"Look." He breathed a sigh.

"We do things on our own, there. Ok? Were a mafia herd. If I ran back for mummy and daddy's help, do you think my dad is just going to be. Ok son! Good boy. Lets go get her and make he feel welcome." He stared at her.

"No. It doesn't work like that."

He wasn't lying. She may of thought him a fool but he was doing her a favor.

Everyone questioned his intelligence, his ability to understand.

He was well aware of what he was doing most of the time, he had reasons behind what he did.

Everything he did.

It would of taken him forever to collect wet stones to have the log roll all the way to the hole but that was an option. Another, he could of thrown stones down and hoped they made a big enough pile that she could of climbed out that way.

With her injured leg?

She may of just hurt herself more.

She was the one who didn't understand, not him.

She didn't understand him and nobody ever would.

He liked it that way.

"My brother, sister." He paused. He would never live it down.

He turned his head away from her.

"If they saved you, you would spend every day of your life repaying a debt. I was trying to spare you that..."

WHO CARES.
KILL HER.

He gave a snort and closed his eyes.

"Mafia herd? You mean you don't get praised or receive love?" She asked with a soft tone and found herself slowly inching closer to him. "Cam..I had no idea. I'm sorry, do you forgive me?" She still had no idea what she was supposed to be afraid of but the foal before her now didn't seem so scary. As she got closer to him she ignored her fear and doubt and did what she thought was right. She moved closer to him and using her head she nuzzled his neck softly. "I won't abandon you" She chose to speak the only words that she was feeling. He had not abandoned her through the entire time she had been in the hole although he very well could have. She wasn't about to just up and get herself a free ticked out of the hole and leave him to the darkness in the hole.

The filly was on to something. She was quick to catch on.

Not something he figured she would do, since all she had done since he found her in the hole was cry and scream for help.

Plus rage at him some just for trying to help her yet... Now...

That had all blown away.

Instead of withdrawing away from him at the given information, which most would of chewed their own leg off if it meant escaping their clutches, she had took the opportunity to close the gap and made her way to his side.

His eyes were on her from their corners whilst he paused, wondering what she was doing. If she was going to take the ticket out of here he had offered her.

"Something...Like that." He uttered quietly, under his breath.

He froze at the show of affection. Her nuzzle in the fur of his neck.

Surely, for that brief moment he had stopped breathing.

He wasn't sure what to do but what he did know was that finally, the strings were being pulled and by opening up that little bit she was too.

"It's ok." He finally answered her, on the topic of forgiveness.

"You were right not to trust a stranger. I could of been anyone."

He gave a soft laugh. "Like a mafia bosses son."

"How did you stumble upon this hole then?" He asked, with a bit of an inkling. "Looking for shiny?"

Vanya liked the feel of his warmth against her. It almost reminded her of Shiny but he smelled nicer than this foal. "I heard someone yelling out and I thought they might have been in danger.." She had stopped nuzzling him but she didn't really move away from him either. Somehow it was a little comforting to be so close to him. "I stopped looking for Shiny after the first week." Sadness had crept back into her voice but she wasn't going to cry again. She didn't have any tears to cry with, she was only concerned with how they were both going to get out of the hole. "If you were to get me out of this hole Cam..who could I run to for help? My family lives a pretty good distance away from here.."She trailed off and thought to herself about who she had met recently. She didn't know anyone else but Shiny and her family and now the foal that she was so close with.

Revealing her reason for falling in to the hole made Cam draw silent.

He had been the reason she ended up in this mess.

He had caused her to injure her leg, to endure the suffering. Of sobs, pleading...

It gave him reason to feel triumphant, reason to believe he had already won this game but he wasn't going to tell her the whole truth of what he had been screaming about.

He held back mentioning anything just yet as she fell in to her own world of disappointment, eyes becoming dull at the loss of this person who was so important to her.

"Sorry... It looks like I got you in to this mess."

He frowned, looking to her eyes, his own deeply apologetic.

"I was running... Escaping..."

He swallowed, hard.

"There was so much arguing, so much shouting... I-I just had to get out of there." He looked as though he was afraid of something, as though whatever he was thinking about was physically swallowing him hole.

"That's when I met my good old friend, the tree. Who gave me a crash collision course." He gave a nervous chuckle. Waiting for the rage to surface in her again.

"I don't know if it will make you feel any better..." He moved his head closer to her, hesitating at first, to press his cheek against hers. Sharing her his warmth and the comfort she was providing.

"I am grateful that you chose to stay. You have a kind heart and whoever Shiny is, doesn't deserve your sadness or your tears." He smiled warmly. "Those who care for you will never make you cry, they will protect you from them."

He thought about who and gave a small shake of his head.

He would never resort to asking that flea-bag for help. He would rather drown before allowing that to ever happen.

"You should go. Get out of here before my parents show up. It will make me feel better knowing you're safe. I will be too, soon."

Darkness was spreading, the deep blues and purple hues eating away the orange and reds of the fading sun.

There wasn't a doubt that they would of come looking for him by now.

The moment his father found out that he was missing, an army of guards would be sweeping the forest.

His cards.

If they found Vanya in the hole with him, they would of blown his entire plan out of the water, blaming her for him being trapped in the hole and... Off with their head, would be the last thing she ever heard.

Vanya had figured it was his fault that she fell in the hole to begin with but what he said next surprised her and made her want to protect him. "Cam..I am not entirely sure who..or what was after you but I'll protect you." She didn't know how she was going to protect him when she couldn't even protect herself but she couldn't really imagine him getting hurt. He seemed to be completely afraid of whatever it was that had been after him. "It won't get you because I won't let it." She smiled at him, a genuine true and happy smile. Her father had always told her that she was filled with so much goodness and light that she could put the moon to shame in the night sky. She never believed him until she met Cam. Something about him was dark and she didn't completely believe it but something was off with him. She should run and leave him behind once she made it from the hole but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She wanted to stick around him for some reason and maybe the reason was to understand him. Somehow she felt like there was more to him than he wanted her to believe. "Cam if I allow you to let me escape from this torment of a hole...promise me that you will seek me out?" She nuzzled his cheek because she wanted to see him again. She didn't like the idea of leaving him in the hole but if the people he was speaking of were so dangerous, she didn't want to stick around.

Even though Cam had never been apart of the stories his mother shared, only being the result of them, he was starting to believe the unimaginable ramblings to be true.

She had told him each member of 'Heartland' had a certain lure to them, that couldn't be described, only that once it had you in it's clutches, you could never escape it.

Was that the charm he had? Was it the myth that was in his favour?

Whatever it was, he didn't care, so long as it continued to work it's magic on her.

She had the need to protect him but she could never follow that through. She could never know, or know how to protect him from himself but he gave her the belief that she could. from what force she could imagine he was running from.

"A decent gesture but I'm not sure you can... Kind of nice to know someone is looking out for me." He paused a moment, studying the smile she graced him with before dipping his head in return. "Thank you."

The next thing that came out of her mouth surprised him, generally expressing that with an expression to reflect it.

Eyes widening a touch, he blinked twice at her.

Mouth spreading in to a grin.

"You can count on it!" He laughed a little as she nuzzled him again. "Why wouldn't I?"

He gave her a short lived, enticing wink when his head was then snatched up-right towards the top of the hole. His ears lifted in alarm.

He could hear the thunderous beat of many hooves heading in their direction and immediately he sprung to his own, looking straight at her.

"It's now or never." He stated in a whisper. "Hurry, go. I'll see you... Soon."

Finally, crouching so she could climb on to his back and use her hind hooves to push off of him to make the leap out of the hole, he gave her the last smile he would have to mold until their next encounter.

Her heart had seized up inside her or at least that was how it felt. She was starting to wonder if it wasn't his very family that he was afraid of as she heard something drawing closer. Vanya allowed him to do with her whatever he wanted to let her escape the danger that was on coming. As she made it out of the hole, she tried not to scream and she shut her eyes as she was launched out of the hole. Her eyes opened a slit as she started to fall. The realization hit her that unless she did something, she would fall back down. She tried with all her might to stretch out her wings and make them move. A sharp pain went through her body as her wings expanded from her little body and tried to support her weight. She found herself looking down at Cam with excitement. With his help, she had learned how to user her wings! Her eyes closed and she used a large amount of concentration to get them to move and carry her away.

Cam watched out of the corner of his eyes as Vanya made the leap to safety. He had to narrowly move his head to the side to avoid any side swipes from her hooves as she did so.

All was going well until her body started slipping backwards. Cam's jaw dropped loose, if she fell from there she would most likely land on her back, causing a nasty injury.

One that was only indirectly caused from his actions, rather than him doing it.

He just wouldn't allow it.

He stood at full height to give her that extra shift and that's when the darkness spread over him.

Her wings out-stretched, were splayed out behind her and relief hit him like a wave.Watching how in that one moment, she had gained the use of her wings and was managing to support herself.

"Great! Whatever you're doing, keep it up. It's working!" He called up to her, nodding repeatedly, his eyes flashing with encouragement as she stared down at him in her excitement.

Now she could get away, he was reassured that it wouldn't be long before her saw her again and in that time, the ideas would spin a web of torture and torment making a perfect final plan of action.

All was left was to string her along until the pieces fit together like a hand and glove.
