The voice startled him, making him gasp, and he realized where he was. This... wasn't Rio. It wasn't some dinky back alley. He wasn't getting bullied, threatened by other kids. This was...
He shook his head, and ran forward, gritting his teeth as he brought the tonfas forward and slashed at the hunter's shield, attacks were frenzied and bewildered as the last of the illusion faded.

The tentacles....actually had Ofelia pause in her steps. She didn't move as a look of terror washed over the face that only moments before wore a grin that spoke volumes about her wanting to rip Jake's flesh off. Instead though she stopped as everything around her went bad, wrong, and it was the shattering of her shield down to half its prime that brought her attention back.
Her body was starting to sting as the pain decided it was time to seep through a shield that was cracking. Just as well though she was waking up more, her body getting ready for further combat, and Ofelia responded to Jake's backing away by cutting the distance between the two of them and delivering a strike that wasn't just a false swipe.
It was time to play, everything was going to turn red soon. It was only a matter of time before one of them gave out and a guttural cackle started to escape from the base of her throat. Ofelia wasn't going to fall, she was going to be the last one standing.

Dammit, with the illusion gone, Ofelia still hit as hard as ever, and he hissed out in pain from the blow. Luckily, his shield would prevent against more scars for the moment, but if he didn't keep his guard up, Ofelia would easily kill him. He had no intention of dying in a spar, and so, he delivered a counter-attack of equal strength, showing that he had every intention of taking this seriously, and no intention of backing down.

No, not without a fight. Ofelia wasn't going to just surrender and for every strike that Jake hit her with she returned one in kind. It looked as though it was going to be an all-out slug fest to the end, provided nothing happened that just tore her to pieces, and Ofelia was oddly okay with that.
She was going to keep fighting until the very end, until she couldn't even stand anymore.
And then...even then she'd find a way to get back up and kill him. No, a Sun couldn't stay down.

No matter what he did, it didn't seem to phase her. Each attack was just as powerful, never wavering. In a sense, he admired her. She never let things startle her, and even if it did, it never deterred her from her goal (which he was sure was tearing him to pieces), and he grunted as the attack tore into his shield, whittling away at it bit by bit.
N-no, he couldn't lose, he was so close... But fatigue was starting to weigh in on him, and his attack faltered slightly, though still managed to tear out a chunk from her shield.

And then she slipped up maybe, made a mistake maybe - her attack was far too shallow. Perhaps something was going on in her mind but still...it was enough. The roar on her hands let her know it was enough.
This time she'd hit him again with her charge, yes.

He was expecting a blow that would finish him off, but... her claws only managed to nick his shield. He... still had a chance... It was only then he noticed that she was charged, and there was no way she'd let him off easy this time. If he didn't get in a good attack... he was done for.
So he did... but... there was still a chance it would fail. And who knew, she might decide to hold it off. It was much too risky, and... her shield seemed to be nearing it's limit too, so...
His weapon already knew what he was planning.
There was... a possibility it wouldn't be enough, but... sometimes you just had to take a chance.
I'm sorry, Chester.
Eyes focused on Ofie, he desummoned the tonfa in his right hand, and pulled out the dagger. He didn't get a chance to use it last time, but this time... maybe... just maybe... He rushed forward, first swinging the tonfa at her, and then stabbed the dagger into her shield.

Apparently Ofelia was never allowed to use her charges because god forbid they ever connected or anything. Either way Jake dropped her to his knees with his cheap attack, something that actually got words from her.
"Coward. Cheating coward, hiding with an additional weapon because he cannot defend on his own." She said. Her words sounded weird, not her own, and even though blood was pouring off her shield Ofelia stood herself back up. She wasn't down yet, wasn't done yet.
Her legs were swaying beneath her as she got up and positioned for another attack. Jake would have to kill Ofelia before she would even stand down.

Either Ofelia was having a REALLY off day or she felt like giving herself a ridiculous amount of handicaps. He settled for the former. There was not way Ofelia would willingly take it easy on him. She was pretty sure if she didn't hate his guts by now, she would after he pulled that stunt.
"It's an artifact. They help you in battles." he replied calmly as he tucked it back into his sash. "And you're right. I can't win against you normally. I'll take whatever advantage I have to win. Because in a REAL battle, there's no such thing as mercy. It's kill or be killed."
That said, this was just a spar. Ofelia's shield was completely gone now, and to attack her further... he had no intention of killing her, let alone knocking her out. "This battle is OVER, Ofelia, you lost." He never thought the day would come, but... here he was. Really, he had been lucky as hell. If either of her charges hit, this would have been a very different outcome, but...
He sighed, as it seemed she had no intention of backing down. "I hate to do this, but if you won't stand down..." The other tonfa was summoned again. "I'll make you."

Ofelia stayed on her feet even after she staggered back from his attack and thin trail of blood issued itself from inside her mouth as the front of her clothing started to color itself the same red as her hair. It grew darker as it mingled with her clothing color, a rich brown now turned burgundy, and the Sun Hunter merely grinned angrily at the boy.
She didn't even have the energy to speak but she certainly wasn't going to fall. Suns never dropped down, they stayed standing. He had cheated, he didn't win this fight at all. It was such a cheat, a horrible cheat, and the anger that seethed from her body was practically unmistakable.
Ofelia was going to have her revenge, take him down and show him the true meaning of fear. Let him have this battle, it would taste all the sweeter when he was bleeding out at her feet. That being said the teen closed her eyes and passed out, still standing upright. She would remain upright, her entire will keeping her from falling down as everything about her went unconscious.
Ofelia would have her revenge.

The blades were dripping with blood as he stood over Ofelia. He... didn't want it to turn out this way. All he wanted was to fight, to prove himself, to show to her that he wasn't weak. He HAD gotten stronger, and so what if he won with some unorthadox methods? Students used FEAR attacks all the time. It wasn't his fault she had gotten unlucky. And... he supposed the artifact was somewhat underhand, but he had no choice. He hadn't been planning on using it, but if he didn't... the situation would be reversed. HE'd be the one lying in a pool of his own blood, while the sun hunter stood over his lifeless body, probably cackling in some maniacal way as she probably did during their last spar.
The weapons were de-summoned, and he clipped the keys to his sash, not bothering to wipe the blood off. He let out a sigh, and knelt down, scooping Ofelia up and started carrying her towards the infirmary.
