My school library has a decent collection of books, but I'm starting to realize that by the time I hit my senior year ( '08 ), I'll more than likely not be able to check out books anymore because I've read all the ones I'm interested in.

I was home schooled for middle school and high school, so I guess the school library would have been our home library. At the time, we had around four thousand books. So it was a pretty good library.
We also went to the local public library every three weeks (to return our books and get new ones). The branch of the county library that we went to was the best one within about thirty miles. I lucked out twice. smile

Our library has an okay selection. I'm in the good graces of the librarian so if there's a book I really want to read I can ask her to order it. Another perk is that when new books come in I can see them before they're shelved.

heck....my college library is horrible. I've long agao given up on finding any good books here after the day I tried looking for books from three diferant well known authors and found nothing.
Only library i like is the public on in my hometown. It's not all that big, but what they do not have can always be acquired through interlibrary loan.

sparklingbutterfly Our school library is horrible! all the books are: 1) from about the 70's 2) are all about boring subjects 3) We have 3 rows of stacks that is all, that is it. We FINALLY have got some new books like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Hey! Nostradamus and Speak (good book) and we have got a REALLY good libraian so things are looking up for our library. What about your school libraries? Not many good books, really. I don't recall even getting too many chances to look. My school has a separate building for freshmen not far from the main building, the freshman building which used to be the middle school untill this year, so I only know some of the selection in that library. Like I said, you don't get many opportunities (sp?) to the library. I guess one can go there after school, but we have this rule that kids who stay after must be with a teacher, plus, unless our parents are picking us up, we need a bus pass to go home.

I actually just started renting books from our school library. I haven't really gotten the patience to look around for a good book so I browse quickly for one that has a good cover. [Yes, For shame.] They're just so ... disorganized. No one puts books back where they belong! But actually, I picked up the book The Elephant Man by this chance, and I'm loving every page of it. 3nodding

My school lib is fine but the public one is reallly bad for the young adult section. They've been getting new ones though.

My school libary is good, with a mixed selection. However, after only a year I have read most of the stuff that interests me and the libarian is a creep.

My school library is a disgrace. It is lacking in interesting books but none the less I go anyway. It's the only place I feel comfortable... surrounded by books...

So, one or two people are satisfied with their high school / lower education libraries. I'm not surprised, but it does raise more disappointment to see so many people admit it. In high school, my library was roughly the same. We had a small selection of overused, out of date books and a small shelf of "regular" fiction that was absolutely awful.
My college library isn't nearly as bad, but I find the public library system to be a bit more rewarding. Also, public libraries in Michigan have this "read and return" section where some books are not placed on file with the library. Most of them are doubles or donated fiction, so the librarians don't mind if you take the book home, read it, and decide to keep it. I have found so many fantastic reads and old classics in the read and return section that I scour libraries in my area like a hawk. xD

It's pretty big. They at least have their own SF/Fantasy section, so I'm happy.

It's been a while, but I remember liking my high school library. Mainly I'd check out the classics and stuff from there and then go to the public library for more modern stuff.

My high school library is rather large for as small of a school as I go to. They subscribe to tons of magazines, there is a lot of refrence material, and of course a ton of novels. They get in about 10 new books each month, and the librarians are super nice and know me well. If you ask me, it seems like half of the school fund goes into the library and it makes me secretly happy to see the sports teams suffer because of it. Hahaaaa....yeah I hate sports.
