Efflo ran forward with his head turned, watching as Gabby soared into the air with a mighty roar. He was awestruck at his natural form, nearly running into a parked car when luckily Calder’s singsong voice snapped him out of his infatuated reverie and he shied to the side, narrowly avoiding it. He hoped Gabby hadn’t caught that embarrassing moment. The skull-faced horse bolted ahead as quick as he could, weaving in and out of obstacles right behind the mare. He really hoped Gabby wouldn’t guess where they were going, though as the giant Maul loomed ahead of them, it was pretty obvious. But maybe, Efflo desperately hoped, the dragon would see an opportunity to win instead of one to immediately turn around and fly home.

Gabby was actually truly focused on keeping the two horses in his sights, and not flying too far ahead, to notice what was ahead of him. He'd smacked into several trees this way, but as big as he was - the trees were the only ones that suffered. He slowly dipped down, slowing to a floating coast, just above Efflo, as he galloped off. He was a beautiful beast, which almost made Gabby too distracted to see the pole ahead of him. Almost. Once he barely managed to veer left of it, he looked ahead, and finally realized where he was going. If dragons could have screeching brakes..

The Maul was looming ahead, but there was a obvious lack of a dragon shadow over them. Turning about, Calder looked up to see that Gabby had slowed down. This wasn't good. Calder had to act fast.
If racing had gotten Gabriel up in the air, it would keep him going.
"HEY SLOW POKE! YOU'RE NOT MUCH OF A DRAGON IF YOU CAN'T BEAT US! SOME BOYFRIEND!" He called and then kicked off to run again.
Then, all too loudly, he called after Efflo. "BOY EFFLO! YOUR BOILFRIEND IS SOOOOOO SLOW FOR A DRAGON. CAN'T EVEN BEAT US TO THE MAUL!"

Efflo would have laughed in relief if he could; his heart had dropped when he’d notice Gabby slow down. He really wanted him to come! It just, it wouldn’t be the same without him. After all, the whole point Efflo was even going was to clean up his appearance so he’d look nice for the dragon. Gabby always looked so put together… Before he’d started Gabby, Efflo had never even paid any attention to his clothes. But now… The horse really hoped Calder’s plan would work. He snorted after the kelpie, wondering if Calder knew what he was getting into. Efflo surged forward, assuring himself that he’d make it up to Gabby later for the insults, somehow.

Calder was smart to try and get Gabby to race, but he'd made one, terrible, awful mistake. He'd confirmed what Gabby was already suspicious of, and with that, Gabby let out a roar into the air. The Maul. They were going shopping. He soared ahead, briefly considering whether slamming his entire body into the maul would excuse him from actually having to shop for clothing.

Doing what she could, she slowed down just to watch Gabriel and arrived at the entrance to the Maul, panting and trotting in place as she breathed out and looked up.
"Is your boilfriend okay?" She asked her friend.

He slid onto the ground at the entrance right behind her, wheeling around to watch Gabby. The faceless horse nodded, answering in noises only Calder, or another horse, would understand. "I think so but I don't think he's very excited about shopping..."

The distant roar that punctuated Efflo's comment also confirmed it. Gabby landed with a mighty gust of wind, and quickly shifted back down, covered in mist until he shrank down to his normal size and stormed out of the cloud. His hands were in fists and yes, he looked absolutely horrified. "Are you guys taking me shopppinggg?" The cold glare in his eyes didn't quite match the whine, but he certainly looked livid. "This is why you didn't tell me, in the first place." He pointed an accusing finger at Calder. "You're sneaky. You probably don't even like horns. I can't believe anything either of you say anymore."

Visiting the Maul was usually a social event for Thackery, but he was a little lonely and had only just recently discovered that he could make himself carry all of his things back to the dorm without actually having to carry them himself. It was a little complicated when explained in such a way, but it made perfect sense if you could see it happen, really.
As he neared the entrance, he heard someone bemoaning the idea of shopping. This would have depressed him a whole lot more had he not realized that it was Gabriel, fellow shadowling-battler and key-wielder. He also pretended not to like a thing and then did it anyway. Like kissing a pony. These were things that Thackery knew.
"Gabriel," he chided, hands on hips. "You've gotta like shopping. Everyone cool here likes shopping. And you're cool. Duh. But good joke!"

Gabriel crossed the line, and the kelpie's ears shot straight back. "HEY!" Nostrils flaring, Calder shifted back into his 2 leg form and strode right up to the dragon, pointing right at him. "I NEVER EVER lie about how I feel about horns. Don't you even DARE accuse me of false love."
Crossing his arms, he threw his mane as he turned on his hoof and moved to Efflo. "Efflo just said he had a cool boyfriend who cared about him so NATURALLY I thought he'd like to see him in skimpy outfits and protect him from any boils who would want to snatch him up. With a face like this, it's very possible." Calder smiled to his adorable friend and reached over to pinch both cheeks, tilting Efflo's head from side to side as he wiggles his face. "Just a cutie cattail pie. I'd gobble you right up if you wouldn't rot my teeth."

“We’re not sneaky!” Efflo argued, but he was interrupted by Calder’s cheek pinching before he could say more. His eyes went wide, skimpy outfits? Him? And Calder had said it right in front of the doggy boil too! He blushed, dark skin tinted with scarlet, and squirmed from the kelpie’s lavish attentions, running over to Gabby apologetically.
“I’m sorry,” he said, giving him a pitiful puppy dog look without even meaning to. “I just really wanted you to come with us…”

Oh, now he was getting it from three sides. Gabby could have fought against two of them. But three? THREE? A complimenter, a promise of skimpy outfits for Efflo, and a puppy dog guilt trip from the boil himself. This was so unfair. "For crying out loud." He grumbled, brushing past all three of them and heading to the doors. He slammed it open with one hand, walked inside, and then held the door open for them. Like a prince. Prince Grumping. "I'm here, all right? Let's go. Everyone inside, shop to your heart's content, as long as nobody tries to put anything on me." He gave Calder a thin look, before adding on; "And nobody gobbles up Efflo but me."

"Wait. Wait. Boilfriend?" Thackery held his hands up in a stop everything fashion, glancing between Efflo and Gabriel. "Okay, I know you're here together, but you're here together together? You're really together?" It was, admittedly, a little difficult to separate reality from daydreamed fiction in their case; he was almost certain that they'd kissed (twice!?) but he didn't think that this type of development happened before they all went home. Not actually, at least. It happened somewhere near fifty times in his head. A steady, high-pitched noise of excitement oozed past his huge grin as he awaited a response.

Calder backed up when Efflo rushed past him to beg to his boilfriend and then was brushed aside by a very grumy grump-face Gabriel.
When Thackery showed surprise, Calder hopped over to smile at him. "Efflo told me about him on the pier. He was soooo cute telling about how HANDSOME and NICE his BOILFRIEND was and how they KIiiissssseeeddd." Calder made sure to draw out the best parts of Efflo's giddy confession.
"Efflo, tell your friend about it." He said with a big grin.

Gabby just continued to hold the door, looking mostly un-nerved except for the dark color flooding his cheeks. Did they really have to make it such a big deal? "Yes, Thackery. Boilfriend. Now will my boilfriend and his friends please get the hell through this door before my arm falls off?" So where was this nice boilfriend Efflo was telling Calder about? He was nowhere to be found. At least he was handsome.
