It would swoop -- eventually. It would swoop the second she stepped out of the circle it marked out, breaking its slow spiral to dive down, eyes locked on its quarry.

Denebola was fast, now, her own magic adding to her speed and her movement, so there was no guarantee [for once] that Al-Janah's magic would strike home. It was, however, guaranteed to have some impact on her attack. The senshi had two options. The first was to focus on the man and ignore the bird, in which case it would slam into her back and knock her neatly to the ground, with scratches up her spine. The second was to dodge with all she was worth, giving up her opponent for the moment to grapple with his magic.

She should have expected the ghostly hawk to swoop in the minute she moved forward. She had hoped, and miscalculated, that her speed boost would put her outside of it's range. The senshi should have known better than to underestimate magic.

While she darted toward him, the movements of his magic lingered in the corner of her eye. Her heart hammered in her chest as she tried to quickly determine the best course of action. Would dodging be worth it? Would it be better to try and tackle Al-janah before the bird struck and hope that it would only amply the force of her lunge.

She swallowed, head turning slightly to eye the hawk before she lunged hoping her magical boost would allow her to slam into the dark mirror senshi before bird caught up.

Call it a draw; she'd get the rake of talons down her spine, but then she'd land on something that was, were it not for all the sharp elbows and knees, soft enough to break her fall, to take away the worst of the falling damage.

For his part, Al-Janah cursed creatively as they went down -- clutching at the senshi's sash and swinging for her face. In the midst of the fall, though, it would probably do not a whole lot more than glance off her cheek. Above them, the bird returned to circling, a quiet threat.

She let out a screech, despite her best efforts, when the talons scratched at her back. It tore at her back, ripping her fuku and piercing her skin. Blood trickled down her back and she could only grit her teeth because that wasn't the worst of it. The attack offset her balance and her lunge turned into a pathetic stumble downward.

He yanked at her sash and caught the side of face with his fist. She felt his knuckles briefly connecting with her cheekbones. It smarted now and would fair worse later.

They were a tangle of arms and legs and for a moment Dene was unsure of if she was on top or not. She tried to react quickly, pulling herself to her knees but her back ached, stung and bled slowing her movements.

"Cute party trick," she hissed aggravated that she had acted so poorly. Rocking back on the balls of her feet she sprung forward again intent on tackling him and pounding his face into the ground.

Al-Janah's response was to scramble on the ground -- back on his elbows, trying to wiggle his way out of the bird's circle so that when she pounced again, a second attack would fall on her like the wrath of God. This time, though, he didn't succeed. Her weight settled across him with his head outside of the invisible line. He could see the bird circling above, passing just over his eyes. Another 30 seconds, and it would be wasted.

He cursed again, growling and bringing hands up in front of his face to at least slow her attacks, to redirect them somewhere a bit softer. Not that much of him was babyfat, beneath her -- no. All lean muscle pulled tight over bone. Wiry and worn. It had been a strange year. He was still working on that.

She was straddling him again and while she wasn't getting to punch his face into the ground she was still hitting him. His hands protected him better than probably either anticipated and the continued blood loss from her open wounds on her back, and the repeated movement of her shoulder blades, left her a bit light headed. That lead to her movements slowing, weakening.

She couldn't keep the hiss of pain from slipping through her teeth when she stopped throwing punches because the ache began to affect her. For a brief moment her palms rested on his chest, fingers curling inward and digging into the fabric of his fuku.

She looked down at him, eyes narrowed and she moved quickly without second thought. Her hands slid up his arms to circle his wrists so she could pin his arms over his head. Her head was hazy though, and her movements slow.

With the girl on top of them, Al-Janah's time ran out: the red bird above them evaporating into the air around them, a waste of magic that he could summon again. He bucked under her, uncomfortably, his eyes on her face as she started to swoon and go fuzzy, battered and bruised and tender himself. Usually, this would be the time to crack a joke about their position, compromise her femininity -- but he simply felt too s**t.

Instead he twisted his hands in her grasp and his body under her, trying to dislodge her so that he could fumble his way up to his feet. It wouldn't be hard to win the battle, now that she was losing her strength, but he hesitated.

Mostly he just wanted to run. Maybe Al-Janah wasn't all that sure about the idea of hurting someone that badly...

Besides the general enjoyment of beating each other up, both senshi seemed to be on the same page when it came to just wanting to get the ******** away. For the senshi of dragonflies it was simply because it was probably in her best interest to get her back attended to. That, and she had reach the limits of her energy. She was tired.

Tired of fighting.

When he resisted, she let him go far too easily and rocked back onto the balls of her feet. She stood as quickly as she dared, teetering forward from the rush of blood and lightheadedness. She stared down at him for a moment, hesitation threatening to overtake her before she danced backwards.

"I'd--" she started, having to stop to take a shaky breath. "I'd really think about the consequences of breaking in next time," she told him trying to sound threatening. It wasn't working so much any longer, he could probably see right through her facade. "Won't go so easy next time," she warned.

She shook her head, mismatched eyes traveling over him once before she turned on wedged heels and took off.
