Aventine was visibly startled—more so now that the General didn't seem to have any control over his youma. "Well, why is he doing it now?" she demanded, rapidly stepping backwards. She was putting enough distance between herself and them that it seemed appropriate to shout. "—I think I should just go. I mean, if you can't get that thing under control, I'd seriously like to make it home in one piece. No hard feelings or anything, but I should probably just hit the road, uh…it was good talking with you, you don't—"
She hesitated. "—Are you gonna be okay?"
The General had been nice enough; he one of the only ones she found herself tolerating—one of the only ones she actually wanted to converse further with. It would be a shame if his 'family' had decided tonight was a good night to off him.
Youmas were dangerous. Even if this one had been well behaved, she wouldn’t have been able to shake her concern, but this one wasn't even listening to a General—what the hell had she done to piss it off that much?
…Too much perfume?

This was too much to bother with. He couldn't have his own image and reputation put into question because Argwain was deciding to be a little rebel with him and not listen. It was upsetting that his partner, someone who had saved him on various occasions, was acting this way. Was he upset to be called without a reason other than to show up? When did Argwain ever care why he was called? He had always been the silent type anyways, and never put up much of a fuss. Wolframite was actually a bit surprised how he even managed to have such a well-mannered youma from the start before the process in the Rift had been introduced.
In a blink, Wolframite teleported out of the youma's grip and stood between the knight and the youma. "I'm fine." He told her, in a tone that said he in no way wanted to be questioned by anyone that he wasn't powerful. Despite feeling more powerful than the knight, he still stood at a angle to make sure he didn't have her out of sights and his back wasn't fully to her.
"Argwain. Stop." He told it, and it lowered it's land before pointing it's metal gauntlet at the female knight.
"Yeah. It's under control." He told it, but that didn't seem to make the youma back off any. Instead, it pointed it's lance at him, pointed at the female knight, at him, and then, in a flash, disappeared.
He....He didn't desummon Argwain! The youma left on his own?!!
Feeling the same sort of shock in having a friend just hang up on you, he just started and then opened his mouth. "What the hell?!" Yes, he swore. He was that upset!

Aventine lingered, but only because the General seemed to be genuinely upset about the display of his youma. A part of her still wanted to run, but the other part was the slightest bit concerned for his well being. He hadn't been rude or cruel before, and she was concerned that he was genuinely distressed.
…Plus, she was a bit curious.
Just also scared.
That thing had come out of nowhere and left just as quickly.
…And Aventine had moved closer to Wolframite because she trusted him more than the youma. "Where…where did it go? Is it going to come back, or like…jump on me the second I make a run for it?"

His eyes snapped over to the girl, aggitated by what had happened. "No, he won't come back. He went back to the -" He paused, and decided not to give the information away to where youmas came from and went to as it wasn't her place to know. "-back home." He ended, and tried summoning his youma back again. There was no response.
Something had happened to Argawain and he wasn't sure what. It would require going all the way to the Rift and finding him.
"He's throwing a hissy fit. That's all. It's been a while since I called him. I usually never need to bother him. Maybe he felt restless." He explained on behalf of the youma in hopes of not souring the knight's perception of them.
He took a breath and turned to her. "I'm sorry. He's usually..." Well, not cuddly or sweet, but not that. "..better."

Aventine took a few extra seconds to mull over what had just happened, twiddled her thumbs, and then breathed a sigh of relief. "All right," she said, though still didn't seem entirely convinced. "Well, I hope things work out for you two."
She might not have liked the youma, but Wolframite had been polite enough that she wouldn't mind speaking with him again. It was few and far between that any agent of the Negaverse was good company. But then again, at least he was human.
"If he's jealous of me stealing all your time, I can take a step back, let you go work things out. It's getting late, so I should probably be heading back, anyway…If you don't mind, of course."

"He's not my girlfriend." Wolframite stated in a monotone, thinking it a bit ridiculous that she was treating his youma like a jealous partner when he was in no way like that. "He probably thought I called you because I was in trouble. I don't usually bother him. I can take care of myself and leave him to do his own work." Whatever that was. As he saw it, he felt Argawain was like the other intelligent youma who lived their lives in the Rift. Even with that it mind, it was hard to imagine him with a little house or possibly friends. The youma didn't do much but grunt and stab.
"Go on. I'm not keeping you." He then remembered. "I wouldn't mind talking to you again, if you don't mind."

"Oh, well." Aventine shifted positions. "Girlfriend or not, I guess you're lucky you've got someone so loyal to watch your back."
Even if he did seem a bit unstable and untrustworthy, whatever. Wolframite seemed to think everything was under control, so that worked for her. "If you want to talk again, I wouldn't mind. You seem like a pretty knowledgeable kind of guy. I like you a lot more than I have the other Negaverse people around these parts. Do you have like, a way to contact you or should I just keep my eyes peeled?"

"Hmm. I have plenty of people who watch my back. It's part of being with the Negaverse." Though he had just as many who probably would stab said back if he wasn't careful.
"I can make it a habit to patrol here during the weekends. That way if you want to show up, you can. If not, well, no big deal." It also meant no one would feel as if they were meeting at a set date and time, thus meaning they could be ambushed.
He took a breath. "As much as the Negaverse comes off as just blades and fists, we are still soldiers and people who like to talk and make allies in our fight to protect our planet. I hope you come to understand this."

His last few words had a greater impact on Aventine than she was willing to admit; it was sometimes easy to forget that the Negaverse wasn't just a bunch of psycho-crazy bad guys. They were people, beneath all that evil. Fighting for their own reasons, and with their own motivation.
People, just the same as her.
She swallowed and nodded, combing her fingers through her hair as she tried to sift through her thoughts. "Yeah," she finally agreed. "I'll keep that in mind. I'll try to poke around here on the weekends, see if we don't run into each other again." Not that she was sure she wanted to risk seeking out a General that wasn't just interested in conversation.
Still, she felt a bit reassured—even if she did have a lot to think about.
Raising a hand, she waved. "Catch you around, Wolframite. Thanks for the chat!"

Rubbing the back of his neck, he gave a small wave back. He was busy thinking about his rogue youma now, but at least it wasn't being held too strongly against him or the Negaverse.
"Likewise." He said, and then, looking at the spot where Argawain had been, he took a breath, and then teleported away.

The General teleporting away was a strangely huge relief; Aventine waved at the empty space for a long moment before her smile fell and she exhaled.
He didn't seem so bad. Really, honestly didn't seem so bad.
The youma was another story, but she immediately likened it to a large, unruly dog.
She had a large, mostly not unruly dog. She knew how hard it was to keep him in check once he'd made his mind up about something.
Tonight, she would give Wolframite the benefit of the doubt.
Hopefully when they met again, she wouldn't regret it.
