Tau laughed at Vollerei's eager response. She was a woman: of course she would want to hold something so fluffy and adorable. It was in their nature, regardless of what species they were. "Here, just be careful. The thing is fragile." He handed the kinfa over to Vollerei and bent over to retrieve the feathered headdress that the kinfa had fallen into. So full of sand.
Tau grimaced at more sand he had to brush off and finally righted the thing back onto his head. "Four radaku at least." Now he was starting to embellish the story a little, kinfa probably only got to be four radaku at best. "I had to take one down one time. Alone. With my bare hands." He gestured to the size of it and made an aggressive face. "It was a piece of cake." He flipped his hair in arrogance. Truth be told, he had never even seen a live wild kinfa adult, let alone had to fight one. But the Alkidike didn't have to know that.
"And of course you don't know my name. It's hard to introduce yourself when you're being called vulgar." He motioned with his arms in attitude. "My parent's call me Taudor, but that's really a terrible name. Call me Tau." He pointed his thumb at his chest in introduction.

Volle smiled down at the bundle of soft fluff and began to scratch the little thing under the chin. So soft!
She snorted at the male... at Tau's boast of beating a Radaku. Thin bony pike of a person like him taking down one of those beasts? Ha! She snickered and cocked an eyebrow at him.
"You know, you shouldn't lie, oh thin and frail one," she drawled. "I have confronted a Radaku with backup from a sister who's a Blade. The thing was huge! I think the two of us may have taken it on and beaten it, but you?" She looked him up and down and smirked.
"Get some muscles and scars on that bony frame and then I'll believe you!" She chuckled to herself as she fluffed the purple ball in her lap. Really! This man! She knew a tall tale when she heard it! You heard them all the time from young warriors and hunters trying to impress each other back home. She knew that she outweighed this earthling and she tended to equate mass with strength. She knew her weight had given her advantages against thinner and smaller sisters when sparring, and thought she could take him out in a fight. No way he took on one of those beasts alone!

Tau felt the steam blow out of him in one disappointing gust. Well, that sure didn't take long. Vollerei had seen through his fib in no time at all and Tau sure wasn't too keen on her mocking him and calling him scrawny.
True he wasn't in any way physically adept... and he should have seen this coming, but for a woman to insult him like this? He would have liked to have pouted and turned the other way, but his hurt pride was still enough to get him to man up. He folded his arms and huffed under his breath, "You must be weaker than you look then.."
Before Vollerei could turn the insult back on him and call him out on his own tall tales again, he turn the attention to something else. He pointed at the kinfa and rubbed his nose. "So... what are you gonna do with it? I can't keep it. My mom would kill me. She thinks the things are messy and smell up the house." His mom was against pets of all sorts and all for the same reason: the mess. His mom was usually the one who ended up feeding and caring for the thing and picking up after it, so eventually she got tired and just said no to everything.

Vollerei raised an eyebrow at his huffed comment but decided to not tease the skinny one further. She had keen hearing, it came from her many hunts, sometimes hearing was the only way to sense prey in the thick canopies of the jungle at night.
She was going to needle him about his being afraid of his mother, but prudence stopped her. She knew her mothers hated mess and could be quite scary when angry, so why shouldn't his? Plus from what he'd just said, it meant she had to take the fluffy creature with her. And to keep it from dying, she'd need his help. So instead she said, "I don't mind taking care of it. But I have no clue on what it eats or needs or anything... And mess doesn't matter when you aren't in a house. And since I won't be returning home for a while, that won't be a problem."

Tau looked at Vollerei holding the kinfa with surprise. She would keep it? He guessed that that was what he was hinting at, but he didn't think it would be so easy. He had thought for a second that he would have to go back and try to find it's nest, as impossible as that would be.
At least she was going to feed it... though she could just be fattening it up for her to eat herself. Tau eyed her a little suspiciously before caving and telling her what she would need to know. Or at least what he could help with. A woman would probably know much more than he would about caring for babies, no matter what species the baby was.
"I've never had one, but they eat meats and berries from what I've seen. Besides that... it's so small it probably needs to be kept warm at night, and it probably shouldn't fly too much till it's a few weeks older." He rubbed his head in thought before speaking again. "There's actually a couple of villages in the south that could help you with learning what to feed it. They're in the southern forest and their whole work is mostly capturing and raising kinfa, so they have to know more than I do."

Vollerei saw him look suspiciously at her. Okay, so she probably shouldn't have asked if it was edible, but you never knew! She smirked at him and his simple instructions. That was it? So simple.. though maybe it wouldn't be as easy as it sounded. How would the little one react to her hunting? Would she actually be able to hunt or would she have to leave it behind somewhere safe to hunt?
"Hmm.. I might just go seek out this tribe.. I've been meaning to explore more of this place so it's not out of my way..." She pursed her lips as she held up the baby kinfa and asked, "What should I name it, Tau ? And is it a girl or boy?"

Tau was a bit surprised at Vollerei's questions. He scratched his head and tried not to look too embarrassed. "Uh... I couldn't tell you actually. I don't know how to tell them apart."
For earthlings, and obviously for Alkidike, it was so easy to tell. All Alkidike were women in theory... and all earthlings... well, their parts were super easy to tell apart. Tau thought about this. Birds... were different. He had never even been close enough to a kinfa to ask an owner how to tell.
"You might need to ask around about that. That's the one thing I can't help with."

So he couldn't tell? Oh well, she'd find someone who could! Probably at this village he'd mentioned earlier. Vollerei looked at Tau with a glint in her eye. Should she tease him some more?
"That's the one thing you can't help with? So you can help me everything else...right?" A grin lurked on her face. This would be a wonderful opportunity to see what types of food the earthlings had!

"Uhhhh..." Tau took a step back from Vollerei. This woman... she was looking at Tau like he was a tasty snack or something. It unnerved him... even though he knew that to women he probably did look like a tasty snack. Who knew what an Alkidike like this one was thinking.
He tried to answer while still sounding hauty. "Of course I can help you." He tipped his headdress back with his thumb. "I am me after all. A man like me would be able to help any woman, even an Alkidike." he puffed his chest out in exaggerated pride.

Volleei grinned, "Good! Then you can take me to your village, show me about then fed me! Always wondered earthlings lived and what they ate...." Getting shown about the place would be better then sneaking in! Maybe she could convince them to show and feed her the tasty foods that they just had to have! And then teach her how to make them.... "And if you don't," she shrugged, "I'll just stalk you there and ambush a cook and get them to feed me. I'm tired of hunting for food and want to taste new stuff!"

Tau held his arms up in a halting motion. "Woah woah there woman. Slow your roll. I know I said I could help you... but how do you even know if I have time to show you around right now? I could be late for something, you know?" Of course, Tau wasn't in any way late for anything, or in a rush. But he was a little queasy feeling about willingly bringing and Alkidike back to the village. No one there despised them or anything, save for a couple of old farts who were stuck with their heads up their... well, you know how it goes. But people were still afraid. And Vollerei definitely looked the part of scary. Her scars were enough to make the other women cringe. It was only his ever present courage that made him so steady when meeting this Alkidike woman here.
And plus, if he brought her back he might be in trouble, and punishment was something he would gladly avoid.
He quickly weighed his options. If he didn't take her... she'd just come anyways... and that would probably cause an uproar and plenty of women to weep and faint and the whole works. It'd be a mess. He was actually doing the village a favor by bringing her there with him.
He put one hand on his hip and pushed his headdress back with the other. "Meh; why not? I'm a nice guy. And a woman like you shouldn't travel alone when I am obviously available to help." He shrugged. "Come on."
He was feeling a little bold and powerful, being the one to lead the Alkidike to his village, and grabbed her hand. He would find out in a second if that was a bad idea or not, and began to tug her toward the trees surrounding Yera.

Volle covered a grin. Him, busy? Oh really? Then why was he out here talking with her? Busy people always made small talk then left to go do their business, not like this garish person. She actually wanted to go and try sneaking along and kidnapping a cook, that sounded fun! So she was a little disappointed when Tau said he'd show her about. Oh well, maybe later she try abducting a cook....
"A woman like me? Is that supposed to mean something?" Vollerei cocked an eyebrow and tried to look offended as she attempted to tease him some more, but she couldn't keep a smile from slipping out. This person was weird and funny. She allowed herself to be pulled along for a bit, but once the fuzzy Kinfa began to squirm she tugged her hand back and held it with both hands to make sure she didn't drop it.

Tau shrugged his shoulders, letting her hand fall away and back to the bird. "You know. A woman. You would probably be lost in no time if I weren't with you." He knew he was sort of pushing the limits with his comments, but hey; if she didn't hear it from him, she would probably hear it from someone else. She had never met a man before, so she didn't know how lost and incapable she really was yet.
He sent a smirk her way and winked, something he knew for sure would send shivers down her body, probably the kinfa's too if it were female. Mhm. Yep, he still had it.
He was running and finger through his hair when he realized just how close they were to the village. Oho... this is where it would get interesting.
"... Soooo... we're sort of here." He pushed past the last of the undergrowth and walked into the edge of the village.

Women get lost without men? Well this was new! Alkidikes got along just fine, and Vollerei knew that she didn't' get lost too easily! Men were delusional it seemed.... She shook her head at his back as he turned and winked at her, silly person! "I don't think I've ever seen a man among the Alkidikes, and we get along just fine. Don't think Ive seen many Alkidikes get lost nor do we seem to be missing out on too much. Are all men as delusional as you?" She smirked.
At last, new food was near! "How can we be sort of here? We either are here or not." She peered at him, "You sure it's not men who get lost without women?"

Tau gaped a little at Vollerei's response. This one sure was cheeky. He crossed his arms in defense. "I am not delusional. Maybe I'm just a realist." Or maybe he had no clue what he was talking about. Truth be told, as much as he wanted women to need men and him in particular... it didn't really seem all that necessary. Well... at least some parts of men were necessary to women. The thought sent a stupid smile across his face before he realized he was still with someone.
He cleared his throat and pointed in the direction of the village behind him. "Well... you see... we're here... but I don't exactly know how everyone will react to an Alkidike such as yourself... wandering on through and demanding meals." He tugged at his cloak collar and gulped nervously. "Should I, well, take you... somewhere?" He hadn't quite decided where it was that he should take her really. To his house, to this local garden he had been hearing about, to some other place in the village that serves food? Tau had no clue. He knew of one inn nearby that people traveling could go to and would probably be the safest place... probably.
