Always. You deserve nothing less, Pipith answered warmly. Unfortunately, because he was too busy talking - and assuming that because Cepheith liked him, he'd be safe - the bronze was shocked to be struck. It wasn't bad, but...but she'd hit him! With her claws!

Oh, goodness! This was one of those females. Nachith was quick to dart out of the way, and make note that this Queen was to be given a wide berth. As wide a one as he could give her, anyway, given that he was trying to chase her. This was worrisome, though; he did not like rough Flights.

Had she taken notice of him? He was sure she had! Why she had looked right at him! (Nevermind that her gaze had also swept across the others in the air alongside him) Plexith crooned softly at her as she turned and shot towards them. His lovestruck crooning was not enough to make him completely scatterbrained however and he wheeled away from her charge just in the knick of time before folding his wings and diving after her.

She was fast, but so was he, and he dodged out of the way, turning to continue the chase. This was going to be a rough flight, he could tell, but that was alright. That only made it twice the fun.
He rumbled in pleasure, but watched the queen warily. She was a tricky sort, and he had to be prepared to change direction on a dime. Luckily, he was pretty good at that, and he was going to put all of his effort into getting things done.

Calanoth was proud of that start, even as he flew alongside a few other males. More were behind him than in front and that suited the bronze just fine. That Cepheith chose to speak to the smallest bronze bothered him only a little. It was better Pipith got a pity word of encouragement than one of the larger bronzes got her praises.
Calanoth crooned as she rose higher into the evening sky, the sun's dying rays lighting her hide seemingly from within. Her tuck into a dive was swift and impressive. Calanoth loved this stunt though. Instead of crowding towards her or struggling away in fear, Calanoth arced in the air, bending his wings and looping around and over to follow her in her new direction. She would have to try harder to knock this experienced chaser out of the skies. Till then Calanoth sang his wordless song of love.

The sting of claws on hide certainly didn't deter Tauvolanth. She'd need to do a great deal more to him than that to deter him from the chase... and he certainly wasn't about to let Calanoth win again! That'd just be embarassing to the rest of them. Hit me again, beautiful, I like my Flights rough, he called, mindvoice full of good-natured laughter.
He'd had a start that wasn't quite up to par, thanks to having to get out of the queen's way before he could take off and thanks to having half a herdbeast in his belly before she called to chase. But that certainly wasn't going to throw him off. It was only the first round, and what mattered would be who could go the distance, not who was first out of the gate. He tucked his wings in and dove after her, letting gravity do the work for him this time.

Animith crooned a response to her compliments, matching her twists with one of his own. He could do tricks! See? See! For you, loveliest of all Cepheiths, I would pick apart the brain of a poet and devour it whole. Another croon, eyes vivid purple by this time and... well, he didn't duck quite fast enough.
His left upper leg's hide split a good amount, ichor already dripping but his legs were not his wings! They were not his tail! He still could fly and fly he did, doubling back with a crow of enthusiasm.
I do so love a lady that draws blood, starlight, so long as it is you that chooses the winner. He snapped his teeth in an Animith's version of a laugh, doing his best to speed up. Silly stupid other bronzes. He had, of course, already received a call of compliment from the lovely. Bite me, claw me, feisty is good.
Somewhere, L'ib sighed, his hand in anothers, and shut the weyr from others. Honestly. You'd think Animith actually knew what he said.

Although N'mol had known it was inevitable, he had spoken to Tyeth about the wisdom of chasing Cepheith when the time came. Tyeth had understood his rider's feelings for Kindra, but a Gold was a Gold. Though Tyeth had a particular affection for Suunath, he was a Bronze of worth. Young, yes, but a Wingleader and an extremely attractive male at that. Bronzes flew Golds, and Tyeth would be no exception.
He made sure to keep himself to the middle. He would not expel a great deal of his energy all at the beginning when he was sure to need a reserve of it later on, but he didn't want to fall so far behind that a last-minute play would be wasted, either. The striped Bronze kept his distance from the majority of the other competitors, staying silent, biding his time for when a display of talent to Cepheith would best serve him.
Tyeth watched her attack on the males around her with clinical detachment. He would be wary of her claws, when the time came.
With this note made, Tyeth used sure wingstrokes to bring himself slightly above the other males.

The brown had a decent start though not as good as some others. Still, when dove to down past all her challengers, Brynth made sure to stay out of her way and then began to try to make up for the lost distance. So many here! He had to make sure she knew him!

Iwieth was pleased with this young gold. She would show everyone how clever she could be and only the best would catch her! And wouldn't it be grand if the best was a brown? As she flew up to catch the sun and dove back down, Iweith managed to move out of her way just in time, catching a breeze off her wings.
Rumbling to himself, he used that to his advantage to see if he could get any closer.

Ah, look at how they reacted. She was quite impressed with how many had managed to twist and dive along with her. The Queen bugled her pleasure at this, deep violet eyes taking in each of her suitors, though her focus fell more on those that were closest. Hatteth, I am glad to hear this! It is nice to see such a strong Brown among so many Bronze. She crooned. Laughed. And then let herself spin in a barrel roll before a thunderous roar escaped.
Then show me what I do deserve, dear Pipith. Cepheith teased her small Bronze friend, wings pumping hard in a spurt of energy as she climbed to gain height. It was quite evident that the Queen was having fun. And flirtatious. She teased those that were close, slowing her pace enough to allow Calanoth to have that brief moment of feeling that she was going to warm up to him... and then she dipped a wing and turned sharply, cutting across all her chasers.
Tauvolanth, however, got a tail whack as her change in direction took her right across the Bronze's path. Careful what you ask for, sweetheart! Cepheith laughed. Of course it was Animith that got quite the warm feelings of appreciation and consideration. Ah, but I do so love a fine dragon. Tell me, sweet and poetic Animith? Are you that dragon?
She felt the mental sigh form her rider, who was - for the moment - ignoring all those that were gathering nearby. Cepheith just snorted at this. There were still too many. Only the finest of them would be worthy! Angling her wings slightly, the Queen made a large arch, taking in all the males following, before angling down towards one of the lakes. With a sassy flick of her tail, Cepheith dove towards the lake, pulling up at the last moment to skim the surface. The tips of her toes brushed along the water's surface, creating little rifts and waves. Each wingbeat created even more as she headed towards the opposite end of the lake.

Scarath was so so far behind the gold and her group of bronzes and browns. He wasn't sure he even had a sliver of a chance to catch up. The bronze kept his mind on trying to close the gap between himself and the others. There was no sense in wasting his breath or flirting if he never got close to the lovely gold.

She had noticed him! Cepheith had noticed him and called him strong! Sure, she had noticed a bunch of bronzes and spoke to them too, but that was to be expected, and she'd talked to him first. Hatteth bugled his excitement and tried to push himself to go even faster.
As she began to turn, Hatteth tried to judge where she was going next so he could try and cut her off. But instead she dove sharply, and Hatteth was not as quick as he would like to follow. He kept a sharp eye on her as they descended. Was she going to dive in? But no, she pulled out of the dive just barely above the surface. Hatteth swerved to follow, but misjudged the turn and his front feet dragged through the water briefly before he pulled them clear. It did not slow him down much, but enough that he gained no ground on the glittering queen.

With her last little trick, Plexith had fallen behind the lead group and so he saved his word, stretching his neck and driving his wings as hard as they would go. He was still close just not as close as other and ah..what was this? Was she turning? She was! Plexith.. farther behind and therefore more able to see the path such a turn would take her changed course with a quick dip of one wing and chortled at his cleverness when his tactic brought him back with the leaders in the chase.
Cepheith dove for the water and Plexith followed but kept slightly above her, whirling eyes watching her every movements...and of course now that he was back near the front where he belonged he could take the time to say a few pretty words to her. 'Not even the sun on the water could match your beauty" He crooned at her sweetly.

I am what you deserve, Pipith insisted. There is no better dragon in the sky. Except for you, of course. Unlike some of the others, charming with pretty words was not the little bronze's strong suit, and never had been. But it was the thought that counted, right? Of course, if that were true, he'd have been in the lead, because he sure was thinking about winning this Flight. Actually doing that was...not going so well. He couldn't seem to get close to Cepheith for anything - every time he tried, there was someone blocking his path!
Frustration building, he snarled and lashed out any other dragon he could reach. This distraction could have cost him dearly, as he barely pulled up in time to avoid crashing into the lake.
That would have been a terrible end to the Flight.
