Happy Father’s Day!

Tristan had heard about "Father's Day" from children at the playground. He'd wondered for a long time, what to give Urban that he didn't already have. He already had Sol. He seemed happy enough with her, too--so what would make Urban even happier? It had to be something special. Something with meaning. A cake? The minun pondered the idea as he paced in front of their home. No, that wasn't nearly good enough. A stuffed animal? No, Papa had Momma to cuddle with. He didn't need a stuffed animal. A screwdriver? He didn't think he'd seen papa trying to fix things before. A book? No... A lamp...?

This was too hard! The minun was almost in tears. What was he going to get Papa? He didn't have much time left. It was almost Father's Day! And--the minun froze, he'd spotted movement in a bush. "Hello?" he asked, blinking. He slowly made his way over there--and suddenly, found himself in the air. A long, black tail had coiled around him. "Do you want to play?" the shadow mew asked, tilting her head. "You seem unhappy."

Tristan paused, glancing back at his home. "We can play," he said. "But first, can I give you to my Papa? I want to give him the best present ever, and I think you're it!" The mew paused, blinking in thought. "Yes, I am the best present," she agreed. She was the best anything, after all. She was the best, period! "I will let you give me to your Papa." She put Tristan down, and allowed him to hold onto her tail as he led her inside. "Papa! I got you a Father's Day present!"

Urban was in the kitchen making a snack for himself and Tristan who he knew was playing out front. He'd been on babysitting duty for the day and didn't mind it so much honestly. He heard the door open and he called out "Your snack is almost ready Tris, have a seat at the table." and he came out then with a plate with fresh fruit on it, only to nearly drop it seeing him hanging onto...a cat? No...a Mew! ....what the..?

Tristan climbed onto his chair at the table, and took a piece of fruit and stuffed it into his mouth. "Papa, see, here's your Father's Day present! She said she's the best Father's Day present ever! Isn't she pretty? Can we keep her Papa? Can we, can we? Please? I found her out in the bush and I think she'll let us keep her! Please, Papa?" The minun set large brown eyes up at Urban hopefully. "I found her just for you!"

Oh the minun sure knew how to wrap Urban around his little finger honestly. Especially those large brown eyes and that hopeful expression. He was torn though...after all there was Solange to think about...but this was a Mew...who'd apparently decided to allow Tris to keep it....

"Alright Tristan we can keep her." The rest of the words hit him. "A fathers day present?" oh the surprise!

"Yep! I wanted to get my Papa the best Father's Day present ever!" the minun exclaimed, thrilled with with his father's answer. They could keep her! They could keep his Papa's present! "And I looked and looked, but I couldn't find any good enough. Because my Papa is the best papa ever and needs something special. But nothing was special enough..." the minun pouted. Honestly, shops needed to have more variety on their father's day gifts! "So I found her! And she likes us!" The mew in question wrapped herself around Urban's neck gently. "So I'm your present," she mused. "I wonder what you've done to deserve me."

Urban was very unsure of what to make of the Mew, especially the odd coloring, but here she was. He gave a light smile. "Well...I adopted Tristan here...and moved my girlfriend in...and got my friend away from his psychopath boss...normal things for me really as far as work is concerned." he didn't think he'd done anything special. but Tristan had different thoughts it seemed.

"Hmm..." Tania mused, playfully moving to rub her cheek against Urban's. "I suppose this is acceptable. The minun there seems to think you're quite special."

Tristan interrupted, cheeks full of fruit, making him look like he'd just been to the dentist--or attempted to eat several socks. "I don't think he's special!" he exclaimed, mouth full. "He is special! He's the best Papa there ever was!"

"Don't talk with your mouth full Tris, you know you could choke." a gentle admonition as he reached up to lightly scratch the Mew's chin. "And do you have a name? Or do we need to think of one for you?" simply curious really, one never knew. "I'll have to find somewhere for you to sleep too. Maybe for tonight you can share Tristan's bed."

Tristan swallowed, making a face at Urban. He still hadn't gotten the hang of all these manners he was supposed to learn. Blegh. Why did they exist, anyway? He felt they must have been made up to bother him. "Okay, Papa," he agreed reluctantly.

The mew on Urban's shoulder began to purr as he scratched under her chin. Mmm... He was special after all. Anyone who could find that spot--yes, yes, this man was deserving of her presence. "I have been called many things," Tania mused. "Children shout 'Mew, mew!' when they see me, but I do not think that is my name... Once, a woman called me Tania, but I think she was looking for someone else. Tania, I like that. Can I have this name?"

Urban's fingers continued to scratch under her chin then moved up to scratch behind her ears as he moved to the kitchen to get Tristan something to drink, it being set down, and he bending to hug the Minun. "Thank you for the present Tris, she's perfect." he smiled warmly, and then looked to the Mew. "Tania it is then. I think thats a fine name for you."

Urban and Tristan's walk (Tristan's star finding)

Urban had decided a walk was in order. It was a nice evening, a light breeze, not too hot or cold. Simply perfect. Solange was out and about for the evening dealing with something, so it was him and Tristan. So they had gone to the park and were slowly making their way back home and star gazing a bit.

"Look Papa!" Tristan pointed up towards the sky. He'd spotted a constellation. It looked somewhat like a cup used for baking, but the minun was sure that wasn't what it was called. The constellations all had strange names, like Perseus and Hercules. He'd seen those in a glow in the dark picture book at the library! "What's that one called? Oooh, and that one?" He pointed to three stars in a straight line. "And what's that?" he pointed to a particularly bright star. "It's bigger than the rest."

"Well lets see...that's the big dipper...and the little dipper...and..." Urban tried to recall the various names of the constellations as Tristan asked, but he was having a hard time of it. They'd never really caught his attention. "That one? I think thats the north star Tris." maybe? Or was that actually Venus? It looked like a star at times.

"Oooh, the big dipper and the little dipper," Tristan echoed Urban with a bright smile. "And the north star, yay! Which one do you think is prettiest, Papa? I like all of them! Do you think we can count all the stars? I think there's more than ten, do you, Papa? Ten is a very big number, but there's more stars than ten!"

"I think they're all nice in their own way. I know one of them is a planet, I just don't know which. We may have to look into a telescope sometime so we can watch the stars at home." why not? "Well, we can try counting them." he came up to a stop as they reached outside their home. "Lets lay on the grass and start counting. I bet there's a lot more than ten."

Tristan laid himself down on the grass, staring up at the stars. "Papa, one star's dying," he said, pointing. A star was falling from the sky. "Poor star," Tristan gave a sniffle, standing and attaching himself to his father's leg. "What is the star's family going to do now?" he wondered aloud. "Will they cry? Papa, can we help it? Let's send the star back into the sky so it can be with its Momma and Papa."

Urban had never really seen a falling star before..and certainly not anywhere near him. So for one to be falling near them was interesting. His hand reached down to brush Tristan’s head and he nodded. “Come on, lets go look. I don’t know if we can do anything though Tris, okay? But we can always try.”

The star fell right at Tristan's feet. It was silver and sparkled brightly. "Look Papa! We don't have to go looking for it, because it found us!" The minun pointed to the star excitedy. "Look look! It came to us because it knows we'll help it! Won't we? We'll help it back into the sky?"

"We'll certainly try son, why don't you pick it up and see if you can't get it to go back up. If either of us can it would be you." the boy was so sweet and pure hearted. So believing. So hopefully if it would work, he'd make it work.

"Okay!" Tristan bent to pick up the star. He stood with it in his hands. "Go home, little star. To your Momma and Papa now. Papa, it's not going!" But the minun wouldn't be able to see if the star got home or not--he fell backwards onto the grass, asleep before he touched the ground.

Urban caught Tristan as he fell wondering what had happened he'd looked away for a moment having heard a noise, and turned back to Tristan asleep and falling. Had he fallen asleep standing up? The Minun would be picked up and carried inside where he'd be carefully tucked into bed for the night.

(Solo #2, WiP. Posted so I don't lose it.)

Tristan had discovered the magic that was--paint. He had begged his father for entertainment. He'd complained that there was nothing to do. That television was boring. He'd even tired of his favorite game, I Spy, after a half an hour of playing it. "Papa, I'm bored! What is there to do?" Urban had responded by saying he had just the thing for a day like this. He'd gone to the closet and brought out a box of something and one of his shirts. Tristan blinked as Urban opened the box, setting paper and paint out in front of him. The shirt was draped over him.

"Ooooh!" the minun exclaimed, listening as Urban explained what to do with the paints. That sounded fun! Painting sounded fun! He dipped his paw into one of the paint cups, and lifted it to his face. He stared, for a long moment, marveling at the color. "Look, Papa!" he exclaimed, showing Urban. It was kind of smooshy feeling, too, he thought, as he placed his paw on the paper. He lifted his paw and stared in wonder. It had made a perfect copy!

Tristan showed Urban, who had been standing behind him watching. "Papa, look! Look! It's me! I did that!" He held up the paw with paint on it as evidence, beaming.

Ice cold lemonade!

Tristan and Tania get lemonade from Brenny's lemonade stand.

When Tristan had awoken that morning, he had found himself a considerable amount larger than he had been the night before. "Is this what happened to Papa?" He wondered aloud. He marveled at his voice, and gave a giggle of delight. Wouldn't this surprise Papa! He was bigger! He had fingers! He would be able to hold a paint brush!

Delighted, the minun boy took out the paint set his father had given him. He pulled out a blank piece of paper and, wetting his paintbrush, began to paint. He had to make something wonderful! Something that expressed his emotion over finally having grown. He was thrilled! Now he could do things Papa did. He wouldn't need carried anymore.

"I think Papa will be pleased," he decided aloud. He didn't notice Tania, hovering behind him.

"I don't know," she said, "I think you look pretty ridiculous, myself." She blew a raspberry at him. "Oh, that's right. That's how you've always looked. My bad."

Tristan stuck his tongue out at her. "You're just jealous!"

"Jealous?" The mew echoed, perching on the minun boy's head, between his ears. "Why would I ever be jealous of you? One day, I'm going to be as big and strong as Daddy. But you--your ears are bigger than the rest of you!" Tania began to giggle, and Tristan abandoned his artwork to crane his neck and attempt to glare up at her.

"I'm bigger than you, that's why. I can do things with Daddy that you can't. I have thumbs!"

If Tania was impressed, she didn't show it. Instead, she curled her tail around his neck gently, and yawned. "You'll make a good pillow, at least," she mused. "Your hair is a nice color. I like it."

Dear journal,

Uncle Timmy is letting me have his old journal. He says it holds too many memories for him. I told him we could burn it, but he shook his head. He said some of them were good memories and he'll miss them but he doesn't want to carry them with him any more. He said it might help me feel better, writing down my feelings and confiding in something that won't argue with me.

Okay so. I'm not really sure how to do this. How to explain my feelings, I mean. I'm mad but I'm really sad, and the littlest things really tick me off. Like the way uncle Timmy purrs in his sleep. Or the way Fluff talks so much. Or the way everyone is trying to be so helpful but they aren't being helpful because they're only succeeding in making me mad!

Ugh! I just want Papa to come get me. I called him today, but Uncle Jayme answered. He told me no ones heard from Papa in days. Papa hasn't even gone to work! Whatever happened must have been really bad. I just wish he had kept me there with him. I could protect him. I'm worried about him. I miss him and Momma. I miss going to get froyo with her and Tania.

I miss Tania, too. I blamed her at first. I thought it was all her fault that Papa didn't want us anymore. When he locked us out, I yelled at her. I told her that it was her fault. That I never wanted to see her again. But I was wrong! She's my little sister, and even if she was part of the reason, Papa wouldn't throw us out because she made a mess.

He loves us. I know he does. I hope he knows we love him too. I would make things better. We're family, and family does that. I can fix whatever upset Papa, just like he fixed my bad dreams.

"Take me to see where Papa works!" Tristan cried. His voice was going hoarse: this argument had been going on for about an hour. Tristan kept insisting he needed to see where Urban worked, to talk to Jayme, Timmy expected. But the skitty knew that the club wasn't a place for children, let alone distraught children like Tristan. He shook his head. He wanted to find out what had happened to Cam: but Tristan had refused to give him the phone number he had used to contact Jayme. And so the argument had begun.

Tristan had attempted to bargain with him. He would give him the phone number if Timmy took him to where Urban worked.

"He won't be there," Timmy argued. "Jayme would have called if he had been. If you're looking to see your father, I suggest going to your apartment. Maybe you can convince him to come out and talk to you." He gave the boy a patient smile. He could understand Tristan's upset. His father had locked him out of the house he had grown up in, after all.

"I know, Tris. Why don't you call Jayme?" Timmy asked, hoping to cheer the minun boy up. "You could ask him if any thing's changed."

"No! I want to go there!" Tristan argued. Sparks flew from his cheeks--and in an unfortunately familar situation, Timmy found himself thrown backwards. Having experienced this before, the skitty teen was still for a moment before slowly sitting up. He winced. "Your Uncle Cam would be proud," he muttered. "You're almost as powerful."
